FINALLY Easy Method for CUSTOM Ringtone in HTC HD7 !!!!!!! - HD7 Windows Phone 7 Development

Making your own tones
But we know many of you have a particular ringtone in mind—or sound files already on your PC that you’d like to turn into one. In Mango, we give you the flexibility to do this yourself—with some important caveats. To qualify as a ringtone, a sound file must be:
1. 39 seconds or shorter
2. smaller than 1 megabyte (MB)
3. saved in MP3 or WMA format
4. not copy-protected (i.e. DRM free)
In short, custom ringtones can be installed using the Zune software on your PC. Once you’ve created an audio file that meets the ringtone requirements, find it in your Zune music collection, right-click the file, and change the Genre field to Ringtone. Then just sync the file to your phone like you would any music track.

Don’t worry: items marked Ringtone won’t show up in your phone’s music collection—so there’s no need to fear that during a workout you’ll suddenly hear your dog barking or other homemade ring. Instead, you’ll see them in Ringtones + Sounds in Settings, under a new Custom category we’ve created.

god very nice solution, thank youuuu. it s better short way to make your own ringtones.

This trick was posted in WP7 forum at begining of September. Can be used only on Zune 4.8 final.

how do i get new wallpapers and ringtones etc etc for my XDA other than the ones they already provide?
as to ring tones then what you are really asking is
where can i get .wav .mp3 and .mid files
because you can use them all
so use google
about wallpapir then all pictures that the xda can display will do
more to the point then i feel you may be looking for skins for the today screen
which are called .tsk
here are some
http://www.free-computer-wallpapers.com/pocket-pc.htm
here is how you find some more
http://www.google.dk/search?hl=da&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=pocketpc+theme&btnG=Google-søgning
do i open download it on my computer then sync it onto my XDA or download it straight to my XDA?
for tsk files, you need to use activesync and save the file directly to your unit's"my documents" folder. for pics, the xda2 allows you use the picture software to set any pic you want as the wallpaper.
for wavs used as ringtones, you can save them direct to your unit's "windows" folder. you then need to use the "add ringtone" app to be able to use the wav file as a ringtone. or simply use them for notification sounds, alarms, etc. again, tyhrough activesync.
or if you have an sd-card reader you can simply save the files to the card, insert it back to the ppc and then save them in the designated folders described above.

Where are WAV files stored? MP3?

I am looking to ad some new ringtones to my 8525 Hermes, but I am not even sure if it accepts MP3 files for ringtones, and most importantly, where are the ringtones files kept? Thanks

\windows\rings\
Theoretically you can put them on SD card and make a change to the registry but don't do it cos that can sverely delay ringing on icoming calls and even cause a crash.
Now as to MP3s the answer is yes but I suggest you use the google sticky search near the top of the messages listings to carry out searches on the hermes and MP3. That Google sticky post would also have answered your question about where to store ringtomes

Hey Mike
I know that a Scottish accent makes it difficult for many Americans to understand the Gaelic substratum, but I never knew that the spelling of English words was also that different in Scotland!
By the way, you never did tell me where the optimal folder for placing ringtones is located. One of the ringtone vendors said Windows\Ring was where they go, but when I opened the folder it was empty. I guess that the ringtones that came with the phone are in ROM or are in a different folder.

Cheeky monkey Those missing letters are a result of being in a rush to type the answer and it being late at night in Scotland and me using a mini keyboard and ..... and..... and......
Since we are getting petty here, I did state the folder, right at the start of the message and in bold "windows/rings".

[Workaround] Have Media Panel recognize synced Playlists

I don't know how the majority of you sync music to your X1s, but I've been using Windows Media Player (Desktop version) to sync all of my previous HTC phones, and figured that it would be the best way to sync my new X1 too. The issue is, as I'm sure most of you have found, that Windows Medial Player syncs playlists to the phone in .asx format, which happens to be unreadable for the media panel.
This is pretty unacceptable... (Please let me know if the newer media panel fixes this issue). So I've come up with two workarounds for you guys to choose from. The first is involves a program called "Playlist Editor". The second involves using the pay app, "CorePlayer".
Playlist Editor is a simple playlist manager for use on our devices, it allows you to save your non-compatible asx playlists in a multitude of compatible formats. Download it here
Just navigate to your playlist (even though there isn't any text that shows up, use the left softkey to go up a directory) and then goto the "Save As" menu from the program.

}
CorePlayer as most of you know is a robust media player, with the added feature of being able to re-save a playlist in an alternative format. Navigating it is a bit more complicated however, but it doesn't balk at any of my playlists like Playlist Editor has for a few. Here are the steps.
Step 1: Goto File>>Open>> Navigate to your playlist
Step 2: Goto Database view, and navigate to the virtual folder containing your playlist
Step 3: Click the Database softkey, and click Store As Playlist
BTW, please post if you have a more automatic solution.

As long as I know, the new MXP panel can handle desktop playlists
So with this program it's finally possible to creat playlists on the computer for the xperia media panel
@getrab
It can, but it's buggy. Some playlists are always shown as empty, I don't know why.

Mp3 as ringtone?

I just convinced my dad to get a Streak. However he really needs the ability to use a custom mp3 as a ringtone. He has made specific songs for each of his kids and he likes them to ring that way. I can't figure it out. Can anyone help?
Where or how can I link specific mp3 as ringtonefor a contact?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Long press on a song in the stock music player, and then select "Use as phone ringtone".
*Edit: The only way i know to setup ringtones specific to individuals is if you use handscent mms app. Go to your contacts, and select one, then press menu>options>ringtone and tap select music with the handscent icon, then tap music and select the song.
Download ringdroid from the market, you can create ringtones from your mp3 files and use it for specific person, just what you need.

When you view the contact details tap the menu key and then select options. You can then set a custom ringtone. (Android 2.2)
The folder structure (this is on the external SD Card) that ringdroid uses is:
Code:
media
/audio
/alarms
/notifications
/ringtones
You can create the same structure using a file explorer such as ES File Explorer and copy any existing ring or notification tones into the appropriate folder and the ringtone picker will see the file.

If your Dad just got the Streak and it has Android 1.6 you will probably want to check into upgrading to Android 2.2

Glitch for Changing Artist Name on HTC Sense Music Player?

I have two songs that I want to change the artist name to reflect a change in letter casing. At first, I had these two songs downloaded from the gtunes music downloader app, but after discovering that the files were 128kbps, I had deleted them, although I did change the file name a day or two before deleting it. I imported these songs later on, but with a higher bit rate. The album art, song title, and album title were tagged on each song, but the artist name did not change (All the changes just involved capitalizing the artist and song tile). The file name, however, is the same as it was when I deleted it. Since noticing this problem, I have used multiple tag editing apps from the Play Store, but the HTC Sense music player does not reflect the change, nor does other local music playback apps like doubleTwist.

I hope the image helps....just hoping to capitalize that first letter of the artist on the music player lol
Is one of the apps you've tried iTag? It almost always works for me.

I used iTag, DroID3Tagger, and AudioTagger (correct me on the name if I'm wrong). In all those apps, it appears capitalized. Even when I view the two files in Windows Explorer, it's how I want it to be. Still, it doesn't match up on the music player.
Try clearing the cache and data (unless you have playlists) of the music player. It's a long shot, but perhaps the changes you've made haven't come into effect yet?
I tried those options, but there's no luck. Still the same typing on both artists...my best hypothesis on this music player right now is that it
must have some kind of cache deep in the storage that won't let me change it
