"Unable to start Camera" "Unable to initialize camera" - P3600 General

After months of trouble free use my camera dies today. When I try to launch the camera I get the following message "Unable to start Camera" "Unable to initialize camera". I saw an earlier post where the fix was to power down and remove the battery for a few minutes. Unfortunately this did not work for me. I waited approximately 15 minutes before installing the battery and powering up again.
Has anyone elese seen this problem before? And where removing the battery has not helped. I have not tried a Hard Reset. I had a similar problem with my Hermes/838 Pro that was fixed with a hard reset. As you can tell I am trying to avoid the hard reset... I am traveling and do not want to take the time to cutomize my phone, at least not yet.
I am running the original shipped ROM 1.23.707.6
Meanining I have not flashed any ROMs to this phone. It is as shipped from Dopod.

hi i have the same problem since months ... something you have explored? do u have some informations to fix this problem?

Extract this package, and copy all files to the windows directory via Resco Explorer(alle files(.DLL) muts be visible, look at the options of this app) and overwrite the existing files, then softreset, Im not sure if this will work for you, so be sure and make a backup first!
http://www.poigps.com/users/emme/CameraGPS.rar

It really seems a software problem, probably some rom files or registries got corrupted. A reinstall may help, if not, you may still need the ultimate hard reset

I wound uptaking my 810 back to the Dopod service center. The guy said they had to replace my camera. What that means and if that can actually be done I am not sure. I would guess they replaced an entire board. They did re-flash the ROM on my phone as well. Prioir to taking the phone in for service I had not tried to re-flash the rom. I had only done a hard reset with no success.
One side light of my camera going down is... They put the same ROM back on my phone that was previously installed. After the service I have noticed that my GPS gets a "cold" fix much faster than before (twice as fast +/-)

Interesting, I had this exact same error, but on my previous phone, a Samsung D900.
They tried everything, including completely wiping the phone, but nothing helped so in the end they replaced the camera in the phone.

i had this on a tornado

...turned out to be hardware, too.

mainboard error on mine
htc service replaced the camera module twice before they replaced mainboard and cured my phone. I had this problem the first 6 months with my p3600.
Try taking a softreset with the camera on. this worked for me a couple of times

Camera problems won't initialise

Orange SPV M3100 Ser no 635*****
Vanilla ROM (as supplied by Orange)
My camera refuses to work
Error message is "Unable to start camera, Unable to initialise camera"
I have tried soft reset (several times), Hard reset (several times) both with and without SD card installed.
When this first occured I could resolve it by removing and reinserting the SD card but now even that does not work.
Currently on the phone to Orange requesting a replacement. Awaitiing reply from technical department.
PS. Also had intermittent SA problems
Anybody seen this problem, any solutions?
Thanks
Charles
I get a similar problem when trying to take pics on superfine 2M settings, camera app crashes and requires restart. Already had 3 replacement tytn's + not prepared to risk getting another dodgy m3100. Hardly use my tytn's camera now
http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon8.gif
Angry
Along with the ridiculous default sharpness and contract settings these issues are a real downer.
Well when I got my TyTN back from repair, I had a couple of dodgy camera issues... Sometimes it would take a blank picture. Then I would soft reset.. start up the camera app and it would complain that it was unable to cos it was in use already. Soft reset again... a quick slap or brisk shutting of the keyboard in frustration and it would work...
Interestingly enough (touch wood) I haven't had this problem in many weeks
Strange.............
i have the same problem did you sort it out

How do you fancy checking your registry entries against this set referenced below (which are currently working on mine!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288058&highlight=camera
Nice job for a Saturday?
And if anybody does and you then get it working - LET US KNOW!!
Mike
I now use CoolCamera instead of the default camera. It doesn't have the flash interace of the normal one but you don't have the silly default sharpness/ contrast settings and takes good pictures.

I have had this problem in the past. However, unlike you, this has been cured on mine with a soft reset. Does sound like a faulty unit though

Brand new Trinity freezes on soft reset (Green Windows Mobile screen)?

I received my new P3600 last night and played around with it a little. I installed quite a few apps on to the storage card.
Now, what happens is that when I soft reset the device, it keeps on freezing at the green page saying (Windows Mobile - Direct Push Technology). last night I have seen the little spinning thing, now I dont even see this anymore.
Does anyone have the same problem? I am about to return to the device to the seller but want to make sure that really is a device problem rather then anything else.
Any experience with this?
take the manual or use the search for hard reset

well, I keep resetting and eventually the device does start up (out of 10 resets, it works 3 times).
I am wondering though if i should return this one asap. I have had a few devices over the years but never seen a problem like this.
Is resetting a known problem for P3600's?
The error was not the device but one of the applications, I installed.
Glad you're sorted!
Which app was it- as a warning for other users to avoid?

Mine has just done it now. Apparently it is usually an application on the device that is causing problems. I would guess something along the lines of a today plug in or similar.
Trinity Rox
I've had my trinity now for about 2 months.
I just did a hard reset using the clear storage option on a WM6 rom I installed. I ran the "miniSD HC v3.1.zip" fix but my 512 card just vanished on boot up. Came back and saw the card, No problems. A word of warning before you start toying with your new Phone. put "PPCPimBackup" on your storage card and backup all your contacts etc. This app is a life saver.
Hello,
I have the same problem.
What to do?
just boght the p3600 and after using it 2 days i cant restart it.
its stuck whene the screen shows Windows mobile detect push technology.
what to do?
i have WM 5

Stuck at Windows Mobile loading Screen (Backup power ??)

As weird as it may sound, my prophet is not loading up successfully since this morning. It was working well until last night and for no reason seems to have lost it's way.
I see the Splash screen with the IPL / SPL etc. information and then it proceeds into the blue Windows Mobile Screen (Windows loading screen) and doesn't get any further.
Has anyone faced a similar problem earlier and have a resolution to it. I do not want to Hard Reset my device at the moment.
I had this problem last time but it worked after n soft resets. I'm sure today I have far exceeded that number n in doing a soft reset on my device. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Umesh.

Feasibility of a probable solution
Read this solution on another forum and thought of bringing it up for discussion here.
It said that these PDA phones have backup power source probably as a battery / capacitor to store ROM data in absence of the main battery. In case of situations like mine where the boot sequence is probably hitting a deadlock or some other problem , it might work to drain the back up battery / capacitor completely.
This might force the PDA to look for a fresh boot sequence or default.
Is this a possibility ? Do the senior members / experts here believe or know anything about this. I feel it's worth a discussion, if so.
Thanks,
Umesh.
The probable solution!!!
Hi
I had almost the same problem and I guess you maight have done the same mistake.Have you newly installed any weather forcasting programs which install some plugins into your TODAY SCREEN?If yes,it is the one which is responsible for your failure.(Many of plugin installers in today screen may cause the sme problem)
Hope you can succeed with resolving it.

Have you tried start up minus the SD card...?

I did install the HTC Home Plugin but I'm also sure that did not cause the problem cause I had it running great for about 3 weeks now. The last software I tried installing on my device was Merriam-Websters pocket pc dictionary. It had some flash card feature which ran at start up and to my surprise the morning (without restart) before my cell went into the struggling mode. But unless it reloads itself, I cannot do anything about any of the softwares.
How did you resolve the same problem with your device. Did you also have to do hard reset ?

I have tried with and without the SD Card - that had got my prophet working last time I had this problem but unfortunately, this time not. I even tried pulling it off at different intervals while the cell is stuck in the load mode, but to no luck.
You'd better to...

Hi
Actually,I installed a POCKET WEATHER, a weather forecasting program which installs some plugins on today sceern. Then my problems with the device(same as your)started to appear.I waited for 2 or three days, but finally I found the solution in removing it from my device.Once I deleted it,my device returned back to its great condition that it had before.I guess, you should ignore and put away those programs which leave a trace in today screen.Don't ask me why(Cause I don't know that much!!! )but I heard about some subsequent problems with your rom's cash, or something. You'd better removing them and I hope they will help you to solve the problem.
I did not have any luck and had to hard reset my device. I had not done it even once since I brought this handset about a year ago and am only glad to have done this now. Just realised how slow my device was working with all the software installs and uninstalls I had experimented with it over the year.
I did loose some data - but in the end a fair trade off.

ATT 8525 Camera Issue

I bought an ATT 8525 a month ago. Suddenly the camera stopped working.
I got the message "Unable to initialize camera. Failed to set up the device".
I looked for this in the web and could not find much help... seems that Cingular may exchange the unit as solution...
Some said it may be a problem with the SD card (2gb from sandisk).
I tried soft reset, hard reset, re-installing ROM (the one from cingular USA) and nothing seemed to work.
I almost gave up when I found this
I followed the steps and not only got the camera to work but I got a very fast , stable and spanish!! version of windows mobile 6. And with a lot of available memory !
Thanks so much to Schap !
hope this would be useful for those having the camera issue!
fabian
ROM Version: Schap's 3.30c
ROM Date: 05/15/07
Radio: 1.41.00.10
Protocol: 32.74.7020.18H
False alarm.
The camera worked for an hour or two... then I started getting the same error.
I did not install anything during that time or change any configuration...
I guess it must be a hardware problem...
any ideas?
Good news!!... (again)
I just downloadedthis cab that says it corrects SC bad management.
After installing the cab... turning off/on the phone... the camera works!!
(I don't know for how long it will work... but at least it is alive! )
Good luck and please share your experience with this cab !!
fabian
doesnt matter since our cameras suck anyways
Im just mad cause I parted with my K800i lol
F****'n camera!
I was trying almost everything.... It's still not working at all. Camera just stoped working..soft reset..nothing...hard reset...nothing...I did what Fabian is writing in his posts...nothing...one thing has changed, phone found camera and I have icon of camera in Programs menu, but it still don't work. It don't give me any error raports or something, when I tap on the camera icon it's just don't do nothing so....mayby I should go to church and pray for a miracle because I don't have any other options.
Someone knows any program to find problem? To diagnose or something...
I am sure that problem is in software. I didn't drop phone or damaged him...
I have Sandisk mSD, mayby that is the source of the problem?
Hi,
I know it sounds weird, but I got the camera to work for 2 or 3 days by removing the battery for 5 minutes.
I really don't know which is the trigger that makes the camera stop working, but it seems that removing the battery "cleans" or releases something somewhere.
It's really annoying but at least I found a systematic way to make the camera return to life everytime it dies...
Try this... maybe works for you too...
fabian
...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
Yo Fabian
That thing with taking off battery don't work on my 8525.
I was trying few combinations of that solution (without mSD cart, with cart in the phone). Life is hard. Nothing helps.
I just looking for software that can tell me what is wrong, but i can't find nothing. Something to check my hardware or something...
Mayby you have any idea how to get any info what to f*** is going on?
NeOrB
Hi
I really tried everything I could...
I've been looking for that tool you mention ... no luck..
Could not find a windows mobile event viewer neither...
I'm thinking on messing around with the c# sdk to debug the camera application ...
I can tell you now after a few days that removing the battery does not always work
My advise... if you're one of those lucky guys that can claim for the warranty... go for it and replace this f... phone!
fabian
Hi Fabian!
I don't have warranty for my phone, I bought it on eBay in USA, I had 7 days to turn it back if there were something wrong with that....camera stoped working after 9 days. Worst thing is that now I am in Poland and I even can't find any place where someone could repair that phone for me.
Thanks for wasting your time for me!
I'll not surrender and I will try to find solution!
Someone must know what to f**** is going on!
Few guys telling that problem could be with Sandisk mSD. And that could be true, because I remember that after I bought that card camera stoped working.
When I will have some more time I will hard reset PDA or something with taking off mSD from PDA before doing that. Mayby that is the solution. We will see...
Thanks one more time Fabian

Polaris rear camera not working

Because I tried allmost anything I would like to share this info!
Main problem: after using the phone for a while and doing many flashes of rom, radio, spl and so on.... I suddendly experianced trouble with my rear camera.
I had only a black screen and error messages like:
- could not initiaise camera
- could not get frame data from camera
The tricky part is that it sometimes does work, so at first you keep searching for a software solution. Well just trust me.. there isn't any if you have the same problem as I have.
I did allmost anything (i did not send it back to HTC and did not disassamble the phone)
I tried allmost every rom including radio, no final results!
Did the softwarefix (nadavi), batterytrick, sd-card removal, folder deletetrick and so on...
So this is my final trick, and it did work so far, but it only shows the root of the problem: HARDWARE!!
I restored the roms including the SPL to HTC WM6.1 SPL 3.13 (making it ready for warranty return)
I did a hard-reset to wipe anything, removed the sim and sd-card during flashing... so far no result with the camera!
THAN I was getting a bit pissed off because I'm having this problem for months now,.. so now I'm getting to the strange solution..
I did (gently) squeeze the phone with my hands like it was a dirty towel while having the camera.exe running and suddently.. -> PICTURETIME!!
So something inside the phone was not connected the way it should be and squeeze the phone can (did) fix it (pherhaps temporary we will find out...).
Just try if you don't have warranty or send it back to HTC!
But don't spend time changing rom's.
i have the same problem
a black screen and error messages like:
- could not initiaise camera
- could not get frame data from camera
