When you tried the other MDA, did you use the same AC charger? There are posts discussing AC charger failures. It might be that...

it is not the charger...i have the same problem
i have been unable to find the solution though.
I THINK I HAVE THE SAME PHONE!!!!
HIS USERNAME IS THE SAME AS THE EBAY USERNAME!
I WAS SCREWED!
Are you sure it is not a completely dead/defective battery(some of you)? Are you able to power on your phone and use it and it still does not charge? Or is your battery dead and it won't charge? You know the phone has to be on and in WM in order to charge? These phones are known for having their usb/charger port becoming loose and not charging.
Be specific...what have you tried?
Jeff
This might be a possible mobo problem. I have had a similar issues with few wizards. When I changed a new mobo the charging issue has gone and everything runs as they should be.
it is not the battery... I have 3 batteries and two wizards. I have narrowed it down to the mobo. and not the ROM. what sucks is I bought this MDA for the mobo blowing $70.

hello everyone!
after upgrading to bigstorage my jam discharges when plugged to the charger instead of charging!!!
it charges normally through sync cable.
any ideas???
thanks!
Upgrading to BigStorage has nothing to do with your battery problem as myself and so many other users have done so without having such experience. You have also proven that by saying that it charges properly with the sync cable. For sure there is a short circuit in your charger causing it to discharge the battery. Check for dirt inside the usb connector of your charger.
Well, I've BigStorage too, but I haven't got the same problem. Maybe you should check what zerimar said, and if the problem stands still, you should buy a new charge cable.
One question:
Before the BigStorage, the charger worked correctly?
thanks for answeeing!
yes, before upgrading everything worked normally.
when i plug the charger the orange light lihgts up as it should and the in the power screen it says 'çharging' , but it doesn't charge!
i've cleaned the cables, the battery and the sim card but still the same.
everything else works perfectly well.
Well, I guess the only thing that hopefully will help is to do a hard reset.
hey...i got the same problem. i even tried hardreset and the problem still there. there is nothing wrong with my charger since my charger works well with other magician.
i think the main problem is the magician unit itselves. i just dont have time to return it to the store since my life depends on it . well at least it still charges with sync cable.
ok now i'm mixed up.
i did a hard reset, downgrated to the previous original rom, but the problem is there.
it isn't the charger because when the backup battery reduses to 50% with charger it gets back to 100%
so my charger discharges my battery but charges the back up battery.
i did a lot of search, a few other people had similar problems but no solutions
found!
Try to fully discharge the battery in a natural way by leaving your unit on then charge again. Do not use your charger to discharge the battery. If my memory serves me right I think that's what some posters adviced.
I still believe that there is something wrong with your AC charger. If you have the possibility of borrowing a charger, or go to a shop who sells Magicians and ask if you could quickly make a test.
thanks a lot!
i'll try now and let you know!
discharging the battery did not work.
now i'll try the new ac adapter.
if it does not work then i'll just curry my laptop with me!!!
thanks for your help!
new ac adapter and everything works fine!\
thanks everyone!
Glad to be (and others) of help. Nice to know that everything is working fine and that you're happy.
Hi,
Wondered if anyone can help me out. I have an XDA Mini S, not been used for a while but now I've tried to use it again and I cannot get it to charge. Sometimes orange light comes on and it looks like its charging but then light starts flashing orange or goes out, device won't stay on more than a few seconds. Also sometimes get red light flashing or constant, anyone seen this??
Thanks.

battery is dead, get a new one...
It could be that the battery is too dead to get it to boot into windows. I've noticed on my G4 Qtek 9100 Wizard, that if i kill the battery all the way i cannot get it to charge what so ever.
It seems as if the charging circuit will not function unless the device is booted up. I can put the battery into a standalone charger to charge it up a bit, then put it into the Wizard and then it will charge the rest of the way after is has booted into windows.
I made a post previously about this, and got one reply which did not help, as a registry change has no function if the device cannot even turn on to begin with

Are you plugging it in with the wall charger? If so maybe the battery is dead?
Doug: The Wizard can not be charged (except by the wall charger or some other method) unless the battery still has juice. It requires extra power to jump start the battery. This is documented in the manual and in lots of places on this board...

Thanks, I did not know this was an offically known thing. It's unusual from any other standard cell phone or PDA i have owned in the past.
With them I did not need to worry about the battery running down to 0. If it did, I could just plug the phone or PDA in and they would charge, after they had charged for 10min or so there would be enough charge to turn the device on. I perfer to run my battery down to 30-25% before charging again, due to the limit on charge cycles that Lithim-Ion batteries have. Although sometimes i just forget to charge it
Those charge cycles are the reason alot of people kill the capacity of their laptop/phone battery in a few months. They constantly plug and unplug from their AC adapter. Each plugin initiates another charge, even if its just a small top off charge.
Finally got a new battery and still no joy, when i plug charger into phone i get orange light as if its charging but after about 20 seconds the orange light starts flashing (not a missed call/message as phone has been flashed and no sim card in). Do you think the charging circuit could be broken?
hi,
don't know if this is of any use but heres video of problem.
thanks

Interesting... hmm. Have you tried charging the battery(ies) in a different phone? (eg. a friend's, service provider's store?, etc?) Have you tried a different charger? USB-comp, wall, auto?
--M
Tried a few different chargers, usb cable and car, none of these work, unit worked with new battery but must have been charge present when battery first delivered. Incidently all chargers used do charge my xda orbit so i know they work.

Hi guys,
my beloved qtek 9100 is having some weird behavior since last week: i let my battery drain to 9% and then recharged. The phone would not recharge it, showing a red led. After lurking and learning about this problem on those devices I made a "starter" with three 1.5v batteries and gave the battery the necessary tension to start recharge cycle.
I thought that would be the solution but no: the phone kept stopping recharging at 25% or, the next time, at 75% with no apparent reason. Then, i tried many solutions like directly charging the battery with a cut usb cable, with the stock charger, with powered on phone, powered off phone, etc. No clue.
What leaves me shocked is that the battery, even when at 75%, drops suddenly to 0% after enabling the radio module thus killing the device...
An important note: same behavior with two different batteries...
I'm going nuts...
Problem still unsolved. Today i left the device recharge at 100% (took about 3 hours), detached it and tried a rom downgrade. Obviously it died at 50% of rom upgrade procedure. Sweet...now it's almost bricked, bootloader screen and recovery procedure to be done
What could it be, an hardware failure?
Hi there, same problem here: I have the phone with two batteries, on half a year old, one brand new. The batteries DO charge on another phone, but after a regular charge is gone, my phone never gecharges the batteries. It might be the charger circuit? If not HW, is there any chnce to do some SW stuff?
Unfortunately this thing s just a brock now ...
Bye

It's good to find someone with my very same problem...although i've got no solution, still!
Is there someone out there who knows how much would cost a fix and if it's an hw issue or not? Would it be possible to fix it via DIY?
Thanks in advance
Someone suggested me to test the current output on the main contacts to see if the device is actually supplying power to the battery.
So i plugged the wall-charger on the device, took a multimeter, checked the output: the device is supplying 3.5-3-7 volts. So, i suppose it is correctly charging. Why, then, after a turn-off / turn-on the charge level drops after showing as completed?
Could it be a sw problem, then?
USB voltage is 5v. If you are not getting 5v on the USB plug coming from that charger, then that is probably your problem. Have you tried using a USB cable to plug it into your PC to charge?

Thanks for the hint
I suppose the problem is another...in fact those 4 volts are coming from the battery itself. Pluggin in or out the power plug doesn't make any difference.
I tried taking out the battery and there's no power coming through the main contacts of the phone. Is this the right way to check or should i use some different method?
Thanks again
Last question: is there someone who could show me where the recharge circuit should be on the mainboard? Have you got any information about the ease of a diy repair and about the price / availability of the spare part?
Thanks in advance

Are you using the wall charger or with the PC. Cus you will get more power input from the Wall. As so i dont know the reg key off hand but if you change one thing you can make it so your phone does not charge off the PC. Maybe you have found a new one!

With both the wall charger and the pc usb plug. Checked the registry key and no way, it's ok.
It's really incredible, the total charge cycle takes a couple of hours, like if it were charging regularly, but after unplugging it goes down. It is like if the "carge counter" or similar records the charging, with the battery actually not receiving power.
did you solve your problem yet?

Hell...no!
i have an MDA Vario which doesn't work anymore.
it won't turn on or do anything .
it was working fine before i let the battery run out completely, as i forgot to charge it.
i don't have a proper charger, instead i was using a USB cable for a digital camera which had the same plug that fit in the Vario. it used to charge it when the phone was switched on.
does anyone know how to fix this?
do i have to buy a new charger or a new battery?
thanks.

Search here for the 9volt battery trick. There used to be an issue with older ROMs on like the Cingular 8125 where it wouldn't charge once the battery dropped to a certain point. There was a trick to "jump start" the battery with a 9v battery. Then it would charge again via USB or wall charger.
Once you do get it charged, you probably need to make sure you are on your carrier's latest ROM.
Note that while Razr chargers also use the mini-USB plug, I've heard some of the off brand Razr chargers will not give a good charge to a Wizard.
I used to have a hp pda and left it in the draw for a few months and couldnt charge mine, i had to buy a new battery.
Dont get a Razr charger it wont work.

Another possibility since the battery is completely dead is to plug in a charger (really should be a wall charger and not USB from a computer) and just let it sit for about 5 mins. Then press the on button (with it still connected to the charger) to see if it will turn on. If so it should then charge on up. If it doesn't I'd suspect the battery may be damaged.
thanks for the replies, i'll try the things you said

Same problem
hey my treo charger broke and even if i bought a charger with the same V and mAmp specs it won't charge... anyone has the answer?
If you're sure the adapter is 1A then try soft-resetting the treo pro. Mine sometimes doesn't want to charge from generic chargers unless I reset.

I have the same issue. A few weeks ago it use to charge if I did a soft reset. My it will only charge from the car charger and not the dc usb charger. I have tried a few things that ppl have suggested but no luck. When it is plugged into the DC usb charger the red indicator light comes on but it will not charge even if I leave it charging like that fro 5 hours.
Appreciate any help or suggestions. Has anyone had this issue as well?
this has happened to me... i unplug then replug. works with normal palm charger. others seem to be weaker than the stock charger

i know that if you cover up the 2 middle pins betwwen the battery and the phone that disconnects the phone part.. and the battery can charge.. but even this is a huge pain. i love my phone but grrrrr.
Treo Pro car charger
Like so many other people, I have a lot of problems sourcing a compatible car charger. (Had a Palm one and it was crap before it stopped working). The suggested idea of shorting out the two middle wires on the USB cable actually works OK but it's a fiddly job.
An easy answer is to buy this charger. I guarantee it works as both a mate and I bought one and have no problems. It's actually advertised as being for the HTC Wildfire. At £3.99 inc. postage, it's a bargain
Unfortunately this site will not let me post a link
Go to Amazon and search for a charger for the HTC Wildfire. It is the one supplied by Cellapod
