camera module - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

anyone have experience taking apart the phone and replacing the camera module? or know what instruments are needed for this? thanks a lot!

Which Camera module did you need to replace ?
The main module (The one next to the battery) or the low res version for Video Calls ??
Both are fairly straight forward to replace (The Main one is actually easier than the Video Call One).....
The biggest problem you will have is obtaining one of these modules...
Having said that though, I did see a link here not so long ago for a place in china that was selling parts for these things relatively cheap (Screens, cases, etc).....
As for getting to the main module...
1) Remove Battery cover, battery, and all the screws around the battery area..
2) Remove the bottom cover (From memory there are 4 clips... Take your time and prise them off with a screwdriver...)
3) You should have access to the Camera module (From memory... Its been a long time since I took mine apart)....
There is a workshop manual on here somewhere... Definitely download the thing as it explains everything in regards to taking apart and putting the thing back together again....

yeah the main back camera
ill look around for the manual.. thanks!

It's on the ftp. Something with confidential in the name.
BTW I took mine apart (to replace the LCD and later again to replace the flex cable) and now the camera doesn't work anymore.

Hi man i have the same problem with you once my phone fell of and i think the camera is damaged so pleas if you find any links of the selling parts post it hear.I also damaged the flash light too.

Wow, my camera just started working again. I had the "Failed to initialize camera 3600:100:x" error.
I actually tried fixing that by swapping the camera from another MDA Pro, but that didn't help.

My main camera is not working and the flash too its not giving me any errors when i start the camera it takes some time to start and the only thing i have is a black screen my flash is not working too.Is there a place to bye one of these?Or if i send it to qteq will they fix it?And how much they will charge me for this?and i was thinking to sell it oh man.

my IMATE JasJam camera problem.. pls help

all was ok till yesterday.. sudendly... the camera mode is showing green bars.. vertical or horizontal.. what can be the problem.. i tried softreset..
Sounds like faulty hardware but backup your data and try a hard reset first of all.
I had the same problem. Turning the phone off (although not intentionally -- I was switching SIMs so that I had to remove the battery) and back on solved the problem.
i had the same problem
I still have the same problem... I took the phone to be fixed under warranty for 4 times... they changed the camera modules twice.. and the last time they changed the whole board.. still..same problem!
now it turns out that if I give the camera a couple of hits on the table when it is showing green bars, it goes back to normal... but that's no solution...
any ideas ?!?!
I Have the same problem with my JasJam, did get hold of a Dopod main board and fixed the problem. The Camera inside the JasJam, ( had it replaced 3 times too, ) doesn't have any padding on the connector like the Dopod does. However i suspect the Camera ROM may be corrup if anyone has a copy of a new ROM for the camera i would be more than happy to change the JASJAM board back in and give it a go as i cannot access Teltras Buisness Portal and Foxtell with the Dopod IMEI. The required software wont install without the linked Imate IMEI
Sounds like the camera needs to be plugged back in to the mainboard. It may not be pushed in properly causing your problems.
Use the HTC Service Manual to take apart what you need, You will need to remove the battery and back cover, and then fix it. You can test by fixing the battery in place and testing before you replace the back cover (I use a hair band to hold the battery in place).
Cheers...

Yeah, definatly the cause in the Imate, the Dopod camera has a small amount of padding so it can't Knock out, but with frequent fiddling i think i allso corrupted my ROM...I'm a silly bugger the camera seems to operat off a CMOS oh well... will have to find a workaround for the Dopod board then
Corrupted ROM shouldn't matter if you have Hard SPL installed. Use sd card method to reflash a rom you like.

Problem with my Front Sensor

Hi every one,
My Hermes' Front Sensor has got some problems
I use Web Camera to open Front Sensor and i can only see a mass of purple very very unclear image through it.
And the last time i use web camera to check Front Sensor i didn't find such a problem, everything goes well.
If there any bugs in the Front Sensor ?
Thanks !
no one knows....?

The same thing has happened to me. I have tried it on different roms, including one I know it worked on before, so it must be a hardware issue. Could this be caused by a loose connector or something with a simple fix like that?
I dont want to take my phone apart if theres no chance of fixing it anyway.
Maybe people are confused by the term "Sensor"?
I will assume you meant the Front Camera.
If so, then yes the connector can come loose. It is a simple push on connector, but you do have to dismantle quitefar to get to it.
Have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2337130&postcount=4
Assuming you have been through soft and hard resets, you MIGHT want to attempt dismantling the phone.
Mike
Well, I got ss1271 by email and I'm confused (nothing unusual there you may think!!) What he says is this:
Sorry for that I cannot have an access to this xda-developers forum right now, but I'll check it asap.
Well, I mentioned "sensor" which refers to the sensor module that located right of the earphone( a transparent some cube-like stuff), not the front camera.
Whatever, I'm very glad that u could gimme a possible answer, thanks in advance!!

(Hope you don't mind me posting the email ss1271 - nothing looked private or confidential)
Can anybody think what is being referred to? I know there is a keyboard light sensor, but that seems irrelevant so what is being referred to?
Any ideas?
Mike
Thanks Mike, you were right the first time, it is the front camera. The confusion has come about because Ateksoft refer to it as the front sensor in their webcamera software, and as that and coolcamera are the only software other than video-calling which can use the front camera, that is where both ss1271 and myself discovered the problem.
I have opened my phone up once a while back, but am not in a hurry to do it again until I have a serious need to use the front camera.
I actually used your guides when I opened up my phone before, and will again if I try to solve this before I upgrade, (too poor to at the moment), so thanks for providing them.
Heres a pic of me taken with my front cam.

To get back on topic, do you think that it is a loose connector, is this something you have come across before?

Well hoagy looks fine!
The push in connector is the most obvious first thing to check in my view. The trouble is loose connectors can show a host of different scrambled pictures and weird colours and missing lines. Can't recall one that vivid shade before but I've seen bright green
I guess the standard thing is just ensure it's not software by doing a hard reset (but I guess you have done that already)
Mike
Hi Mike,jez
First i apologize for my mistaken the Hermes with the Touch Diamond.
When I first got Mike's mail, I took it grant to think that Mike was talking about the Diamond issue...
I'm sorry for you two guys to get confused.
Now I'll clearify that in this thread I was discussing about the FRONT CAMERA of Hermes.
and unfortunately I eventually cannot fix the front camera problem.

Can the camera on T-Mobile Wing be removed?

Can the hardware camera module on the T-Mobile Wing be removed without breaking the phone or the camera?
My situation is that I need to work in a place where camera devices (including those on mobile phones) are not allowed. I like to bring my T-Mobile Wing with me to work so one option given to me is that I need to damage the camera on the phone making it not workable. Though I don't really use the camera, in general I don't like to break perfectly working things, so I would like to find out if the camera can be removed.
Thanks.
Maybe
I would have to say "no dice" on that one scratching the surface. You can remove the camera module but you would also take out the speakers and I think the antenna as well but don't quote me on that.
Yes sir you can... just look up the repair guide to the Herald and it'll show you, with pictures, step by step how to completely disassemble the phone .
It's a PDF file and pretty much all you have to do is take off the 4 screws (voids warranty) and take it off carefully then just remove the antennae and then the camera and put back on the antennea... but I haven't opened my phone in a while so it could go either way .
hehe no way u can open up that little piece with the speakers and camera lens??? crazieness

g1 camera messed up? IS it doomed?

Ok, jsut got this thing off of ebay, power it all up I notice someone has been inside. eh no real biggie.. I unlock it and test the major functions.. all works. Bring up the camera and holy crap its like looking through the eyes of a lawn gnome tripping off shrooms and acid.. take a look (attached)
I rewiped.. installed Fx Camera to see if it was a setting, and also wiped the memory card (which came with the phone.. cool!) I then turn around and see that the camera lens is cracked on the battery cover, however the lens inside looks pretty good. So, I'm thinking this is a hardware problem, but Im not afraid to try to fix it if its just a few dollars. Am I screwed?
whoah, thats a trip!
If you deem it to be hardware, I have a spare camera from a parted G1. PM if you want details
I may take you up on that, however I am searching google right now to see if you can even replace the CCD
The camera module is on a ribbon cable that attaches to the motherboard, easily removed. So long as the component damaged is not on the mainboard itself you should be fine.
That's what I like to see!
You have a PM
If you plan on taking it apart yourself you need to be extremely careful, i took mine apart to replace the case when i bought it and after putting it back together everything seemed fine but after a while the touchscreen kept dying the camera never worked and my signal dropped all the time, i tried taking it apart and putting it back together several times to no avail. The phone became unuseable and i shelved it for my D600... bad times. It was only until i was going to send my G1 to a phone recycle website that i opened it up one last time, after doing nothing different and putting it back together its for some reason worked ever since. Just a word of warning hope whatever you do works out ok - Adam
Thanks for the warning! Someone already has been in the camera before.. I am going to assume that it was to take a peak at the camera lens so I am not afraid of voiding the warranty. It's no new adventure for me, I have been inside multiple phones and other small electronics, but thank you again. It never hurts to be redundant when opening any electronic device.
PM returned
When disassembling, I like to modify the HTC manual a bit. I remove the back plastic, and the coaxial cables (be VERY CAREFUL when reassembling, they always get pinched!). Then, remove the connectors as instructed EXCEPT the camera. Now, lift the camera portion, as well as the IMEI sticker as a whole module. They are just taped down. When lifted up fully, now you can spin the mainboard out of it's hooks and remove the entire assembly. This was the difficult connection to the camera stays intact. Makes reassembling much easier too, as it will self align.
If you haven't read/downloaded the G1 service manual, you need to!

Whoa! My first phone that has a manual!

My phone just started doing the same thing. I flashed the ADP image to see if it was a bug with the ROM I was using, only to find that it was still all crazy looking. Contemplating if I should try the repair or warranty exchange my phone again, ugghh
mine's doing the same suddenly, according to this: http://www.fixya.com/support/t2307654-htc_g1_camera_takes_pictures_messed_up
it's called solarization but how does one turn it off without a hard reset?
I downloaded the Snap Photo app which allows turning solarization on or off but it makes no difference
Any know how to fix this?
starting to look less and less like hardware
Anyone know how to switch this back to normal?
Hate to say it, but I do not see anything that would point this to software. First, if it was a setting or something software related, it would be resolved by the factory reset.. Heck, flashing the rom like JackSlim did would have reset any bad stacks or drivers.
I did find that post by fixya initially and quickly dismissed when I noticed that 1. Fixya blows... 2. there was no resolution 3. this is the same behavior that digital cameras get when the ccd or cmos goes bad..
PLEASE correct me if Im wrong, I would rather be

After reading the post of Fixya I went into Camera Magic and played with some of the setting and couldn't change it back to normal
Unrooted my G1 today, back to stock Donut DRC83, still the same issues, so I'm pretty sure it's not software related. Since I've had the same issue on the latest Cyanogen build, the Android Dev Phone build & the stock Donut build.
Called T-Mobile to get a warranty replacement, so I'm $9.99 and a couple days away from having another phone.
That's my fix anyways
I hope anyone not covered under a warranty is able to find a solution, my guess is you would have to replace the camera itself as Speed mentioned in one of the earlier posts, so look for a parted out phone or a aftermarket parts store and good luck with opening up the phone
As soon as money goes into my paypal account and I replace it I will post my results. Heck, if anyone is interested I will do a step by step for future reference. With pictures taken from a working camera, of course.
The only reason I am thinking software is that it seems like it is occurring to a few people all of a sudden where a week ago none of us had heard of this. I had a accelerometer problem with a G1 and I took it back to the RC29 rom and everything trying to fix it, it never would work. Sent it to HTC and they reflashed it...worked fine. They said there were no hardware issues. That makes me think there must be a bit of software that isnt getting replaced (like bios on a pc?). Perhaps what is going on is hardware..just hard to say right now.
The camera itself may have some firmware that is corrupted. Also possible that there's a fried transistor somewhere along the line. Could even be something really simple, like a bad ribbon cable or connection.
Cheers for Manual link
will greatly help when I swap over from black case to white case
( sticky keys and a mate wanted white one sooo $30 AUD for an complete white kit and hoping for sucsessfull fixed KB glitch )
note that you will still have black buttons for volume and camera, as well as memory card cover. That is what kept me from changing colors on mine- I went with a black replacement case so I didnt have the wrong colored buttons

"Camera Busy" error after update

Hello, I just bought a Moto X Play XT1563 used that has the camera problem.
When you open the camera app it returns the error "Camera busy. Can not start the camera. If this happens again, restart your phone."
The former owner of the handset, informed me that this happened after he upgraded the system.
I already took a technical assistance, the rear camera was changed but nothing solved.
I've tried all the tutorials and tips I found on the internet.
I'm still hoping to be a problem with the system.
Can anyone give me a light, or idea of what that might be?
I'm attaching the dmesg.log (kernel log, I'm currently with CoffeeKernel v2) which is returning some errors on the part of the camera.
I thank you.
Sorry, message has been translated.
same problem here.. anyone knows how to solve this?
Did u ever edited build.prop for any reason??if yes, just remove the lines u have added or restore the original build.prop file.

After that I replacing the front camera but after change only works the front, I've not a idea what happen with the phone but can't work with the both cameras.
I've stock firmware not rooted.

After some test I think the problem is something with the front camera, when I mount the front camera sometimes work but not ever, in fact when I remove the front camera the main camera allways work. I verified the grounds but I not found nothing.
Another option it's a problem with the firmware.

When you removed the front, did the flash (led) work again?
Mine currently does not work at all, not even the flashlight.
Maybe a solution
Guys, I've found that the problem in my phone was the flat of flash. It was a little to far from contacts . So I removed the clue in it's back and added a little piece of plastic. And assembled the phone again. It worked just like a charm.
I hope it helps you. (Sorry by the bad English)

I've done a little mod and resolved my problem. The led's connectors were not touching correctly the connectors of the board.
I corrected it by sticking a little piece of plastic below the connectors of "middle frame", so it became a little popped out and solved the problem.
I hope have helped you guys.
