CellProfiler + WM6 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi guys, i'm trying this program (VERY VERY useful!!)
On my Tytn LVSW WM6 works without the option "Communicate over GSM-Modem"
It shows a "COM2 opening error" when try to learn the cell with the function enabled.
I'm asking you if there are convenients reasons to try to communicate with the gsm modem (ie: save battery, or better/comprensible cell codes).
The program say that if i change "detection method", i have to rebuild the cell id database (so i hope there are different codes.)
Ps: which com is assigned to GSM modem on a tytn with WM6 ?

I HIGHLY recommend trying out phonealarm (the paid version) as this does the job WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better. Cell profiler has jack all support when compared to phonealarm.
Ive used it since i bought my TyTN (I used to have Magic Profiles Pro on my SE P900....a lifesaver) and it is just AWESOME.

i know that palarm goes well, but there are A LOT of options & settings that i don't need, also it needs + resources...

try Comm Mgr Pro

CellTracker Alternative

I don't know where else to post this....I found this while looking for an alternative to the SPV Developers CellTracker app. It's an app called NiceTrack...the screenshots tell the rest of the story:
http://www.nicecuppa.com/nicetrack.asp
Background info: http://www.ascendingangels.com/nicecuppa.com/nicetrack.asp?story=1
Screenshots: http://www.ascendingangels.com/nicecuppa.com/nicetrack.asp?story=2
Download: http://www.ascendingangels.com/nicecuppa.com/nicetrack.asp?story=3 (Version 1.2)
The source code for that app can also be downloaded from the Background Info link.
The SPV Developers CellTracker app (Beta version only, hasn't been updated since December) for PocketPCs is located at the way bottom of the page:
http://www.thelogster.34sp.com/celltracker/
NiceTrack updates the tower changes in real-time whereas CellTracker does not. NiceTrack also shows the dbm signal strength on a cool chart and it also includes a logging function that allows you to rename the cells your phone has connected to while the app is active.
Signal strength chart: http://www.ascendingangels.com/nicecuppa.com/images/nicetrack/main-page.gif
Here are a couple hints based on my experience so far:
1) In order to fully save the renamed/logged cell sites, you must first tap Save next to where you renamed the cell site. Then you must also tap Options/Menu --> Save (extreme lower left) to save all changes since the app was launched.
2) Use Menu --> Exit to completely close the app.
I have tested this for use on my MDA II w/Windows Mobile 2003. I don't know if the app is compatible with WM5 PPCs or regular Windows Mobile smartphones.
Enjoy
Thanks for posting.
This software has been discussed before, and it is great:

However, I believe people are having difficulty converting it to WM5 (when I last checked). But great stuff either way.

Hi there,
Sharpstuff (NiceTrack author) here..
I've just bought a T-Mobile MDA Vario and have managed to get it working on that ( WM2005 )
The problem was that in the older phones the GSM modem was on COM2 and on my Vario it's now COM9. I've made the Com port configurable now, but it's still not 100%.
You can download it from my site www.nicecuppa.net
Let me know how y'all get on.
Cheers

Sharpstuff, you have an excellent app here. I had to search for a bit to find it but in the end, I'm quite glad to have it . I also like the pun you have for your site...it's quite distinctive since even as a German-American, I know when someone says "cuppa", they normally mean the cup of tea .
Keep up the good work and thanks for taking the time to develop such a great and invaluable app .
oooh.. *bookmark*
Do you have a regular Donate button somewhere? I see the shop, but I'd rather just get X amount straight to you, and not have to be awoken by some crazy delivery guy at 8am for a mug
Thanks for the kind thought...
But, I enjoy doing this stuff, so just click my google ads and I'm happy!
;-)
Got this to work on my 8125, almost... Clicking on 'add' under events causes it to crash with the following error:
NiceTrack.exe
NullReferenceException
Application::Run+0xf
MainForm::Main+0xa
....bummer - so close!
You need to select an event type eg. "Flash backlight" then click "add"..
Needs some validation there.. Plus, the events side of things isn't very useful at the moment, I need to implement some more event types.
Cheers
I installed it on my qtek9100 but it doesn't find a GSM-modem at all.
Also a Qtek9100, EN - found it on COM9 just fine
What would be really neat would be an event "Show Picture". That way it would be easy to make a make-shift map tracking thing. Simply grab a picture of the map off the internet, plunge a big dot on the map where you got the cell, save as image, and have that image displayed when entering that cell %) GIF files on the storage card, shouldn't take up too much space
Alternatively a full-fledged mapping thing could be developed, but that's a lot more work *nod*
@sharpstuff hey I installed it on my XDA EXEC, but when it scans for com and reaches com9 it just freezes...any ideas?
Hi there,
I'm having some problems with the detection code, and general functionality on WM5.
I am looking into it and will post a new version up ASAP, sorry for the problems..

So is Release 1.3b a partial fix for WM5 users? I installed it on my MDA II and it detects my modem on COM2 without any problems. Both 1.2 and 1.3 seem to work on WM2003 PPCs.
http://www.nicecuppa.net/

TIA
Yep, it's an intermediate release. Basically, it reminds the user on startup to set the Com port in settings
I'm working on v1.4 at present, this has more error checking on the GSM code, and multi-threaded com port detection so the whole app doesn't hang
For what it's worth - it seems to randomly lock up on me - requires an 'end task'. Sometimes when this happens, and I try to fire it back up again, I just get an empty message box dialog; no title, just the close button.

Scheduled switch on / off of Bluetooth

Hi,
This may be a generic piece of software but I'll post it here becuase the TyTn is the device I want to use it on...
Is there a piece of software available that will switch on and off bluetooth at a specified time?
If not, would somebody with some programming knowledge be able to write this?
The idea behind it is that - say you travel to and from work at a specific time - say 8am -> 8:30am and 5:30 -> 6pm - you would'nt have to keep switching bluetooth on and off in order to connect your mobile to a headset...
Cheers
Lee
Auto switching..
Have you tried PocketZenPhone?
it may be what you are looking for..
Charlie Grillo
Phonealarm has an option to schedule profile changes at specific times and within each profile, one of the settings available is to switch bluetooth on/off. You can also specify to run a program of your choice upon profile change as well.
TyTn is PocketPC bassed not SmartPhone bassed so it dosn't have profiles as such...so don't think that'll do it...
Phonealarm is a program which gives your profile functionality on a PPC device.
My phone is a Vario II (aka HTC Tytn).

I'd better have a look at it then!!!
Yeh, it is worth a look, it is a great program
I really missed having profiles when I switched from standard phones to PPC devices which is why I bought it.
If you click on the link on my first post it will take you to the developers home page.
I'm using SKScheMa from the SKTools folk.
http://www.s-k-tools.com/
It works fine to schedule all sorts of stuff on/off, including soft reseting in the middle of the night, running clean up utilities at 6am etc..
It's also got some neat (if quite complicated) scripting capability but there are one or two pre-canned scripts that you can assign to buttons like 'Toggle BT' ...
Works for me...
Cheers

is it possible to use this to get ActiveSync via bluetooth to start automatically when I come in range of the bluetooth on the PC? I do all my synching with BT, but it is a pain in the butt to have to manually start the process every time
yeah - I know what you mean... so as far as I know, it's possible to create a script to switch BT on, then start an App (such as Activesync)... you can even script it to emulate stylus 'clicks' etc.. now the only trick may be having to start the script (for activesync) depending on a connection being available ... but there is some capability called WATCH which is supposed to watch for certain events etc...
So, have I done it myself ? no...
Is it possible ? it certainly looks like it..
Cheers

Hi lsainsbury,
I would also give PocketZenPhone (mentioned above) a try. From experience I have personally found it better than Phonealarm for switching profiles etc...
From what I remember PhoneAlarm has other features which I was not interested in. PZP has many features for customizing notifications etc...
I am sure others will disagree but this is my opinion.
Guess you have nothing to loose by trying it, right?
Tried both, pocketzenphone is the best IMO....its only missing ONE thing which is automatic profile changing via cell id.
(as you can see by my new topic) Phonealarm seems to have problems with the TyTN from my experience anyway!

WM6 Typhoon bugs and issues

It would be may be good to create a list of known bugs and other problems with the WM6 ROM for Typhoon. Please post here if you know about some bugs or strange behaviour.
I have been using this rom since yesterday and after few restarts, the phone remains stuck for about 3 minutes in the "mobile operator" screen during start up. Eventualy it asks for pin code, but after typing in, the time, operator and appointments information is missing in the home screen. I have flashed WM6 once again, but this phenomenon occurred again after application unlock and installation of basic software (xbar 2.5, pocket controller, Binaries smart explorer, auto keylock, smart time sync) + few restarts. Now I am searching for the reason if this is caused by some registry entry or by an incompatible software installed...At present I removed all the software but problem still present. Ready to make registry clean or hard reset...
lot of software incompability, mostly games,
-bug tcmp looks like the same most games have; there is sound but the screen will freeze in a few seconds (sound continues )
..tried to add T9 language according to instructions described at Ronswens pages for WM5. During writing sms I can choose the new language, but after choosing it only beep occurs when pressing a key. I suppose there should be changed also some another key in registry...do we have some experiences already with the T9 languages on this WM6 rom?

I have found the decision:
1)
We open "exe" a file with game in any HEX-editor, we find gx.dll and it is replaced on g0.dll
We clean the signature from a file by means of SignRemv and it is done new by means of Signed tool
To place the changed file back, and a file g0.dll to place in folder Windows
or 2) To replace a file gx.dll in folder Windows, in any a file-manager to put "read only" and restart (there can be problems with other programs)
As example Bustem
PS: forgive for my bad English

how do you make application unlock on wm6 ?

is there Java support with this WM6 ROM? I can't seem to find it. Very useful for Opera Mini and Gmail standalone app.

Use regeditSTG2.exe to modify the following phone registry keys:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001001 = 1 (that will enable the rapi_config, 1 means full access to rapi config, 2 means user controlled access)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001005 = 40 (that disallows the check for security cirtificate etc)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies0001017 = 144
Run SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe from the PC with the phone connected via ActiveSync. This will unlock the phone.
Disconnect and switch the phone off then back on again.
Hi,
I can't use voice talk (via handset bluetooth) before in wm2k3 and wm5 i have the fonction to add voice command with contact, but now no.
It is normal ?
Thx.
...I also revealed interresting behaviour when you are trying to connect to internet via GPRS. There sometimes occurrs error message that it couldnt be established GPRS connection because of missing GPRS coverage. (the "G" is also missing in homescren icon bar). But I am sure there is no GPRS coverage problem in my location.
So in this case you have to go into the phone settings and choose your network again. Afterwards when you are re-registerd in your network, the symbol G is present in iconbar and you can run the GPRS connection. Sometimes prolongomenous procedure...
I had pretty much the same thing as a few of the others.
Xphone11
WM5 - WM6
It flashed all ok, the phone booted all good and worked fine - but then after around 15 min of running, reciving one call and 3 failed attempts at sycning it died.
Well - actually, I re-booted it for something and it never came right after that.
These are the issues which appeared;
Contacts wouldn't open (yet the proccess was fired),
Calendar threw a 'missing file' error,
Start menu wouldn't work (no response from the button),
GPRS service was dropped ("no service available" - even though there was and the phone could see it if you seeked for it),
Yet the phone recived text messages while in this state and while calling the phone it just wouldn't do anything - yet to the caller it would appear to just ring and ring (not a provided service).
An interesting thing - I found that by making a change to the home screen or theme would allow the start menu too function as it should and the the clock to be displayed on the home screen.
Could be an area worth investigating....
I've had a taste now.... I want WM6!!!
What can I do to help?
...it also would be interresting to know whether there is a possibility to run the USB modem - I couldnt find it in start menu/accesories nor in the windows folder...
How to install for QTEK 8020 (T-Mobile SDA) joystick? please help... fuctional joystick in WM06 (my english low sorry)... right is up, left is down and left not functional and right... ???

Because WM6 for Typhoon Error on Dumprom.
WM6 looks fantastic, however...
I also have a few disappointments the most important of which are:
- No "Headset" option in the profiles menu!!!
- No STK menu!!!
- Very easily crashing on games and some progs (hope to fix it as stated above)
and the camera is definately worse than in 2003SE
..various language t9 cab files - I tried it and it works fine on WM6

do anyone try the standard calculator in wm6 ? It show error in my c500 so I have to use other calculator program
..it looks that my calculator works properly...

Cannot Change Trinity SIP (Input Panel)

I am hoping that someone here will be able to solve my problem:
I have an Orange SPVM700 (Trinity) WM5 with the original Orange Rom. The first thing I did when I got this device was install the HTC Phone Pad SIP. After a number of painful trial and error attempts I was able to use this SIP by using G4 SIP by setting Phone Pad as the default SIP in the G4 SIP control panel, and also within the G4 sip start-up application..
However, try as I might, I can not use any other SIP application, such as PCM Keyboard (v0.2), Teksoft Finger Keyboard, TenGo, RescoKeyboard, etc.).
Anytime I try to activate one of these alternative SIPs, my Trinity displays whatever the default SIP is set to (as set in G4 SIP control panel app). I can either set the default to "Keyboard" or "PhonePad". If I set any other SIP as default (in the system control Panel), I get a White Screen of death and a Hard Reset.
Does anyone have any experience of using an alternative SIP (other than WM Standard SIPs or PhonePad) with an Orange M700 Trinity?
Glad i am not the only one having this issue, i have tried and failed to get any alternative SIP working,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=322108. Post #5
Any advice would be welcome, i have tried soft resets after changing the SIP in the messaging client, soft resets after changing via the Start - settings - Input route and all to no avail.
O.K. Finally managed to work out a solution to this problem......upgrade to WM6.
I installed AX3L's Rom - AX3L_WM6_WWE_v2.0.8.2 and every thing is now great. I can use any SIP I like, the Trinity runs much faster, and the new radio performs better. I recommend you follow this route.
Also, if you need to roll back to WM5, there is a version of the Orange M700 rom kicking around for you to restore to should you need to return or anything.
For those that don't/can't go to WM6 here is a link to a working solution for WM5

Another victim of "not enough driver memory" problem. It has been answered before.
You may want to try remove unneeded startup drivers/services/autorun and/or kill some running stuff in the background (READ: cprog.exe). That might solve your problems.
Yes, upgrade to WM6 may work too, since it is better in managing driver memory.

[Q] Programatically change Phone-Band Settings

Hi there,
I hope I've found the right place to post my question.
While using my Touch HD I always switch off 3G to save some battery. When I need it I turn it on at Settings -> Phone -> Band (well thats the german name).
What I'd like to do is - write a program that does this for me - switch from 3G to GPRS/GSM and back. Currently I try to achieve that with Visual Studio 2008 and the 5.5/6.0 SDK.
I can't find any Assembly to set exactly these settings. Could anyone give me a hint where to look for these settings?
Thx in Advance
Steve
I read that our Blackstone uses less battery in 3G-Mode than in normal GSM
greetz
Would be nice to have a bind to switch from 3g to gsm....
For example: If you open IE or Opera the gsm will switch to 3G-mode and if you close IE/Opera it will go back to GSM

there's already a cab out there called CommManager8, which gives 8 entry items to your communication manager 1 of which is a 3G/GSM switch.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=453518
or you can always use advanced configuration to add the 3G/GSM switch into the coomunication manager
