Universal crashing after charging overnight - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Twice now I've put my device on to charge overnight, as I have for the last 8 months that I've had it, and it has not been responding when I come to get it in the morning.
I plug it in, device closed, around midnight then come to get it the next day and when I open it the screen is black, pressing power does nothing and the only thing I can do is reset. This has been happening since I did a hard reset 2-3 days ago. I have it set so that it doesn't turn off when on external power, and so it turns off after 2 minutes when on battery power.
Can anyone think what's happening to it?
Given the number of threads I've made recently you can probably guess I'm starting to regret getting this phone.

Could be freezing due to unstable ROM, could be battery... which ROM are you on?

The one which it came with out of the box from O2 in July 2006. Don't really know anything about ROMs, if there's more info you need me to retrieve I'll be happy to - just let me know how.

What programs do you have installed? Specifically, which ones are used as today plugins?
It's interesting it only started happening after hard reset... sometimes a hard reset will go 'wrong' and install funny and the best thing to do is another hard reset. Might be worth considering.

Non-standard today plugins that I use are SPB Pocketplus, SPB Backup and SPB Time.
I have just taken it off charge now and pressed power and it has just turned the backlight on full but there's nothing on the screen. The main difference between now and before the hard reset is I'm not using the SPB Time today plugin. I'm going to try disabling that.
This is quite a worry for me as I'm meant to be using it to wake me up in the mornings and I don't have another method at the moment...

It happens to me too...
my problem is related to the battery (I have 2 batteries and it happens only with one)....
soft reset first thing in the morning ;-)

It seems disabling the SPB Time today plugin did nothing.
Also, yesterday I had it plugged in for around half an hour but nothing happened. It seems it only crashes when it has been plugged in overnight.

did you try with another battery?
to me it happens only when it stay connected to the charger after it reached 100%

I don't have another battery to try with.

Another member of the 'normally I have to softreset in the morning' brigade... but then I have an alarm clock

Now this is totally unfounded and just a complete and utter guess, but based on logical thought processes of some kind anyhow... try if ya like.
1. Place in bootloader overnight hoping to discharge the battery by morning.
2. Soft reset and fully recharge BY WALL CHARGER.
3. Once fully charged, hard reset.
Reasoning:
1. Apparent way to recalibrate battery to full charge
2. Possible findings that USB charge will never charge to full capacity
3. Just in case there is some funky little OS setting that screwed up on your last hard reset.
Logical to me, but then I'm an 1/8th Irish... Hmmmm Let us know if ya do and hope it helps.

Unfortunately I don't think I'm going to be able to try that for another 3 weeks - I'm home from university and I left my wall charger there (I never use it)

i've had the exact same problem - its a faulty battery, trust me.
you're welcome to follow my thread on the subject:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285147
after ordering the right battery from ebay - the problem was solved.

I'm a little confused by your topic, this is what I've got from it - tell me if it's right:
You had the original battery - that's the top one in this picture that you attached. That started crashing at 59%.
You then got the bottom one in that picture from ebay and that battery had the same problem as mine is having.
You switched back to your old one, which solved the problem.
...What is it you're suggesting I do, get a battery from ebay? I am confused because it seems it was the battery from ebay that caused problems for you.

nekdo123 posted in my thread that he bought a different battery from ebay, which worked great.
i can now confirm that, because i recently bought the same battery as he did - and it really does work flawlessly.
it is a "PolarCell Akku 1800mah battery". the only problem in buying it is that it's on a german ebay version, so it is hard to understand the terms and conditions, because i don't speak german...
i managed to understand it by translating it with an automated translating site, which helped.
the link is on the thread... good luck!

what matters seems to be where the battery was made, apparently.
and not where you bought it from.

Well, I doubt anything coming from HongKong was made anywhere else than China.

You'll probably find that the other battery was made in China too... most things these days are...
It's probably not what country made it, but how it was manufactured.

Today I received a package from the ebayer I ordered it from. It contained a receipt but no battery. Why would they send a receipt over without a battery?

Battery at 0% / howto do full backup? (HELP!!!)

Something rather scary happened to me yesterday. I have the original car charger for my K-JAM and have been using it frquently (for TomTom mostly). Yesterday it blew its fuse, and I replaced the fuse and plugged in my wizard, which then promtly reset. Once I got it back up, it claimed my battery was empty, and even after a full night's charge it still claims my battery is at 0%.
I assumed I'd zapped the battery and got myself a new one. However, to my surprise, once I started it up again with a new battery (after having charged it - the orange led was blinking and it looked like it was recharging) it still reports 0% charge on main battery - both from the internal battery meter and my Resco Today plugin (the backup battery seems fine though)
Resets have not solved my problem, and now I'm considering a hard reset as a last ditch effort. The repair time for the K-JAM in Norway now is over one month (!!!) and I need it for a long drive through Europe in two weeks, and cannot wait for a month to get it fixed. For some, a hard reset is not all that dramatic, but I've spent a LOT of time tweaking my wizard into what it is today, and I'd very, very much like to keep everything. So, to my two questions:
1: Is there any possibility that something is funny in software than can be fixed here?
2: If I have to hard reset, can anyone point me to software or a thread that describes how to preserve all setting, registry tweaks, windows startup/start menu, settings etc. through a hard reset? (i.e. what to back up and how to do it in practice? I've used SPB Backup before, but there has been warnings that it will not work as a restore after a hard reset, can anyone confirm this?
I'm a little desperate here guys, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
One more thing: when the Wizard is in the charger, it does recognize the fact that it is being charged (and thus does not turn itself off), but at the very instant I pull the plug, it dies. Another strange thing is that the little battery icon at the top of the screen indicates a full battery, but if I click it and get to Windows' poer settings screen, it claims the battery is empty.
Does the battery meter read some registry values I can manipulate?

1. I do not know what can be done with for software for this, but probably your battery has to be calibrated.
2. Sprite backup can do all that. When you run Sprite backup, the default settings for the "backup" button is enough to do retain all your tweaks, data and applications. unfortunately, they stopped shipping trial versions. So you cannot "try before you buy".
Second that, buy Sprite back up program. It is really a good program that is now supporting the upgrading of ROM's which is something that can make your life SO much easier!
Usually if a fuse blows it's not for nothing. It might have fried the charging circuitry in the Wizard by the way...

I'm afraid you're probably right on the spot there. I've tried a charging both my batteries, and neither of them seem to get charged, even after a hard reset, so I have now admitted defeat and scheduled a repair, which means no GPS navigation through Europe this summer
I did manage to make a full backup with SPB Backup, but since the device won't stay on long enough for me to restore now, I'll have to wait and see if it works. I'm not doing a upgrade, so it might work flawlessly - only time will tell.
Thanks for the fedback though, it's much appreciated!
Olesk. Were you successful with restore using Spb-Backup? I use Spb-Backup buy had not heard the rumour that it might not restore after a hard re-set. I would be pleased to know how yours worked. Thanks.

I haven't tried yet, as it decides to die from loss of battery power in the process. No idea why it suddenly decides to do this, and I'm not convinced it's SPB's fault, so I'll try again once the Wizard is back from the repair shop. I'll post the results hare and send you a private message as well once I try it, but it might take weeks in the worst case though.

the exec blackout issue pls post here to solve

As there are various threads about this issue i have just read 6 threads relating to this issue.
its seems odd that everyone's batt or rom problem occurs to so many people at once,
but im just perplexed how everyone can get this at about the same time july aug,how can we all get the same prob at the same time on diff networks, with diff aged devices
I did a hard reset and the problems came after that, but with rom i used before with no probs
other people have renewed there battery and still have the issue so i dont think that its a battery issue
so can it either be a virus or a programme glich?,
so is it poss a site can have an hidden virus that hit exec's,as i dont file share or add any recent new prgs or softwares
i didnt go on this site or the ftp with my exec,so i dont think its anything picked up off the net
can people please post up what they did with there exec previous to the failure
to solve this lets narrow down things by giving input to find a common casue
please reply>
date aprrox this occured:
did you swop ROM?
Did issue come following a hard reset?
have you renewed the battery?
if yes did it resolve the issue?
how old is your exec?
do you have anti virus on your pda?
have you let the battery die then done a full 24hrs recharge?
did you swop ROM?no last update was the tmob update months ago but that had ran fine before and had few hard resetts ince then with no issues
Did issue come following a hard reset?yes fine before did a hard reset nothing else done no progs added
have you renewed the battery?nope
if yes did it resolve the issue? n/a
how old is your exec? err about 7month old poss
do you have anti virus on your pda?nope
have you let the battery die then done a full 24hrs recharge? yes still a prob
i have put my SD card into the pc and back to pda so maybe that has tranfered a virus to device
has anyone else found any other clues to this puzzle please
I have three batteries. Two original sized 1620mAH batteries and one 3200mAH extended battery. The only battery that blacks out on me around 30-35% is the original 1620mAH battery that shipped with the unit. Which leads me to believe, it's a battery problem. The other two batteries will live to 4-5%. The extended battery takes quite an abuse (Heavy usage) to drain down that far.
did you find that the standard battery was ok for a while then just went iffy?
if so after what duration ty

Yep. 5-6 months. I'll have to see how long these Ebay batteries last before they do the same thing
hmm maybe short life span thank you for your input mate
>>update>>
reg clean with device plugged into the mains (forgot name of prog i used)
just removed battery wiped with alcohol wipe, same to the batt terminal in the unit
cleaned usb port as best as poss and end of the charger
hard reset>then instant soft reset
charged for 4 hours
soft reset and all seems well im unsure if it will last, ill post over next few days if this has worked in my case but so far so good

Universal gets stuck right after charging led turns green. help!

hey everyone,
i have this really weird problem,
when i plug in my charger, the right led turns orange to indicate the uni is charging.
the problem is, when the charging is over and the battery reaches a 100%, the uni just gets stuck!
if it was on standby mode while the led turned green, the phone is dead.
cant turn it on, cant call it, cant do nothing, the green light doesnt even turn off when i unplug it!
However, if the device was on while the charging was over, it is still fully operatable, but the green light won't turn off also, no matter what i do. even the iLauncher indicator and the normal battery indicator shows its still charging.
at first i thought it was the "hide battery icon" hack i installed, but i uninstalled and got the icon back, it and the problem is still there.
the only solution is to soft reset. but this is very uncomfortable - i cant reset my phone every evening
BTW, im using brand new battery, just a few days old, but i don't think this happend to me all the time with it. do you think it might be the problem?
what's wrong with my uni??
Please help!
i have an spv m5000, with an i-mate jasjar rom (i find it more comfortable)
Rom: 1.90.96 WWE
Radio: 1.13.00
ExtROM: 1.95.95 WWE (but i cooked it and removed + added some programs)
Same problem here. Please help! I've tried two new batteries, same story.

Actually you already answered your problem, it is probably caused by one of your apps since a soft reset cures it. I suggest do a Backup and try a hard reset and see if it still persist. If the problem went away, then it confirms that it is caused by one of your apps, otherwise it could be the battery or a hardware problem.

I just upgraded to the latest orange rom yesterday and the problem was still there.
but i only checked that AFTER i installed all the apps again. stupid me.
so i hard resetted again and im charging now. results should be in about 1 hour.
but yesterday when i checked, i found out something very interesting:
when i switched back to the old original battery, the problem was GONE, and the uni was working perfectly.
so this suggests this is a battery problem.
i looked at the batteries side by side and found out there are a few minor differences:
1. the original was made in taiwan, while the new one from ebay was from china.
2. they had a different product number underneath the barcode.
3. the new one was a little lighter than the original.
(made me think: might it be a fake?)
besides that, they had the same voltage, same 1620mah, and both was packed by dynapack, supposedly.
after going back to ebay, i found out there is another battery for sale, a little more expansive than the one i bought, but this one WAS made in taiwan,
but still had a different product number. the other ones were just like the on i bought. made in china, and the same product number as my new one.
so nekdo123, can you please check your batteries too, and see where did they come from?
i'll post some pics later on to show you the batteries.
Original one was made in Taiwan. Second one was made in China and third one in Hong Kong.
I'll try original one again (I've stored it) and will report in one or two hours (just to charge it).
I've bought a new one when original one started to shut down my PDA at 45% of battery power.
I've also tried many ROM's (original ones, hacked ones, radio 1.09 and 1.13,...), and problem stays.
hmm, interesting.
well, no surprises: my charging is complete and the problem still stays with the new battery.
funny though, i bought a new battery because of the same problem: my original one started to crash my pda at 59%.
i added a picture to show you the product numbers. the above battery is the original one, the one in the pda is the new one from ebay.
you can even see the font on the battery is a little different.
is the product number on your battery from china the same as mine? how about the one from taiwan?
Yes, they are! Hong kong's has tottally different Model No. (CS-EXECSL).
Did you try putting original one back in and to see, what happens with it at full charge?
yep, as i said:

i fully charged it untill the green light came on and the device wasn't stuck. it was still working perfectly, and the green led turned off after disconnectig the charger, and i was able to continue to work as usual.
Ups, I should remember, that you've alredy wrote that.
Well, it seems that it's battery problem. The BIG question now is, what battery to buy? I've bought two different ones and both are not working.
I've looked at eBay and found DYNA TAIWAN made batteries. But, they have same PN as this China ones, without "M" on end of it. So, I don't dare to buy third one, without knowin that it'll work!
What will you do?

I would rather walk to the stores than ordering from the Net...
I presume it may be fake batteries and that's why u can got it cheap....sorry if i'm wrong..
The only problem is the price. It's 5 times higher than over net.
yep, it the same problem here in israel.
the one thats made in tawian costs about 23$ at ebay (if i remember correctly), and it costs about 105$ in stores (in israel).
i think im gonna wait till i finish all my expanses on the universal (2gb sd card, silicone case, etc...) and after a couple of monthes when i have more spare money i'll just buy the one from taiwan.
and by the way, i wasn't referring to the product number on the right, the one without the "M" in the end.
i was talking about the one underneath the barcode, the one that starts with "DY..."
by the way, notice the one from taiwan:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Battery-XDA-Exe...ryZ75446QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting
they state its an "Original Dynapack Battery", while the others don't mention anything about it.
Now I've bought this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/PolarCell-Li-Po...6822659QQihZ012QQcategoryZ38918QQcmdZViewItem
Will tell you when I get it, how's with it.
brave of you, buying a third one so soon
i wasn't able to see it's picture in the details, though.
where was it made? and what about the p/n?
and btw, what brand of universal do you have? is it orange spv-m5000 aswell?
looking forward to hearing the results.
I still hope that it's a battery fault. After third one I don't know what else I can do.
Mine is O2 XDA EXEC. I don't know, why you're asking about serial numbers, but here they are:
Taiwan't: DY8A85AD000980, China's: DY8A658N002140. Maybe you'll figure out something from these numbers?
Actually I bought an used PDA. the seller gave me one of new batteries I have. I've bought one, because his "new" didn't work (had simptoms like your's). So, I've bought another one, thinking, it's a battery problem, because with original one, PDA work like it should.
Will see, how works fourth one
Hello shlomki!
I've received battery today and I've tested it. It works like a charm (and stone rolled away from my heart - imagine, that there is a problem with PDA not with battery).
So, I recommend you this seller.
The seller of my second battery(Hong Kong's one) also sent me a new battery. I'll receive it next week. Will tell you if there is any difference with that one (if not else, I'll have it for backup - of course, if it'll work).
hey!
thats great to hear!!!
i feel that stone also, now that i can get a battery that works for sure!
how did you get your hong kong seller to send you a new battery?!
how did you convince him? did you have to send the old one back to him??
i see that the new battery you ordered is 1800mah, how does that work for you with charging it to the fullest? does it work like any other 1620mah battery??
How did I convince Hong Kong's seller? I didn't give him an opinion on eBay. I wanted to try battery before I do that. And after it didn't work, I just wrote him an email, that I have a battery problem. The next day he sent me an email, that he sent me a new battery and asked how can we arrange sending "old" one back to him on his costs!
I wrote him, that costs are so low, that there is really no problem about that. So, I'll wait till I receive a new one and then I'll send him old one back.
I don't know why, but I have a feeling that it also won't work (same serie, same error - I guess it's a chip error in battery). Will see when I receive it.
About new battery. Yes, it's like normal 1620mAh (maybe charging takes minute more or less - don't know, didn't time it). But, it's stronger and I think it should las that few % more time.
Yust for info. I've got a replacement battery today. Same problem! So I guess, there are different hardware revisions of Universals and not all batteries will work in all revisions.
Luckily Polar Cell's one works like a charm!

Something bricked my phone.

My phone, which I've had since waiting in line on March 24th quit on me today. I'm not sure if it was the culprit but, I installed a program called Lookout mobile security last night 5/6. When I started the phone this morning put it on the table, got some java and when I got back nothing..no buttons working...ok..no problem tried a soft reset...nothing..ok now starting to get worried. pluged into power source..boot up screen. whew..low battery. then blank, a few seconds..boot up screen AGAIN!..by now I'm in full freakout...Attempted to calm down.. didn't work..thought ok..most everything is backed up..lets do a hard reset..didn't WANT to but anyway! Did the hard reset .. Still had the same problem...Had to pinch myself HARD to make sure this wasn't a nightmare. Went to the TMobile store and the associate put me in touch with technical support (they were Super) Going to give me a new phone but, have to wait until next Friday to get it...and then tweaking and rebuilding it to what I want...I should have been ready for this coming from an iphone...All it takes is one $%@# program again, not saying it was the one mentioned above but, one with a malicious code or something that destroyed over five weeks of building a phone from scratch. Sorry about the rant... I still LOVE this phone. .
so you couldn't even boot it in to the bootloader? wow! Maybe you should flash HardSPL before trying to install that program again as there is far less chance of bricking it if you have HardSPL installed. Even if the rom gets completely stuffed, you can still boot it and reflash from SD.
All I can recommend is install a ROM via Micro SD card and maybe doing a Task 29 before you reinstall a ROM
for US Tmobile: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614
For Leo: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
Or maybe try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668347
If those don't work then I don't know what else to recommend
They want my old phone back once I get the new one so, I'm going
to let them have it just as I turned it on yesterday. Let them
find out what the problem was created by.
I was about to install that "lookout" software...but after reading this I might as well hold on.
did you leave it on the charger overnight or did you just turn on your phone in the morning.
if you didnt have it charge all night, maybe all you needed to do was leave it on the charger a little longer before starting it back on.
i noticed that some phones with a dead battery and on the charger will sometimes not stay on until it has gotten a minimum charge on the battery.

Setting up the new phone shouldn't be a big deal if you did actually backup; just stick the old microSD in the new phone and run whatever backup app you had on the card.
I put it on the power supply and it is in the constant loop of
the first screen that appears. I am going to seriously look into
HardSPL. Thanks to all the good input from everybody.
Well now even customer service is at a loss. They cannot phantom why why two separate phones have the same problem. While I had CS on the phone we went thru various senario's to try to get the phone to operate properly. I even had them give me a new SIM card and that did not work...I suggested the problem might be the battery as it could have gone bad. You guys think the phone is playing hard to get--try to find a replacement battery! No stores within a 20 mile radius had one in stock....! Needless to say they are going to ship me yet another phone. plus a new battery and hopefully it will take care of the problem. The sales associate did a hard reset on both my old and the new phone without results so that unfortnately is not a viable solution. Now I am in the game I hate the most........The waiting one! ..

^^ what the op says above. This happened to me (and my gf as well) on our HD2s. The first time (mines) this happened, i hooked it up onto my car charger and immediately tried to turn it on.. it would go onto the TMO screen, but quickly shut down and loop. After realizing I may be trying to jump the step, I unhooked it from the charger, took the battery off, put it back on, hooked it back onto the charger and let it sit for about 10-20 minutes charging. Turned it back on and viola! It wasn't a brick.. I can almost guarantee this is your problem.
But I may be wrong lol...
So, now after 2 replacement phone sent to me, I find out that
it was the battery all along. Problem is that after the second phone
arrived and I had the same problem I called customer service and
explained it to them....They said a battery would be sent next day
air...Ok...called the next day and was told that the rep never sent
in the order...Long story short....I've almost been without my phone
for two weeks now and, all I need is a frelling battery.
Problem is there are NONE around me..I've tried every tm store in
the area, All radio shacks batteries plus...you name it....
I am being sent a battery UPS ground...could take 7 more days.
Just took the battery from my fiance's phone and it works
so, right now I would pay a ransom for a battery just to have my
phone back!
I had to do a hard reset after downloading that lookout trial.
at this point I don't know what caused it..Has anyone ever heard
of an application causing the battery to go bad?...I worked really
hard to keep the battery I had in good condition.. I hope UPS
delivers soon!
This is odd I have used Lookout Mobile on my phone since I had it. Mind you not had it for long, since April but still its never bricked or did anything that hindered the phone. I maybe another program.

Random Power Off & Boot Loop Galaxy S4 GT-I9505

Hi,
Not sure what is happening to my phone. I have had stock 4.2.2 rooted with CF auto root for months and had no problems. A few weeks ago my phone started to randomly shut down, not properly just complete power off in an instant. It would then start to reboot and get to the Samsung S4 logo screen before powering off again and trying to reboot and then gets stuck in a constant loop. At first I was able to just reinstall CF root with Odin and it would start up OK. I could also get it to start by re-installing Philz recovery.
Now though, that doesn't work so this morning I installed JB 4.3 I9505XXUEMK8-PRE-ROOTED-KNOX-FREE-ODEX-FULL.tar.MD5 and it says that it is rooted and everything seems to be OK but after an hour or so it has started to randomly shut down again. If I attempt to go into recovery (stock) and clear the cache partition it will reboot normally and run for a while until I use an app and do it again. Am I doing something wrong here or is my phone just knackered?

Maybe is coz the RAM is overloaded. Take a look in:
- Press HOME button for 2 secs
- U will see 3 icons in the bottom. Click on the "cheese"
- Tab "RAM"
- If ur phone use more of 1 GB of RAM for run ur apps maybe will be time of delete bloatware
I had the same problem in GT-I9500, I had to get it repaired in a service center.
There was a problem with mother board to charger port connection..
Hope it helps you!

Thanks. Probably not as I've been told that warrantee will be void now as I've flashed whilst having Knox installed which I understand to be irreversable

If u wanna try to recover some RAM u can delete some bloatware that u dont use. Tc with what u delete. I let u some info about if u wanna try -> HERE
I have this problem, I swear it is because of the dodgy battery. (I have the BD battery)
When I plug it in to charge all works again properly.
Last night my battery was showing in the high 60's the phone went off. When I put charger in the battery was at 3%!
Very annoying, going to take to Geek Squad tonight and see if they wil lreplace battery. Guy here at work has same phone, different battery derial number and no problems at all.
Hopefully they will change the battery, I don't have any paperwork with me but the phone is obviously within the 1 year warrenty.

Interesting. I have noticed a couple of times when I look at the battery stats that it has drained from say 90% to 3% in less than 1min, just a verticle line. When I plug it in to charge it says that it's at 90% or whatever it was. Other times it needs charging and is almost dead. It's as though it has shorted out. I wonder if that is the problem here.

Thanks for that. It's quite a list. I'll go through it and remove the ones i think i can do without and see how it goes.
Same Issue
I have the same problem with my I9505
- It shuts down randomly (sometimes you see a few seconds in advance that your connection to the mobile antennas disconnects), when you look at it, in the middle of a phonecall, ... whenever it's nog plugged in to the power of external battery
- It's almost impossible to get it powered on again (gets stuck in a loop of rebooting: most times at the Samsung logo or after it's on for a few seconds), unless you connect your charger that is connected to the powergrid or external battery
- sometimes it resets the phonelanguage to default (so in stead of for example Dutch, everything is in English again)
I just cleared the cache and removed some programs...
Fingers crossed
--> I'll give an update if anything changes

I've tried that as well. Didn't work. The problem you describe is exactly the problem I have. I have ordered another battery but I don't think it's that. I'll let you know if it is. I hadn't noticed that it always boots OK if it is plugged into the mains. Wish I knew what was causing the problems.
Random Shutdown and boot loop
So I think I am finally getting somewhere. I took this screenshot straight after it shut down and got stuck in a boot loop. So I plugged it into the mains and it started OK. The battery just gives up when i stress the device with a hungry app or when booting which causes a heavy drain on the on the power even when its got a healthy charge. Got a new battery on order. Take a look at the screenshot. You can see the battery instantaneously drops to zero charge until it's re-booted on the mains.

in the list I forgot to mention that the known wifi's are also wiped. --> you have to connect to them again...
I too am having this exact problem; I'm glad to hear it is not only me, not that it helps any of us.
I posted in another thread, but the symptoms everyone here are describing are exactly what I am seeing:
- Sudden battery drop from anything (it's happened to me before about 5 minutes after unplugging from the wall socket) to zero; then phone goes into a loop unless I plug it back into the mains socket
- When plugging into the mains socket with this issue, sometimes the battery is empty and sometimes it shoots straight back up to where it was
- Plants Vs Zombies 2 is the sure-fire way for me to reproduce this issue
- examined logs (although not sure if the right one) using CatLog; nothing obvious (in fact the last line on one of the logs is litterally cut halfway through)
- Wifi connection details lost occasionally
I have reflashed about 4 other (4.3) ROMs (and I tried a 4.4 GE one too) and they all seem to do the same; I am wondering if it is something to do with the non-Knox modems required to flash the 4.3 ROMs as I don't think I had this problem before updating to 4.3. I don't have the time or patience to revert back to a 4.2 ROM to test this though.
I can go for a couple of days without this happening, but fire up PvZ2 and here we go again.
I too have a new battery on order (allegedly genuine from a well-known auction site), so I will update this thread when that arrives to see if it makes any difference.
I don't like this post for one reason.... it means that the problem I am facing won't solve with a format and a new fresh flash... :crying:
I was spending some time on XDA searching for a good stable firmware to flash because I am having your exactly same issues on my phone... I just tought my phone got a bit messy because I have 130 apps installed and a lot of stuff on it.. so I was just thinking of solving all my problems with a new rom... but then I found this 3d...
So you are telling me that my problem won't get solved so easely? How am I going to deal with a Phone that randomly shuts up??? I need my phone and over the last week it got always worse.. first it shut up at about 5pm.. (at ca 15% charge) then at 3pm and 50% charge... today it shut up at 11am and 80% charge... soon I won't be able to use my phone at all!!
I'm happy I backed up all my data today, but it still doesn't solve my problem since I really need my phone... :crying:
This evening I'm going to flash anyway... let's see what happens..
PS I own a GT-I9505 with 4.2.2 stock rom (root)
Random Shutdown and boot loop
Sorry to hear there's a few more out there with the same problem that I am having. AhHm... Sorry, WAS having. I tried re-flashing all sorts of ROMS from 4.2.2 to Echoe KitKat 4.4, flashed CF Root, reinstalled philz touch recovery god knows how many times all to no avail. I now know that it is nothing to do with your ROM or phone setup. It's Samsungs crappy battery. As soon as I put in my new battery problems solved. I have been running multi-window apps whilst having FB on in the background and watching a film all at the same time. If this was gonna crash it would have done by now.
Problem solved. Don't buy the cheap SPB £9.99 one on ebay it has lots of bad reviews. I got this one with no problems:

I'm glad you solved.. this means there could be a solution to my problem... in any case the fact that alla batteries here seem to fail in the same week is really strange!!
And the thing I hate most is that a 500€ phone shouldn't be dying after just some months!
After having spent some time googling around.. I found a solution... well, not exactly a solution... let's say I found the core of the problem...
I found some very interesting posts on the misfuncion on all Samsung S4 Batteries Made and Produced in China with SN starting with BD....
And guess what? my battery corresponds!!
If you look at the battery you will notice that it is a little "bumped" and not perfectly flat...
Here in Italy many users went to samsung customer service and got the battery replaced!
Tomorrow I will check to see if I can get a new battery... for now I'm happy to know exactly what to do in order to get my phone working again!

Yeah I found that out tonight also. I called samsung earlier today and they said if it is less than 2 years old they will repair it and I should send it to them. I have flashed so many ROMS since I purchased it last year and one or two with Knox which as we know registers that it has had a custom download which voids the warrantee so I thought it would be a waste of time sending it to them. Also I need my phone for work so it was easier to purchase a new battery.
