Something bricked my phone. - HD2 General

My phone, which I've had since waiting in line on March 24th quit on me today. I'm not sure if it was the culprit but, I installed a program called Lookout mobile security last night 5/6. When I started the phone this morning put it on the table, got some java and when I got back nothing..no buttons working...ok..no problem tried a soft reset...nothing..ok now starting to get worried. pluged into power source..boot up screen. whew..low battery. then blank, a few seconds..boot up screen AGAIN!..by now I'm in full freakout...Attempted to calm down.. didn't work..thought ok..most everything is backed up..lets do a hard reset..didn't WANT to but anyway! Did the hard reset .. Still had the same problem...Had to pinch myself HARD to make sure this wasn't a nightmare. Went to the TMobile store and the associate put me in touch with technical support (they were Super) Going to give me a new phone but, have to wait until next Friday to get it...and then tweaking and rebuilding it to what I want...I should have been ready for this coming from an iphone...All it takes is one $%@# program again, not saying it was the one mentioned above but, one with a malicious code or something that destroyed over five weeks of building a phone from scratch. Sorry about the rant... I still LOVE this phone. .

so you couldn't even boot it in to the bootloader? wow! Maybe you should flash HardSPL before trying to install that program again as there is far less chance of bricking it if you have HardSPL installed. Even if the rom gets completely stuffed, you can still boot it and reflash from SD.

All I can recommend is install a ROM via Micro SD card and maybe doing a Task 29 before you reinstall a ROM
for US Tmobile: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614
For Leo: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
Or maybe try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668347
If those don't work then I don't know what else to recommend

They want my old phone back once I get the new one so, I'm going
to let them have it just as I turned it on yesterday. Let them
find out what the problem was created by.

I was about to install that "lookout" software...but after reading this I might as well hold on.

did you leave it on the charger overnight or did you just turn on your phone in the morning.
if you didnt have it charge all night, maybe all you needed to do was leave it on the charger a little longer before starting it back on.
i noticed that some phones with a dead battery and on the charger will sometimes not stay on until it has gotten a minimum charge on the battery.

Setting up the new phone shouldn't be a big deal if you did actually backup; just stick the old microSD in the new phone and run whatever backup app you had on the card.

I put it on the power supply and it is in the constant loop of
the first screen that appears. I am going to seriously look into
HardSPL. Thanks to all the good input from everybody.

Well now even customer service is at a loss. They cannot phantom why why two separate phones have the same problem. While I had CS on the phone we went thru various senario's to try to get the phone to operate properly. I even had them give me a new SIM card and that did not work...I suggested the problem might be the battery as it could have gone bad. You guys think the phone is playing hard to get--try to find a replacement battery! No stores within a 20 mile radius had one in stock....! Needless to say they are going to ship me yet another phone. plus a new battery and hopefully it will take care of the problem. The sales associate did a hard reset on both my old and the new phone without results so that unfortnately is not a viable solution. Now I am in the game I hate the most........The waiting one! ..

^^ what the op says above. This happened to me (and my gf as well) on our HD2s. The first time (mines) this happened, i hooked it up onto my car charger and immediately tried to turn it on.. it would go onto the TMO screen, but quickly shut down and loop. After realizing I may be trying to jump the step, I unhooked it from the charger, took the battery off, put it back on, hooked it back onto the charger and let it sit for about 10-20 minutes charging. Turned it back on and viola! It wasn't a brick.. I can almost guarantee this is your problem.
But I may be wrong lol...

So, now after 2 replacement phone sent to me, I find out that
it was the battery all along. Problem is that after the second phone
arrived and I had the same problem I called customer service and
explained it to them....They said a battery would be sent next day
air...Ok...called the next day and was told that the rep never sent
in the order...Long story short....I've almost been without my phone
for two weeks now and, all I need is a frelling battery.
Problem is there are NONE around me..I've tried every tm store in
the area, All radio shacks batteries plus...you name it....
I am being sent a battery UPS ground...could take 7 more days.
Just took the battery from my fiance's phone and it works
so, right now I would pay a ransom for a battery just to have my
phone back!

I had to do a hard reset after downloading that lookout trial.

at this point I don't know what caused it..Has anyone ever heard
of an application causing the battery to go bad?...I worked really
hard to keep the battery I had in good condition.. I hope UPS
delivers soon!

This is odd I have used Lookout Mobile on my phone since I had it. Mind you not had it for long, since April but still its never bricked or did anything that hindered the phone. I maybe another program.

XDA II Coma like state

Right guys and girls, this "coma" stuff is driving me MAD!!!!!!!!!
okie the latest example is last night i put the XDA on charge not in the cradle as usual as i was not at home, but that seems to make no difference, anyhow i turn the screen off by pushing the power button (top left) yellow light turns on and begins to charge, next morning i pick up the device to use it and nothing.....not a sausage, dead as a doe-doe.
Im not able to power it on, im not able to "wake it up" with a call to it, buttons do not work at all, screen is dead, the yellow light stays on even when charger not connected, however it turns of several hours later.
Ok at this point in the past the only way to fix this was to hard-reset it, which is a royal pain in the arse as you all know, and lost all my info i worked on, on that last trip.
Except this time, it really is dead, Hard-reset dont work, removing the main battery and letter the internal one take the hit dont work, verious combos of reset, hard-reset, with and without battery. nothing
nope, this time it seems totally screwed, anyone have any ideas
O2 is going to get an angery phone call, as soon as there tech support peeps goes back to work after the weekend, they said originally it was just a glitch and i was to update my software (rom). Some damn glitch!
Anyhow in a bid to remain slightly more sain than i will be i was hoping that some of you guys have had a problem like this or even better know how to fix it
How you can help
Regards
Darren

well maybe your phone is just broken
being angry at o2 will not help anything they dont make the hardware they dont make the software they just sell the device
Hum, intresting, before i start, O2 is to blame, in the world of retail and more importantly sales contracts, they are my first and direct point of call, in law, when i give them cash and they except it, they are entering in a contract which sticks them in the position to be blamed, however it is not about blame, its about getting somthing done about it, and they are the people who pull the stings, i do understand that they do not make these devices but thats not the point.
16 year old kids may be a bit put out when there phone stops working, however those who need there phone / PDA to work have more issues when things go wrong.
Whats more intresting is that 1 hour ago, the phone unexpectedly turned on by its self, although not surprisingly, all the data was lost. It seems to of woke its self up when the last remaints of power in the internal battery was about to die, to tell me this information.
Whilest i cant conferm this, if the others who have had this problem before
were to leave the phone off the charger for the battery to die, without trying the usual hard reset, i would expect it to wake up to tell you its about to die and then at this point plug the charger back in and hay presto!
well i'm not saying that you cant sue or demand your money back or place the blame on o2 i'm just saying that you cant expect then to solve your problem apart from reporting the issue to thc who again can blame it on microsoft
dazza8082,
What ROM version do you have on your machine?
I had the same problem with my MDA2 which came with ROM version 1.60 or something like that, but I managed to upgrade my MDA2 to 1.72WWE that I found somewhere in this forums and the problem was solved ever since. I even had lots of sudden SD memory wipes, so far so good... It's been like 4 or 5 months since the upgrade and counting...
The upgrade procedure was performed via the cradle and not via the SD card. But if for some reason you can't manage to boot your device you can always try the SD upgrade method.
I really don't remember the procedure but you can find lots of information somewhere in this forums.
Have you tried to get into Boot mode and then reset the device just to see what happens?
Press the Power button, the reset button and the joypad down at the same time and you should see a DOS-like screen indicating you are in boot mode, from there just press the reset button by itself and see if that helps. You will loose all your data with this procedure, but at this point chances are that you already lost everything in the device anyways.
Best of luck!

Computer won't recognize evo after failed root attempt!

So I had to get my screen repaired, which they did, but in turn they ruined some other things. So when I brought it back the next day, they gave me a refurb evo. Not bad, whatever. But unfortunately, it came with 2.2 which I'd never rooted before. So I started with this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765496 but I ran into a problem and was forced to close cmd, but then I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787304 and tried it out, but now connecting my evo to the computer after the whole ADB thing doesn't bring up the menu. It simply charges, but says USB device not recognized. Did I mess something up real bad with the adb thing? Any help is greatly appreciated.. this is getting really frustrating
Now I'm not even sure if it's charging.. the light shows after I plug it in for a minute, but it says battery status: Discharging. The battery icon isn't showing it as charging though.. This is really starting to worry me. Refurb crap
I dont understand this:

If you used unrevoked why are you now trying to use adb? What menu? My shot in the dark translation is that you told it to remember your setting to charge by default.
Menu-Settings-Connect to PC- check ask me.
I first tried the old method which I posted with the complex cmd stuff and everything, it didn't work. So then I was gonna try the simpler method of HBOOT and everything, but when I connected to the computer to get rid of PC36IMG from the SD card first it won't recognize the evo. And the default is set to charge, but ask me is checked. It doesn't ask, it just lags it for a little while and then starts charging.
EDIT: Guys this is getting ridiculous! I've tried 2 different batteries and 2 different charging cables and if I can get the charging light to turn on, it just says discharging! The phone won't even read my SD card! I don't know what to do! I'm gonna take it off the cable now so it doesn't completely the discharge the battery and hopefully wakes me up when I need it to, if the battery lasts. Please guys, I need help asap I've been working on this thing for hours and I have a midterm to study for..
Double edit: I'm gonna put it on the cable.. hoping that once it discharges all the way it'll start charging? Or even if it does drain all the way it'll stay on at least.. I can't even get the charging light to turn on right now. Man, this is horrible. I'm really really worried. I just paid $110 to get this fixed, this is driving me crazy. If anyone can help, please do.
Unrevoked, then rom manager to flash a new rom = full root in 20 minutes at the most.
To do the unrevoked method, as far as I know, I have to connect to my computer and do that HBOOT crap right? Well, I can't connect to my computer. In fact, it just rained my battery last night, shut off the phone, then charged it to about 90%. Now I turned it on again, and it's just "discharging" all over again. This is ridiculous. I'm gonna go back to the Sprint store for the fourth day in a row and probably end up getting another refurb piece of crap that won't work.

Please help. Possible Debranding gone wrong

Hi Guys (and possibly even Gals)
I haven't been on in quite some time so forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong place. I would also like to apologise in advance for the length of this post.
I really hope somebody can help. I used to have a branded Vodafone SE X10i which I debranded for obvious reasons (I'm not bloody waiting for a lifetime for updates because vodafone and there customer service are ****e) and everything was fine and dandy in the world. However I then lost my phone and had to have another issued which of course was branded but that didn't bother me because at the time it had the latest software on it. When SE sent me an email to say that 2.1 was here I was of course over joyed, that is until I found out that vodafone were once again with holding it for "testing" purposes for an apparently undeterminable amount of time. Naturally my "Voda-rage" came back with a vengance and I immediately set out to de-brand my handset once again only to find that with recent updates SE had made to PC suite and SEUS the old method I had discovered no longer worked. I tried a different method involving switching files during the update download (using SEUS) of which there is a tutorial which I have put the link to in my signature. I was unable to get this method to work for me and after 10 attempts gave up and went to "www.fastgsm.com" after reading a comment from someone having similar problems.
Now this is where I have the problem.
I paid for the debranding and they let me download a client that was supposed to flash the phone for me and put the generic uk software onto it. Everything went fine and when the program has finished it told me to unplug my phone and start it up, the only problem is that I can't, the phone will no longer switch on. The screen clearly illuminates slightly but the phone never actually starts. I did this last night and thought that perhaps I just needed to wait a while but after leaving it all night the battery just drained and the phone never started up. The phone also doesn't charge anymore, it charges enough power to try and switch the phone on, pauses to switch the phone on and of course never starts up and just sits there till the battery drains again and the cycle continues. I have e-mailed the site but have not heard anything back and I'm just hoping that somone out there is able to come up with a solution that doesn't include claiming on my insurance again!
Any and all help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated (apart from the dumb ones....only kidding please help LoL)
Kind Regards
John Murchie
Aaaahh you should have read all the threads here first! The old method for debranding using SEUS doesn't work anymore.
You could have used the flash tool (free) method to flash the X10i 2.1 Global firmware or another X10i version, just do a quick search here and you'll find different files to download.
Now it may be too late because you need your battery to be at least 50% charged when you flash a phone, might be worth a try, but remember, the X10 won't charge in flash mode (when you boot holding "Back").
I hope someone else has a solution for the battery problem, if you can get it charged, using flash tool your problem is solved.
Thanks for you input. I did look around here briefly for a solution but after trying to sort it out myself I eventually gave in and just went with the easy option of paying. only cost me £6 as well so it wasn't all that bad! I'm not really sure how I can charge the battery up either as I don't know anyone who has the phone that I could get to charge it or swap batteries. Could try Vodafone but I don't see them being all that helpful really LoL
Kind Regards
John Murchie
When you plug the charger in do you get the charge light ?
Sent from my spectrum zx
When I plug it into the charger I get a flashing red light and then after a few minutes it becomes a constant green light and then a few minutes later the light goes out and it tried to switch itself on. A few minutes later ( I assumes because the battery gives out) the screens goes dark again and the red light starts flshing and the process starts again!

To be fair, it doesn't come much easier than putting the phone in flash mode and running a flash tool. Have you taken your battery out for at least 10 seconds?, if not do so, put it back in and turn the phone on.
Evidentely I'm more dense then most people then, aren't I. I have tried removing my battery for periods of time but unfortunately to no avail. Thanks for you input!
If the battery is so drained that it can't last the few seconds that is needed to boot to the charging mode then I would suggest you go the store and ask if you can charge the battery in their display phone. 10 minutes will do to get you going.
Yes I was thinking that, only problem is the phone shops around here can be rather ****ty to say the least LoL. I'm going to pop into town and give it a go though. Be a shame to have to claim on my insurance!
I have heard back from the site that supplied the program and they asked me to send the log file and then got back to me saying that everything worked fine on there end!
Obviously it didn't or I wouldn't be having this issue >_< LoL

LG G2 (AT&T D800) bricked itself

So there I was, browsing the Slick Deals app, when the phone locked up, turned off, and now it won't do crap. Decent charge on the battery at the time, ~90%. Stock ROM and rooted for over a year with no issues to speak of. I got the phone on day 1 (Sept 2013?) I'd taken care of this phone better than any previous to it. Always in a protective case, always with a screen protector. Never dropped, never left in a car or in the sun. My plan was to go 3 years with this one I liked it so much. Well so much for that idea.
If I hold down the power button long enough I can get it to boot some of the time. Recovery mode and download mode are not options, just won't do it. It did the whole 15 drives thing when plugged into USB once, but there is no consistency to it. I read several threads on how to unbrick the phone, but the whole Linux install and img files are little over my head to try.
I went ahead and ordered a new battery for it, just in case that's what's causing the issue. I was told if a cell in the battery flips out it can cause the phone not to work properly. At one point I had the phone charging while off and could see the charging screen. It got to 95% and never any higher. Managed to boot the phone for 30 seconds then it shut off again. I quit messing with it after that.
Could it be just a battery gone rouge all of a sudden, or do I have bigger problems? I hate to abandon this phone, but I don't want to spend any more money on it to fix it either. I bought a used Nexus 5 off a friend for a song to get back up and running with my SIM card, so I have time now to work on the G2. If I can resurrect it, the Nexus will serve as a nice backup phone in case of future disasters.

Bricked My 6P, But Not Sure Why/how.. Any help is appreciated

I'm pretty lost on this one and after hours of searching, have not the slightly clue how (or if) to fix it...if it can even be fixed.
Past few days I've noticed the phone randomly rebooting, some of the times it says my battery is 0% when it's almost full. Today I went to go wipe it and reflash Pure Nexus. While wiping and flashing it, it ended up in a boot loop. I've tried everything to get the phone back up and running. I've tried attempting to flash different ROMs, the stock images (tried T and Q), doing a hard reset, factory reset. Literally everything under the sun that I know to do or have looked up.
Right now the most my phone will do is turn on, shows the Google screen, the reboots and repeats. Sometimes when the phone is off, I have to hold the power button for a minute or 2 to get it to turn on. Still, can only get in the bootloader, but can't get it to boot further than that.
Any help is appreciated, I'm at a loss on this one....and phoneless. :crying:
Pretty weird, if nothing works you should flash stock images, lock bootloader and RMA.

I also tried to lock the bootloader and re-unlock it, with no luck. Called Google and they weren't any help, least outside of what I've already tried. I'll be calling Huawei tomorrow when they open.
As of now, it seems when I unplug my phone, it just turns off. I plug it back in, it goes into bootloop (without me hitting power button). Sort of wondering now if the battery just took a dump?
The phone started acting funny every since I tried to Android N. I'm going to attempt to try flashing N again, just for kicks.
I found a USB charger at work. While not a fast charging one, it was enough to allow my phone to boot up. Apparently there is something wrong with the battery some how. When it booted up, it showed I still have 48% of battery left so I took it off the charger. About 5min after booting it shut down again. Now that it's on the charger again, it'll boot back up and now shows 1% of battery.
I can't figure out for the life of me what the deal is. Looking like I'll need to lock the bootloader and RMA it back for warranty and get a properly operating phone. I'm curious how quick this will happen to get a working phone? I'm up for an upgrade through Sprint, think at this point it's best to go get a new phone to use in the meantime since I have no old phones to use in the meantime. If Huawei gets me a new phone within 14 days I can take the new one back and rock on with Nexus. Kind of sucks, but just my luck.

That's exactly what you should do. Most probably the battery is dead or malfunctioning. Charge it with that spare charger for a few hours, then restore stock and lock the bootloader. Finally, turn it up for RMA.
I never had a single out-of-the-box issue with any of my 5 Nexus devices. I hope the replacement that you receive will be up to the satisfaction.

Thanks for the confidence. I'll do just as suggested and return it.
I'm up for an upgrade, although I have to do online so I don't have to pay an extra $30/month for a phone I'll sell after getting my 6P back. I hate sprint not letting me do it in the store, such a PITA. If I do online I can just get the discount and sign a 2yr contract which is fine with me. Any idea if they will ship a new phone so I'm not without a phone for week(s)?

Sorry, but I never had any experience with an international carrier like Sprint, so can't say. Someone here would be able to answer this better than me. :highfive:
Thanks for the quick reply. I'll call Huawei here in a few and start the process and find out. Fingers crossed they will ship a new phone, even with a temp hold on the money while I send this broken one back. I'll post what I find out, just in case anyone else is curious and searching for the answer.
