So I had to get my screen repaired, which they did, but in turn they ruined some other things. So when I brought it back the next day, they gave me a refurb evo. Not bad, whatever. But unfortunately, it came with 2.2 which I'd never rooted before. So I started with this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765496 but I ran into a problem and was forced to close cmd, but then I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787304 and tried it out, but now connecting my evo to the computer after the whole ADB thing doesn't bring up the menu. It simply charges, but says USB device not recognized. Did I mess something up real bad with the adb thing? Any help is greatly appreciated.. this is getting really frustrating
Now I'm not even sure if it's charging.. the light shows after I plug it in for a minute, but it says battery status: Discharging. The battery icon isn't showing it as charging though.. This is really starting to worry me. Refurb crap
I dont understand this:

If you used unrevoked why are you now trying to use adb? What menu? My shot in the dark translation is that you told it to remember your setting to charge by default.
Menu-Settings-Connect to PC- check ask me.
I first tried the old method which I posted with the complex cmd stuff and everything, it didn't work. So then I was gonna try the simpler method of HBOOT and everything, but when I connected to the computer to get rid of PC36IMG from the SD card first it won't recognize the evo. And the default is set to charge, but ask me is checked. It doesn't ask, it just lags it for a little while and then starts charging.
EDIT: Guys this is getting ridiculous! I've tried 2 different batteries and 2 different charging cables and if I can get the charging light to turn on, it just says discharging! The phone won't even read my SD card! I don't know what to do! I'm gonna take it off the cable now so it doesn't completely the discharge the battery and hopefully wakes me up when I need it to, if the battery lasts. Please guys, I need help asap I've been working on this thing for hours and I have a midterm to study for..
Double edit: I'm gonna put it on the cable.. hoping that once it discharges all the way it'll start charging? Or even if it does drain all the way it'll stay on at least.. I can't even get the charging light to turn on right now. Man, this is horrible. I'm really really worried. I just paid $110 to get this fixed, this is driving me crazy. If anyone can help, please do.
Unrevoked, then rom manager to flash a new rom = full root in 20 minutes at the most.
To do the unrevoked method, as far as I know, I have to connect to my computer and do that HBOOT crap right? Well, I can't connect to my computer. In fact, it just rained my battery last night, shut off the phone, then charged it to about 90%. Now I turned it on again, and it's just "discharging" all over again. This is ridiculous. I'm gonna go back to the Sprint store for the fourth day in a row and probably end up getting another refurb piece of crap that won't work.

My phone, which I've had since waiting in line on March 24th quit on me today. I'm not sure if it was the culprit but, I installed a program called Lookout mobile security last night 5/6. When I started the phone this morning put it on the table, got some java and when I got back nothing..no buttons working...ok..no problem tried a soft reset...nothing..ok now starting to get worried. pluged into power source..boot up screen. whew..low battery. then blank, a few seconds..boot up screen AGAIN!..by now I'm in full freakout...Attempted to calm down.. didn't work..thought ok..most everything is backed up..lets do a hard reset..didn't WANT to but anyway! Did the hard reset .. Still had the same problem...Had to pinch myself HARD to make sure this wasn't a nightmare. Went to the TMobile store and the associate put me in touch with technical support (they were Super) Going to give me a new phone but, have to wait until next Friday to get it...and then tweaking and rebuilding it to what I want...I should have been ready for this coming from an iphone...All it takes is one $%@# program again, not saying it was the one mentioned above but, one with a malicious code or something that destroyed over five weeks of building a phone from scratch. Sorry about the rant... I still LOVE this phone. .
so you couldn't even boot it in to the bootloader? wow! Maybe you should flash HardSPL before trying to install that program again as there is far less chance of bricking it if you have HardSPL installed. Even if the rom gets completely stuffed, you can still boot it and reflash from SD.
All I can recommend is install a ROM via Micro SD card and maybe doing a Task 29 before you reinstall a ROM
for US Tmobile: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614
For Leo: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
Or maybe try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668347
If those don't work then I don't know what else to recommend
They want my old phone back once I get the new one so, I'm going
to let them have it just as I turned it on yesterday. Let them
find out what the problem was created by.
I was about to install that "lookout" software...but after reading this I might as well hold on.
did you leave it on the charger overnight or did you just turn on your phone in the morning.
if you didnt have it charge all night, maybe all you needed to do was leave it on the charger a little longer before starting it back on.
i noticed that some phones with a dead battery and on the charger will sometimes not stay on until it has gotten a minimum charge on the battery.

Setting up the new phone shouldn't be a big deal if you did actually backup; just stick the old microSD in the new phone and run whatever backup app you had on the card.
I put it on the power supply and it is in the constant loop of
the first screen that appears. I am going to seriously look into
HardSPL. Thanks to all the good input from everybody.
Well now even customer service is at a loss. They cannot phantom why why two separate phones have the same problem. While I had CS on the phone we went thru various senario's to try to get the phone to operate properly. I even had them give me a new SIM card and that did not work...I suggested the problem might be the battery as it could have gone bad. You guys think the phone is playing hard to get--try to find a replacement battery! No stores within a 20 mile radius had one in stock....! Needless to say they are going to ship me yet another phone. plus a new battery and hopefully it will take care of the problem. The sales associate did a hard reset on both my old and the new phone without results so that unfortnately is not a viable solution. Now I am in the game I hate the most........The waiting one! ..

^^ what the op says above. This happened to me (and my gf as well) on our HD2s. The first time (mines) this happened, i hooked it up onto my car charger and immediately tried to turn it on.. it would go onto the TMO screen, but quickly shut down and loop. After realizing I may be trying to jump the step, I unhooked it from the charger, took the battery off, put it back on, hooked it back onto the charger and let it sit for about 10-20 minutes charging. Turned it back on and viola! It wasn't a brick.. I can almost guarantee this is your problem.
But I may be wrong lol...
So, now after 2 replacement phone sent to me, I find out that
it was the battery all along. Problem is that after the second phone
arrived and I had the same problem I called customer service and
explained it to them....They said a battery would be sent next day
air...Ok...called the next day and was told that the rep never sent
in the order...Long story short....I've almost been without my phone
for two weeks now and, all I need is a frelling battery.
Problem is there are NONE around me..I've tried every tm store in
the area, All radio shacks batteries plus...you name it....
I am being sent a battery UPS ground...could take 7 more days.
Just took the battery from my fiance's phone and it works
so, right now I would pay a ransom for a battery just to have my
phone back!
I had to do a hard reset after downloading that lookout trial.
at this point I don't know what caused it..Has anyone ever heard
of an application causing the battery to go bad?...I worked really
hard to keep the battery I had in good condition.. I hope UPS
delivers soon!
This is odd I have used Lookout Mobile on my phone since I had it. Mind you not had it for long, since April but still its never bricked or did anything that hindered the phone. I maybe another program.
Hi. I moved from a DInc on Verizon to the Vibrant because I hated the sunlight on an AMOLED, and because Verizon was stealing my money. Although honestly verizon just lowered prices, and Tmo's network is still crap in my town.
Anyways down to business: My phone is rooted, and I applied one click lag fix. I am assuming that was when problems started but then again not for sure. I've gone from stock to Vibrant5 to Vibrant6 roms, no change.
The first problem here is this: my phone always thinks it's plugged in to USB. It cycles on an off, but never just stops and stays normal. I'm talking several times a minute ''usb connected'' or whatever on, off, on, off... annoying but no big deal. Except that freaking battery meter that pops up when your phone is off but plugged in via USB starts popping up when it's not plugged in and my phone is turning on... but since there isnt really usb in, it just hangs and resets. The second I plug in a real usb, meter pops up and i just turn it on and all good.
Second problem, which makes it so bad: my phone does this things that I've seen on XDA several times where when the processor bogs down, or GPS is on, or whatever taxes the phone, it will randomly reset once or twice a day.
Put those together and what you get is me, in public away from a charger, with a phone that won't turn on. WTF. So I repeatedly take the battery out and jam the power button till once in a while I'm able to start it before the stupid usb thinks its plugged in. Other times I'm screwed till I find my car charger.
Now, what can I do? Before anyone says warranty, yes I unrooted, did my best to unlagfix, and went to the Tmo store. They ordered me a new phone. However I have to send mine in when it gets and here and would like to insure there is no root related crap for them to find, plus I'm stuck with this phone freaking out on me for another week.
I was having the same problem , but it started since.my dougther put the usb canle in her mouth xD , I just cleaned the contacts and waited a few hours but now is fine , running

If people keep messing up their phones by rooting and flashing roms and then, rather than trying to fix the problem, send them into tmobile, I bet future firmwares and android phones will be more like the iPhone and iOS.
First I would try to flash it back to stock and leave t factory. Then if problem persist, its probably hardware. I mean you are returning it anyways so flash it back to the stock rom and do a factory reset

Only had mine 3 weeks and its broken already. I have been using a desktop charger and have not been forcing it in at all, not once, I have always been very gentle inserting it it, anyway it no longer charges, it looks like the connectors have pushed themselves back so they are not flush anymore and thus no longer connecting to charge or sync.
Not happy about this at all, I had my desktop charger for my HD2 for 18 months with no problems at all, this suggest a very weak connector.
!!! BE CAREFUL !!!
Going to call in at Phones4you and see if they will swap it, I don't hold out much hope though.
Wow bad luck man, but really you don't need the F word to express your frustration.

was it an official desktop charger or 3rd party?
DO a factory reset using code *2767*3855#
(please not this will wipe everything including built in memory, so do backup before you proceed. Backup possible by moving content of internal memory to SD card by copy paste in file manager)
I had a problem when my phone stopped charging after I upgraded firmware, It would also launch Connected to computer screen when it wasnt . Thought its dead.
Did factory reset using this code and its working flawlessly ever since. Seems to be some kind of bug which happens out of nowhere as 2 people I know have experienced this after upgrading to KE2.

I was going to ask exactly the same thing...
I think the OP means that the micro usb receptacle has come away from the board and has been pushed back into the body of the phone. I hope this is not going to turn out to be a common problem as it's something that seemed plague to the Nokia N900 and it took ages for Nokia to acknowledge a design/production fault.
great advice, now it wont boot at all, just goes round in circles....
F**cked.....
anyone got any ideas?
Hi, the charger isnt really the issue, i haven't had any problems inserting the phone into the charger, ie no resistance which suggests to me it was week or loose and has gradually pushed it self back over the last 2 weeks since I have had the charger. If thats the case it would have done this with any charger or cable.
Just spoke to phones4you, they are going to exchange it for me, they didnt even grumble after I told them what happened which I thought was odd, heading off now to pick it up.
Will be interesting to see if your wifi is any better on the new phone stoolzo. Maybe you could let us know. Thanks.

remove and reinsert battery
i had this issue when running custom kernels. somehow doesnt happen with stock.
issue happens like this:
u go to bed while charging
u wake up and the phoneis off or very hot with battery and temperature warning
u reboot and it doesnt reboot, doesn't boot, just goes in circle battery display/reboot cause it doesnt seem to charge neither have enough power to boot.
removing battery + cable then putting both back = it boots again and charge normally

Yeah, did all the usual things, I have bricked phones before and always managed to turn them around but we have no CMR to flash anything from ROOT/SD so when it wouldn't boot after a factory reset I knew I was in trouble
The MHL port being loose was the tell tale sign of a fault as I hadn't misused it at all. When I compared it to my new phone I got today it was defo a little further back, just enough to prevent it connecting.
Good old phones4you, fault report to phone exchange in under an hour, impressive.
Just in case the charger had anything to do with this I am going to get rid, dont think it did but I don't want to risk it.
its this one:

Hey there. I have my Galaxy S II (GT-I9100) for about a month, and since a couple of days ago it has been behaving very weirdly about USB and charging.
First of all, the phone thinks it has USB connected at all times. When I go to the settings menu try to enable mass storage it says USB is already connected, even though it isn't!!!
Sometimes when I start the phone it goes to that USB Kies screen and says "connected", when absolutaly no cables are connected AT ALL!!!
When I turn the cell off, remove the battery and plug it back in, without turning the phone on, the recharging battery icon appears, but blinks with a drained battery icon with a yellow exclamation sign and a thermometer which I sincerely have no idea what that means.
It also takes ages to recognize the power charger or when I really connect the USB cable. And finally, when I take them off, it also takes a while to "perceive" they're off and remove the charging lightning from the battery icons.
PRETTY PLEASE, SOMEONE HELP ME OUT, as I don't have time to take the phone to service, and didn't really want to do that
Thanks!!!
This has also happened to me and loads of other SGS2 users! Although usually it only happens sporadically and not constantly. It seems that it's a bad soldering job or dust/dirt has gathered in the microUSB port. You might be able to fix it, if you're *really* careful.

Last night my phone wouldn't even start charging, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. With the smallest screwdriver I could find, I carefully 'lifted' the tiny PCB in the USB jack while blowing in at the same time. Sure enough, some sand particles fell out, and I haven't gotten carmode'd in nearly 13 hours now. Previously it would do it once every 15 minutes. So far so good, it seems.

You can't talk on plural when you only point out one thread. And I've read that, but it isn't the same as my phone doesn't go in "car mode".
My phone's problem only resembled a problem JaX3RiR briefly mentioned in the middle of the thread.

Please don't try to look like a smartass like that and embarrass yourself. If you got nothing to add to the thread, it's best if you sit out of it. It's much more appreciated when helpful people like JaX3RiR post...

There is no reason to be angry, I'm just trying to help, and just wanted that we all post in one thread, so it would be easier to track later.
I just posted longest thread. Here is another one if it helps to justify:

I'm pretty sure you have the same problem. Sometimes Vlingo starts, sometimes phone thinks its charging, when trying to boot it shows battery image and won't boot, can boot only recovery and do restart from there.
Get of the high horse when people are trying to help you.
Are you sure you didn't connect USB cable upside down or bended USB port with the cable?
I have no idea what Vlingo is, and obviously I didn't connect the USB cable upside down. I don't think I bended the port with the cable since it still recognizes the cable for charging or booting and going directly into Kies mode, for example.
I am not on any high horse when people try to help me, as you could see my response towards the guys above. Your post wasn't sounding helpful at all, you were just sounding like "hey, you dumass noobie, don't open a new thread for yourself, check the forums first".
By the way, I also took a look at that thread you posted before posting mine, but I have no idea what is "car mode" on my phone...
Sorry if I sounded rough. I thought it is similar issue, so I posted link to longer thread. I had this issue myself.
Peace. Let us know what the service say .

Hello,
Had the same problems aswell, only mine had a bunch of other problems aswell:
When I shut down my mobile it restarts itself and then shows a yellow exclamation mark with an tempgage. Only way to turn on my phone is to connect it with the charger, turn of my phone again, remove the charger and then the phone turned itself on again but without the temp gage.
My phone also thinks its charging when it is not, and when I am actually charging it, its not charging.
Also my PC does not recognize my phone so I am not able to update it.
I have also sent my phone for a repair, I will keep you guys posted.
greets from the netherlands
Yep, mine only got fixed by going into service. It got its mainboard warranty switched.
T- Mobile sent me a replacement phone
They seemed to know the symptoms when I explained what was happening
Same fault for me. Mainboard replaced, works fine now.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
How did you guys get it fixed? Did you have to ship the phone out somewhere? How long did you have to wait to get it back? What was the process?
Thanks.
Mine is going to be repaired in two weeks.
I was the 8th SGS2 since tuesday which came in the repair center.
The repair guy said it is a manifacturing fault.
The phone gets hots, and outside temperature is cold, so it makes moisture in the phone.
This cause the phones power management to get fu up (SGS2 has a small battery inside of it, and that gets fu up). Only fix is replace hardware, but 9 of 10 times Samsung gives the fault to the customer. They say it has water damage and can't be fixed in warrenty...
I'm going to write a huge article about it, and I hope it will get published by a lot of site's soon. Phones he admitted having the problem: SGS1, SGS2 and SGSN.
I charged my GS2 2x by USB and it's discharged faster than by the sector
The USB power isn't enough for charge up the GS2 correctly
Are you guys suffering from rapid battery discharging, i have all of the above symptons but my battery drains within hours...I`ve even bought a brand new battery off ebay that is exacly the same issues... I`d like to send it back to O2 but i`ve rooted and flashed custom firmware...
I'm pretty lost on this one and after hours of searching, have not the slightly clue how (or if) to fix it...if it can even be fixed.
Past few days I've noticed the phone randomly rebooting, some of the times it says my battery is 0% when it's almost full. Today I went to go wipe it and reflash Pure Nexus. While wiping and flashing it, it ended up in a boot loop. I've tried everything to get the phone back up and running. I've tried attempting to flash different ROMs, the stock images (tried T and Q), doing a hard reset, factory reset. Literally everything under the sun that I know to do or have looked up.
Right now the most my phone will do is turn on, shows the Google screen, the reboots and repeats. Sometimes when the phone is off, I have to hold the power button for a minute or 2 to get it to turn on. Still, can only get in the bootloader, but can't get it to boot further than that.
Any help is appreciated, I'm at a loss on this one....and phoneless. :crying:
Pretty weird, if nothing works you should flash stock images, lock bootloader and RMA.

I also tried to lock the bootloader and re-unlock it, with no luck. Called Google and they weren't any help, least outside of what I've already tried. I'll be calling Huawei tomorrow when they open.
As of now, it seems when I unplug my phone, it just turns off. I plug it back in, it goes into bootloop (without me hitting power button). Sort of wondering now if the battery just took a dump?
The phone started acting funny every since I tried to Android N. I'm going to attempt to try flashing N again, just for kicks.
I found a USB charger at work. While not a fast charging one, it was enough to allow my phone to boot up. Apparently there is something wrong with the battery some how. When it booted up, it showed I still have 48% of battery left so I took it off the charger. About 5min after booting it shut down again. Now that it's on the charger again, it'll boot back up and now shows 1% of battery.
I can't figure out for the life of me what the deal is. Looking like I'll need to lock the bootloader and RMA it back for warranty and get a properly operating phone. I'm curious how quick this will happen to get a working phone? I'm up for an upgrade through Sprint, think at this point it's best to go get a new phone to use in the meantime since I have no old phones to use in the meantime. If Huawei gets me a new phone within 14 days I can take the new one back and rock on with Nexus. Kind of sucks, but just my luck.

That's exactly what you should do. Most probably the battery is dead or malfunctioning. Charge it with that spare charger for a few hours, then restore stock and lock the bootloader. Finally, turn it up for RMA.
I never had a single out-of-the-box issue with any of my 5 Nexus devices. I hope the replacement that you receive will be up to the satisfaction.

Thanks for the confidence. I'll do just as suggested and return it.
I'm up for an upgrade, although I have to do online so I don't have to pay an extra $30/month for a phone I'll sell after getting my 6P back. I hate sprint not letting me do it in the store, such a PITA. If I do online I can just get the discount and sign a 2yr contract which is fine with me. Any idea if they will ship a new phone so I'm not without a phone for week(s)?

I hate sprint not letting me do it in the store, such a PITA. If I do online I can just get the discount and sign a 2yr contract which is fine with me. Any idea if they will ship a new phone so I'm not without a phone for week(s)?

Sorry, but I never had any experience with an international carrier like Sprint, so can't say. Someone here would be able to answer this better than me. :highfive:
Thanks for the quick reply. I'll call Huawei here in a few and start the process and find out. Fingers crossed they will ship a new phone, even with a temp hold on the money while I send this broken one back. I'll post what I find out, just in case anyone else is curious and searching for the answer.
