I've purchased and installed the TomTom 6 navigation software with some specific maps but am having a problem with getting a bluetooth GPS device to properly partner up with the device and software. When I ask the 8525 to establish a 'new partnership' it finds the BT-GPS-359 GPS receiver, but when I go to 'partnership settings' I only get a selection of 'Serial Port' for 'services to use from this device'. I would assume here that I would get the TomTom software option to choose. When I open the TomTom software and ask to configure the GPS receiver it isn't properly being located. Is there some specific settings I need to use with Com Ports? Any suggestions to get these devices working together would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Create an outgoing com port assigned port 2 and try to find it using TT6. That is what I did with my BT-338

Thanks...that did the trick. So now when I want to use the Navigation software do I just turn on the GPS receiver and start the TomTom software and it will automatically 'partner' for navigation purposes?
Yep, that is it.
You can even minimize it and place a call... it doesn't miss a beat! I'm definitely impressed with it!
...then you can maximize it using the red icon in bottom tray and continue the call.
I have to admit that after getting the partnership working and using the 8525 as a GPS navigator...I am really impressed. I've never used GPS navigation so don't have much to compare it to, but with the 8525 displayed in a mount on the dash and the tomtom software working I have found it very accurate today in getting me to my destination (and gee....I even have multiple choices for the voice I want to hear!!)

ROM v1.35 will freeze randomly for lots of different apps, usually when they are first loaded. It looks like AKU 3.3 has fixed this problem, so hopefully we won't be seeing these random freezes any more.

Thanks - now I know which car cradle to get.
I just wish I could find a way to mute driving directions for places I go every day and just get a "CONGESTION AHEAD" from TT Traffic.
Hi there,

Yes but the display won't go into landscape (side ways) it'll stay in the normal display but as soon as you press a key on the keyboard the TT6 on screen keyboard will pop up which is big enough to use your fingers.
Thanks
Hi rgreenpc,
Mnay thanks, that seems to do the trick.

can somebody compare the speed difference between tt6 and tt5.21.
my tt5.21 need sooo long to start up (45 sec!!). Is tt6 quicker?
Someone found a trick to use the old tt5 maps?
As indicated in other posts on this site, I found that TT6 slows up and sometimes freezes when Points of Interest (POIs) are used. In the UK we have lots of speed cameras and setting these on certainly causes TT6 to freeze on my MDA Vario II (HTC TyTn). After turning off all POIs I just completed a trip with no freezes and the display was far smoother - with the POIs on it was jerking and lagged behind current position.
I have the Holux GPSSlim 240 BT receiver and found it impossible to get it to work reliably with TT6 unless I stopped WM5 from managing the GPS receiver. After unticking "Manage GPS automatically ..." all works well with TT6 and this receiver. Interestingly I cannot get it to work with Google Map (for PPC) without having WM5 manage the GPS receiver!
On my device TT6 start-up performance (without any route set) is:
- Display of normal route screen - 8-15 secs
- BT then turns on within - 20 secs
- TT6 sees GPS receiver - 25-35 secs
- TT6 displays GPS info - 27-37 secs
(all time elapsed from TT6 start) Before I removed the tick for WM5 control of GPS data it took up to 5 mins for TT6 to see the GPS receiver, and sometimes TT6 never saw the GPS receiver at all - even though it was working and Google map was able to see it every time.
I have not applied the 6.01 upgeade yet - are there any improvements? Have others found this issue with WM5 mangement and is it fixed with the upgrade?
Hope this is of help to some.

Hi, Xman -- I don't know this software and so probably can't really offer anything helpful. For what it's worth, the GPS seems to work fine on my P6500: both with Google Maps and with GPS-enabled photos on the HTC Camera app. Does your GPS work with those programs?
Sorry about your troubles!
Alan
I didn't try with Google maps because I'm interested in making Igo work .
At list tell me an app which can show me some info about the internal gps such as speed /the com port on which it's installed etc..
Thanks
Problem solved!!!!!!!
Solution? GPS Gate
I have also noticed the same problem running both IGO-2006 and I-GO 2008 on my 6500,on the other hand i have had no trouble whatsoever running Destinator 7 and Garmin ,i guess it's got something to do with the software and not the PPC itself which i must say has a very good GPS receiver.
Edit
Thanks for the GPS-gate idea.

Hey Xman556,
it is a crack one at the moment untill I can get it to work properly then I'll buy it if not I'll just leave it.
The way I can get it to work is like this I start the iGo8 then I go to settings TMC and dp a search if return as no hardware fined then I go to GPS and put in the com port 4 and the speed 57800 and it work but if I do a soft rest the iGo8 well not work anymore until I change the GPS port in the PDA to a diffrent port like port 8 then the Igo8 well star and I have to do everything I did before go to TMC and so on if I try to go straight to the GPS without going to the TMC the system hang and I have to do a soft rest this is the way I got it working I'm using the version 4.1.506 if the Igo I tried the earlier version and it is the same problem I need a solution better than this.
Thank You
Gigino
As far as I see the problem is that the cracked Igo is not able to start the internal gps.
Here my new solution..this time is really working !!!
GPS TEST from chartcross...i start this program .it starts the gps then menu/minimize and after i start the igo.
Tell me if it works for u.

I had this problem with I-go at first. When first installed selecting the gps port and or baud rate would lock the phone. Also if you did an auto detect it would also lock the phone. Solution, have gpsdash or google navigator running with the gps enabled (or anything else that works with the internal gps it seems). Without stopping the app start I-go and it will find and use the gps quite nicely.
Once it has done this the first time I never had to run anything else before I-go even after a reset. Tried this several times by fully reseting the 6500 and worked every time.
similar GPS problems with HTC P6500 and iGo
Hi all,
I'm writing from Germany and have similar problems with iGo 2006+ and iGo 8.
(I purchased iGo 8 just yesterday)
My (German) settings:
Settings --> System --> External GPS -->
Tab Program?:
COM4 for internal GPS, no external GPS via Bluetooth (see Attachment)
Tab Access?:
manage GPS automaticly: ON
What are your GPS settings?
- - -
What I have discovered:
- 1st starting iGo 2006+ and iGo8: both applications hang during 'starting'
- With Igo 2006+ I tried: 1st starting the app 'GPS Tuner', then starting iGo
--> It starts and iGo finds GPS on Com4 with maximum baud
(now I don' t have any longer 'GPS Tuner')
- With iGo8 I tried starting the freeware 'VisualGPSce' 1st (until GPS fix), then starting iGo8 --> It starts, I could set COM4, maximum baud...
--> so I think, is is an internal iGo/GPS-problem
- Today I could drive about 10 km with Igo8, then it crashes without any msg
You can see, I have similar probs, did u solve the probs meanwhile?

Rainer from Germany
cracked igo works fine on Sedna. from SD or InternalFlash.
I´m using GPSGATE.
Start GPSGATE, best automatically after reboot.
this will start the internal GPS.
Now you have 2 possibilities.
1. use the output port of GPSGATE, maybe Virtual Com1. You can select it in the options from GPSGATE
or
2. use Com4 from internal GPS. once startet from GPSGATE, it works.
you have to edit your sys.txt in folder programs....igo8
[gps]
port="1" or "4"
baud="38400"
it works definitly

Latest news
After trying all kinds of programs(GPS port spliter, gps gate and gps test) I found that the solution with gpstest is the best.So I decided to perform a hard reset in order to install on my device only the useful software. But after the hard reset the gps would not start no matter what programs I installed. So I sent the device to HTC and they replaced the mainboard.
Now the IGO8 works perfect(together with GPSTEST-pls see my earlier posts).
GPS Text script
I too found GPSTest.exe useful because its really small.
Strange that iGo hangs when trying to communicate over the port *unless* you start another program and open up the GPS unit's port.
Sounds a lot like PPC/iGo GPS management issue.
Be that as it may, I created a script with MortScript, and then put this shortcut under my programs in "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" on my PPC (I'm running WM 6.1 if you care).
The following script opens GPSTest.exe, launches iGo, then closes GPSText.exe after iGo shuts down;
iGoLaunch.mscr:
Code:
#OPEN GpsText.exe minimized
Run ("\Storage Card\Program Files\Chartcross\GPSTest\Bin\GPSTest.exe")
WaitForActive ("GPS Test", 5000)
Minimize ("GPS Test")
#Run (and wait until iGo closes)
RunWait ("\Program Files\iGO8\iGO8.exe")
#Close GpsText.exe
Kill ("\Storage Card\Program Files\Chartcross\GPSTest\Bin\GPSTest.exe")
After creating iGoLaunch.mscr, put this link (use notepad) into "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"
iGo 8 GPS.lnk:
Code:
1#"\Storage Card\iGo8\iGoLaunch.mscr"?\Program Files\iGO8\iGO8.exe, -101
Please note: If you decide to use this script and shortcut, I highly suggest you check the paths/filenames for accuracy.
GPS and WM 6.1 upgrade
Hey guys -- this may well not be relevant to the issues you're dealing with -- I don't use iGo -- but there is a HUGE improvement in GPS reception with the Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade. My Sedna used to have a very difficult time getting GPS reception: it often could not find a signal despite repeated attempts. But since the upgrade, it's been locking on quickly and consistently.
Thought I'd pass this on in case it's helpful.
Alan
very simple script
once the GPS is initialized for the first time it will work
I've wrote a script for MortScript. The only code is:
WriteFile( "COM4:",x )
This script only sends something (here x) to COM4.
Then COM4 is used for the first time and will keep on working.
I start this script in autostart.
That's all.
Please regard uppercase and colons when writing "COM4:"

Solution for port splitter
You can use port splitter for your gps. here is the process i went through with my HTC (jade). first i used gps gate and figured out that the internal gps is using com4. since gpsgate is not free and had to stop using it I tried port splitter
simply install port splitter on your pda
under INPUT-> PORT: com4 and Baud: 4800 (you might have to type COM4 yourself)
under OUTPUT-> select com1 on the drop down menu and press ADD
then press Start Splitter
and it should work
if not install gpsgate and figure out what port it is using and than use port splitter.
This should save you some money

Hi all,
I'm an htc newbie, because i've just bought an used p3600 (Trinity s300+).
I've a problem with gps, i've installed tom tom 7 and gps test 1.0.4 for pocket pc, but either program don't recognize the built-in gps.
this is my actual configuration:
O.S.
ROM: Kamba_a v10.1
RADIO Version: 1.16.00
External GPS Settings:
Programs: port GPD1
Hardware: port COM9 Baud rate: 57600
I don't know if the problem depends on my configuration or on a broken gps!
Is there a method to know the cause of the problem?
Thanks in advance
In TomTom 7, you need to use "Other NMEA GPS receiver" instead of "Built-in GPS receiver", then select 57600 baud and Com 9.
I would assume your other program would need Com9 and 57600?
Actually, I just re-read your post and noticed your radio version. That seems strange for a Trinity. Maybe it's something I don't know, but it could be your radio needs to be upgraded.
For instance, the radios that I'm familiar with are numbered:
1.38.00.11
1.46.00.11
1.46.30.11
1.50.08.11
1.56.70.11
Possibly, they are different in Italy?
It's quite possible, given that it is a second hand purchase, that the Trinity in question has one of the early Radios, that didn't have the GPS enabled. I know mine initially didn't, it needed an upgrade. At the time i just upgraded it direct from HTC to the latest WM5 ROM. Link to MegaUpload
Thanks for your repsonse!
I'm in Italy, but the phone was born in France . Is an used SFR s300+.
Originally it had a WM5 rom with gps enabled, now it has th WM6 Kamba_a v10.1 rom!
It is possible to upgrade only the radio rom, with one of those suggest by
SuperSport?

Thanks to all!
I've just updated the radio rom, i've used the 1.56.70.11 version!

Now i've a last question, How can improve the time of first gps connection?
which is the best software that doesn't use a-gps?
there are many opinions about that. read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=463898
clear skies, don't move
Hi gaivao.
Welcome aboard. From over 3 years experience, what makes GPS fix to be the fastest is just what the header says. Turn your GPS application and try to acquire signal away from buildings. Being stationary helps too. It can take few minutes the first time after soft reset, but then drops to 30-40 seconds (at least on the part of the world i am at.
All programs like Quick-GPS are , IMO , not changing much, if ever. It's hard to tell because the test conditions to get a real answer are not ideal to really put the application only under test.
Two major comments: 1- have your phone run on external power when you use GPS. battery lasts hardly 3 hours with GPS on. 2- the less soft resets you do, the more likely you get quick fix every time you need it.
I use the GPS every day, and I do carry a spare battery for the times I forget to disconnect the GPS and leave the car. I have been once away from external source, and my battery died because of the GPS, and all my schedule for that day was on my phone (customers, phone numbers, to do list, etc.). Was pretty ugly..
Enjoy the phone- it is a good purchase for the next year or so.

I suggest you to change the Program Port from GPD1 to COM4: because most applications don't use a such port. After that, you can configure your favorite Navigatin software to the selected Port. The Advantage: you can run multiple Application with simultaneously access to the GPS device through the Program Port.

I would say you gps is not working cos your radio is not up to date I tried it with 1.16 and it would not work for me, I put on radio 1.46 and it worked fine on internal gps with tomtom 6 and other gps on tomtom 7
