Hello to you all!
My problem began when I accidently dropped my Magician from a height of about 4 feet. Now it is having somekind of alignment problem. I cannot figure out the actual problem. No Matter where I click on the screen, it takes action on the extreme left side of the screen, for example if i click on the sound icon, it opens the start menu.
By any chance if anyone of you have experienced similar problem and got a solution, please be kind to share it with me. Experts I really need your help, in my country this thing cannot be repaired or replaced as no I-mate service is available. I'm on this forum with great hopes.
God Bless you all.

Never heard of this before, but did you try a hard-reset ? seems to me that might be your only chance....
yess! hard resetted a couple of times now I cannot even pass through the screen alignment window that asks to tap on 5 different locations.
it definitely needs repair..you can try contacting www.expansys.com but you'll have to ship the item off to them for repair
Thank You O2Mini_Noob for your kind reply.
This Jam wasn't even bought from Expansys. But I'll still try asking them. In the mean time, can you people tell me if I can try repairing it myself? I'm quite familiar with the electronic devices.
I have had this same problem with an old ipaq 3760. Sometimes it would align after calibration but always went back to way off. After hard reset the only way to proceed was pressing the navigation button because the screen was so far off. I had acciedntally thrown it about 4 metres when it slid out of its case. It did not stop working then, but six months later I dropped it about 20cm on its edge and it went.
I took it in for repairs (I had paid an extra $200 for more waranty) and nobody could find the fault. In the end they told me it was repaired but the one I got back was new with a different serial number.
I do not think there is a solution to your problem. Once the screen goes its not worth fixing. I have a friend with a similar problem on a toshiba. It now registers a random screen tap every 2 -3 seconds making it uselless.
Sorry, I know its a really nice phone.
Expansys use PocketPCTechs as their PDA upgrade/repair centre which is the best repair centre for any PDAs. I guess to repair the O2 mini yourself, you must at least have a service manual. Try this link

Hello everyone
This is my first post, i usually browse these forums to pick knowledge but im in an hour of need please
I have the orange M5000, (universal or xda exec)
Everything works as it rings when you dial its number, button presses are acknowledged, even screen taps give you beeps!
but neither the screen lights up andneither does it show anything.
is there something i can do please? i must be pressing a button wrong or something!
tried resets etc.
Please could someone help
many thanks
"G"
when you take the battery out and then put it back in and press the power button does the screen show anything?
If not back to the store me thinks.
Anyone else?
JAmes
Hello,
the connector between the screen and mainboard sounds like it is either loose or frayed ( it is a collection of wires and not a ribbon.)
I would contact www.htceurope.com and arrange a repair as the unit should still be under warranty unless it's been noticebly dropped.
Richard
james, i tried the resets also taking the battery out, sadly the problem persisted after this too
richard thanks so much for putting that website forward as i didnt even know it existed
the orange shop i got it from i would never ever visit again, terrible service and nil knowledge.
i have gone through the process on htc's website and will send it for repair tomorrow
thanks so much again!
has anyone else sent anything to htc for warranty work before?
many thanks
"G"
someone just also informed me that the screen is not designed to be turned 360 degrees but only 180 degrees, maybe this is what did it? whatif i turned it around to close it instead ofturning it back the way it came.
oh well, i have printed a tick sheet so willdispatch it tomorrow
thanks so much again for your help.#
G
I recon you wouldnt have noticed you were doing bad if you turned it through the not turnable part.
hope the repair gets it sorted for you
JAmes
thanks james!
me too! i could always walk into another orange shop but theyre only going to probably send it to htc for repair anyway so why not go straight!
thanks all

If you plug the unit in to power, is the screen still dark? Did you do a hard reset? If not, do so. You don't have much to lose. If one presses the backlight button and power buttons in a certain sequence, the backlight slider goes to '0' and the screen will appear to be black. If you look at it under strong light you will see that you can make out the icons etc. on the screen. If this is the case, go to settings and backlight and move the sliders up. If you have hard reset the device then this is all moot.

Surprisingly enough it is easily done...I have a jasjar that doesn't stop if you try to rotate it further than 180. They have re-designed the hinge / twist bracket with more pronounced ridges on the XDA exec I had in bits to stop this. If in doubt, deny all knowledge, if you've been able to do that without noticing, it's a design flaw IMO.
HTCEurope are actually very good for repairs, you can log in and see the progress of your repair on their site, and compared to some of the other official service agents ( SBE / imate ) they are also reasonably priced if your units is not covered byt warranty eg if you smashed the screen.
Don't ever bother sending a phone back via orange unless it's accidental damage and you have orangecare - they just send it on to HTC so you're only delaying it. The only downside is you have to pay for the postage to send it to them. An upside of using HTC directly though is you can pay for a cosmetic refurb if needed at the same time.
Richard
You are welcome, but sorry you were not able to find a solution. Can you actually turn your screen through 360 degrees? There are mechanical stops to prevent this, but they can of course be broken by force. One turn would probably not damage the wire inside, as I have seen it. More than once however, and you have no doubt broken the connection. Since the screen still beeps, it sounds like the main connection to the lcd is gone. Even with the backlight for the lcd screen completely disconnected the lcd will still show charaters under strong light. Have you actually done a 'hard' reset? This is the one where you hold the two soft keys (with the '-' on them) at the same time you press the reset button on the back of the unit. If you see nothing after this, you definitely need to send it in for repair.
richard thanks will remember to always use htc directly in future too. hopefully they wont charge me for the work, but if they do its probably my own fault, just wish i knew how i broke it lol
chetccox, i understand now how the cable mustve broken inside. this is because i can easily turn the screen through no problem, even in the manual there is no mention of this, there is even NO ADVICE ON HOW TO OPEN OR CLOSE THE SCREEN!
thanks for your input, i tried the hard rest too, nthing on the screen again! oh well, very unfortunate, was really looking forward to this!
i think ill sell this on and get something like the xda3 again. i had a mini s before i gave that to my cousin for his birthday. i never got on with it, too slow for me, im not educated enough to change roms etc etc etc
thanks all

Hi Guys
Have been checking the HTC wesbite frantically since last week to see how my pda is getting on with its warranty repair and this is the status it shows.
Timestamp Status
22/02/2006 08:59:36 RECEIVED
01/03/2006 09:00:27 ON-HOLD
what does it mean when it says on-hold?
this is the status of my Xda Exec (SPV M5000 actually) what does that mean please? can anyone help
Many thanks
G
Well, here is what ON-HOLD means!
Is it worth arguing or shall i just pay it and cut my losses? Not once does it say this in the manual anywhere!
Please let me know what you guys think.
Thanks again
G

Dear Mr Sood,
Thank you for returning your phone to us.
Unfortunately our technicians have found that the screen has been turned through more than 180 degrees damaging the co-axial cable. As accidental damage is not covered by the warranty this will be a chargeable repair at a cost of £77.40 inclusive of vat and delivery. This may be paid by credit/debit card at our website, www.htceurope.com, using your case number and password. Please let me know if you can’t find either of these.
Payment may also be made by cheque or postal order made payable to HTC Europe Co Ltd, and sent to:

Thank you.

Theres a box online where i can choose to disagree. DO you think i stand anywhere? i dont mind paying it but when i bought the phone i cooldnt feel anything stopping the screen
Cheers

i wouldnt pay the monies... i would argue its a design fault.. search the internet for othe rpeple with same problem.
also point out that nowhere in the documents does it warn you about 360 rotations.

While it's a shame they are not fixing it under warranty, the quote is reasonable IMO as you can't buy the cable for love nor money, and I've changed one, it's fiddly and took me at least an hour. £25 for the part and 1 hour's labour is fairy snuff, I'd pay it no question if it were me.

You could try - it's not like they'll put the price up for you querying it?
There *are* others who have had the same problem as well.

I dunno about your phone but my QTEK 9000 had a sticker on the screen when it was fresh out of the box. This sticker did state that you cannot turn it more than 180º. Maybe it's just QTEK that took the time to put this sticker.
Hi! Such problem with phone. It is switched off at playing mp3, at photographing and entering calls, fireware 12. what to do?
Your battery must be defective.
Thank you!
Thanks! I and thought, there was no time to check up! There Is other problem. Can you will help! After disassembly of phone the screen has ceased to work! Suspicion on a socket where you connect the screen. It has a black thing which is inserted into contacts, it has broken, some contacts were bent. Whether probably it to restore, and whether it is possible to buy this thing?
I don't know where one could buy spare parts. It's either you send your device for repair or get in touch with an electronics expert to try to help you out.
I have solved a problem if knew where is on sale spare details, but such information I do not know.
not working s100
i had the same problem from the magician the black thing seems to hold the screen ribbon in.
i emaled t-mobile and the gave me the following info
For accessories and parts for MDAs, please contact the manufacturer on 01908556464. They're open 09:00 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 17:30 Monday to Friday. If the line is busy, you can leave a message and your call will be returned within 24 hours.
I hope this helps
please tell me how you got on as i have had to switch to a normal samsung d600 phone which is vastly inferior to the mda
mot working magician
just an update:
i have now started proceedings to fix my magician. i have emailed [email protected] for the address to send my phone to. i have been told its £53 minimum for my problem (broken black thing on screen ribbon) and if i want my facia replaced its a further £33. i may take up the offer of a new facia. as mine got damaged. will post the results. (this repair service is only uk. for your own country please see htc.com.)
I hope someone can help...
In the process of replacing my LCD, i damaged the main ribbon cable (it has a small tear). Does anyone have one to sell or know where i could buy a new one??
thanks
Dean
Try here... http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=CS
and here... https://www.cellulardr.com/proddetail.php?prod=Cingular8525LCD&cat=125
It's amazing what that Google thing can do.
thanks for your reply - google is indeed a marvelous tool. Unfortunately, I've had no problems locating a replacement LCD, its the ribbon cable which i need - the one which connects the LCD through the sliding keyboard, also accommodating the camera and ear piece.
now, if you could pull that one from google, you've got a friend for life....
thanks
dean
Try it there:
http://www.diytrade.com/directory/g...bbon_for_Dopod_838_Imate_K-jam_O2_Mini_S.html
However, the one in the link is for the sister model. I was going to contact this firm to see it they have it for our Hermes too, but I'm waiting to see if I really need one - maybe later...
If you're successfull in finding one either at the above firm or elsewhere let us know!
Thank you / You're well come !!!
thanks microft - I sent an email to the company requesting a flex ribbon for the Hermes, I'll keep you posted on the outcome. I also found this mob:
http://www.factory2customer.com/index.php/cat/Home/cat_id/33218
The have all the parts but they appear to be only a wholesale operation. I'm also waiting to hear back from them.....
Anyone else got any leads???
It appears i'm caught by the boo-boo's. The only company authorized to stock the ribbon cable in Australia are Mobile Phone Solutions, who won't supply the item, just repair for quite a tidy sum. They also have quite a long waiting list.....
Is there anybody out there who can sell me one?
please...
Hi,
anyone had such problem? Service visit required? It's unlikely I've pressed it too hard also never got wet.
Thanks for any advise.

Someone has had this in the past, its a "send it back for repair" situation I think.
you can try using those sucker to suck the part out.... also try to pess the corners of the screen and this should be able to solve the problem.. the problem is the glass of the screen sticking onto the capacitator that detects our finger touch
detion
pressing helps but only for a sec, after letting go it comes bach, what about sucking out, any details how to do it?
You can try putting it in an airing cupboard for a few days, see if that'll dry it out, probrably better to go for the return option, least you know it'll get fixed properly.
thanks Guys, I'll try drying, if not service visit...
A friend of mine has the same problem, as some other guys too. There is also a thread - in German language - at 'PocketPC.ch' about this problem.
The dot sometimes even disappears! A few hours later it is back, really strange. He already send it to repair but it came back unrepaired. Maybe at that point of time it was not visible. After contacting the service once again asking if this could be a general hardware problem he was told "Yes it could be a general hardware problem of the HD2." And what is more HTC has some problems to get enough spare parts (display ?) for repair. Some users at 'PocketPC.ch' reported that their device has been for weeks (5 or 6 weeks) at the repair center because HTC could not deliver the spare parts.
Let's see how it goes on.
Best regards
These are very helping information, I'll try drying option than rather going to service which 20 km away via terrible jams

Have a look at this thread....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=613631&highlight=screen+spot
It's been a problem for some people before and been fixed without sending their phone away. I think you need good suction
to johncmolyneux
suction you say I'd appriciate any details on that...
I've read the thread, coclusion is simple if it doesn't dissapear after max few days BY ITSELF, repair it! there are few lucky people who got it dissapear after suction, heating and so on... mine stays on the screen for few months now. Indeed after leaving it on a sunny day, the dot got signifficantly smaller.
hair dryer
hair dryer helps onlu for 30 minutes, maybe it should run for 12 or 24 hours?
