NEED HELP MDA GOING CRAZY(willing to pay) - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

My MDA IS GOING CRAZY!! Every time I press the power button to take the phone off of the standby mode the phone seems to randomly just open up contacts and then try to delete one of the ones that are first on the list. Also the two soft buttons aren't working. the keyboard, some of the letters aren't working either, and every time i press the left softkey on the keyboard the menu on the right always opens up when I am on the internet. For some reason it just started acting like that when I increased the size of the cache. This one time all the keys worked for like 5 minutes the other day, then they went back to not working. I already did a virus scan and nothing came up, so yea. I am willing to pay if needed to the person through paypal, whoever helps me fix up my mda. NEED HELP!!!!

Have you tried updating to a newer firmware?

Are there any magnets in the immediate vicinity of the MDA?
I know it sounds crazy but even the magnet on the included t-mobile case can do things like switch the screen to landscape or bring up the calender.
It's just a thought and a possibility.

nope no magnets, and the rom is the 2.6 one, the newest rom, dunno what wrong with the phone, im willing to pay to fix it up. whoever helps me fix it up, i will pay them.

if i were you, (thankfully i'm not because i have had enough problems with my XDA!! lol) i'd do a hard reset, but i'll assume you can't do that because of the mind of its own issue, so power down the phone, and leave it on charge so there's atleast 50% battery in the phone. meanwhile, goto the t-mobile website and get the latest rom (or re downlownload the rom that's already installed...2.6 i think u said?) and try to upgrade using bootloader. todo this, hold the camera and the power buttons until a funny screen comes up, run the update utility, and then plug in the phone to the firewire cable (then onto the usb) on the first screen of the program (if that makes sense). then run the update utility and that should work.
there's no reason why it shouldn't. i had a similar problem with a se w800i about a year ago, and it turned out a button was stuck down, so check that.
i hope you get it sorted, as i kno how frustrating these phones can be.

Ok, you need to give more info. What IPL/SPL, Radio, version, etc. etc. What other steps did you follow? Downgrade to 1.08 unlock? CID unlock? Upgrade to 2.26? Then flash whatever ROM you are using...and which ROM is it? What other apps have you loaded? How old is the phone? Who is your service provider? What is your bank account number? (ok maybe we don't need that one haha) What SD card are you using? Have you dropped the phone?
--M

uuh, i haven't dropped the phone at all. Its unlocked, and I changed the network settings so that I get unlimited internet and other data transfers for free. I have Tmobile prepaid. Other than that I am going to try to hardware reset it, tried it already, it didn't work. So, I will try to update the rom, the phone is unlocked, so if I update the rom hopefully it wont become locked again.

It won't become locked again, it sounds like a hardware problem it is most likely a button or key on the keyboard is getting stuck and/or shorting every so often causing this behaviour.

Have you recently loaded any apps? Maybe changed the key settings? Deleted a file by mistake?
How large did you make the cache? What program did you use to change the cache? Did you change anything else besides the cache?

uuh i made the cache to 4 MB and I did change the settings for the IE but I changed them back, I used Resco Registry Editor, also I went to this website to find the registry tweaks http://www.pocketpctweaks.com/pocketpc_tweaks/
Then I went to the 2 performace tweaks:
http://www.pocketpctweaks.com/pocketpc_tweaks/speed_up_your_pocketpc
http://www.pocketpctweaks.com/pocketpc_tweaks/increase_performance_speed
I also did this one on the IE using Resco Registry Editor:
http://www.pocketpctweaks.com/pocketpc_tweaks/change_pocket_internet_explorer_6
Other than that I haven't done any other ones, I tried overclocking by using a software called Omap Clock, but that software sucked, it would be overclocked for a while, and it would return back to the default speed whenever I would press the power button to put it on standby.

if i were you..
if you are willing to pay for those who ever fix you phone, i'd rather pay my nearest service center to fix my device.

Help: I done a master reset on cingular 8125 now it stuck on Start Screen

Hi, i just done a master reset on my cingular 8125, and now i can't do anything to the phone. everytime i put the battery in it can only go to the first screen. which is the screen with IPL, SPl, GSM, and OS.
Does anyone have a solution? I have this phone for over 6 months, I done an unlock to use with T-mobile, but i didn't do the unlock to update.
same thing is happening to me.
download the t-mobile 2.26.10.2 rom from their site and force bootloader mode [turn off, hold power and camera, and connect to USB and run the updater.
when i do this, it doesnt write the ROM image...
i have flashed like... 7 times in the past hour...
Don't know if this will help you, but the same thing happened on my 8125 after pasting a "power off" program to my windows/start up folder. Hold the Comm and Voice record buttons (on top sides of device), and at the same time use your stylus to soft reset (small hole below Ir port), a message should come up telling you to send to set back to factory settings. Push the green phone button to send. This is like a hard rest without entering the hard rest code 1234. This should get the device operating normal again. You will have to re-install apps that you had in the main memory, since your device will be new again. Give this a try. May I ask why you had to do a hard reset?

That means there is a hardware issue with the phone.
took it to cingular they said software
Meaning -- not covered under their warranty exchange?? Just curious as to whether you got a replacement phone. . .

You may need to do this a few times. It should work as it's the ONLY way.

If they say its software, then tell them to flash the Cingular ROM on it. If it works, thank them and you have a working phone. If it doesn't they should replace it. DO a search for this error here (and with Google) but I seem to recall others getting this found their phone had a memory (hardware) problem where the flash just won't take.
You might have better luck talking to a Cingular Tech online. I've called a copule of times with issues with my phone and they are always like "We'll authorize a replacement and send it out tomorrow". I've stopped them each time as I know the isue I'm calling about isn't hardware (one time it was for the 160x120 MMS pics). Over the phone they can only debug so far so they are quicker to do a replacement.
Not sure thats what you want to do, but its an option...
You might also try flashing the Wizard Love or Button Roms on it. Those will sometimes flash when others won't (if you do the Button ROM you will have to CID unlock again though) (we are talking a G3 here, right?)

i may smash my tytn!

man! this 'cking device is doing my head in! I think it's the worst I had! my list of gripes are:
1) the 3g (umts) connection sucks balls! drops after about 5 minutes! ony way to fix it is a soft reset (see below)
2) if I do a soft reset, any sms or pushed email disappear!
3) after using some website forms, the pull out keyboard is on caps lock constantly meaning I have to soft reset (resulting in lost messages as above).
4) no matter what settings I use (backlight and power) the device is constantly powered on, even after specified time for backlight and power off.
I'm sure there's more but can't think of them at the moment!
anyone else getting the same trouble as me? if so, what did you do to fix it?

Sound like you need to look at what you have loaded closer. Do a hard reset and figure out what radio and Rom versions you have loaded. Then someone may be able to help you because your problems are not normal.
lol. sell it to me for $20. glad to take it off ya hands.

"Don't know what build etc but it works"
I beg to differ - it obviously dosen't work.
I would suggest calming down and doing some ligical trouble shooting. These issues are specific to you so it is obviously not the device (don't blame it). You have given no info on your setup so don't expect too much help.
Ditch any cooked rom you might be using and go back to std manufacturers rom. A hard reset fixes most things - then install only necessary apps, one by one and checking that things are still OK. Cooked roms are only for those who are good at/have the time to/inclination to, trouble shoot.
Caps lock is probably related to the way you use the Shift and Function keys. Experiment with double cliking those keys - it can be confusing but there is a logic to it. Experiment and you will work it out.
ok...
rom version: 1.18.255.3
rom date: 22/07/06
radio version: 1.03.03.10
protocol version: 32.34.7010.01h
It's completely standard (didn't have the balls to try upgrading the rom). I've hard resetted a billion times. experimented with no apps installed and still the same kind of things happen.
apps i usually install are:
skype
spb backup
spb insight
tom tom 6
pieplus
lingvosoft japanese dictionary
lingvosoft japanese phrasebook
So not alot installed (and all on sd card, so plenty of room on the device).
Hope this gives some clues!!
Cheers guys

I'm making some assumptions...
1) This could be your area, but might be worth looking at your Radio ROM?
2) Don't use the reset button at the bottom of your device. Hermes uses some caching and if you hit the reset button it doesn't get time to flush. What you need to do is hold the power button on the side for awhile until it asks if you are sure you want to completely turn off your device, which of course you do. Once it's powered off (it takes a little while sometimes while it saves everything) you can press the button if you like then power on again.
3) On the slide out keyboard, hit the round circle button on the very button left of the keyboard, then press the caps button above it.
4) Do you mean the screen is lit up (the backlight) all the time? Or that the backlight goes out but you can still faintly see the today screen? The Hermes is always meant to be on, just like any other phone, or how else would you be able to get a call?

HD2 frozen on boot

I have just got the HD2 and been using it for a few weeks. Downloaded a few apps (eg HTC rom, BSB tweeks) and all is good. Saw Max Manila and looked like a great idea - checked my manila version 2.5.19211619.0 and downloaded 2.7 SE (checked it's right for my manila) loaded onto phone and it crashed after soft reset. Took battery out and phone doesn't go past first screen (with the red writing bottom left) - Hard reset is the same and now I'm worried!
Any ideas???
sad to say yy sounds like hard reset time.
power off, hold volume up and volume down, tap power keeping volume up and down pressed til the screen comes on and follow the prompts.
it will reset your phone to factory defaults.
never used max manila so I cant help with what the problem might be, but if there is a developers thread for it you might be better asking there.
Thanks for replying samsamuel - I've tried the hard reset and it doesn't work!
Even when I do as you say, I get the white start screen with htc written on it and then several red lines at the bottom right starting R G and D and that's it! It just stay's like that - At this moment I'd pray for a hard reset!!
I'm going to try booting from the sd card but I'm not sure I can get the phone to go into the bootable mode. I've downloaded the HTC rom and extracted the nmh so we'll see.
if your phone is provider locked then that will not work.you need the rom that came on your phone. so if was from uk o2 then you need the o2 uk rom, otherwise it wont work.
No luck! Whilst I've got everything to sort the phone out it won't do anything but load the white first screen no matter which buttons I hold down.
Man this sucks!
Guess there's nothing for it except the bin unless anyone else has any other ideas??
can you get into boot loader?
press and hold vol down(not up this time, just down) tap and release power, keep vol down held. should boot to striped cultures colored screen.
if you can what does it say next to SPL?
Hi Samsamual
Thanks for helping but no, won't go into bootloader either - doesn't respond to any input (even when I conect the usb the charge led doesn't come on!) and just starts with the white screen with the HTC logo and then the red writting appears and it just hangs - left it for 5 mins just to be sure and no change
Looks like I've really messed it up although I have no idea what I did wrong - instal went just like the other things I installed.
Ahh shame. All i can suggest is the original rom sd card method. But it MUST be the propper rom that came on your phone, so if you got it from vodaphone, , , even if it is unlocked, you must use the voda rom.
Also, have a really good read through the pages in teh rom development section. If you can find someone with the exact same issue, you could be one step closer to fixing it.

WB
Have you tried a boot (all combinations!) without the sd card installed?
Hoss and WB - thanks for the comments
Hoss, I've held the volume buttons for over a minute after powering on - no change
WB, I can't get the phone to go into boot loader screen but thanks for the info for the future. Next time I'll see if I can copy the original rom just in case.
Resigned myself to having a new paper weight on my desk and looking for a new phone - Guess I won't be putting so many programs on my new one....
PA - Thanks for the advice - Yes tried with sd card in/out sim in/out bootloader, hard reset, soft reset and always the same.
In your posts you do not mention where you bought your HD2, and I do not know what country you are in.
From what I have read, it seems that you did not flash any ROMs, nor change your SPL, so if I were you, at this point, rather than accepting a bricked paperweight, why not explore your warranty possibilities?
Contact the place you bought the HD2 (the dealer) and explore your options. Since I do not know which country you are in I will not suggest an HTC service center, but if your country has such a center, at last resort, you might check out that possibility.
Since you apparently had no hardware problems before the manila incident, it would seem that it is a software glitch somehwere.
Good luck with all of this. It must be almost heartbreaking to have this happen with such beautiful hardware.

What's most annoying is it wasn't as if I was doing anything crazy! Max manila is used by many people (from what I've seen in the threads) and I guess I downloaded the wrong one (although naturally I checked and it's the right one). Certainly will curb my using of 3rd party software! As for the warranty, you're right, I can try and see if it can be fixed (bizarrely, that hadn't occured to me - I thought that with no resets working HTC couldn't do anything). Thanks for the tip and I'll let you know how I get on.
Surely your warranty will cover this. Yes, let me (and us) know how all of this goes. You will get your phone back to what you deserve, for sure!
I had the same issue.
Sent mine to HTC and got it back with the comment "Cannot reproduce"
Probably it solved itself when the battery was removed for a couple of days in the mail.
It has now been working for two weeks again.
Fingers crossed.

Experential nut I may be, but just wondering if you had the problem after you installed the MAx manila? I wonder now what versions of OS may be causing this problem.
i had something like this with my HTC Diamond... It stopped responding completely when turned on, didn't respond to the usb cable being plugged in (the round ring used to illuminate when charging)
I took the battery out, for about 30 minutes... then left it charging for another 30 minutes - booted up straight away and never did anything like that again
Worth a shot just leaving it without power for awhile, and then just recharging it
Like watnuweer mentioned, "cannot reproduce" probably fixed itself by not having the battery left in for awhile

This is getting more interesting, what do you suppose is the cure of taking out the battery, and then charging? I do not doubt your experience, I am just extremely curious if anyone can explain this phenomena.

Argh! The screen is no longer responsive. What to do?

Just as i said - Argh! The screen is no longer responsive. What to do? I can no longer slide the lock across the screen. i have tried to flash the ROM with the 1.66 official but i cannot because it tells me to unlock the phone. I cant! argh! I've pushed the little red button by the battery a couple of times as well as removed the battery. Any suggestions? The hard buttons allow me to answer a call but that's it. i recently turned on the lock for the phone (today in fact) but I've unlocked it several times since doing so before this happened.
Sounds familiar...
Sounds like it is the same problem I had, as well as a few others on this forum. Even after a hard reset, it still didn't work. According to other people here, the solution is to have the screen swopped out for a new one. I've actually just sent mine in today to get it sorted out.
Just curious - I've got a suspicion that environmental conditions may have a role to play in causing the failure. What is the weather in your area like?
Very nice here today. Sunny, mid 50s(f).
I bought this off of ebay. Do i just send it in to HTC?
Try a hard reset, and if it doesn't help then make sure you have an official ROM and send it to HTC.
a hard reset is the little red button next to the battery, correct? ive done that.
and i cant very well change the ROMs at this point now, can i?

I would really like to wipe it before i sent it in. i dont want all my info, etc going into someones hands i dont know. anyway to do that?
No, that's a soft reset. Hard reset is pressing the red button while holding both volume keys until you get the "Restore factory settings?" prompt (when the device is on), then following the onsceeen instructions. This is what you're looking for to erase everything, including any possible software bug that could have caused the issue.
If the touchscreen still doesn't work then, send it in.

No! A hard reset is:
- Turn phone off
- Press vol up and down at the same time and then press power button (hold vol)
- follow the instructions on the screen
Be aware, that all you data on the phone will get lost. I recommend taking out the SD for that as well. After that u r done. By what you say i assume, that you didnt flash a custom ROM yet, right ?
Thanks! that didnt work either though.
I just want my money back now honestly. This thing, as pretty as it is, is just too much trouble.
Sorry double post...
A faulty device can happen to anybody, just bad luck... can't count how many times it has happened to me as well in the past.
I heard that there is a batch of phones that have a faulty screen, other problems are that without pressing anything the phone still registers clicks, phone doesn't always detect the correct place of where you pressed and the screen not responding.
I have got this on my phone and have arranged a pick up from HTC to pick up my phone for repair, hopefully in a week or two it will come back with a brand new screen that works
Ive had it a couple of months now. Im not sure if i can deal with the lack of apps that my iPhone has, pandora and the like, and the fact that teh HD2 would every so often change time and even date and i cant get weather in places my iPhone can.
In short, i love the HD2 for its specs but i no longer trust it at all.

[Q] Device encryption hangs start-up

Hello,
I recently configured ActiveSync E-Mail on my HTC HD mini. Everything works fine until I power off and power on the device. The startup sequence is paused with the following text:
"Company policy has enabled device encryption. Startup is suspended. Select unlock to continue. Emergency calls: Press talk."
When I select Unlock then nothing happens (the button is pressed).
The device cannot be turned off by power off button (it only goes to sleep).
The problem is not solved by removing the battery, putting it back and powering on.
The only way to get the device working is to hard reset the device by the special sequence of keys.
Device: HTC HD mini
ROM: RUU_Photon_HTC_WWE_EastEurope_1.36.479.1_Radio_Signed_32.2803.05.06_0.63.05.36_Ship.exe
I reproduced this problem 3 times.
I downgraded from RUU_Photon_HTC_WWE_EastEurope_1.36.479.1_Radio_Signed_32.2803.05.06_0.63.05.36_Ship.exe to RUU_Photon_HTC_WWE_EastEurope_1.32.479.2_Radio_Signed_32.2802.05.06_0.63.05.35_Ship.exe which seemed to remove the problem. However, it appeared after several power cycles also on 1.32.
Any idea how to correct this?
I had exactly the same problem when I purchased the HD minn a few months ago. It happened 3 times in a row that I had to hard-reset and re-install for exactly the same reason (no unlock keys after start-up.) I called my corporate's IT department. They said they changed something on my MS exchange policy profile that may help. Frankly, I can't believe that this was the real root cause of the issue but ever since then it works fine. Never had this problem again for 4 months.
Sorry that I don't have a real solution for you.
CM
Thank you for you reply. May I have additional questions?
1. What ROM release do you have on your HD mini? As you had the problem a few months ago it might be 1.32, right? I have the problem on ROM 1.36 when I first time power cycled the HD mini. It survived many power cycles on ROM 1.32 until the last one which caused the problem again.
2. Is there any chance asking your corp. IT dept. about the change they did?
==
edit:
It seems that the responsible one is HTC Sense. I upgraded from ROM 1.32 to 1.36. I decided to test this with HTC Sense turned off. The problem is no longer present on 1.36 when HTC Sense is off. However, it is a workaround only. I informed HTC support and I hope they will fix it.
Same problem as the others, only I found the cause!
Everything works fine on mine (1.36) until I change the lock screen wallpaper. As soon as I change that the device hangs on the unlock screen at start-up.
If you look at the way it all works, on start-up when you are prompted to unlock, you get the standard unlock screen with the slide down option, and a background picture. I'm guessing the default picture is held in un-encrypted memory, and so it works. If you change the picture, the new picture is held in encrypted space and can't be accessed until you add your key. Only you can't because the device has crashed.
One work around may be to assign it a background picture from the SD card. But having only just got the thing to work I don't feel like trying it in case it puts me back to square one.
Update: Yes copy the image you want to SD card and then change the lock screen wallpaper to point at that. Device boots normally with the new wallpaper.
Hopefully this will help someone.
radar: Thank you for your input. The explanation sounds reasonable. I'll test it once I need to reinstall the device. I'll stick with the working status I have for now.
I am in the middle of waiting for my hard reset to complete as I type. I just had the same exact issues as you all described. I wanted to add though that the background I was using when this happened was from my storage card so I dont know if that will fix anything.
Ill try to add anything else I find out. I am going to try this one more time and then forget about my work email if the same thing happens. Or I might try to find a new rom - but I like what I have
Edit: I actually just saw that you (radar) said the image on the card worked... weird. I'm goign to try again. If I could get around this everything will be working perfectly and I'm not ready to give up.
Try disabling HTC sense. It helped me.; I am running months (done several power cycles) without the problem.
