Lojack for 8525 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Recently I upgraded to the 8525 from the 8125 and remember installing a program on my 8125 that would automatically send an sms containing contact information to a designated number upon SIM and/or owner information change, as to track down anyone who finds/steals your phone and tries to make it their own. I cannot seem to find the link anymore. Does anyone know of a program that does this and loads into extended rom so that a hard reset wouldnt erase it. Thanks

Try http://www.pocketpc-live.com/ultimate-theft-alert-v3-for-pocket-pcs.html Nick has a program that does what you are asking for. "Ultimate Theft Alert V3"

Photo Contacts not working!

Hey all,
Can anyone tell me if they were able to fix the photo contacs app in imate/xdaII ???
Plus does anybody know about pocketNav for xdaII?
Thx...
this batch should resolve this problem
Hello
this is known issue on i-mate and it's been fixed below find the link if you want to download the fix file
http://www.imate.com/imate/files/gitex_update.cab
just download it and copy it to the PPC on storage directory and apply it within the PPC.
btw this will wipe off all data on your device so it's recommended to backup your data before you apply this batch and when done you need to do hard reset.
best regadrs and have a great day.

re
well I managed to fix any probs I had which pic caller id by moving O2active from the startup menu, Haven't deleted it just didn't want it starting up all the time.
Cleared a few other anomolies up as well.
Cheers, Shire
Sorry to dig up an old thread. I found this by using search.
I have an i-mate XDA2 clone. I installed the patch above and performed a hard reset. OK - caller ID seems to work now. Incoming calls have a name and a picture.
However, when I look at "received calls" it only displays the phone number with no name.
Is there a more recent patch that fixes this?
Since you don't state your ROM version and so on, I think you might be better of upgrading the rom of your device.
I've not read about any problems on that. As soon as the phone picks the Number who is calling, it associates that to the contact and it's photo ID and name. That is then logged onto the call history.
Be sure you look at the correct place, Call history has multiple entries for incoming, outgoing and missed calls, and an option to see them all, maybe you are looking at the wrong list?
Good luck!

IIWPO: MUST-HAVE 4 ur expensive JJ!

IIWPO is a FREE (xda-developers) app that wakes up and sends an SMS if anyone changes the owner info. So, if ur device is stolen, you get an SMS as soon as a new SIM is installed and the owner info is changed. From that SMS, you can start to call and hunt down the thief.
Typically IIWPO is installed in an unlocked ROM. We can't do that on the JJ, BUT we do have persistent storage, so we can put it in our startup folder and only a savvy PPC user will know to remove it (most thieves are not going to be savvy - or at least not before you've been informed of their new details!).
Can someone please provide a version that works on the JasJar, along with brief instructions on how best to set it up. For a device of this value, this will be MUCH appreciated! In fact, it DEMANDS a donation to xda-developers (crediting IIWPO)...
[Edit] The currently available version works! I'm making my donation right now. See
Not sure i fully understood
By installing the app, what it does is:
when inserting a different sim than the one I specified,
it sends me (Specified sim / phone number) an SMS
with the new (Thief) phone number?
if so - does it also work on normal phones IE - nokia?
or only PPC phone ?
10x in advance,
It's written for XDA devices - Nokia is a totally different OS.
Of course if a thief steals YOUR PPC, then that's what is going to send the SMS - no worries.
Remember we have no extention now....so a simply hard-reset will erase the program , but i think it can be be proctected , because the same thing happens to the boot screen , its never erased after hardreset ...so we have a chance...and secondly when u install the program remember not to activate the lock ( screen) bucuz then the theive cant change the owner info..
Thx

Messaging won't start

Sigh... Having some issues.
Before I start, here's the specs:
Cingular 8125
CID/SIM Unlocked
Service: Cingular
ROM: Molski's 2.26.10.2 AKU2.3
Radio: 02.47.11
Protocol 4.1.13.24
IPL/SPL: 2.26
The problem: At random, messaging just quit working all together. I havent installed anything new. I was able to send a text message this morning at 10AM and I tried opening up messaging today around 5:00pm and nothing happens. Messaging via Softkey, today screen, start menu, you name it... It doesn't work.
I've searched for about an hour both on this forum and google and I can't find any real solutions to this problem. I hope there is a fix out there and I just haven't found it.
I tried viewing processes in taskmanager while pressing the messaging softkey, and tmail.exe will appear in the processes list for about half a second then disappear. I viewed Windows\Messaging\ and there are a bunch of 0kb files there. The sms backup program included with Molski's rom won't work. It gives me the following error: "GetFolder: 0 error."
I'm guessing that some database went corrupt? Anyone have any feedback on this? Any fixes short of doing a hard reset? I'd like to avoid a hard reset because it's a major PITA to restore everything. How common is it to have to do hard resets if everything has been functioning properly with no tinkering? This 8125 is becoming a major headache for me. =\
Alright, I've found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=269644&highlight=messaging+button+does
Apparently closing out tmail.exe will cause issues. I'm guessing this is related to using the "Close All" button that was included in Molski's rom. I'm not sure if the close all feature is available via pocketplus... If it is, I'd add tmail.exe to the exceptions list, but I have no clue where to find the settings for the "Close All" button.
Anyone have any idea?
I just had this happen to me today, is there a way to fix it?
Any fixes for this? I have read some people doing a hard restart, but I would rather not have to do that. Thanks.
For what it's worth, I had the same thing this week. Couldn't find anything simple anywhere. So..., I removed my 1G ram card. Messaging worked! I found that I had hundreds of texts in the various messaging folders and I deleted everything. So far, so good.
I noted that "running programs" shows only which folder is active in messenger, eg "text", "pop3", "sbc" or whatever you've named your services.
Oh, I'm using the WM5 messenging program that came standard. tmail? Hope this helps some other lost soul!

try format the device to refrish it
Hi,
I've been having the same problem with my Trinity, running the last Ax3l WM6 ROM (although I don't believe the ROM is at fault).
The messaging application simply stopped launching, be it from the menu shortcuts or the executable itself.
I've tried the SIM in another phone, which sends and recieves SMS OK.
After finding this post and reading suggestion the above, I tried removing the MMC and it started working again, and all my old messages were still there also. With the card back in, the problem returned.
I wasn't sure where (or why) the phone is storing SMS/messaging related stuff on my MMC card. The only thing i could find was an empty folder (no hidden or system files either):
\storage card\Inbox.mst.23423(random nos...)
tried renaming to OLD first, and all was fine again, so deleted it. weird.
Anyway, thought I'd add that in the hope it might help someone with the same issues
I had the same problem and followed these steps, it worked, Thanks for the advice.

@boma23
THANK YOU!!! Deleted the file soft reset and it's working again.
I think the file is created if you go into the messaging options and check the box that says "When available, use this storage card to store attachments"
I was about 5 seconds away from doing a hard reset when I stumbled upon this thread.
THANK YOU
I found this thread and tried it...It saved my day. I was about to have a fit!
Thanks again

smsengine error - no incoming texts!

Hi there,
Can anyone help me with an odd sms problem?
After installing some programs to try and back up my text messages from my xda exec, which were unsuccessful, I've since uninstalled them and now discovered I'm not recieiving any incoming text messages... only the network voicemail 901 messages ever get through, but whenever a text message comes in I get a dialogue appear saying
"smsengine.exe
The file 'smsengine' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file."
when "ok" is clicked, the dialogue closes, then when the pocket outlook is opened I get a small dialogue box saying
"SendMyMessage
SendMessage failed.
TimeOut!"
Obviously I can't ever see what the message was, it just never gets displayed in Pocket Outlook (presumably due to the error above )
Any Ideas what I can do? is smsengine.exe a standard WM5 program, if so, can somebody find it on their machine, copy and email it to me, and tell me where to save it to?
Or do I need to muck about in the registry?
I can't reset my phone to factory defaults because I have some really, really really important text messages relating to my employment which was why I started this mucking about trying to back up the messages in the first place... so I'm really stuck now, and I'd really appreciate if someone could offer some advice on what the best approach would be.
hi,
I've heard of smsengine.exe afaik its not a standard wm5 file i'd say whatever programs you installed to backup are the cause of your problems.
I'd reinstall the programs and remove 1 at a time to see which is the cause
What programs did you install?
solved - thanks - any other sms backups that might work?
Thanks Deadmetal
Strangely I'd already tried uninstalling, with no luck, but tried reinstalling, then removing, and eventually the problem seems to have fixed itself using this proceedure. very odd!
The program I installed was smsOrganizer by zedsoft
http://www.zedsoft.net/
Which doesnt seem to work on the Exec for some reason, even though it says its WM2005 (which I presume is WM5 - if I'm wrong with this assumption it might explain why it messed it up <grin>)
Can anyone recommend a good (free) tool to backup sms messages under WM5 that I can use?
Thanks for the help
Derek
Ah! smsorganiser! Yeah I thought the software you had been using was that. I've had several problems using it but it does look a decent piece of software if the bugs ever get ironed out!
the problem keeps on!

Hard reset over SMS? Can it be done?

Hello all,
So... bad news has befallen me. I've lost my Hermes; someone else found it and called Mexico city a bunch of times. This is the first time I've ever lost a cell phone in the many years I've carried one.
As I wait for my replacement to arrive I'm wondering what is happening with the data that is on the old one...
I know I can't do anything about the one I lost, but I can think about the next one.
So here is the question: Is there any programs that can wipe the memory card, and hard reset a PocketPC phone when a "special" SMS message or a series of messages shows up? I am hoping to find some way that I can wipe the data off a lost phone, but without a timer running the background that has to be reset.
Thanks in advance!
its highly unlikely, coz if such a thing existed anyone can flash anyone phone by sending an sms, but if have installed some anti theft program it will send a silent sms to u with some info of the cell tower the phone is using..for now get the phone and imei barred by ur service provider
I've already disabled them.
I was thinking of something that would allow you to set a random password to make the phone reset. I'm not having much luck finding one... maybe I need to write one when I have free time...
Is there a way in the WM5/6 APIs to cause a hard reset?
EDIT:
Apparently there is a way: http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/hardreset.html
Now I need to figure out how to put a hook into the SMS receiving code.
I DONT THINK U CAN HOOK THAT UP THROUGH sms.. sorry about caps
If you have an exchange server 2007 account you have the capability to wipe all data from the PPC.
Also, see this product: http://www.motionapps.com/msafe/_treo700w.jsp It is currently listed for specific devices, but it demonstrates the capability you are looking for and they have a free trial...
Hrm...
I went and looked at the MS video here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/business/directpushemail.mspx
And this IS the functionality I'm looking for.... BUT I don't think I want to set up an exchange server.
I doubt my phone would play well with a server that is running on my laptop

Ahh HA! very nice find!
I hope it works on the new Hermes. I'll try it tomorrow when my replacement phone gets here and report back if it works.
I have not tried yet but it seems very cool.
It can do a lot of things by sms control included the hard reset
Eye on thief:
http://www.mycnknow.com/LockAppen.htm
Here's what I don't get with that program...
I'm on Cingular... my settings and whatnot are for Cingular. If the thief has T-mobile, or orange, or whatever... will the SMS still get sent?
You have to enter the "alert" phone number with full access codes, preferably with country code. If the thief can use the phone with his SIM card, it will work. I don't know about the US, but in Europe it's no problem to send a SMS from one carrier to another.
Here's another program doing basically the same:
http://www.pocketpc-live.com/ultimate-theft-alert-v3-for-pocket-pcs-2.html
Remote Protect works as well...
you can lock your phone with an sms, unlock with sms, hard reset as well...
i'm using it on my Dopod 838pro with no problems.
It also has the ability to send you an sms telling you that your phone has been stolen and provides the Thief's IMSI number and your phone's IMEI as well. Once you receive the sms from the Thief's SIM card, you get his number. From there, you can send the Hard Reset/Lock format to his number and it locks the phone.
