IIWPO: MUST-HAVE 4 ur expensive JJ! - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

IIWPO is a FREE (xda-developers) app that wakes up and sends an SMS if anyone changes the owner info. So, if ur device is stolen, you get an SMS as soon as a new SIM is installed and the owner info is changed. From that SMS, you can start to call and hunt down the thief.
Typically IIWPO is installed in an unlocked ROM. We can't do that on the JJ, BUT we do have persistent storage, so we can put it in our startup folder and only a savvy PPC user will know to remove it (most thieves are not going to be savvy - or at least not before you've been informed of their new details!).
Can someone please provide a version that works on the JasJar, along with brief instructions on how best to set it up. For a device of this value, this will be MUCH appreciated! In fact, it DEMANDS a donation to xda-developers (crediting IIWPO)...
[Edit] The currently available version works! I'm making my donation right now. See

Not sure i fully understood
By installing the app, what it does is:
when inserting a different sim than the one I specified,
it sends me (Specified sim / phone number) an SMS
with the new (Thief) phone number?
if so - does it also work on normal phones IE - nokia?
or only PPC phone ?
10x in advance,

It's written for XDA devices - Nokia is a totally different OS.
Of course if a thief steals YOUR PPC, then that's what is going to send the SMS - no worries.

Remember we have no extention now....so a simply hard-reset will erase the program , but i think it can be be proctected , because the same thing happens to the boot screen , its never erased after hardreset ...so we have a chance...and secondly when u install the program remember not to activate the lock ( screen) bucuz then the theive cant change the owner info..
Thx

This message will self destruct...

Hiya All,
Some serious thinking came across my mind couple of days ago...what if my device will get lost ? Any person that will find it will be able to view anything on my device such as contacts, calendar, notes and even use the phone.
Of course there is an option to lock the device but who the h*ll want to unlock it everytime he is starting to use it ?
What I was thinking is to send a restructive sms message or anything alike that will make a HR to the device or lock it with long enough password to avoid hacking.
Anyone has encoutered this kind of app that can make the above request ?
Any other usefull thoughts on this subject ?
Thanks in advance,
Bright Star
You could install One-Pass. It locks the PPC until a password is entered. WIth this software installed, no one could get into your PPC. They could get what ever was on your storage card, though.
I have an application I am in final beta stages that will hard reset the ppc,
based on a user defined code being sent via sms.
inane, does it hard reset when anyone sends the sms or does it recognise only certain numbers? Last thing I would want is my mates finding out about the message and sending it to me for a laugh!
There's an app that comes with the WM5 SDK that allows you to lock ur device via SMS but obviously you'd need WM5

Bright Star,
There is a commercial application available that does exactly that. It is named PDAKill. The developer is ScpSoft (http://www.scpsoft.com).
Here is a brief blurb from their website:
PDAKill is designed to protect users of PDA's from loss/theft of their devices. It allows users to send a predefined SMS message which will hard reset the PDA, deleting the user data (including the storage area* and Storage Card which eliminates any files surviving the hard reset) returning the device to its original factory settings.
You can purchase it from Handango for about $15.00. I've never used it so I can't provide you with any other comment. I just recalled reading about it.

Thanks alot Peter,
This looks like the s/w I've been looking after.
I'll buy it and give it a try.

Better back up your data first...
I still like one-pass better. It locks the screen with your user information showing. This allows an honest person who finds your PDA to call you and collect the generous reward you offer.
THe only way to get out of the 1-pass system is to do a hard reset, which kills the internal memory and storage.

Do you know where I can get this, I have the BlueAngel with WM5 and would love to use a program like this. I am sure that it would require a client install and the sms to the device would require some type of code.
Thanks
it would be cool if there would be a low level application which could reflash the boot rom with zero's and somehow disable bootloader mode and then preform a soft reset. the device could then be thrown into a trash without a service in a repair center...

Do you know who wrote One-Pass?

FYI it can be nicely resource hacked to make it match your own theme
I'll try to post a screenshot some time.

But how would you know which number you send the SMS to? You will never now what SIM card the "thief" is using!

no need to install One-Pass, just set the "prompt if device unused" to 0 minutes, then it will always ask for password.
Man if we could get a program like this it would be great (SMS Lock), and more than likely if someone finds your phone they are not going to know what to do with it...

What if they do a reset? I don't think the password is in effect at that time. You could require a password (PIN) for the phone, but I find that to be a hassle.
With one-pass, the phone won't complete the soft reset unless the password is entered.
It also allows you to program the buttons for a "quick password".

not to get too offtopic but I for a start would NEVER put important data on an mobile device. It's risky enough with some docs on my notebook but those are now going to be transferred to an remote encrypted server with an stable VPN connection.
PDAs aren't secure. PERIOD. I never store any important data on my Magician. The worst thing you'll find are the text messages to my gf, hehe. Btw i'm I the only one concerned about losing an € 500 device ?
Liking the boom-on-SMS idea tough. Will prob never use it. I use deltalock to lock the screen of my Magician. 9 of 10 ppl are too stupid to figure out how to unlock it. hehehe.

how do you send contact details in sms

Unless I've missed something...
I cannot find a way to forward a phone number to someone else via a sms or in the form of a business card.
Even my old and battered Nokia 6230 work phone can do that via sms..
The Orange M3100 (TyTN) is supposed to be a business user type phone. This feature is something I make use of and don't seem to be able to perform with the M3100..
I've tried to copy the number and paste it with no luck. Is there a way to do it ???
Here's hoping
Phil-w
You can't, and it's Microsoft fault. In fact, with WM5 there are many things can't be done that are usual on regular or Symbian-based phones. E.g. I was shocked that I can't even read SMSes stored on my SIM card!
The rumor is that this feature should appear in AKU3.0.

*#123# Don't Work in My Qtek 9000

Hello all,
When I put the Code *#123# to see how much money I spend in this month, my Qtek stay in the "waiting" ballon forver and don't give-me any answere.
Anyone know I way to put this to work or one app that I install and can give me the information I need?
Thanks
Hi,
I am not very familiar with that issue but try to call Your customer services - I thing Youll have to provide something like "PIN2" code to get informations about Your calls and finances.
best
Piotr
Maybe you should try *123#...
it works on Vodafone (at least in Romania)

What are the radio versions that you are using?
Radio version is 1.13.00
The problem is generated by your SIM card, it's mailbox is full. Try to put the SIM card in another phone and clear inbox and then try again.

In my humble opinion this thing is not at all related to the mailbox getting full AFAIK this thing is controlled by the network operater .
Yes, you're right, but if your version of windows doesn't read and delete those sms (like it happened to me) you're cost control messages will stack up on your sim and nobody will delete them, unless you put your card into a phone and delete them.
I've had ROM 1.30.77 from Q-tek and had that problem, after upgrading to AKU 3.2 i can delete them from sim card and everything it's OK.
i get a 'command not supported' message from my phone.
Try wakko's method to delete them.

Hard reset over SMS? Can it be done?

Hello all,
So... bad news has befallen me. I've lost my Hermes; someone else found it and called Mexico city a bunch of times. This is the first time I've ever lost a cell phone in the many years I've carried one.
As I wait for my replacement to arrive I'm wondering what is happening with the data that is on the old one...
I know I can't do anything about the one I lost, but I can think about the next one.
So here is the question: Is there any programs that can wipe the memory card, and hard reset a PocketPC phone when a "special" SMS message or a series of messages shows up? I am hoping to find some way that I can wipe the data off a lost phone, but without a timer running the background that has to be reset.
Thanks in advance!
its highly unlikely, coz if such a thing existed anyone can flash anyone phone by sending an sms, but if have installed some anti theft program it will send a silent sms to u with some info of the cell tower the phone is using..for now get the phone and imei barred by ur service provider
I've already disabled them.
I was thinking of something that would allow you to set a random password to make the phone reset. I'm not having much luck finding one... maybe I need to write one when I have free time...
Is there a way in the WM5/6 APIs to cause a hard reset?
EDIT:
Apparently there is a way: http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/hardreset.html
Now I need to figure out how to put a hook into the SMS receiving code.
I DONT THINK U CAN HOOK THAT UP THROUGH sms.. sorry about caps
If you have an exchange server 2007 account you have the capability to wipe all data from the PPC.
Also, see this product: http://www.motionapps.com/msafe/_treo700w.jsp It is currently listed for specific devices, but it demonstrates the capability you are looking for and they have a free trial...
Hrm...
I went and looked at the MS video here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/business/directpushemail.mspx
And this IS the functionality I'm looking for.... BUT I don't think I want to set up an exchange server.
I doubt my phone would play well with a server that is running on my laptop

Ahh HA! very nice find!
I hope it works on the new Hermes. I'll try it tomorrow when my replacement phone gets here and report back if it works.
I have not tried yet but it seems very cool.
It can do a lot of things by sms control included the hard reset
Eye on thief:
http://www.mycnknow.com/LockAppen.htm
Here's what I don't get with that program...
I'm on Cingular... my settings and whatnot are for Cingular. If the thief has T-mobile, or orange, or whatever... will the SMS still get sent?
You have to enter the "alert" phone number with full access codes, preferably with country code. If the thief can use the phone with his SIM card, it will work. I don't know about the US, but in Europe it's no problem to send a SMS from one carrier to another.
Here's another program doing basically the same:
http://www.pocketpc-live.com/ultimate-theft-alert-v3-for-pocket-pcs-2.html
Remote Protect works as well...
you can lock your phone with an sms, unlock with sms, hard reset as well...
i'm using it on my Dopod 838pro with no problems.
It also has the ability to send you an sms telling you that your phone has been stolen and provides the Thief's IMSI number and your phone's IMEI as well. Once you receive the sms from the Thief's SIM card, you get his number. From there, you can send the Hard Reset/Lock format to his number and it locks the phone.

O2 Notifications

Hi,
I have a t-mobile mda (touch dual) but have it unlocked with an O2 sim in. Every time I send a text or make a call I get this annoying pay and go balance sent to my phone. Is there any way I can stop the notification or atleast prevent it from making a noise? I have tried turning of all sounds but it doesnt work .
Thanks in advance for any help
you could try search for an O2 named .exe file in \Windows\ or a .lnk in \Windows\Start Up\ and delete (or rename to be safe) them.
but you could also Hard-Reset your device (Hold both call/hangup buttons while device on and press reset with stylus).
or even HardSPL your device and install a clean ROM
NOTE: Use PIM Backup before Hard Reset/ROM change, to save all your sms, email, contacts, etc. !!!
hi
thanks for the quick reply. I want to install niki project rom v2 but apparently it still has a few bugs that need to be ironed out. Do you knoow how I can hard reset? Im a bit of a newbie with the nike - just trying it out before I properly switch from my ancient tornado loll.
Also I know this is kind of off topic but is it just me or is the internet slower on the nike? Could it just be my radio rom?
Thanks again!
This is something that happens on all o2 pay as you go sims, its not the phone.
hi,
thanks for the reply
I know its an o2 thing but is there any way to stop the phone from alerting with a noise everytime I get one - I have tried going through all the notification settings and it still happens if I turn all notifications off - so I end up with no alert for calls / texts but an alert for credit! lol
i'd like to know this too, its pretty annoying!
I cant seem to find anyway to change it :s. On my tornado and prophet the message shows up doesnt make any noise but I cant find options for disabled that tone in the nike rom :s
i found this post that gets rid of the noise, ive yet to try it though
First download totalcmd (another file browser)
Create a blank wav file.. call it notify.wav (sometimes notify.wma)
Use totalcmd to replace the one in the windows directory with the one you created..
It works with some versions of wm5 though, so good luck..

doesnt work, tried that a year ago!
My advice would be to move to a different PAYG provider - T-Mob or Three would be my first choices Get a PAC code, take your number elsewhere
Failing that, ask O2 if they can switch it off?
Cheers,
Smiffy.

O2 have that as a feature phone them up and tell them you dont ant notifications
This is def the notify.wav. We can never get rid of the message from o2 as that is a network feature as previously mentioned.
Replace notify.wav with a blank wav sound. This will make it less annoying.
