Hi, I hope you guys can help me.
I've had my MDA vario for about a week now, and ever since I got it, I cannot for the life in me get it to connect to my IMAP server using the built-in email client.
I done lots of testing stuff, which basically comes down to this:
networking/wifi is connected and working. I got an IP address from my DHCP server
I can ping the server's IP and receive information back
I can connect to the IMAP server using Qmail
but When I use the exact same connection details in the built in client, it doesn't work saying "unable to connect to the incoming mail server. Verify that your login information is correct, then try again to send and receive mail."
The other strange thing is, If I try connect to the mail server from outside my network, e.g. from my work's internet connection, entering my external IP, it works fine.
I've also checked out the server logs, and it doesn't seem to register a connection AT ALL.
so in short, the problem only occurs when connecting to my mail server from my local network, using the built in client.
Any ideas? is there a log file(s) I can check for any details of why it's not working?
I look forward to your replies.

I am not able to stay connected to Windows 2003 pptp vpn server.
When i look at the logs on the server, it indicates the pda2k authenticated, ip address assigned, then it immediately disconnects, no errors on the server and no errors on the devie either......this is puzzling.
any ideas?
thanks.
I have exactly the same problem. I can see the connection is established on the PC but it drops after about 3 seconds. Really bugging me now.

found any solution to this problem yet??

believe it effectively relates to the differences in the pocket pc using "internet" and "work" when choosing and establishing a connection type. internet expects "." in its addresses, whereas work doesnt and anticipates the use of Named addresses such as the name of your server, however, I dont find the DNS effective for this.
to allow it to work when the VPN is on a work connection, I think you need to use the exceptions tab, and insert the IP addresses you are using to connect as an exception to the rules, thus allowing 10.0.0.1 as an address if this the address to your server.
There are posts on this forum that are more specific, but this is the gist of it, search WIFI VPN or similar. Same method if using a VPN over GPRS.
I can connect after a softreset...it maybe work 1-10 times in a row...and then it just stops and dont work again...not until I do a softreset again!
I can go up on gprs and such and surf the net just fine...but not onto vpn.
I've been having a problem for the past week in that I could not connect to my Exchange Server or passthru to the Internet with and ActiveSync connection.
At least for the moment, on the Connections menu, clicking on "USB to PC" and disabling "advanced networking functionality" seems to have resolved the problem.
Anybody else run into this?
And what is this advanced networking, anyway?
I've also noticed that Sprite Backup would fail with it enabled, so it seems I've solved two problems at the same time...
i had that issue as well the work around i did was connect to my wifi connect my device to my pc sync then disconnect my wifi
still a pain
I've always just connected straight to the server over GPRS/UMTS. I haven't even installed Active Sync on my new PC.
hi Folks,
i have the same issue with Active Sync. I am using Active Sync for syncronizing emails, contacts etc ... I have discovered if you installed the device (hardreset) then you may able to sync with the exchange for the first time. After that you are not longer able to sync it.
I used different ROM's (Dopod, Qtek,O2) all have the same problem. I am not able to sync over Active Sync (4.2 latest and prior versions) with my exchange server. I need to sync over 3G Network and thats a bit expensive over the time with O2.
I think this device is more than incomplete since i am using a Wizard too and i have no problems with the same pc on my Wizard device.
I hope there will be a ROM update really soon that covers many issues discussed in that board here...
At least i am really disappointed about the device which HTC sold over the market.
Hi
On mine this works! - nevertheless i am using the IP adress - could be a hint for you guys

do you mean the IP address from the Exchange Server? Or do you pair your device with static IP addresses? :?:
Well ...
I got mine to work after i discovered that the proxy server i placed under gprs connection denied the connection to the exchange server. switching all to MyISP resolved the issue.
If you use a firewall try to look which address the RAPI Manager tries to connect to. Maybe that helps for you to solve your error.
Hi
I use the IP adress for the exchange Server name. The connection Between laptop and device is negotiated automatically
Hi all,
I'm having problems getting ActiveSync (on the phone) to be able to use the WLAN connection to connect to the internet and sync with my exchange server. It takes forever otherwise, even when I use the 3G connection. I understand that it's not possible to sync with a desktop over WLAN but I was hoping there'd be a way to get ActiveSync to treat the WLAN connection like the cellular data connection and just get on the internet.
Thanks for any help!
I have exchange in my office. If you want to use the WLAN (wifi), the exchange server address is usually difference than if you were using 3G (internet). Unfortunately, the 8525 only let use key in one server address, so when you are in the office...you have to turn off wifi....unles you want to retype your the address.
I key in the server address that i use to access outlook web...so if i'm not in the office, i can still get email. It is easier to turn off wifi when i am in the office.
I need to access my companies e-mail server using a VPN connection. I have listed the name of the mail server in the list of expections for which the VPN connection should be used. However when I try to send and receive mails the VPN connection is not automatically established and naturally it fails to connect to the mail server. Also if I manually establish the VPN connection it will automatically disconnect (to try and use the regular 3G Internet connection) as soon as I try to send and receive mails. What am I doing wrong here? How can I get this to work?
I have an HTC Touch HD if that is of any help knowing. I hope some of the wizards here can help me with this problem. Please ask questions if you need further information in order to suggest a solution.
I have a brand spakin' new Verizon Galaxy S5 I got from Amazon a couple days ago. I have it connected to my Gmail account, and that's working like a charm. It looks like everything is working fine, except this strange issue:
I've setup my business email address on the device (the email is self hosted from a CentOS server running Postfix + Dovecot for authentication), and the app refuses to connect over WiFi (but works just fine when I'm connected to 4G).
Checking the "Incoming" and "Outgoing" settings, all it tells me is that it's "Unable to connect to email server to verify your account information. No response from server."
I've gone to "whatismyipaddress.com" to verify that the IP address (IPv4) is the same on the phone as it is on my laptop computer (which connects to the server perfectly fine). I've also double checked port settings and server name, and can confirm that every server setting is identical on the phone as it is on laptop.
Tailing /var/log/maillog on the server, I don't even see the phone attempting to connect, so this is either a firewall issue on the server (unlikely), or a wonky setting on the phone that is somehow preventing it to talk to the server.
As I mentioned, the phone connects to the server perfectly fine over 4G. The only difference I can see is that the phone has an IPv6 address over 4G, and an IPv4 address over WiFi.
Thoughts?
(Oh, and I may be unable to respond for a while - I possibly won't check back on this thread until Monday, Eastern Time).
hi moogly, ur ip address on ur phone should not be the same as ur laptop(pls correct me if im wrong)......
i suggest u to try to change ur wifi settings on ur phone to DHCP instead of static, same goes to ur laptop.
When I said that the phone's IP address was the same as the PC's, I was referring to the public IP address. You're correct that the private IP address should be different, but when the phone is connected to Wifi, it should have the exact same public IP address, as its internet connection is going through the same router as everything else on the network.
It seems that my problem has resolved itself.
After turning Wifi off and back on a number of times, and removing the email address completely and adding it back in, I noticed that if I selected "Accept All Certificates" underneath Security type, the emails would flow just fine, whereas when I selected SSL or TLS without the "Accept all certificates" option, the emails wouldn't work.
Now, to root my old Galaxy S3 (as a practice round), and then root this Galaxy S5!
