I wanted to know if its posible to change the identety of the wizard. I do not mean the the name, I mean the identety that the cellphone network picks it up as.
Is it posible or it has to do with the IMEI number?
u have a stolen one?
dont see why on earth should you want to do that if not to put a stolen into working...
I dont meam how to chanege the imei # and the phone is my. the thing that i want to change is want tells the network what kind of cell it is. like when you go to opera browser and on the settings it asks if you want to be identifide as a pc or handheld but for this i want to change for network identety (to show as a different tipy of phone like a moto or nokia)
if it involves changing the imei then i wont do it but could there be some other way or is it even posible?

In the US, tmobile some how knows what device you have. when i check my service info on the internet it tells me that i own a wizard (tmobile MDA in US) but i then switch the sim to a differerent phone and it then tells me that i have that phone. to download stuff from tmobile u have to have a regular phone because they dont have content for the wizard. so if i could change the id of the wizard or maybe emulate a defferent id i can then download stuff.
Very interesting indeed. AFAIK, the telco is able to get the IMEI of your phone. So, if they were to have a database of all the phone, then probably they can tell what phone you are using by refering to the database.
Or else, try using a cheap old phone to see if they can detect it, thats to make sure that not the high tech phone that is transmitting the 'signal' to the telco for identification.
I have tried it with 4 other phones:1)an old nokia the big ones 2) another nokia small one with mono color screen 3)a cingular motorola v180 not that old but tmobile has released it too 4 months ago 4)a motorola razr V3 from cingular.
the v180 i had tried it before tmobile had theirs and would still come out as owning it and could download with it as the same with the razr but i just resently purchased it.
All would be detected

I've read this a looong time ago. An article that stated, that in your IMEI is encoded your phone manufacturer and model. Maybe sth. else, but not sure.. Can anyone correct me if I'm wrong?
BTW: In many countries changing your IMEI is against the law.. so beware
If only their was a way to emulate this but if its the imei then their is no way to do this legaly but posible at own risk
Your definetly right about being able to detect the type of phone. About 5 or 6 years ago we did a bit of development at work based around getting information to remote users via thier mobile. We had a gateway provided by Nokia that we tested which detected the type of phone and it's browser capability and subsequently redirected to the best suited format (WAP, Internet etc). I know this doesn't answer your question but at least your on the right track

I think you mean changing the "user agent" string ?
That usualy shows what kind of computer + os + browser that you are using
If you use IE then you have to change settings it in the registry
\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\
I think the "Default" key in there is the most important.
Here is a short list of "user agent" strings : http://webcab.de/wapua.htm
you can check your current "user agent" on sites like this : http://www.schroepl.net/cgi-bin/http_trace.pl
Although its a bit messy on the tiny screen of a pda.
some more info found on wiki xda developers :
Change the 'user agent' identification of PIE
To change the 'user agent' identification of Pocket Internet Explorer, several fields need to be adjusted. The example shows how to identify as Internet Explorer 6 - desktop version
The standard compliance 'user-agent' string:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\(Default) = "Mozilla/4.0" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
Defaults to "Mozilla/2.0" The application/version string:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\Version = "MSIE 6.0" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
Defaults to "MSIE 4.01" The host operating system string:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\Platform = "Windows NT 5.0" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
Defaults to "Windows CE" Please note that if you change the Platform string, PDA-friendly sites may stop sending you PDA-friendly content automatically. Leave this string set to "Windows CE" unless a site absolutely refuses to work, or you want the site to feed you its normal content.

What T-Mobile USA is doing is most likely based on IMEI. I see 2 ways that they are doing this. 1) They have a database of IMEI's from all of their "branded phones" that they have sold and their corresponding device models. 2) The IMEI contains manufacturer and model info, just as the VIN on a car contains info on the year, make, model, engine, and country of origin. I am thinking more along the lines of option 1 because I have an unbranded QTEK 9100 on the T-Mobile USA network, and the website is unable to determine what phone I am using.
EDIT:
Actually I just logged into T-Mobile's site, and they are now correctly detecting my phone. So the IMEI most definately contains model info just as the VIN on a car. Here is what I am talking about for those of you that dont have T-Mobile USA

Well, that solved the mystery of how they are able to identify your phone. It got mine relatively accuratly (QTek 9100, while mine is a Vario) and enough to knwo whats your phone type.
Thanks for repliying to this and at first i was thinking that you needed to change the imei but i think ill try changing the user agent because this seems like what i was looking for more then how tmobile was knowing what cell i was using but good to know. hope it works
Thanks again.

no,there isnt any,MS doesn't offer any class on accessing voice stream in its SDKs.But as far as i know, some models have there own way to access the voice--maybe by using new classes maybe by hardware supporting.
am talking about an application that when u reciv a call and u dont answer it, then it will kick in and say that ur not available to answer call then it can record callers msg.
mjnd u im posting using my jam.... kewl
...yeah,I'm also using Nokia6680.
I just answered your question in an angle of a programmer. If you can't get your program access the voice, you cannot expect it to record the voice.
The final answer is "No there isnt" unless someone pops up and write an interface to enable the programmer to access the voice or the hardware allows.

The tick means "enable answer machine",and the blow function allows user to choose where to store the voice records.
---this is the case i meant "hardware support",it's not a common function. As far as I know, another PC manufacturer in China "Lenovo联想" also got a model named ET960 with the answer machine and calling recording function.
the answering machine feature, sometimes called voice box is usually a feature provided by the service provider. so what for you need a software?
voice mail and answer machine are quite different concepts.there is answer machine software on some models which enable user to record calls to local memory card.but as i specified that these functions need the hardware supportind.
i have to disagree with kuangtian. voice mail was developed as a replacement for answering machines. voice mail does exactly the same job as the answering machine, the only difference is that voice mail is "transparent" whereas an answering machine is a physical piece of hardware. in fact almost everyone around the globe have discarded their answering machines because service providers for both land lines and cell phones have included this feature in their services.
my point is why decrease your valuable memory for a piece of software that basically would be redundant?, but that's my personal opinion.

To save money.
Each time a call is diverted to my voicemail it costs me money. Each time I call to listen to my voicemail it costs me money.
Granted it's not a LOT of money each time. But the charges can (and do) add up pretty quickly.

yes almost all service providers have voicemail service. but each time someone leaves you a message, u get charged, when u access it, u get charged. some providers only charge u when u access the message. with inbuilt answering machine on your jam, or any other ppc or mobile phone, u dont get charged, plus the file is for you to keep forever (eg. ur girfriend's I Love You's )
not in my case directly. i just checked my bills and 99% is included in my monthly subscribtion, and i do get quite a lot of voice mails because i'm most of the time on the phone.

agree with Doormat.Voice mail is not alway free! And sometimes the operator charge you both storing and call voice mail number!but receive fone is commonly free.
besides this,a 512SD card is able to store more than one hour voice recording(on Smart Answer on Nokia S60).also,you can also customize your own warm(i wish...) voice for prompt instead of the cold computer sound...
Actually what i mean different concept is that from the view of programmer,it's not a bit same to use a operator voice mail and a software answer machine.Voice mail equals to make a call while answer machine means the software(maybe need hardware assistance) accesses the voice stream.
wow...really a challenge to my poor english...
nm8,received PM from me?
i'm very happy with my s100 but i still wished that htc should have strived harder and added a lot more features wether the end user will use it or not.
sorry for you guys, but as i've said the voice mail feature of either sunrise or swisscom works exactly like a regular answering machine. we can activate the standard computer generated greeting or record our own. what's best that it's practically free.
in my case i only save messages that contain important information, the rest i automatically delete it.
hey man, nothing to be sorry about.
In fact,my o2 charges nothing on the voice-mail too...they even give me free GPRS.....
I really really wish Microsoft could release a class to access the voice-stream........so i can write a program to record the calling and as an answer machine...

I obviously am sensative as to who while looking my XDA over could accidentally find my porn stash.
What software package is best for encrypting movie files and pics?
resco explorer come with a built in encrypt file software.
Or Airscanner Encrypter to encrypt whole folders easily.
perhaps make the folder "hidden" then take the view hidden files function away so that the general browser doesnt find it.
i also apply a name that will not attract attention such as work or parents .... or system or temp cache or similar, anything but say porn xxx look here
then again, dont be ashamed of your actions, or dont do the actions....
nothing wrong with a bit or even a lot of porn
if it offends people, they shouldnt be looking, and even if they found it, they should choose not to look

I actually use Airscanner for er..... encrypting stuff that.....er I'd rather wasn't....... er easy to find. <coughs>
I can vouch it works well under WM5, and it appears to work by using multi-pass bitwiping to ensure there is no trace of the original files prior to encyption.
Odd thing is though, I'm sure it used to be free, but now they seem to charge for it. My advice is look at free download sites for a copy.
Not sure where the software came from, but my press and hold menus provide encryption, I think its resco explorer.
I can use normal file explorer to "hide" files from general view, but I noticed in Resco explorer, the hidden files are still clearly visible, so not sure if there is a bug in the resco app for hidden files, but they are definitely hidden from the normal ppc file explorer. add that to resco encryption, I think should be sufficient.
Good (and bad) news - looks like we won't be needing this software anyway:

There is a program called KeePass which works on most devices, relevant here is the Desktop and PocketPC. The datafiles are transferable between both devices. I have used it on my Universal without problems. I have actually been using this program for a long time, I keep the DB on a USB key and a copy of the program. This means that when I plug in my key the password safe opens and asks for the password, or I can run it from the key if on another machine.
As for encrypting the pr0n, what about a good old .RAR archive? The version that I use (Pocket RAR 3.50) will encrypt and decrypt folders and files, quite fast too.
If you're talking about a large stash this won't work, but if you're only carrying round < 10MB you could always use the ExtendedROM partition and leave it hidden.
This means that you could have all your files in readable format, but without knowing the name that you used for the partition they couldn't access it without searching the registry for the name.
Not many people are going to search the registry for a name they don't even know exists.
This might sound like a difficult thing to do, but Buzz made an unlocker and the registry change for the name is in the thread.
Once you have done your hard reset and loaded the ExtendedROM you don't need the stuff in there anymore, and can use the space for storage.
"stash"
I agree, I know "people" that use a zip file for text, and otherwise just buried folders.
How's abouts we make a small app to render files unusable? You could take the filename, pre-pend it to the file in binary to render it unusable, using a simple XOR encryption for those few bytes. Then give it a generic filename and extension, eg Sheet1.prn.
When launched, .prn files will launch our decrypter, asking for the password. I suppose you could possibly memory map the decrypted file to even ensure an unencrypted version doesn't exist on the device for any considerable period (ie until you close the decrypter).
just an idea.

Sounds good V,

HTC Video IP Camera monitoring (software released)
Have you ever wanted to watch your IP cam with your WM phone ? We had the same issues a few years back. We have finally received the official ok to release the camera only version. The geeks in our group finally get to help this community out.
This release will always have a free IP camera input. One to see your favorite pet cam, your child’s daycare center, your favorite beach cam, your home/office security IP cam etc. Download it here.

You need the latest 3.5 Compact Framework installed on the device. You can download it from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...49-3c6b-42f1-9fd9-0041345b3385&displaylang=en
and it has instruction on the page on how to install it. Basically connect your device to ActiveSync, and then run the .msi that you download.

thats useful,
If you are looking for cameras to test on, you can visit:
http://www.opentopia.com/hiddencam.php
The easiest way to find out the address is right clicking on the video that you want and select properties. If it is a supported camera (Axis or Panasonic) you only need to enter the IP address or DNS name, otherwise enter the full URL to the image location.
If you are having problems adding a camera, be sure to read the README in the zip or the installation directory.

I believe this issue has been fixed. There was an issue with JPEGs that were around 640x480 or larger which caused an issue with the buffer, but this has since been fixed with JPEG streams. I tried to PM you to let you know and see if it worked before I posted it here, but from my testing on the JPEG streams the only ones I couldn't get were larger images, and that was a buffer issue. So if you could re-download it and re-install it hopefully it will work for you now.
Hope everyone else is enjoying the program.

I just picked one of these that I intend to keep as a spare WP8 device. My 928 will still be my permanent device, but I just needed one with all of AT&T's apps. I paid $79.99 for one of these for a colored back and a free 8GB microSD along with a USB nub and a charger (sans usb-adapter) from a local RadioShack. Nothing has really been unpackaged, but I'm still drudging through. I just took a few screenshots, but more soon. The first thing I'm testing will be the dial codes WITHOUT updates.

Okay, I've finally dumped everything I've got at the moment. I still need to obtain a rom, and that will be a few weeks from now. (I hate this metered ISP we have to use...)
The Factory ROM is now in my possession and I'm playing around with it a tad. I can compare it with a few different things, but NCS doesn't have a formal image of the RM-915 and the tests don't work right, so I guess I'll have to wait until Nokia updates NCS again....

the instructions tell you how to re- enable CareSuite_External
You just need an edited user configuration file. Its available just about everywhere and you can also just use the one that comes with the Nokia Service Updater for Retail. I'm just saying it doesn't have a pic of the device just something that looks like it was created in paint.
(The device isn't fully supported in yet so we'll see....)

Is this device unlockable? and can you let us know how its done?
I should do the same for my Lumia 521 (T-Mobile) I picked it up for $34 at Target when the goofed up the price on their website
Apparently you can get it unlocked in ~60 hours....

Thought it would be good to pass on my experience.
Microsoft Store (online too, with free shipping) has the Lumia 520 on sale for $59. It is part of their 12 days of Christmas sales event and extended a month (12/13 to 1/12.) AND they just extended it into February.
So I ordered one. Went to the AT&T Store and picked up a SIM. The day it arrived I put the SIM in. One hour later I used their online Unlock Request Form (http://www.att.com/deviceunlock/) and 60 hours later received via email the Unlock Code (yes, the code unlocked it just fine.) Note that when you fill out the form, you need to put the IMEI number in first. If you put the phone number in first it errors out because the number has not been in service long enough to allow unlock.
The "rules" are an establish customer needs to have a 100% owned phone connected to the AT&T network for 60 days and for a pay-as-you-go customer the wait time is 6 months. Apparently because I bought directly from Microsoft who is buying Nokia (bought directly from the manufacturer) those times were waved. My phone had been connected to the AT&T network for less than 72 hours.
FYI, I am an established customer and added the SIM to an existing account. So someone else will have to try with a goPhone SIM and see if it works as well.

Today, Microsoft removed the "Message History" section from my Outlook account, so I can no longer use a well-known trick to view my sms history. I notice that in the WP8.1 emulator, I can now log in to my MS account and my sms history are synced to the emulator. I am trying to take advantage of this feature to retrieve the file that stores my sms from the emulator image.
So far, I have managed to merge the emulator snapshot with the base .vhd and mount the resulting virtual disk to view all the files. Hell, I can even decompile the stock apps to view their source code...However, I cannot find where my sms are stored. There is one suspicious folder that has modification time at the moment the sms are synced.
"K:\SharedData\Comms\Unistore\data" where K is the Data volume.
In this folder, I can find all my emails in plain text and a bunch of other files in binary/encrypted text. I hope the binary/encrypted files are not my sms. Anyone has any idea?
I got the answer to my own problem thanks to this post. http://resources.infosecinstitute.com/windows-phone-digital-forensics-2/
The name of the file is still store.vol but it is in another location compared to WP7.5. You can find it in Data\Users\WPCOMMSSERVICES\APPDATA\Local\Unistore . If you want to follow my steps and there are any questions, feel free to post below.
Edit: now I need to find a way to read this EDB database file, including the date and time the sms were sent.

Hmm, don't know but EDB Files are used on Exchange 2003 Servers.
I had a Software to open such files. But this piece of Software is really expensive.
When i'm in the Office I will look for the name of the Software.

that file is also the exchange database used in windows mobile. I heard the format is different for different purposes and MS has never provided the documentation for this format.

If you trust me an there is nothing important in this edb file you can Upload them to an Hoster/dropbox
and give me the Link so i will try to open the edb file.
thats the Software I use:
http://www.krollontrack.de/produkte-und-software/kostenlose-software/registrierung/
There is a possibilty to test them.
But we (my Company) have a full version with add ons. So I think there is a bigger chance.
EDB (on WP7, at least) was Embedded DataBase. The API for them is documented here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa914733.aspx
I know WP8 has some mobile DB APIs (even though it uses NT, not CE) although I haven't tried them at all. You could also try using the Mail API (MAPI) http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/cc842118(v=office.15).aspx for documentation.
There was a homebrew app on WP7 (hosted here on XDA) that extracted SMS for backup, because there wasn't an SMS backup feature. I don't know if it would be useful with WP8, even as a reference, though it may be worth checking to see if the source for it is available.

I created a throw away outlook account and send a test message from the emulator to phone number 555-555-5555 (Yes you can send it in the emulator even though that will never been sent). The content of the test message is "this is a test". With a hex editor, I have verified that the message existed in the store.vol file at address A0233. You can download the whole folder here https://www.mediafire.com/?4id993y8gnii3v9
This is the screenshot of the folder

Hi, thanks for helping. The first link is for windows mobile 6.5 CE so I'm not sure if it applies. I will check out the second link. I have also made a post in the thread about extracting WP7 SMS to ask for the source code.

Thanks for testing it though.
Edit: found this article about reverse-engineering Embedded Database. This looks like a NSA personnel's job...
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1742287612000874
Sorry, I should have been more clear: WP7 used CE internally, so the WM6.5 APIs worked on it. WP8 uses NT instead of CE, but has some of the embedded database APIs anyhow (because the code was imported straight from WP7, maybe?) so it might still work. You'd need to find the library with the relevant exports, though; that part of the documentation will be wrong for WP8.
