HTC Video IP Camera monitoring (software released)
Have you ever wanted to watch your IP cam with your WM phone ? We had the same issues a few years back. We internally needed to see different cameras , behind firewalls , multiple locations, password protected, corporate VPN's, PTZ etc. So we built it into a product that did more than just cameras, but it was for internal use only and is Patented and Trademarked.
We have finally received the official ok to release the camera only version. The geeks in our group finally get to help this community out.
This release will always have a free IP camera input. One to see your favorite pet cam, your child’s daycare center, your favorite beach cam, your home/office security IP cam etc. Download it here.

Please let us know if this helps you. Also which phones you had good success with or tested it with.
Thx

Thanks to Punkster for this ...
You need the latest 3.5 Compact Framework installed on the device. You can download it from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...49-3c6b-42f1-9fd9-0041345b3385&displaylang=en
and it has instruction on the page on how to install it. Basically connect your device to ActiveSync, and then run the .msi that you download.

thats useful,
If you are looking for cameras to test on, you can visit:
http://www.opentopia.com/hiddencam.php
The easiest way to find out the address is right clicking on the video that you want and select properties. If it is a supported camera (Axis or Panasonic) you only need to enter the IP address or DNS name, otherwise enter the full URL to the image location.
If you are having problems adding a camera, be sure to read the README in the zip or the installation directory.

I believe this issue has been fixed. There was an issue with JPEGs that were around 640x480 or larger which caused an issue with the buffer, but this has since been fixed with JPEG streams. I tried to PM you to let you know and see if it worked before I posted it here, but from my testing on the JPEG streams the only ones I couldn't get were larger images, and that was a buffer issue. So if you could re-download it and re-install it hopefully it will work for you now.
Hope everyone else is enjoying the program.

This message is not saying that you don't have the CF 3.5 installed (otherwise the application won't run), instead it is saying that this error message that occurred is not in the CF so can't be displayed. I sent you a PM so that we can try and figure out what is happening.

I just tried this camera and it works for me. If you are doing a camera type that is a supported camera, do not enter in the full path to the image file. Here is my settings on the configuration screen:

Please let me know if this works for you, if not, it may have been something that we fixed during one of our enhancements that has not been released yet.

I installed a Linksys Webcam at my business. It uses ActiveX controls in IE. All I have to do is type in the IP address, and presto I can see a Linksys screen with camera motion contols. When I try it with my Kaiser, I get the Linksys control screen but cannot see the live feed.
I've heard that some are using TCPMP but I cannot get around the login. Also, even if TCPMP worked, I most likely could not control the camera.
Is there an ActiveX add on that works with PIE? Has anyone had any success with similar venture. It would be way cool to check on business or home via your phone.

I did a little searching. As far as I can find there is no way to effectively handle activeX with PIE.
I did find a application that claims it can run IP cameras over winmo.
View Commander-Mobile lets you view IP network cameras with a Pocket PC or Smartphone. Control Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera functions with ViewCommander's built-in control panel.
This unfortunately is not a free app.
However it does have a trial if you wanna check it out.

EDIT: have you tried the newest version of opera? I can view alot of things in opera that PIE wont load. You might also send a pm to the guy that made the newest version of TCPMP and youtubeplayer. He may have some additional ideas. He has some posts in development and hacking forum. His username is milesmowbray

Thanks for the link. I downloaded the trial verision. It appears to work but I'll have to wait until someone turns the lights on in the shop to see anything.
I have tried the Beta Version of Opera 9 on my Blue Angel. It is very interesting. I'll follow your recommendations and PM the TCPMP guy.
Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I spent a few hours searching before posting and did not find the software you linked me to.

This thread probably belongs in the General forum....
Strangely Windows Mobile doesn't support ActiveX, at least not up to this point (WM 6.1). And since ActiveX is a MS thing I doubt you'd find support in Opera, Minimo, or other browsers that render web pages directly on the WM device. You have three possible options (maybe more if your smarter than me!).
If you make any breakthrough's please post your results for the enlightenment of others who may be trying to accomplish the same thing. Good luck!
First option: use a browser like Skyfire that is client / server based, which will handle all the ActiveX on the server side and pipe the results back to you on the client side as a "moving picture". I've tested it on my Toshiba IK-WB11A wireless IP webcam and it works swimmingly. My webcam uses Java rather than ActiveX, so your mileage may vary. It should work though.
Second option: pick apart the HTML / Javascript / ActiveX code in your webcam, find out where and how it's dishing out the video stream, and point PIE directly to the JPG or similar stream. Basically your webcam is running a simple little web server that's streaming a series of refreshed JPG's (or possibly an MPG4 stream if your webcam is very new). So it's possible to view the HTML code being served up to your browser with very little effort. For example I was able to do that by loading up and opening all the HTML pages that my webcam served to my PC browser (Firefox > View > Page Source). I can see that the webcam video stream is really just a JPG that's being frequently refreshed from this address... http://my-wan-ip/__live.jpg. Now if I point PIE at this address from my WM phone I've got the image from my webcam, less all the user interface, controls, and other trappings. The same process might work with your ActiveX webcam. If you're really enterprising you could create your own simple HTML page and run it on your phone. Just add your path the JPG image, and add some code so PIE will auto-refresh. Something like this code should do the trick... <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="10;url=http://path/to/my/image/page.html"/>
Third option: use a WM application like the one linked above (IVI ViewCommander Mobile) that will attempt to do the heavy lifting in option #2 for you. There are others out there, like this for example that's free.
Hotmail thanks. I agree, this thread should probably be in the Development and Hacking section. It is a very good topic though.
As a side note, MS is working on a new PIE which has something called Lite or Lightning or something like that thatwill allow the browser to do just about everything IE does.
I'll also try your suggestions.

Rick, there are three parts to the problem:
1. Does PIE support meta-refreshes? Try loading the paypal page I sent you. If that works, good. If not, give up now.
2. Next, understand, there is an image, http://192.168.1.100/still.jpg
This doesn't do anything, it's just an image that needs refreshing. So to do that, we need a webpage, rick.html, that causes itself to reload itself every second.
The only thing on that page is the code to redirect itself every second, and the image http://192.168.1.100/still.jpg
3. What this means is that you load http://www.ricksserver.com/rick.html
This will show the picture for 1 second, and then reload http://www.ricksserver.com/rick.html
The most important line is:
<meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="1;url=http://www.ricksserver.com/rick.html">
This part, url=http://www.ricksserver.com/rick.html
must point to the file rick.html (or whatever you call it), and that must be accessible from the internet.
So write rick.html, upload it to an ftp or make it externally accessible from your pc.
I think that still sounds tough though!
I didn't quite understand everything, but think of it like this:
You have to write the html, and put it on a server somewhere. Even if that server is your own computer, it must be accesible through a url.
So say I have the file at
www.ricksserver.com/rick.html
Now, I edit rick.html to say:
Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<head>
<title>www.vijay555.com</title>
<meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="1;url=http://www.ricksserver.com/rick.html">

<body style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: rgb(198, 221, 244);" alink="#000000" link="#000000"

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
</body>
</html>Save this as rick.html and save on a server or your pc.
The thing you did wrong is you're linking the refresh part to the JPG. The jpg will load after one second, and then do nothing.
You need to link it back to rick.html itself, so that it will reload and refresh itself every second.
The thing is, PIE may not be able to redirects at all.
Try loading this page:
http://www.vijay555.com/donate.html
this should redirect to my paypal page. If this works in PIE, then try writing rick.html.
But PIE may not support redirects like this, I've never tried it...
Something like this:
Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<head>
<title>www.vijay555.com</title>
<meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="1;url=http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2005/20051012l.jpg">
</head>
<body style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: rgb(198, 221, 244);" alink="#000000" link="#000000"
vlink="#000000">
</body>
</html>In the line:
<meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="1;url=http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2005/20051012l.jpg">
insert the url of the page you want to jump to. The 1, means every second.
In this instance, you might want to host this page on your server, and then change the address in the line <meta http-equiv="REFRESH" to point to itself, so it reloads itself every second.
Hope that's clear!
This is what vjay gave me for an answer

You may find 1 second is too fast. Seems counter intuitive since you want to see video-like motion on the webcam. PIE is just a little too slow to manage refreshing a page every second. I found 5 to 10 seconds is about as fast as PIE can consistently refresh. Your experience may vary depending on page / image size, your connection speed, etc. Here's an example I made some time ago for checking traffic on my route to and from work. Works just fine in PIE. Looks even better when viewed in the latest version of Opera.
rickos said:

It's not too bad. And if you want the easy route just type the address of the webcam's image into PIE's address bar. Then every few seconds just click refresh... no HTML involved with that, no making your own web page, no FTP, etc....

See post #4 in this thread. Those are your options. As to how (and if you can), it depends on your web cam model.
thanks lets see what i can gather
this is a semi-off topic question, i also have an ip camera but it uses quicktime to view it remotely using a web server. ive tried opera, and pie but it won't open the url. i tried iris browser, which actually opens up the url, but it doesn't seem to have the quicktime plugin so i can only see the camera controls but not the video feed itself.
I have a D-Link webcam and it supports RSTP streaming. With that, you can use CorePlayer to view it. The only problem is you cannot control the camera motion as this is available only in the ActiveX (something you already know).
Cheers.

Coreplayer will play quicktime and stream. So if you know the url to the video stream itself you may be able to watch it with Coreplayer.

Not sure if you can use a user name / password with Core Player. I don't think you can. But you may not need to depending on the stream type, and how your webcam authenticates you. I guess if it authenticates by IP or something basic like that, you might be able authenticate using PIE, and then connect using Core Player. But in my case, I don't need to authenticate, even though my Webcam will force authentication if I access it by going to it's home page. I can get around it by directly pointing my browser to the stream.
For example, if I go to http://192.168.0.109:100 then my webcam will attempt to authenticate me. But after I authenticate (from a desktop browser) I begin to get the webcam stream from http://192.168.0.109:100/__live.jpg?&&Ym9ibw==&dHVsZnMx. Then if I point my browser, or Core Player, on my phone to that authenticated URL I get the stream.
Your mileage may vary, depending on the type of webcam, type of authentication, and the stream type.
same problem with the username and password thingy. i can't get pass it in pie.
If your webcam is Java based like mine, I may be able to help get around a user ID and password prompt. But if it's ActiveX then I'm not too sure. I know PIE doesn't support ActiveX.
For me it wasn't necessary. But in the past I've used URL Snooper to sniff out multimedia streams hidden within ActiveX and Java. You may find some success by viewing your webcam (from your PC's browser) and running this program. If the stream address is always the same after disconnecting / reconnecting to your webcam then you may be able to use that URL from your phone's browser.
That's exactly how my webcam works. If I change the logon ID and password of my webcam, then stream address changes. But if it's the same, then stream address is always the same... a long series of alpha/numberic characters, presumably based on the ID and password required for accessing the webcam.
I ended up using a software program called View Commander. Here's the link to their website: http://www.ivimg.com/products/vcmobile.htm I bought the mid-range package for about USD45.00.
I'm using it with several Linksys WVC200 cameras which can rotate and zoom via remote control. The ivi View Commander software works really well. It can be set up for multiple cameras and have multiple presets. It's really easy to set up.
I really love using my HTC Kaiser to check up on my employees when I'm not around. It's one of the best tools I've used.
thank you HOTMAIL !

Holy crap... I guess I really didn't understand what was going on as I stated in this thread, I had already been doing this kind of stuff using GoGadgets! from another developer. But now I get that its official from MS. They even took the EXACT SAME software that Ikanos Consulting created... sheesh.
Thanks for the video, I always thought that GoGadgets was cool stuff.
Hope this brings more light into this awesomeness.
I have already uninstalled it because I only care about anything "Media Center" SideShow. Haven't found one and haven't really looked for one as of late.
The T-Mo Wing is seriously underpowered but I was actually getting along rather smooth. Also using Bluetooth as the connection is sorta useless if you walk out of range. Which is not too far in my house. Connecting was fast and simple after the initial setup. The today plugin thing is nice but again sorta useless. I really expected it to have controls right there so you wouldn't have to navigate so many pages.
I know I am critical and this is the official first release and it is not even a finished product just a developers release. But it has potential.
very, very, very COOL!

I went through a bit of a headache getting mine to work. Maybe I can help. I just need you to write in a more coherent manner.
I had a few issues too. If I installed the PPC component before pairing, the PC would not locate and install the appropriate drivers. If I paired first, then enabled the SideShow BT service, the PC would locate and install the drivers just fine. I tried this several times, and that was the only way that worked for me. Weird. YMMV.
It's annoying that all the fancy new software is made for Vista.

1. It doesn't REALLY matter if you're using MS STACK or TOSHIBA STACK as long as there is a sideshow service detected.
A. if you have toshiba stack:
right click on the bluetooth tray icon and open the bluetooth devices.
add a new one and detect the service MANUALLY (choose CUSTOM).
if you see a service called "...sideshow..." on the list, you can use it. it is mostly UNprobable that you will.
connect to your device
continue to section C
B. if you have ms stack:
right click on the tray icon.
click options.
add a new device.
pair it using your own passkey.
open the options once more and you see your device in the Devices window.
click on it and click properties.
go to services and, if you installed sideshow on your device, and ran it, you should see Sideshow in the list.. as well as Activesync and a few others maybe.
click ok and it'll try to connect to your device.
(if you can't connect, go to COM ports in OPTIONS And install a new one. i used COM port 3..)
C. go to control panel, go to sideshow, and you should be able to mark V on the gadgets you'd like to use.
2. MS stack: double click the provided file. install it and read the TXT that appears on your desktop for further instructions...
TOSHIBA stack: just install the stack..
make sure you uninstall each before installing the other.
these are both the LATEST versions of both stacks: (up until the day of posting this message of course )
TOSHIBA STACK:
http://rapidshare.com/files/120186967/TOSHIBA_BTSTACK.zip.html
MS STACK:
http://rapidshare.com/files/120187911/MS_BTSTACK.exe.html
i strongly suggest you keep both files on your comp as a cover for any services one might provide while the other doesn't.
for instance, to my knowledge, MS stack works HORRIBLY with Async...
while TOSHIBA stack doesn't work with sideshow at all. (at least from what i've experienced)
enjoy
Go Gadget
Has anyone got the Go Gadget Beta?
I would really like to try it.
I have tried Microsofts version, but I have heard that Go Gadget supports Home Automation.
Can it work via USB ?

When entering .txt adress in browser I got "Your order is Being Prcessed" ..."you will receive an email with a link to download at the email adress you entered during payment"???? What e-mail and what payment???
OK, i am uploading the files on my server.
I tried to attach them to my post, but xda-developers doesn't allow files with size>2MB.

Very nice game... works very nice on a QVGA screen in normal mode. When you switch to landscape... doesn't look very good. Also, it would be nice to be able to input letters with my Tilt keyboard while in landscape mode. Other than that, I think the game is great. Good work.
Thanks. Looks nice.

Is there one for XP Professional by any chance?
Is there a more detailed step by step on how to set this up? Would I be able to remote access the computer via internet if I am away from home?

i think if you are accessing away from home the difficulty is not in setting Remote Desktop. it will be setting up your router and firewall to properly forward the ports. try start with the LAN (within your home) first.
XP/vista:
1. has to be XP Pro or Vista Business/Ultimate. the "Home" versions won't work
2. Right click, My computers->properties->Remote-> SELECT "Allow user to connect remotely to this computer", this option is under Remote Desktop Section, NOT Remote Assistance.
3. (many ways to do this step, this is only one of them) Start->Run->type "cmd"->type "ipconfig"-> obtains your computer's IP address
4. Moving over to HD, launch Remote Desktop (Mobile), in computer name/ip address, you can type in the IP address you just obtained. ALTERNATIVELY, you can type in your computer name (ie. Buggybug0). To obtain your computer name, go to your computer, right click, My Computer->Properties->Computer Name -> Look under "Full Computer Name"
5. In HD's Remote Desktop Mobile, go to Options, adjust the settings they are pretty intuitive.
6. if your desktop/laptop, have passwords, enter them in the RDP Mobile, if you don't, it's okay, it will prompt you. In most cases, you do not need a domain name. In corner cases, you do, but rare, post here if you suspect this is cause a problem, i don't want to confuse everyone.
7. if you want to use RDP mobile in full screen, I recommend mapping one of the buttons to "left soft key" or "right soft key" or "bring up keyboard" so you can exit full screen and use the on-screen keyboard to type. Maping keys is done in (on HD): Start->settings->buttons.
I need help on this aswell. I have tried various things. Under my computer - properties- remote i have checked both boxes. I have included remote desktop to the exceptions of the windows firewall. Opened port 3389 and checked if they were actually open using www.canyouseeme.org. Then i connected my HD to my wireless network, launched RDM. And filled this in (screenshot 1) this is my network IP
I also tried filling in my ip i get when go to www.whatismyip.com but then i get this screen: (screenshot 2)
It will say connecting for 2 seconds and then switch back to this screen saying not connected. I think i have everything set up correctly, but it still doesnt work
i enter my IP and get to a windows xp logon screen which needs a username and password.
I have no password on my machine so what the hell.
nevermind i found the solution, the machine requires a password to make it work.
I use GoToMyPC on the Touch Hd which works great and is really easy to set up. You have to install the app via PIE instead of Opera though.
wow how easy you sound, BUT you didnt answer the MAIN question ... TUTORIAL ...
I want to use remote desktop like this / pc - internet conection - touch hd/
1. what to do with my pc /on my pc/?
2. do i need to install server?
3. Is there a website like ovi.com for nokia similar for touch hd?
4. Do i have to pay for public ip adress?
HOW DO I DO IT?
I cant get it to work despite following this tutorial and the one from pocketnow on youtube. Is it because I have Vista Home Premium? But if so then why are the remote desktop options in vista if it is not compatible as mentioned in post 5?

I'm guessing it's solved but some points just in case anyone else reads this
the address you use is a 192.168.x.y address this is for private networks
so you'd have to use wifi on the local network , in which case the firwall is probably irrelevant. If, on the other hand you are on some external network (3g etc) the you would go via the firewall (use it's external address as the target) and as well as enabling remote connections to the PC you need to do three things
1. open the ports (which you did)
2. set up forwarding to your target pc, otherwise you are rdp-ing to the firewall itself
3. and make sure the account you use has a password

Well, there are lots of possibilities.
It is correct that Vista Home Premium does NOT support Remote Desktop, only "Remote Assistance" which is not the same. One of the reasons for me keeping the ole XP Pro
For a free solution You can install VNC server (i.e. UltraVNC, TightVNC) on the PC and then use VNC client/viewer on the PPC (i.e http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=128549&package_id=140792&release_id=503186 , or http://www.mochasoft.dk/vncce.htm#touch (commercial) )
But, please, do take security seriously !!!!!!!! You can use zaTunnel for encrypted tunnel between PPC and PC (or between the PPC and your home router if it has SSHD server and then portforward VNC session to PC). See here: http://www.zatelnet.com/zatunnel/zatunneldoc.php
If all this sounds unfamiliar, then ... prepare for a LONG reading.
OR you might check this service (I being a paranoid, do not like/trust services like this!):
https://secure.logmein.com/products/free/features.asp?lang=uk
For sure you'll have to read these:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com:80/i...SMobiles: Terminal Service Client for Mobiles
http://wiki.xda-developers.com:80/index.php?pagename=Access your desktop PC from your Pocket PC!

HARDWARE COMPASS IN ALL HTC DEVICES WITH THE AK8976A CHIP?!?!
As said by some (tuxhero for example => here) ,the Touch HD has a real hardware compass inside waiting to be activated by some clever dev.
If you are such a dev here is some bounty for you as a little encuragement.
Goal:
Build a little proof of concept application (for winmo) and open the sources for all xda devs.
As for the bounty:
050$ Draque:the_Plaque
050$ maati + additionl 100$ if it works in google maps. (But only if released before the HTC Leo
050$ tids2k
050$ LC40
--------------------
200$
reserved for more
It's nice but i am not sure. Please don't go on my words. Some one said that me and i said it to you. No real Proofs.
i thought the new Samsung OmniaII/pro was the only WM devices that has hardware for a digital compass

what other devices has this
it might be worthwhile to extract the compass application from the omnia2 rom dump for testing purposes
Is this screen from the omnia2 or pro?
And is this a test app from microsoft?
It doesn't work on my HTC Touch HD.
Hi, there is a test app that comes with the HTC Debug Tools set for this compass, some time ago I analyzed it and determined that it was likely present in the hardware, but I have never gotten it to function on my Raphael.
Lacking an HD device to test with, I can't say if it works there, but I can provide the app I will attach it shortly.
About the AK7986A sensor.
In the test application under help:
AKEMD 2007 (name and year is viewed)

The app is not signed.
Da_G, i just tried on my HD the soft you shared to us;
-open and close seem to be ok but nothing happens
if you choose to re-open without closing before it will give this logical error:board already connected.
edit:
-init, start and stop give this logical error without open : board not found
-init, start and stop give this logical error with open : board already connected
So the soft is probably ok but for our HD we need to use the good input/output in the dll

You have to copy the DDLs to Windows folder. However, "init" or "start" from the menu only brings up an error message "The board is not connected". Some graphical glitches as well ... seems to be made for QVGA.
So with a small possibility that Layar (3.0 ?) will come to Windows Mobile based phones, we really need a working compass for that to work.
Anyone still working on this? Would be a great addition for all our HTC devices!
Ps. For those who don't know Layar yet; it's an Augmented Reality app for Android and soon iPhone 3.0. Go visit http://layar.eu/ and think of trading WM for Android .

Same happens on a Rhodium, would be very nice to have it working.
It needs a device called ECS1:, this driver is not present on Touch HD.
Maybe first we should check if any of new WM devices actually have AKM chip inside?
Does Windows Mobile provide any kind of a compass API? How difficult would it be to write a program like Layar or Wikitude or build compass support into Google Maps?
I'm thinking about buying an Omnia II or waiting for the HTC Leo, both should probably have the compass hardware, but how about any apps that use the compass? How long do you think it will take until we see an augmented reality apps for Windows Mobile?
Does anyone know which compass is used in the htc polaris?
Ar are the cab files for the polaris hw compass available by chance?
btw: if anyone wants to raise the bounty for this project just pm me or write it directly into the thread.
I did some more research into this, I am working with a driver for this for raph right now..
Let's see what I can come up with
