Hi everyone
Just noticed that microsoft have released a preview beta of Sideshow for Windows Mobile (5/6)

I think there's a few neat functions mentioned: controlling WMP, viewing/controlling powerpoint presentations etc
p.s. someone should post this as a forum attachment without needing to go through microsoft download centre

Holy crap... I guess I really didn't understand what was going on as I stated in this thread, I had already been doing this kind of stuff using GoGadgets! from another developer. But now I get that its official from MS. They even took the EXACT SAME software that Ikanos Consulting created... sheesh.
Thanks for the video, I always thought that GoGadgets was cool stuff.
Hope this brings more light into this awesomeness.
I have already uninstalled it because I only care about anything "Media Center" SideShow. Haven't found one and haven't really looked for one as of late.
The T-Mo Wing is seriously underpowered but I was actually getting along rather smooth. Also using Bluetooth as the connection is sorta useless if you walk out of range. Which is not too far in my house. Connecting was fast and simple after the initial setup. The today plugin thing is nice but again sorta useless. I really expected it to have controls right there so you wouldn't have to navigate so many pages.
I know I am critical and this is the official first release and it is not even a finished product just a developers release. But it has potential.
very, very, very COOL!

Yes, it seemed quite quick on your youtube link
An alternative is the old Salling Clicker
It supports wifi and bluetooth and WinXP. Also supports itunes and WMP

Microsoft Bluetooth Stack.
If you have XP SP2 or higher its built in but if you use a 3rd party Stack like from toshiba etc. you might have trouble. you have to figure out what stack you have...

I went through a bit of a headache getting mine to work. Maybe I can help. I just need you to write in a more coherent manner.
I had a few issues too. If I installed the PPC component before pairing, the PC would not locate and install the appropriate drivers. If I paired first, then enabled the SideShow BT service, the PC would locate and install the drivers just fine. I tried this several times, and that was the only way that worked for me. Weird. YMMV.
It's annoying that all the fancy new software is made for Vista.

Alright. so a little batch of detailed insturctions about using this:
(during the process make sure your device is DISCOVERABLE)
1. It doesn't REALLY matter if you're using MS STACK or TOSHIBA STACK as long as there is a sideshow service detected.
A. if you have toshiba stack:
right click on the bluetooth tray icon and open the bluetooth devices.
add a new one and detect the service MANUALLY (choose CUSTOM).
if you see a service called "...sideshow..." on the list, you can use it. it is mostly UNprobable that you will.
connect to your device
continue to section C
B. if you have ms stack:
right click on the tray icon.
click options.
add a new device.
pair it using your own passkey.
open the options once more and you see your device in the Devices window.
click on it and click properties.
go to services and, if you installed sideshow on your device, and ran it, you should see Sideshow in the list.. as well as Activesync and a few others maybe.
click ok and it'll try to connect to your device.
(if you can't connect, go to COM ports in OPTIONS And install a new one. i used COM port 3..)
C. go to control panel, go to sideshow, and you should be able to mark V on the gadgets you'd like to use.
2. MS stack: double click the provided file. install it and read the TXT that appears on your desktop for further instructions...
TOSHIBA stack: just install the stack..
make sure you uninstall each before installing the other.
these are both the LATEST versions of both stacks: (up until the day of posting this message of course )
TOSHIBA STACK:
http://rapidshare.com/files/120186967/TOSHIBA_BTSTACK.zip.html
MS STACK:
http://rapidshare.com/files/120187911/MS_BTSTACK.exe.html
i strongly suggest you keep both files on your comp as a cover for any services one might provide while the other doesn't.
for instance, to my knowledge, MS stack works HORRIBLY with Async...
while TOSHIBA stack doesn't work with sideshow at all. (at least from what i've experienced)
enjoy

Has anyone got the Go Gadget Beta?

I have tried Microsofts version, but I have heard that Go Gadget supports Home Automation.
Can it work via USB ?

Hi Folks,
I created a simple bluetooth scanner for my universal. In fact it "should" run on every device which
a) is = or > PPC2003 (inkl. WM5)
b) has the MS bt-stack running
It'ss nothing big and I'm sure some people are missing features like saving the scan results or bluejacking and so on. But hey, it's my first c++ program and in addition my first program for PPC.
I will add features (like the above mentioned) WHEN I have time to do so.
Now to the program itself:
It's simple, start it and press "SCAN". After some devices have been found you can start an SDP query by pressing (you guess it ) "SDP"
In the device list: COD means "Class of Device" (see bluetooth specification for more info).
In the output window, when the sdp services are liste, "ChId" means Channel ID, which is the RFCOMM Channel the service is listening on.
The programm works in landscape mode. I will all some code for switching between landscape and portrait later.
However, I'm not sure if someone finds this usefull. If so -> Enjoy, it's free. If not -> delete it...
Comments are welcome...
Cheers
EDIT 01/25/2006:
Homepage is located at: http://www.silentservices.de/btCrawler.html
v0.3
- Added some service classes in the scan engine (A2DP, A2Sink, A2SRC, SAP)
- Added "SelfDiag" button to check what services the own device provides
- Added support for Smartphone with Windows Mobile 5, SP2003, SP2003SE
- Added a menu to better support navigation in Smartphones
EDIT 01/12/2006:
attached you will find an updated version of btCrawler.
Changes in v0.2 are as follows:
- One program for PPC2003/SE/WM5
- Support for portrait AND landscape mode
- Detection of screen orientation at startup
- GUI changes
- Class of Device (CoD) is now "human readable"
Limitations:
- Rezising of the GUI due to display orientation change is not working. You have to change to your preferred display orientation before starting btCrawler.

thanks for the hint and the welcome
I've put up some screenshots in thefirst post.
Regarding BJ, yes I had that on my P900 too. It was kinda fun in some situations.

Out of interest, what do you guys use for screenshots?
Cheers,

Can you release the source code? I very interessted in programming such things... I want to know how i can use bluetooth i my own applications.
What IDE do you use to Code?
society: what are you intending to do with bluetooth?
If you're intending to use bluetooth for anything particularly useful, typically you need to investigate bluetooth comms or obex. Scanning is a discrete aspect of using bluetooth devices.

Well, don't get me wrong, but I wont release the source code. There are several reasons...Don't take it personal.
1.) btCrawler is only a small part of a bluetooth pen-testing utility I am currently writing. When you get the source code, you will probably learn how to hack into mobile phones. And as you may understand, I won't teach people how to hack into other devices.
2.) Writing this tool was damn hard work for me, because I've never touched C++ before. So it was just learning to code by reading other code.
But there is one book I can recommend to you:
Programming Microsoft Windows CE .NET, Third Edition
by Douglas Boling ISBN:0735618844
I'm using MS VC++ as IDE.
Cheers
society: I don't know what you're experience is, but if you're intersted in learning to code, you might find this post helpful.
And I think the best way to learn to code, is to learn to code I'm fighting every night with the books, trying to learn this stuff, loving and hating every minute!

Does it handle VGA ok? The freeware one I tried (I forget the name) seemed to assume that my screen was only 320x240, and so the resultant bitmap looked like it had been shrunk.
Cheers,

Its not a problem.... i just want to see an example how to work with the Bluetooh API. But google is my friend you know.
Not free, but the software I use for capturing screens for user manuals is that included with Resco's Picture Viewer. Handles Universal's screen in both orientations and even OzVGA.

Not sure if it's intended, but I couldn't get it to find my Jabra BT500 headset - yes, it was correctly paired, or is that the reason for it not being discovered? It did, however, correctly find my Holux GPSlim236 GPS receiver. The problem applies to both versions posted.
I'll try tomorrow with the laptop, but that was found correctly with the first version.

I dont know. AFAIK you have to explicity query for it. Thus you would need a tool which automagically querys for the bluetooth name of the remote device when your device gets a file...I'm sorry but such a function will not fit in a scanning software like mine.
Cheers.
Here's my first attempt at pocketpc development -- an MPD client. It's a fairly niche application, but maybe someone else out there will enjoy it.
First off, you'll need an MPD server. MPD is a small simple daemon that plays music. It has no UI of its own-- it relies on various clients to connect to it for control.
My application does not actually play music. It's more like a remote control. It connects to your MPD server and tells it what to play. But if you combine this with icecast on the server and TCPMP on your phone, you CAN actually stream the music to your phone. The effect for me is having my entire 80G+ music collection available to my phone anywhere I have EVDO access.
If you've made it that far, here's a few features my client offers:
Automatic album art from Amazon
A today screen plugin showing the current song
Gestures for easy control
Kinetic scrolling lists
Here's a short youtube demonstration of some of the UI elements.
The application requires Windows Mobile Professional with the .NET 2.0 framework. It's available from http://code.google.com/p/pocketpcmpdclient/.
Special thanks to dosfan and gingercat from this thread. I used a lot of their code for kinetic scrolling in my lists.

THis looks incredibly intruiging...of course now I have to go fiddle with my server and set up the MPD/Icecast bit, but it seems worth it to have something like this working...I will get back to you this weekend after i figure all this stuff out. Also this is quite cool for a first program!
That looks great! I particularly love the gestures! Any chance of implementing them in a non MPD dependant music player?
Thanks for the encouragement. This has just been a "hobby" project for me to work on over the weekends for a while now. I usually write boring framework code without any GUI for my day job, so this has been a lot of fun.
As for the gestures, it's written in c# and I wrote it to be easy to add to other projects. Just declare an instance of the class within your form (or usercontrol) and tell the class what it's parent is. Then the class will raise events whenever a gesture is recognized.
So if someone wants to steal my code like I stole dosfan and gingercat's, help themselves! And if they have any improvements, let me know

Hobby projects are fun!
Not sure if you've implemented something like this, but in dosfan and gingercat's dll, there was no support for hardware buttons. I've added that today, and can give you the code if you want.
Being able to capture gestures would be awesome!
Keep up this project! And lemme set up an MPD!
Oh yeah, using hardware buttons on the lists was on my "To-Do" list. I'd be interested in seeing what you did.

Basically, I added some keypress even handlers, and then made those do the same as moving the mouse. I also had to edit the MaxXOffset and MaxYOffset to allow the list items to get to the top of the page...
Attached is the code for the KListControl dll.
If my lack of comments needs some explaining, do ask!
It seems pretty straightforward. Thanks.

Sorry, I don't think there's a good, simple way to run MPD on a windows server. From the MPD wiki, it looks like the only real working option is to run it under coLinux or andLinux.
It's another reason I said it's a bit of a "niche" application
don't know if this is related but, how about a remote control for UPnP clients, like roku, etc.
on Nokian770 and n800, there is a program called media streamer that does just that. wondering if there is the same for ppc.
I've thought a bit about abstracting away the music "engine" and using plugins to allow the UI to interact with different backends like MPD, windows media, or others. But for a guy who's working on this an hour a night after putting the kids to bed, that seems pretty ambitious
Awesome project. I have MPD setup on my desktop, and usually I'd just carry around my IR remote and control it via that, but controlling it with my phone over wifi is so much better!
Just installed it and I must say for a hobby project it's pretty nice! It just crashed on me, but I think that might be due to me not being able to scroll correctly

I'm sorry about the crash . If it happens again, could you open an issue containing the detailed text from the crash? It would help me to hunt down the issues.
Lately the only crashes I've had is when my data connection cuts out. The MPD library I used doesn't handle that very well. I really need to find an elegant way to tell the user the connection was lost.

Crude but functional!
I used to do the same using Shoutcast in combination with Jetcast to stream WMA. Then control the server using Cygnus.
also very niche, but it proves there's people that might like this.
Your program has inspired me to take an old computer outta the closet, put ubuntu on it, mirror my music collection, and install the icecast, mpd, and gimmix packages. I'm pretty new at this, so I was wondering... if you have the time, do you think you could write up a quick guide where to go next? I'm kind of at a loss...
I'd start just getting mpd to recognize your music and output to the soundcard or something. Setting up icecast is another layer of complexity to tackle next.
The best resource seems to be the wiki . If you have any specific problems I'll try to help.
Great project...
I submitted it to Digg, maybe it will get some love. It's time to rectify the overblown iPhone hype machine and show people what WinMo can do.
Very nice work!
I was thinking, why not doing it compatible also with uPnP (very similar to bonjour protocol), which is compatible with Windows (see www.tversity.com).
Thanks and keep up the good work
Hi all,
I was looking at the Remote Tracker app (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=394203) and realised that the odds of me remembering the necessary commands and their syntax when my phone gets lost/ stolen is pretty much nil.
So I wrote this (very quick) j2me application which should streamline things a bit. I'm including the source code of the app (although it needs a bit of cleaning up).
To use it, install it on any J2ME device that supports JSR120. That is the Wireless Messaging API which allows a J2ME application to send an SMS. The device must also support MIDP-2.0/CLDC-1.1.
Notes
Keep in mind that the SMSs send from this app will not show up in your phone’s sent items folder. You will be charged normally for them of course.
There is only one caveat when using the app: The phone number in the "Send message to:" text box needs to be in the international format (i.e. +44123123123) and it has to have a "+" not "00" (i.e. +44 and not 0044).
The app was built using Netbeans 6.5
Let me know if you find any bugs or want something changed or added.

Great job mate. I highly appreciate. But don't we require some emulator to run java apps on PPC? Do we need to run the emulator to activate this app. Although it may be great for nokia devices.
Actually I'm not sure about WM phones.
My phone, a Kaiser, has a J2ME environment in its ROM (esmertec's Jbed).
I'm assuming that other do as well, although not necessarily Jbed and not necesarily all of them.
Copy the jar/jad files to your PPC and try running them.
If you still have an XDA Atom, according to this page (http://www.mwg.com/xda-atom-life_applications.aspx) it has J2ME preinstalled. Not sure about your current ROM though.

If a device has a J2ME environment which supports MIDP-2.0/CLDC-1.1 and JSR 120, then it should work irrespectively of the actual OS.
I've also found this (incomplete) list of phones and the J2ME environments they come with: http://www.club-java.com/TastePhone/J2ME/MIDP_mobile.jsp - It doesnt say anything about JSR120 though.
If in doubt just try it. The worst thing that will happen is that the app will not load or that you will get an error message when sending.
Actually, the project should directly compile against CLDC-1.0. I'm pretty sure that I'm not using any of the 1.1 features. I'll do that for the next version.
Hi! I added your software for download in RT main site. Take a look:

Actually, the project should directly compile against CLDC-1.0. I'm pretty sure that I'm not using any of the 1.1 features. I'll do that for the next version.

Good, I'll add it in the code and uploaded in the next couple of days. I'm on a flaky dial-up at the moment, so I can't guarantee a speedy upload

Don't worry. Just take a note and when you fix your internet again you make the modification.
Cheers,

Just came back from vacations
The new version should be up later tonight.
OK, v0.2 is up.
Changes:
I've compiled it against CLDC-1.0 so it should work older phones which have MIDP2.0 installed.
Added support for the GANFL command.
The DL is at the first post.

Hi Alt
Your application runs excellent in the other mobile platform... also the specification and other details of the phone which you gave is very informative....
I own a Sony Ericsson phone and also Nokia 6080 phone apart from HTC S620. I have already have Anti Theft protection in my HTC but not in the other phones... Are there any Anti Theft software which can run like the excellent JRTremote which you develop, and can work on any phone with independent platforms... It would be great help.. Thanks..
Can you please, release an updated version of the program(there were some new commands added and other changes..)
Thanks
Hello, Can you add the rt2# option to send commands to HTC HD2.
Thanks.

Hi all,
BSODroid is my first Android application. It is a proof of concept implementation of a flaw in Windows Vista, which is so far unpatched (although Microsoft are due to start distributing the patch any moment now), that allows a user to send a Blue Screen of Death to that computer over the network.
To test your home, office or clients' machines, or even just to have some fun with your friends, all you need to do is connect to their network via WiFi, enter in their hostname (either IP or actual hostname will work), and press Execute!
Note: the target Vista machine must have network file / printer sharing turned on (though most people have it turned on these days)
This is a fun little application I created yesterday and have been having playing with my friends' computers on their home network and showing them the Windows flaw.
Video of it in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIy_d94tDmQ
As I said, it will be patched soon, so anyone who has Windows Updates enabled will be immune to it within the next 72 hours or so.
BSODroid can be downloaded from the Android Market (just search for BSODroid!) or alternatively you can download the APK directly from my website: http://www.dereenigne.com/

From what I can tell, it works on most of the beta copies and some RC copies of Windows 7, but it doesn't work on the RTM version - what a shame!
Still, lots of fun!
Didn't work on my Win 7 RC machine. Maybe I'm up to date?
My boss and I just had some fun with one of our users on MO. (we are in TN)

Yeah, seems as though it works on some builds of Win 7, but not others.
It works on Win Server 2008 too.
I hope people are having their fun with it now, because Microsoft already have a patch in the works - I'm not sure if it's being pushed through Windows Updates yet, but if not then it will be quite soon!
Though, it will still always work on machines that don't run Windows Updates

A computer virus is a computer program that can copy itself and infect a computer without the permission or knowledge of the owner.

It's being installed by the user, so it's not a virus at all. I personally think this is a neat little proof of concept program, and would love to have a copy for my WinMo device. Besides, if these proof of concept exploits weren't created, the software companies wouldn't have a reason to patch/fix their software until somebody with more malicious intents came along and used it. Hope there's a port to WinMo soon.

why? there's ton's of stuff everyone at my office does that could be considered a 'virus' then...
even so, if you can do it from an android phone it's not a virus? somehow I don't understand that.
Quick video example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIy_d94tDmQ
Ha cool...
Could be fun to make a "one stop shop" for stuff like this.
There's the unpatched IIS flaw as well which is easy as hell to abuse.
Select exploit (or select all), select target ip (+port/username etc for stuff like an IIS exploit), execute (on an iis exploit that'd use default port, anonymous/anonymous).
Is there any interest in this? Think it could be rather interesting to code

I"d be highly interested in that.
Have almost broken 1000 downloads! (Currently at 950)
If anyone's interested, go ahead and give it a try from the market!
Thank you. Great app, worked with my windows vista sp2.
Thanks!! I'm dying for this kind of apps
If this had a way to find IP's in use on the network it would be perfect, or just a multicast mode. Go to starbucks and listen to everyone groan at the same time.
Hello everyone. I truly hope I can get some help. I have been looking for answers for about 2 days and I am at the end of my rope with this. I have an HTC LEO T-Mobile USA. I flashed a WP7 Rom to the phone from the XDA site (XBmod_Yuki) using Magldr v1.13. Everything works well. The issue is I downloaded the Toolkit for activation from one of the post here. It pretty much spells out everything to do to get it activated and running. I have Zune and Windows phone developer tools. I am running a 64 bit Windows 7 laptop. It simply will not recognize the HD2 with Windows 7. It brings up the yellow box with ( USB device not recognized ) everytime I try to plug it up to the laptop. Now yes I know there are a lot of possible solutions to this because like I said I have been looking at this for 2 days. I have done everything everyone else seems to have done and I just can't make it recognize the phone. Here is what I have done;
Simple uninstalled the unknown device and restarted the machine.
Used different USB cables and ports on the laptop.
Plugged it up to the old desktop upstairs that is running XP and got the same error.
Uninstalled WMDC and reinstalled it. Restarted.
Did something to the registry some person suggested.
I have tried so many things and I am just plain stuck. I think the WP7 seems really nice and has a smooth interface. I just can't get it activated for the simple reason that I can not connect it to my pc so that I can start the process of activating it. I sure hope someone here can look at this and see something I obviously missed. Thanks all for your help !
why you not simple ask Microsoft for Live activation code and enter manually without any tools?
btw... Win7 x64 sucks... too many problems
I guess thats a good question. I have been using Android for awhile now so I am new to how WP7 works. So you're saying I can just contact MS and get the code? I guess I was under the impression you had to do the whole tool kit thing from CRACING so the phone would act like an HD7. Then I could call and get the code. I guess I got that wrong? Also if I can't get Windows to recognize it, is there another way to get music on my HD2? Like a work around so I wouldn't need to worry with connecting it. It seems like WP7 is much more dependent on it's relationship with a PC than Android. Like I also have a CAB sender I guess I supposed to use to send CABs to the phone for updates. I guess I couldn't do that either if I can't get the PC to recognize the computer. This is so crazy, It's so suprising that this isn't just one of those "Aha" moments.
you need activation code to get Marketplace work and sync with Live account... you can use Zune (and sync media files) without Live ID code...
you something misunderstanding... this tool not crack your phone.... this tool is to simply "copy" live id from HD7 to HD2... all HD2 ROM's already have ID as HD7
also i recommend to use other full unlocked ROM and dont forget, Yuki ROM lock sdcards and you need to unlock it before change ROM

if you have local office of Microsoft you can try calling support phone for your country....
Update: Getting the key from MS was suprisingly easy. I really thank you for your help. I am still facing the issue of the pc not recognizing the phone. I even went up to my desktop which is on Win Vista home basic. It just doesn't work. I still can not download anything from the marketplace because the phone wants me to connect with ZUNE and do an update. I can't do that because I can not get the PC to recognize my phone. Any thoughts?

By chance do you use Cyberlink PowerDVD12? If you do and the helper agent is running in the processes (Power12*.*) your computer will not communicate with your device. I learned that a little while back.
Hope this helps

UPDATE: I've got it ! I went and bought a completely new USB cable at Target. Even though me and my wife both have HD's I thought I would try that and apparently that worked. I do indeed have the PowerDVD running process so that may attributed to some of the issue as well. Hopefully my experience will help some in the future. Now, to figure out why is the Bluetooth not working . . . LOL
