[ANDROID] BSODroid - BSOD any Vista machine on your network! - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi all,
BSODroid is my first Android application. It is a proof of concept implementation of a flaw in Windows Vista, which is so far unpatched (although Microsoft are due to start distributing the patch any moment now), that allows a user to send a Blue Screen of Death to that computer over the network.
To test your home, office or clients' machines, or even just to have some fun with your friends, all you need to do is connect to their network via WiFi, enter in their hostname (either IP or actual hostname will work), and press Execute!
Note: the target Vista machine must have network file / printer sharing turned on (though most people have it turned on these days)
This is a fun little application I created yesterday and have been having playing with my friends' computers on their home network and showing them the Windows flaw.
Video of it in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIy_d94tDmQ
As I said, it will be patched soon, so anyone who has Windows Updates enabled will be immune to it within the next 72 hours or so.
BSODroid can be downloaded from the Android Market (just search for BSODroid!) or alternatively you can download the APK directly from my website: http://www.dereenigne.com/

From what I can tell, it works on most of the beta copies and some RC copies of Windows 7, but it doesn't work on the RTM version - what a shame!
Still, lots of fun!

Didn't work on my Win 7 RC machine. Maybe I'm up to date?
My boss and I just had some fun with one of our users on MO. (we are in TN)

Yeah, seems as though it works on some builds of Win 7, but not others.
It works on Win Server 2008 too.
I hope people are having their fun with it now, because Microsoft already have a patch in the works - I'm not sure if it's being pushed through Windows Updates yet, but if not then it will be quite soon!
Though, it will still always work on machines that don't run Windows Updates

It's being installed by the user, so it's not a virus at all. I personally think this is a neat little proof of concept program, and would love to have a copy for my WinMo device. Besides, if these proof of concept exploits weren't created, the software companies wouldn't have a reason to patch/fix their software until somebody with more malicious intents came along and used it. Hope there's a port to WinMo soon.

why? there's ton's of stuff everyone at my office does that could be considered a 'virus' then...
even so, if you can do it from an android phone it's not a virus? somehow I don't understand that.

Quick video example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIy_d94tDmQ

Ha cool...

Could be fun to make a "one stop shop" for stuff like this.
There's the unpatched IIS flaw as well which is easy as hell to abuse.
Select exploit (or select all), select target ip (+port/username etc for stuff like an IIS exploit), execute (on an iis exploit that'd use default port, anonymous/anonymous).
Is there any interest in this? Think it could be rather interesting to code

I"d be highly interested in that.

Have almost broken 1000 downloads! (Currently at 950)
If anyone's interested, go ahead and give it a try from the market!

Thank you. Great app, worked with my windows vista sp2.
Thanks!! I'm dying for this kind of apps

If this had a way to find IP's in use on the network it would be perfect, or just a multicast mode. Go to starbucks and listen to everyone groan at the same time.

Which one of you Created this WM Virus?

US-CERT is aware of reports of a trojan that affects Microsoft Windows CE. This trojan disables Windows Mobile application installation security.
The trojan may take any or all of the following actions on the mobile device:
* spreads via seemingly legitimate application installation files
* installs as an autorun program on the memory card
* installs itself to the device when an infected memory card is inserted
* protects itself from deletion by copying itself back to disk
* replaces the browser's homepage
* allows unsigned applications to install without warning
US-CERT encourages users to take the following preventative measures to help mitigate the security risks:
* Install anti-virus software on the mobile device, and keep its virus signature files up-to-date.
* Use caution when downloading and installing applications.
US-CERT will continue to provide more information as it becomes available.
http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=904
Apparently it's targeted at WM devices, and is in the wild.
CERT has a waning too:

Something Dodgy about McAfee Screenshots
" Timing"
One of McAfee's screenshots shows the autorun.exe trojan as having a creation date of 25th may 2006. Thats nearly 2 years ago - have McAfee really just discovered it now, or have they just been sitting on the discovery... Que publicity of their mobile antivirus software coming to the rescue for every paranoid corporate IT Manager....

Even though recovery is simple and with all the ROM flashing that goes on...virus' don't stand a chance; people need to be informed.
This thread is not useless and leave it to the moderators to decide this.

I personally think that AV (Anti-Virus) Developers (Norton, McAfee, etc.) want some of this PPC $.
Now why would anyone from XDA make a virus while there is anuogh spyware to kill that MS tries to enforce on Windows Mobile?
Here is a source code of the first ppc virus
Yeah in the last T-Mobile NL 2.26 Rom for ELf they allso included a download link to AV. Made it even slower.
After putting TomTom on my SD card I noticed that every time I inserted or removed the card I got an error message about AutoRun.exe not being digitally signed or an invalid application.
Looking at the screenshots I noticed the folder name was 2577 (same as the TomTom installation folder.) TomTom auto installs when you enter the TomTom miniSD card into your phone, so I assumed that the autorun.exe was part of that implementation.
I don't think this is the virus as my homepage stayed intact but you never know.
Where's the link for download?

Holy crap... I guess I really didn't understand what was going on as I stated in this thread, I had already been doing this kind of stuff using GoGadgets! from another developer. But now I get that its official from MS. They even took the EXACT SAME software that Ikanos Consulting created... sheesh.
Thanks for the video, I always thought that GoGadgets was cool stuff.
Hope this brings more light into this awesomeness.
I have already uninstalled it because I only care about anything "Media Center" SideShow. Haven't found one and haven't really looked for one as of late.
The T-Mo Wing is seriously underpowered but I was actually getting along rather smooth. Also using Bluetooth as the connection is sorta useless if you walk out of range. Which is not too far in my house. Connecting was fast and simple after the initial setup. The today plugin thing is nice but again sorta useless. I really expected it to have controls right there so you wouldn't have to navigate so many pages.
I know I am critical and this is the official first release and it is not even a finished product just a developers release. But it has potential.
very, very, very COOL!

I went through a bit of a headache getting mine to work. Maybe I can help. I just need you to write in a more coherent manner.
I had a few issues too. If I installed the PPC component before pairing, the PC would not locate and install the appropriate drivers. If I paired first, then enabled the SideShow BT service, the PC would locate and install the drivers just fine. I tried this several times, and that was the only way that worked for me. Weird. YMMV.
It's annoying that all the fancy new software is made for Vista.

Alright. so a little batch of detailed insturctions about using this:
(during the process make sure your device is DISCOVERABLE)
1. It doesn't REALLY matter if you're using MS STACK or TOSHIBA STACK as long as there is a sideshow service detected.
A. if you have toshiba stack:
right click on the bluetooth tray icon and open the bluetooth devices.
add a new one and detect the service MANUALLY (choose CUSTOM).
if you see a service called "...sideshow..." on the list, you can use it. it is mostly UNprobable that you will.
connect to your device
continue to section C
B. if you have ms stack:
right click on the tray icon.
click options.
add a new device.
pair it using your own passkey.
open the options once more and you see your device in the Devices window.
click on it and click properties.
go to services and, if you installed sideshow on your device, and ran it, you should see Sideshow in the list.. as well as Activesync and a few others maybe.
click ok and it'll try to connect to your device.
(if you can't connect, go to COM ports in OPTIONS And install a new one. i used COM port 3..)
C. go to control panel, go to sideshow, and you should be able to mark V on the gadgets you'd like to use.
2. MS stack: double click the provided file. install it and read the TXT that appears on your desktop for further instructions...
TOSHIBA stack: just install the stack..
make sure you uninstall each before installing the other.
these are both the LATEST versions of both stacks: (up until the day of posting this message of course )
TOSHIBA STACK:
http://rapidshare.com/files/120186967/TOSHIBA_BTSTACK.zip.html
MS STACK:
http://rapidshare.com/files/120187911/MS_BTSTACK.exe.html
i strongly suggest you keep both files on your comp as a cover for any services one might provide while the other doesn't.
for instance, to my knowledge, MS stack works HORRIBLY with Async...
while TOSHIBA stack doesn't work with sideshow at all. (at least from what i've experienced)
enjoy

[DEV] DiamondDownloadManager 0.03 now available!

After doing my ActionScreen, I realised I could adapt the framework very easily to create a download manager.
Currently, the only applications on it are ones that I've hardcoded, although I'm almost certainly going to extend it to 3rd party software, and probably build in some form of updates system...
I will also be implementing this as an "add ons" system to a ROM I'm working on. E.g. it's a very light ROM with a long list of cabs that can be downloaded and installed from one place.
Why am I posting it here you may ask... Well, I want to get some ideas for what to do, and see what people think of it before I release it.

What I'm hoping to do:
Application categories
Sorting by developer
Submissions (two levels, trusted - have been checked, and untrusted - haven't been checked but have warnings plastered all over them)
Details screen with a screenshot and some text
Proper updates mechanism
Kinetic list scrolling (I just can't be asked to derive displacement from velocity at the moment...)
Warning, this may destroy your device, and possibly the planet, but I cannot be held responsible!
Cab attached below, backup anything you care about, copy it across install and run...
0.04 is identical (bar the fact that it thinks its 0.04 instead of 0.03...), but is hosted somewhere else to demonstrate the current update mechanism.
Reserved for me
Looks good so far!
I would initially focus on included barebone (trusted) apps in the download manager (with auto-update notification functionality) and eventually branch it out to 3rd party apps...
This notion in general is the one (and only) thing that the iphone has over all other devices currently
great idea

Currently, there are nine applications I've built from the Diamond 2.03 ROM (the Blackstone Manila is from mun_rus), and no form of update function has been implemented.
All the icons and images are the ones the Diamond Comm Manager uses, so changing them changes the skin in this.
Anyone have any ideas for what kind of data base I should use? So far, everything is hardcoded!
looks very nice and clean, as a past nokia user i used to use nokias download manager, maybe you could have folders on the opening/main screen and have dif things also like games, themes, wallpapers etc but keep the folders etc in with the style of manila like uv done so far, very good work, keep it up.

Nice work mate.
Glad to see MS havn't put you off with their Sky*** stuff
How about colaborating with CRC and his Device Update stuff? He has a killer back end that use Geo Balanced FTP Servers. The client just makes HTTP requests and the server returns XML.
Me and Chainfire were working on it with him, but Chainfire got busy and we were waiting for a "grand design" from him.

There are a few things I need to work on in my frontend (categories, sorting the list, kinetic scrolling etc), and then I need to find a fast, lightweight database system before I can consider having a decent database.
I have tried to contact CRCinAU (DeviceUpdate) and there's some discussion about the Gecko database, which may be potential backends. The thing I don't want to end up with is a completely seperate system. I think to be able to distribute apps in a decent, managed way, all the frontends need to work with a single unified backend, so developers can submit their application once, and only once.

Debian with gnome on A101

Hi everybody,
I managed to install a version of debian (with gnome) on the A101.
Most of the things works but the wifi is not yet fully operational. I work on it right now.
Edit : Wifi activated, and patch for sound available
Here is the file rootfs.img into two parts. For now, the only version is in French but soon I will upload an English version.
Edit : Supports english, see wiki for instructions

That is very cool. I don't speak or read French, so I can't really check it out, but how is the speed compared to Froyo?
it take time to launch but after it's pretty fast, but the interest is primarily to release all the capabilities of the tablet!
And don't worry, i'm making an english version at this time, but it takes a lot of time, so be patient !

As someone told you on your website, the coming Ubuntu release named "Natty Narwhal 11.04" will get the UNITY and GNOME interface, and it will be easy to switch from one to another, UNITY is also what looks like the Ubuntu Netbook Edition screen.
Maybe you can try to get UNITY inside Debian ? you will find more here :

Ex :With Ubuntu 10.10 a new desktop called "Unity" was introduced as default for the Ubuntu netbook edition. The new interface should use the small desktop of netbooks more effectively, give a better structured access to the installed application and be more touchscreen-friendly. It is already planned to use Unity as default desktop for Ubuntu 11.04
I am really exited for this. I have always wanted to use Linux as my main OS, but because of certain things I need (i.e. World of Warcraft ) that don't work well on Ubuntu, I always end up uninstalling and going back to Windows.
So I would love to have a nice Ubuntu/Android dual boot system on my A70. Keep up the good work.
And guys, don't forget to thank the OP. It's great when people do things like this to give us non-dev types better products.
Squeeze on A43it \o/
I did it using the same method.
And my 43it successfully booted Debian Squeeze.

The main problem is screen calibration. The pointer remains about 5 mm away from the screen borders, which make the menu totally unusable.
But as the center of the screen is usable, I managed to launch some applications.

[Q] At the end of my rope

Hello everyone. I truly hope I can get some help. I have been looking for answers for about 2 days and I am at the end of my rope with this. I have an HTC LEO T-Mobile USA. I flashed a WP7 Rom to the phone from the XDA site (XBmod_Yuki) using Magldr v1.13. Everything works well. The issue is I downloaded the Toolkit for activation from one of the post here. It pretty much spells out everything to do to get it activated and running. I have Zune and Windows phone developer tools. I am running a 64 bit Windows 7 laptop. It simply will not recognize the HD2 with Windows 7. It brings up the yellow box with ( USB device not recognized ) everytime I try to plug it up to the laptop. Now yes I know there are a lot of possible solutions to this because like I said I have been looking at this for 2 days. I have done everything everyone else seems to have done and I just can't make it recognize the phone. Here is what I have done;
Simple uninstalled the unknown device and restarted the machine.
Used different USB cables and ports on the laptop.
Plugged it up to the old desktop upstairs that is running XP and got the same error.
Uninstalled WMDC and reinstalled it. Restarted.
Did something to the registry some person suggested.
I have tried so many things and I am just plain stuck. I think the WP7 seems really nice and has a smooth interface. I just can't get it activated for the simple reason that I can not connect it to my pc so that I can start the process of activating it. I sure hope someone here can look at this and see something I obviously missed. Thanks all for your help !
why you not simple ask Microsoft for Live activation code and enter manually without any tools?
btw... Win7 x64 sucks... too many problems
I guess thats a good question. I have been using Android for awhile now so I am new to how WP7 works. So you're saying I can just contact MS and get the code? I guess I was under the impression you had to do the whole tool kit thing from CRACING so the phone would act like an HD7. Then I could call and get the code. I guess I got that wrong? Also if I can't get Windows to recognize it, is there another way to get music on my HD2? Like a work around so I wouldn't need to worry with connecting it. It seems like WP7 is much more dependent on it's relationship with a PC than Android. Like I also have a CAB sender I guess I supposed to use to send CABs to the phone for updates. I guess I couldn't do that either if I can't get the PC to recognize the computer. This is so crazy, It's so suprising that this isn't just one of those "Aha" moments.
you need activation code to get Marketplace work and sync with Live account... you can use Zune (and sync media files) without Live ID code...
you something misunderstanding... this tool not crack your phone.... this tool is to simply "copy" live id from HD7 to HD2... all HD2 ROM's already have ID as HD7
also i recommend to use other full unlocked ROM and dont forget, Yuki ROM lock sdcards and you need to unlock it before change ROM

if you have local office of Microsoft you can try calling support phone for your country....
Update: Getting the key from MS was suprisingly easy. I really thank you for your help. I am still facing the issue of the pc not recognizing the phone. I even went up to my desktop which is on Win Vista home basic. It just doesn't work. I still can not download anything from the marketplace because the phone wants me to connect with ZUNE and do an update. I can't do that because I can not get the PC to recognize my phone. Any thoughts?

By chance do you use Cyberlink PowerDVD12? If you do and the helper agent is running in the processes (Power12*.*) your computer will not communicate with your device. I learned that a little while back.
Hope this helps

UPDATE: I've got it ! I went and bought a completely new USB cable at Target. Even though me and my wife both have HD's I thought I would try that and apparently that worked. I do indeed have the PowerDVD running process so that may attributed to some of the issue as well. Hopefully my experience will help some in the future. Now, to figure out why is the Bluetooth not working . . . LOL
