Is there one for XP Professional by any chance?

Is there a more detailed step by step on how to set this up? Would I be able to remote access the computer via internet if I am away from home?

i think if you are accessing away from home the difficulty is not in setting Remote Desktop. it will be setting up your router and firewall to properly forward the ports. try start with the LAN (within your home) first.
XP/vista:
1. has to be XP Pro or Vista Business/Ultimate. the "Home" versions won't work
2. Right click, My computers->properties->Remote-> SELECT "Allow user to connect remotely to this computer", this option is under Remote Desktop Section, NOT Remote Assistance.
3. (many ways to do this step, this is only one of them) Start->Run->type "cmd"->type "ipconfig"-> obtains your computer's IP address
4. Moving over to HD, launch Remote Desktop (Mobile), in computer name/ip address, you can type in the IP address you just obtained. ALTERNATIVELY, you can type in your computer name (ie. Buggybug0). To obtain your computer name, go to your computer, right click, My Computer->Properties->Computer Name -> Look under "Full Computer Name"
5. In HD's Remote Desktop Mobile, go to Options, adjust the settings they are pretty intuitive.
6. if your desktop/laptop, have passwords, enter them in the RDP Mobile, if you don't, it's okay, it will prompt you. In most cases, you do not need a domain name. In corner cases, you do, but rare, post here if you suspect this is cause a problem, i don't want to confuse everyone.
7. if you want to use RDP mobile in full screen, I recommend mapping one of the buttons to "left soft key" or "right soft key" or "bring up keyboard" so you can exit full screen and use the on-screen keyboard to type. Maping keys is done in (on HD): Start->settings->buttons.

I need help on this aswell. I have tried various things. Under my computer - properties- remote i have checked both boxes. I have included remote desktop to the exceptions of the windows firewall. Opened port 3389 and checked if they were actually open using www.canyouseeme.org. Then i connected my HD to my wireless network, launched RDM. And filled this in (screenshot 1) this is my network IP
I also tried filling in my ip i get when go to www.whatismyip.com but then i get this screen: (screenshot 2)
It will say connecting for 2 seconds and then switch back to this screen saying not connected. I think i have everything set up correctly, but it still doesnt work

i enter my IP and get to a windows xp logon screen which needs a username and password.
I have no password on my machine so what the hell.
nevermind i found the solution, the machine requires a password to make it work.

I use GoToMyPC on the Touch Hd which works great and is really easy to set up. You have to install the app via PIE instead of Opera though.

wow how easy you sound, BUT you didnt answer the MAIN question ... TUTORIAL ...
I want to use remote desktop like this / pc - internet conection - touch hd/
1. what to do with my pc /on my pc/?
2. do i need to install server?
3. Is there a website like ovi.com for nokia similar for touch hd?
4. Do i have to pay for public ip adress?
HOW DO I DO IT?

I cant get it to work despite following this tutorial and the one from pocketnow on youtube. Is it because I have Vista Home Premium? But if so then why are the remote desktop options in vista if it is not compatible as mentioned in post 5?

I'm guessing it's solved but some points just in case anyone else reads this
the address you use is a 192.168.x.y address this is for private networks
so you'd have to use wifi on the local network , in which case the firwall is probably irrelevant. If, on the other hand you are on some external network (3g etc) the you would go via the firewall (use it's external address as the target) and as well as enabling remote connections to the PC you need to do three things
1. open the ports (which you did)
2. set up forwarding to your target pc, otherwise you are rdp-ing to the firewall itself
3. and make sure the account you use has a password

Well, there are lots of possibilities.
It is correct that Vista Home Premium does NOT support Remote Desktop, only "Remote Assistance" which is not the same. One of the reasons for me keeping the ole XP Pro
For a free solution You can install VNC server (i.e. UltraVNC, TightVNC) on the PC and then use VNC client/viewer on the PPC (i.e http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=128549&package_id=140792&release_id=503186 , or http://www.mochasoft.dk/vncce.htm#touch (commercial) )
But, please, do take security seriously !!!!!!!! You can use zaTunnel for encrypted tunnel between PPC and PC (or between the PPC and your home router if it has SSHD server and then portforward VNC session to PC). See here: http://www.zatelnet.com/zatunnel/zatunneldoc.php
If all this sounds unfamiliar, then ... prepare for a LONG reading.
OR you might check this service (I being a paranoid, do not like/trust services like this!):

For sure you'll have to read these:

Holy crap... I guess I really didn't understand what was going on as I stated in this thread, I had already been doing this kind of stuff using GoGadgets! from another developer. But now I get that its official from MS. They even took the EXACT SAME software that Ikanos Consulting created... sheesh.
Thanks for the video, I always thought that GoGadgets was cool stuff.
Hope this brings more light into this awesomeness.
I have already uninstalled it because I only care about anything "Media Center" SideShow. Haven't found one and haven't really looked for one as of late.
The T-Mo Wing is seriously underpowered but I was actually getting along rather smooth. Also using Bluetooth as the connection is sorta useless if you walk out of range. Which is not too far in my house. Connecting was fast and simple after the initial setup. The today plugin thing is nice but again sorta useless. I really expected it to have controls right there so you wouldn't have to navigate so many pages.
I know I am critical and this is the official first release and it is not even a finished product just a developers release. But it has potential.
very, very, very COOL!

I went through a bit of a headache getting mine to work. Maybe I can help. I just need you to write in a more coherent manner.
I had a few issues too. If I installed the PPC component before pairing, the PC would not locate and install the appropriate drivers. If I paired first, then enabled the SideShow BT service, the PC would locate and install the drivers just fine. I tried this several times, and that was the only way that worked for me. Weird. YMMV.
It's annoying that all the fancy new software is made for Vista.
*Crosses Windows Mobile Device Centre off the list
*Crosses Windows SideShow For Windows Mobile off the list
Alright. so a little batch of detailed insturctions about using this:
(during the process make sure your device is DISCOVERABLE)
1. It doesn't REALLY matter if you're using MS STACK or TOSHIBA STACK as long as there is a sideshow service detected.
A. if you have toshiba stack:
right click on the bluetooth tray icon and open the bluetooth devices.
add a new one and detect the service MANUALLY (choose CUSTOM).
if you see a service called "...sideshow..." on the list, you can use it. it is mostly UNprobable that you will.
connect to your device
continue to section C
B. if you have ms stack:
right click on the tray icon.
click options.
add a new device.
pair it using your own passkey.
open the options once more and you see your device in the Devices window.
click on it and click properties.
go to services and, if you installed sideshow on your device, and ran it, you should see Sideshow in the list.. as well as Activesync and a few others maybe.
click ok and it'll try to connect to your device.
(if you can't connect, go to COM ports in OPTIONS And install a new one. i used COM port 3..)
C. go to control panel, go to sideshow, and you should be able to mark V on the gadgets you'd like to use.
2. MS stack: double click the provided file. install it and read the TXT that appears on your desktop for further instructions...
TOSHIBA stack: just install the stack..
make sure you uninstall each before installing the other.
these are both the LATEST versions of both stacks: (up until the day of posting this message of course )
TOSHIBA STACK:
http://rapidshare.com/files/120186967/TOSHIBA_BTSTACK.zip.html
MS STACK:
http://rapidshare.com/files/120187911/MS_BTSTACK.exe.html
i strongly suggest you keep both files on your comp as a cover for any services one might provide while the other doesn't.
for instance, to my knowledge, MS stack works HORRIBLY with Async...
while TOSHIBA stack doesn't work with sideshow at all. (at least from what i've experienced)
enjoy

WakeOnLan for PocketPCs v0.1 (by Tommi)
Insanely simple program to send some magic packets out to a specified MAC address.
Just extract and run. No Installer needed or included.
Can be used as a command line tool or just by starting and entering the MAC Address in the popup Window.
Command Line:
Please use as following:
WakeOnLan.exe [MACAddress]
MacAddress can be either 01E4523AEE22 or 01:E4:52:3A:EE:22
One way to set it up for easy use with just one PC in you your home is to create a shortcut to the program, and then use a file exploerer (e.g. Total Commander) to change the shortcut and add the MAC address to the end of the command. If you place the shortcut in the start menu you should be able to start your PC by simple pressing the program icon in the start menu.
Requirements
You need WiFi. If you don't have it there is no way this will work.
Should run on any device that has .NET CF 2.0 installed. (Only tested it on my Blackstone though)
CREDITS
Basically all I did was putting pieces from the Web together, there is no real idea from inside this app.

Hi FatBoyExtraordinaire,
if your PC support Wake On Lan (WOL) you can startup your PC from being completely switched off. It will be the same as pressing the Power Button.
It does not work with WLAN only with LAN cable connected to the PC. Typically WOL is not enabled by default. It probably needs to be activated in your PC BIOS and also in windows.
Here is a little howto that should basically help: http://www.anycpu.com/projects/diypc/GraniteBay/OS.htm#WakeOnLAN

You are welcome nir
If you use it in your office, maybe a version with a proper GUI with a list of PCs may be usefull. (or you use a mortscript batch to fire up wakeonlan via commandline for all machines...)
Anyways let me know if a GUI version would be useful for you, and I see what I can do
Cheers,

Thank you very much!
If you want to run the App with Parameters, you can Press the Ok-Hardware Button and then Hold the Stylus down on the Clock at the top right corner. Then you can choose "Run" and use it like the windows "Run".
Would this work if you VPN into a router? Will the magic packet be preserved?

be nice to user this over the phone internet connection and not over the wifi is it even possible to do that? anybody have any pointers?

WOL has nothing to do with the Operation System you use on your PC. Check the settings in your Bios.

Hi surur,
I don't know if that will work. Important is that you have to be in the same subnet as the machines you wanna wake up, otherwise the broadcast will not reach them. Usually the VPN should completely cover the connection and for the client there should be no difference between a direct connection or the connection via VPN. I may however depend on the VPN solution.

Hi Keeland,
this will surely not work via the phone line as the packages are beeing broadcasted to all machines in the same network as the sender. This is because the routers in the network cannot determine any IP address of the destination machine because they are switched off and do not have one. The MAC address however is device/hardware specific and always assigned to the network card.
So sending this request to your home PC would require the Internet to 'know' the MAC of your PC which sits behind your router in your own LAN. This is a technical impossibility I would say.
But you could perhaps go for the VPN solution which is probably Keland's idea but this would require to have a VPN server on your home router and a client on your phone...

Hi Marc,
glad to see you also stumbled over on of my little creations
Actually you are not fully correct.
The bios need to leave 'the light on' for the LAN card after power off, this is correct. But you also need to tell the LAN card that it should actually care for the magic packets and not just ignore them and this you can only do within the OS by the means of the LAN cards driver. And 3rd: most operating systems are actively setting the power modes for the LAN cards on shutting down which is by default usually set to:completely power off, to safe energy and to overwrite the LAN cards defaults (which is usefull in case of a power outage e.g. where the PC could loose the ability for WOL until the next boot).
So you need to do changes in the OS even though the actual process of booting up the PC afterwards has nothing to do with the OS.
Gruesse,
Tommi

Hi trondis,
thanks for the links, but I cannot imagine this will work via DSL (when you are not using a router but are directly connected via DSL modem) because there is no IP address when you are not online and you are not online when the PC is off. As for the router based option, I do not even want to think about the possible security problems in opening up a broadcast port forwarding from the internet to my local home net.

I haven't tried it myself, but I will. It is supposed to work according to several articles, but probably not via DSL. A router might remember your IP-adress, but you need to enable port forwarding in the router. There are other tools available also. Check this web-site: http://www.depicus.com/ They also have some more info. They even have an application for old Pocket PCs (2002/3).
@ thomasschaz:
This has got to be the coolest thing ever! I changed a setting in my BIOS and tried it, but it wouldn't work. I dual boot XP and LinuxMint. I have an onboard 10/100 port that I don't use because I installed a Netgear GA311 gigabit card. I remember in XP there were settings for PowerManagement and WOL. So I enabled the three checkmarks using this http://http://www.anycpu.com/projects/diypc/GraniteBay/OS.htm#WakeOnLAN
Then I shut off my PC and tried your app...It turned the computer on and booted in to Mint (default). I need to figure out how to make this work without those XP settings. I need to find a way in Mint how to activate WOL because it is obviously working off the XP settings.
But for now, as long as I dual boot with XP this will work. Just a suggestion for entering the MAC. I tried to paste the MAC into the box in your app but it won't let me do that. Can you make it so that we can paste that? Or make some kind of drop down box to choose a predefined (user saved) PC. Also something to enter other stuff like MAC, subnet, port, etc... For using when outside of your network. It may already do this, I just don't know how (router settings???).
Something like this...

You need the latest 3.5 Compact Framework installed on the device. You can download it from:

and it has instruction on the page on how to install it. Basically connect your device to ActiveSync, and then run the .msi that you download.

The easiest way to find out the address is right clicking on the video that you want and select properties. If it is a supported camera (Axis or Panasonic) you only need to enter the IP address or DNS name, otherwise enter the full URL to the image location.
If you are having problems adding a camera, be sure to read the README in the zip or the installation directory.
doesn't work
I've put the full url : http:\\mydomain.dnsalias.org?snapshot.jpg

I believe this issue has been fixed. There was an issue with JPEGs that were around 640x480 or larger which caused an issue with the buffer, but this has since been fixed with JPEG streams. I tried to PM you to let you know and see if it worked before I posted it here, but from my testing on the JPEG streams the only ones I couldn't get were larger images, and that was a buffer issue. So if you could re-download it and re-install it hopefully it will work for you now.
Hope everyone else is enjoying the program.

This message is not saying that you don't have the CF 3.5 installed (otherwise the application won't run), instead it is saying that this error message that occurred is not in the CF so can't be displayed. I sent you a PM so that we can try and figure out what is happening.

I just tried this camera and it works for me. If you are doing a camera type that is a supported camera, do not enter in the full path to the image file. Here is my settings on the configuration screen:
Address/URL: http://cam2.east-ayrshire.gov.uk/
Camera Manufacturer: Axis
Camera #: 1
Stream Type: MJPEG
Please let me know if this works for you, if not, it may have been something that we fixed during one of our enhancements that has not been released yet.
Very good app. Will test it and report later here.
thanks ,i will download and have a tre

ip address

how do you obtain the ip address for the phone? I'm using better terminal.
Thanks in advance.
Are you looking for your WiFi address? Short of simply going through the menus / gui to get it, from the command line you can issue:
ifconfig tiwlan0
Which will return the same information. Not sure if this is what you are looking for or not.
I'm trying to setup a vnc through my phone to control my comp. been trying with the ip through router but keep getting socket not connected error.

Do you have the proper ports open on your firewall to the computer you are trying to use VNC into?
Also, to avoid having to worry about port forwarding correctly, if you happen to be running 2.1, just setup a VPN server that you can VPN into via your phone, then you can VNC on the same local IP network.
You need to forward ports 5800 and 5900 on your router to the VNC PC.
I'm using "Remote VNC Pro" from "Walter Yongtao Wang" and it is FANTASTIC. Well worth the price. There is a lite version, but cannot use the trackball as mouse.
Port 5800 is for connecting to the PC via web java viewer, 5900 is for VNC viewer clients...
Ok, I know this sounds dumb but how exactly do I need to set the vnc up? I installed the vnc server from real vnc free edition and when I hover my mouse over the icon in my task bar it says not accepting connections. Not really sure how to set everything up. Again thanks in advance.

Um not to hijack but I think the 2.1 vpn stuff on these builds lack the kernel support for vpn. I have yet to make work with any normal VPN stuff here at the office.

Are you running Windows-7 64 bit? There are some issues getting the service to start that you have to do some workaround for. I'll try and dig up some links if this is the case, as I ran into a similar issue.
Yes, I am running windows 7 64bit. Didn't know there were issues. Thanks
Here's the link regarding the issue, which stems from the install, when starting as a service. The article relates to Vista 64-bit, but the same issue applies.
Hope this helps get you going...
Does anybody know what ports I would need to forward in order to go behind my routers firewall? I have a Linksys if that helps.
Thanks in advance.

yes perfect!
I add perfect word because there are lots of article on xda but not well defined.
So specially for lg oo and also for others I add some pics.
now move to the topic.
For reverse tethering your device must be rooted (just download one click root apk like z4root or gingerbreak and root your device)
then download terminal emulator (search on the market!)
after that,
connect your mobile to pc via usb (don't turn on mass storage)
then from
settings>wireless & networks>tethering & portable hostpot>usb tethering (tick it!)
now on pc
start>control panel(classice view)>network connection
bridged local area connection and LG adaptor.

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",

}

type
su
netcfg usb0 dhcp
