no,there isnt any,MS doesn't offer any class on accessing voice stream in its SDKs.But as far as i know, some models have there own way to access the voice--maybe by using new classes maybe by hardware supporting.

am talking about an application that when u reciv a call and u dont answer it, then it will kick in and say that ur not available to answer call then it can record callers msg.
mjnd u im posting using my jam.... kewl

...yeah,I'm also using Nokia6680.
I just answered your question in an angle of a programmer. If you can't get your program access the voice, you cannot expect it to record the voice.
The final answer is "No there isnt" unless someone pops up and write an interface to enable the programmer to access the voice or the hardware allows.

The tick means "enable answer machine",and the blow function allows user to choose where to store the voice records.
---this is the case i meant "hardware support",it's not a common function. As far as I know, another PC manufacturer in China "Lenovo联想" also got a model named ET960 with the answer machine and calling recording function.

the answering machine feature, sometimes called voice box is usually a feature provided by the service provider. so what for you need a software?

voice mail and answer machine are quite different concepts.there is answer machine software on some models which enable user to record calls to local memory card.but as i specified that these functions need the hardware supportind.

i have to disagree with kuangtian. voice mail was developed as a replacement for answering machines. voice mail does exactly the same job as the answering machine, the only difference is that voice mail is "transparent" whereas an answering machine is a physical piece of hardware. in fact almost everyone around the globe have discarded their answering machines because service providers for both land lines and cell phones have included this feature in their services.
my point is why decrease your valuable memory for a piece of software that basically would be redundant?, but that's my personal opinion.

To save money.
Each time a call is diverted to my voicemail it costs me money. Each time I call to listen to my voicemail it costs me money.
Granted it's not a LOT of money each time. But the charges can (and do) add up pretty quickly.

yes almost all service providers have voicemail service. but each time someone leaves you a message, u get charged, when u access it, u get charged. some providers only charge u when u access the message. with inbuilt answering machine on your jam, or any other ppc or mobile phone, u dont get charged, plus the file is for you to keep forever (eg. ur girfriend's I Love You's )

not in my case directly. i just checked my bills and 99% is included in my monthly subscribtion, and i do get quite a lot of voice mails because i'm most of the time on the phone.

agree with Doormat.Voice mail is not alway free! And sometimes the operator charge you both storing and call voice mail number!but receive fone is commonly free.
besides this,a 512SD card is able to store more than one hour voice recording(on Smart Answer on Nokia S60).also,you can also customize your own warm(i wish...) voice for prompt instead of the cold computer sound...
Actually what i mean different concept is that from the view of programmer,it's not a bit same to use a operator voice mail and a software answer machine.Voice mail equals to make a call while answer machine means the software(maybe need hardware assistance) accesses the voice stream.
wow...really a challenge to my poor english...

nm8,received PM from me?

i'm very happy with my s100 but i still wished that htc should have strived harder and added a lot more features wether the end user will use it or not.
sorry for you guys, but as i've said the voice mail feature of either sunrise or swisscom works exactly like a regular answering machine. we can activate the standard computer generated greeting or record our own. what's best that it's practically free.
in my case i only save messages that contain important information, the rest i automatically delete it.

hey man, nothing to be sorry about.
In fact,my o2 charges nothing on the voice-mail too...they even give me free GPRS.....
I really really wish Microsoft could release a class to access the voice-stream........so i can write a program to record the calling and as an answer machine...

When a Geek cries.. My depression with my new Cigular 8125

Perhaps one of you can help guide me before I give up on what I thought would be the great love of my life, the Cingular 8125.I knew it might be underpowered, I new Cingular would screw with the OS a bit. But as a person addicted to the Audiovox 5600 I thought.
"Hey this will be great I will be upgrading from 2003 to mobile 5 plus getting a bigger screen QWERTY and WI-FI"
How foolish I feel right now. This thing is SO MUCH less of a phone than my 5600, although the call clarity seems even better and has better reception.
- It does not have the ability to easily check calendars and reference the contact while in a call nor is it easy to jump around during a call at all.
- I CAN NOT BELIVE they stopped supporting settings on contacts who's bright idea was that?
- All the conference call numbers that I have stored in my appointments do not have that fantastic autodial feature that my 5600 had
- Don't even get me started on the abomination that is ActiveSync 4.1 I could write down my new email faster than I can sync it
- The today screen is so much less configurable than home screens, my home screen was perfect but I can not use it.
Is all of this just an enormous oversight by MS with Mobile 5 or is this the Wizard? or for that matter is it Cingular? If so can I get this potentially perfect peice of hardware to run a more phone friendly ROM?
Thanks

Dude, you know it had a smaller screen, it's also a smaller device with a full keyboard. What do you expect? At least it's not a sqare 240 x 240 screen.

As with all versions of the WM OS going back to the original PPC OS, you can add any functionality thru 3rd party PIMs, today screens, freeware, etc. Get yourself a good task manager or a Menu application. Navigation on my K-JAM with smartskey, gsPocketMagic, alt-tab, couldn't be easier.

Are you referring to the AKU2 update? Once again, please be more specific.
I've got an 8125 and my wife has a 5600. I tried setting up her home page for easy access to the most used programs and files like i have on my 8125 but it is such a pain and nowhere near as functional as mine.. I guess it's what you're used to.
I have an MPx220 and the K-Jam. They both have their place.
The MPx220 is a great phone when you want a small phone that has actual phone buttons and a powerful contacts/calendar plus some additional stuff.
The K-Jam on the other hand is a complete PPC which isn't much larger than the MPx220 with WiFi. It doesn't use XML like the Smartphones, but is still configurable. They are different animals.
Personally, if something happened to my K-Jam, I'd pick up an 8125 in a second. Push email, real apps, full qwerty, etc. I'll always have a typical phone as a backup in instances where I don't want to risk damage to the PPC phone, but the K-Jam (Wizard variant) is my main device (and has been for almost 5 months) until something better comes along.
Give it some time. If you compare a BMW to a Mercedes, you will find they are both quality automobiles, but if you look for specifics, you'll find each has things the others don't.
-Mc
Ok I have calmed down a bit, still anoyed however
You were correct that alot of it took getting used to, after some playing I get ActiveSync to work reliably (although was more trouble than it should have been). I also added pocket breeze and that helped. I am still really troubled by a couple of items
I do not like having all my contacts on my phone, I have always maintained a subset of my 2000 plus contacts specifically for sync to my phone via categories. With my 5600 I could simply specifiy the categories I wanted on my phone and get that subset. this was a great feature and I am lost as to why they took it out of Mobile 2005.
I liked being able to layout my homesceen with real percision using the xml schema, can I do that with the Today screen?
I am very upset that I have lost the link to autodial phone numbers from appointments. I have like 10 conference calls a day and I am often mobile. All of the appointments have the conference call numbers in them and I used to be able to click them to dial the number. On my 8125 they are not linked, is there some tool or fix to make them linked having to swap back and forth to dial the numbers and codes is a real pain in the neck.
When you dial a contact is there a easy way to go "back" to the contact and dial another number? My 5600 did this great caus the call progress screen had a link to the persons contact and the calendar. A very good interface.
Overall I agree this device has the potential to be much better than my 5600, the problem seems to be that the OS has forgoten what I consider to be some key usuability features around the phone part of this device.
Any hints would be appreciated.
There is a good reason why there is still two devices using the WM software.
--------------------
Smartphones are first and foremost a phone with some limited PDA capabilities that go along with it
PPC Phones are first and foremost a PPC with some phone capabilities that go along with it.
--------------------
I like you transfered from the smartphone platform to the PPC platform when the 8125 became available but I knew that by taking this step the phone side was not going to be as functional as my old trusty SMT5600.
There are a lot of PPC utilities that make this transition easier. I would say the #1 add in you want to play with would be the Smarts Key add in that was developed by one of the members in this forum. It makes it much easier for one handed navigation especially when your on the phone.
I would also recommend installing the new ROM. If you look in my sig there is a link to a ROM package someone has modified and took out a lot of the extra crap that Cingular did to the ROM and also includes an updated Radio/Data Stack. After I did this upgrade and installed Smartskey and Microsoft Voice Commander I found the 8125 to be a much better tool.
If you need a phone first and foremost I would go with the 2125. It is a great device with a nicer screen (smaller still, but nicer) then the 8125. I got one for the owner to replace his SMT5600 and he says the reception and stability is like night and day.
i too, have yet to find the joy in owning/using my wizard (8125) as i had with my typhoon (smt5600). however, i do have a faraday (2125) too and am glad i do because i use it on weekends. the 8125 is not a great phone and the 2125 is a poor pda.
maybe they will have offspring

Bahh, so many time for this, a shareware app...
And so many time to develop a new version and not even the inclusion to be able to choose new ring files from another path...
Sticking with PPCProfiles Pro 3.00a...
Review of Profiles for Windows Mobile 2.0
I have tried a number of different profilers and i like this one best because of a simple interface and low resource needs. It feels like its part of wm5 whilst the others always feel like addons and generally slow the device down.
Well i have tested the new version on my O2 orbit and first impressions are good.
- It has same interface and looks as 1.2 version but is enhanced
- Up to 9 profiles which is more than most of the competition.
- Vibration now works when selected under wm5.
- Bluetooth has discoverable option which is desirable.
- Ability to set profile including wifi on/off when roaming.
- Ringtones can now be selectable from the storage card\my documents folder
- Midi files can now be played as a ringtone
- Screen rotate feature useful for car profile
- Scheduler works well on my device and is a welcome addition
- No glitches or bugs on my device yet.
Wishlist
1. Backlight change with profile
2. GPRS on\off would be a welcome addon
3. Run program in a profile interface is too basic - file menu needed and the ability to use lnk's and not just exe's will make this more versatile.
4. Options interface to be wm5 style rather than old 2003 style and annoying popup of keyboard stopped
So i am certainly interested in buying this profiler and have a couple of questions.
Does the cost include future updates?
Does each device need a separate code? - i have a wizard and an orbit
Are any of the things on my wishlist in the pipeline?
There seemed to be no alpha or beta released (i often checked your forum) why not?
The program size has gone from 94kb to 340kb any possibilty of trimming to reduce size (sounds a contradiction looking at my wishlish) but ? more efficient coding or compression of dll's
Will there be more participation in the forum by yourself as in the past seems lacking and many of the users post not answered.
Thanks again and good work! I hope you take all my criticisms as constructive.
Well, a lot of things have happened in the last year that kept me away from my PC. One of these was the complete crash of my laptop, with a complete lost of all the sources... my last backup was 2 version older... PWM has been rewritten from scratch.
Let me reply to each and every point:
Wishlist - options 1..3 are on the way! I just needed to deliver something and test the user's reactions. I will keep on working on it, if it's worth to...
I don't get your point for wish #4... I'm sure you're going to wipe my doubts away...
Beta - There has been a Beta phase of course. And I posted a message here too, seeking for volunteers... got just one reply, and when it was to late, too.
Program Size - Unfortunately the increase in size is mostly due to images stored into the applet file's resources and the use of the ATL libraries for embedding WMP (sounds preview). I personally would get rid of the sounds preview, but its was one of the most wanted features...
Participation in forum - I'm actually spending several hrs a day in replying to the messages I get in several forums. It's 3:24 now and I'm still here... so my answer is YES! you will feel my presence amongst you!
Licensing: Each device need it's own license. In case of multiple licenses for the same owner, the price would be heavly reduced. License will surely be valid for all 2.x future releases. Whilst I still see room for improvements, I do not believe they will justify a version 3 or 4....
Criticisms are very welcome! I got no better way to improve myself...

Thanks for that slvrbllt - sorry that i missed your beta request post - if it had been in the wizard forum i would have surely picked it up - I am happy to do any future testing.
Correct me if i am wrong but wm5 interface usually has keyboard central and 2003 to the right - no big deal - its just the keyboard popup thing that irritates - EDIT this is only on my artemis - on the wizard it has wm5 interface and no keyboard popup problem.
EDIT2 - problem is fixed on my artemis by unticking 'support wm5.0 soft-keys' exiting, opening and then ticking the box again.
Is it possible to do separate versions? - wm5 and 2003 - it may get round this bug.
I am glad 1 & 3 are in the pipeline and ? 2 not diff to impliment surely - if not I can use a lnk file to work this.
Well you have one customer sold.
btw i have noticed an occ duplicate notification from the scheduler and i will keep an eye on this. Please keep working on this its a great profiler!
Thanks meschle!
Got you listed on my customers spreadsheet... I'll do my best to move your name to the "very satisfied customers" column!

I don't think so. I mean, it's not a technical problem (can be easily done).
I can't see any difference between letting the PDA insert the PIN for you and disabling the PIN request on the SIM.
While I can see security related issues (PIN must be stored somewhere...)
I was testing another product some time ago, and decided to give the auto PIN feature a try. Unfortunately I keyed in the wrong PIN number. Before I realised that, my SIM was locked. To make things even worse, I could not find my PUK...
Now my new SIM does not ask for a PIN anymore.
Ciao!
Well, I tried the previous version of this program and also of PPC Profiles Pro... I liked them both, but at my I-Mate JAMin (and I don't know why) once installed I couldn't go anymore to the Sound & Notifications (or Phone) settings, because after doing that it none of them works ok no more... also it damages all of my default ringtones and I can't select anything else. Even after uninstalling the progs the problem of default ringtones continues So I decided to never use this king or programs again in my ppc...
(sorry for my poor english)
I've just got a T-Mobile MDA Vario II, and i found your profiles program and it does the job perfectly, i love the simple today plugin, just what i was looking for. I like the apps i use to have the default windows look and feel and WPM certainly has that.
I have just placed my order, i look forward to receiveing my license

Sony HBH-DS980 Bluetooth headphones - WOW, all problems solved with Kaiser !!!

Just purchased these amazing headphones for the Kaiser:

These headphones are excellent, first for the fact that you don't look like an idiot while using them to answer calls (unlike using the regular one-eared BT earpiece). These headphones hang from my neck, behind my shirt, while I take the right earpiece out of my shirt to answer calls (or both to hear songs). I still have access to the control unit because it hangs near the end of my shirt (and I don't tuck my shirt to my pants...)
Next, I will list all the features of this headphone that 100% work with my Kaiser:
1. Volume control.
2. Accepting calls / Rejecting calls.
3. Caller ID.
4. Browsing through your Call History (using the DS980's LED), and making calls from it.
5. Browsing through your contacts (using the DS980's LED), and making calls from it.
6. Switching through songs.
7. Pausing/resuming songs.
8. Show the time (on LED).
9. Voice command 1.6 works flawlessly.
Not really "features", but still:
10. When a call comes in when you're listening to a song, the phone will switch to the caller, then after the call ends, the music will resume on the headphones (there were reports in the past that the music resumes not through the headphones, rather through the speaker. no longer an issue).
11. The Bluetooth connection of these headphones to the kaiser is 100% stable (as long as you're something like 10 feet from the kaiser). I experience no connection breaks no matter how long I talk.
12. The call quality is excellent, on both ends.
All in all, these headphones are complementing the Kaiser in an excellent way. Let's admit, the Kaiser is big and heavy, and taking it out everytime you want to do regular tasks (like the ones listed above), is a chore. Using these headphone I can simply do most regular tasks, while the kaiser rests in pocket, and acts only as the "brain". In other words, I can say that using these headphones I reduce the number of times I take the Kaiser out of my pocket, by something like 70% (YMMV, depending on how you use the Kaiser).
I'm reporting this experience with the following installed on my kaiser (if you want a way to 100% replicate my success):
1. NoThrills 6.1 ROM.
2. Jetware Hands-Free Extensions (1.3.1)
3. SPB Phone Suite (1.2.0).
I'm not sure which of the above made the DS980 work so flawlessly, but the above 3 are the only ones I could think of that can actually make a difference when it comes to the integration of the BT headphones to the Kaiser...
That's great..!!
It would be nice if it had a 3.5mm plug though. Then I'd plug in some nice stereo speakers!
(Perhaps) Dumb Question: Does it comes with something to wrap it around your neck?
EDIT: Nevermind: I must be having some reading problems..
10. When a call comes in when you're listening to a song, the phone will switch to the caller, then after the call ends, the music will resume on the headphones (there were reports in the past that the music resumes not through the headphones, rather through the speaker. no longer an issue).

Small update:
I installed "SPB GPRS Monitor", and the above problem suddenly appeared. Good thing I had a SPB Backup file for a state before I installed the GPRS Monitor. Now with the old state (without the GPRS monitor) the problem went away.
I have no idea why the GPRS monitor caused this problem to appear... I wonder if the GPRS monitor is the reason this problem was reported by other people...
noam32,
Quick question -- did you have to install Jetware extensions to get features such as CallerID, browsing contacts, etc. on the OLED? I was under the impression this *just works*.
Thanks.
Good timing !
i also purchased this set this weekend (great sound!) , though can not use it 100% (no call ID, no clock, no contacts)
I installed jetware and could solve everything except point 4 and 5 on OP's post.
call ID shows number but no name
no history
No phone book reading.
Wonder if SPB mobile shell has something to do with this?
jesus, i wish this would just freggin work w/out havign to download all that stuff...pay for it i mean. maybe some of the stuff will get resolved when more WM 6.1 roms are out, thats when i'm going to upgrade

How did you try to access history and phone book reading on the headphones ?, you have to press the most bottom key for several seconds !
SPB mobile shell is not the problem, since I have it installed on mine (ver. 2.0)

SPB mobile shell is not the problem, since I have it installed on mine (ver. 2.0)

The Call ID works. I can see last calls + name (middle button)
Though when calling someone, loss of BT connection still.
As for the phonebook, (last of 3) no reading possible.
maybe it is bound to Alex's 5.2 Rom based on WM6 , or can you share the settings u use for Jetware?
What is ood that I have a carkit which does all this with my Tytn II, but this headphone does not
Anyway, with +100 contacts , I think I am not going to use the phonebook a lot. Voice command will do the trick (testing right now with MS1.6 and Cyberon)
i have a bluetooth connection dropping issue only ( started a thread as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381145 ) rest i can use all my features. I have the jetware extension installed also along with spb mobile shell....

In Jetware all the advanced options are checked.
Worst case, if you *really* want everything to work with the DS980 (without BT hangouts), you can always install exactly what I have on my Kaiser (I listed it above, and will provide more details if you need).

You are wrong. I also have ~100 contacts, and calling any of them from the DS980, takes no more than 5-10 seconds. First you search by first letter, and it takes about 3 seconds to reach the correct (you can go left or right), then it takes about 2-3 more seconds to find the full name.
Yes, using Voice command is indeed ideal, but I don't feel comfortable speaking to my earphone in some situations.
Well, I picked up one of these today and I can't get the phone book to work. I installed the latest version of Jetware extensions but no luck. Going to the contacts shows no contacts. CallerID just shows name as it probably should. Now to get the contacts list to work. I do have it working with Voice Command. Any tips on the contacts list is much appreciated.

Maybe this was overseen from your side: (I tried it but it failed)
In the phone book settings on Jetware, you need to "send" your contacts in the desired format to the device. The device seems not to have reading functionality itself (or depending of other factors)
Also, check your MCVC1.6 settings per field. I managed to get my outlook + SMS messages being red , though then the Bug pops up finishing connection .
Still discovering ...
what about long walk?
is the connection 100%, or is it breaking?
(listening to music)
thx

I also tried using the send contacts (after reading through the tutorial on Jetware's site) but still nothing. Were you able to get this to work using the send function within Jetware?

If you get it working please post.
Thanks.
When I first started to work with the DS980 and Kaiser, on the first launch of the contact manager on the DS980, it didn't work either. Then I saw that on the kaiser there is a box where the DS980 is asking for permission to read the contacts (this box pops up on the kaiser after the first time you press the contact key on the DS980). Once I allowed it, the DS980 could read contacts no problem.
I tried the following still without any progress:
- Uninstall Jetware
- Delete pairing of DS980 with phone
- Soft-Reset device
- Install Jetware
- Soft-Reset device
- Paired with DS980
- Still nothing.
I'm running WM6.1 on a AT&T Tilt. Not sure if this has anything to do with it or not. Maybe it only works with WM6.0... Maybe I'll flash WM6.0 soon and give it a shot to see if it works.
I definitely don't get any notification asking me to allow the DS980 to access the contact.

But as I've already said, I'm running NoThrills *6.1* ROM on my TILT !
Again, If you will install my ROM (NoThrill's 6.1 english) and Jetware extensions (1.31), you WILL have every feature of the DS980 active. Guaranteed (I mean, how not ?).
I do have NoThrills 6.1. I did re-cook it so that seem like it's an issue.
I flashed the original NoThrills 6.1 and I was able to see the prompt asking to allow the DS980 access to contacts. When I flash the cooked version of the ROM, no good. So not sure what it could be but I will probably just flash the original and use it. Unless I can figure out why the re-cooked version doesn't allow/show the access to the contacts via Bluetooth.
Update:
I tried re-cooking just NoThrills 6.1 ROM without including any additional package and I could not get this working. Not sure if it's something with the cooking process or not. Didn't get to the point of comparing registry so anyone who's having issues with this it seems to be a problem with cooked roms or maybe the way it's cooked.
When I installed NoThrills 6.1 as-is the contacts works fine. I don't need Jetware to send the contacts.
Hope this is helpful -- not a solution but at least points to a direction of what to look for. I'll be returning my DS980... not too impressed with it. I'll stick with the Plantronics Discovery I have.

[App] JRTRemote - J2ME Remote Tracker Client App

Hi all,
I was looking at the Remote Tracker app (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=394203) and realised that the odds of me remembering the necessary commands and their syntax when my phone gets lost/ stolen is pretty much nil.
So I wrote this (very quick) j2me application which should streamline things a bit. I'm including the source code of the app (although it needs a bit of cleaning up).
To use it, install it on any J2ME device that supports JSR120. That is the Wireless Messaging API which allows a J2ME application to send an SMS. The device must also support MIDP-2.0/CLDC-1.1.
Notes
Keep in mind that the SMSs send from this app will not show up in your phone’s sent items folder. You will be charged normally for them of course.
There is only one caveat when using the app: The phone number in the "Send message to:" text box needs to be in the international format (i.e. +44123123123) and it has to have a "+" not "00" (i.e. +44 and not 0044).
The app was built using Netbeans 6.5
Let me know if you find any bugs or want something changed or added.

Great job mate. I highly appreciate. But don't we require some emulator to run java apps on PPC? Do we need to run the emulator to activate this app. Although it may be great for nokia devices.
Actually I'm not sure about WM phones.
My phone, a Kaiser, has a J2ME environment in its ROM (esmertec's Jbed).
I'm assuming that other do as well, although not necessarily Jbed and not necesarily all of them.
Copy the jar/jad files to your PPC and try running them.
If you still have an XDA Atom, according to this page (http://www.mwg.com/xda-atom-life_applications.aspx) it has J2ME preinstalled. Not sure about your current ROM though.

Do your client run in Symbian?

If a device has a J2ME environment which supports MIDP-2.0/CLDC-1.1 and JSR 120, then it should work irrespectively of the actual OS.
I've also found this (incomplete) list of phones and the J2ME environments they come with: http://www.club-java.com/TastePhone/J2ME/MIDP_mobile.jsp - It doesnt say anything about JSR120 though.
If in doubt just try it. The worst thing that will happen is that the app will not load or that you will get an error message when sending.
Actually, the project should directly compile against CLDC-1.0. I'm pretty sure that I'm not using any of the 1.1 features. I'll do that for the next version.
Hi! I added your software for download in RT main site. Take a look:

Hi!
Just to let you know: I tried your software using Nokia N95. Workd like a charm!
Great job!

Good, I'll add it in the code and uploaded in the next couple of days. I'm on a flaky dial-up at the moment, so I can't guarantee a speedy upload

Don't worry. Just take a note and when you fix your internet again you make the modification.

Just came back from vacations
The new version should be up later tonight.
OK, v0.2 is up.
Changes:
I've compiled it against CLDC-1.0 so it should work older phones which have MIDP2.0 installed.
Added support for the GANFL command.
The DL is at the first post.

Hi Alt
Your application runs excellent in the other mobile platform... also the specification and other details of the phone which you gave is very informative....
I own a Sony Ericsson phone and also Nokia 6080 phone apart from HTC S620. I have already have Anti Theft protection in my HTC but not in the other phones... Are there any Anti Theft software which can run like the excellent JRTremote which you develop, and can work on any phone with independent platforms... It would be great help.. Thanks..
Can you please, release an updated version of the program(there were some new commands added and other changes..)
Thanks
Hello, Can you add the rt2# option to send commands to HTC HD2.
Thanks.

Ultimate VoIP-Discussion: Best VoIP-Client (SIP) for Jade

Dear all,
I´ve been trying out quite a lot VoIP-Clients on my jade and would like to share my results with you. Maybe some of you have some more experience or other good feedback, which I would appreciate!
My VoIP-Provider is www.sipgate.de. They offer a free German landline... So my results are based on sipgate (and their "coding"?), maybe the bad results depend on the mixture with the client and the provider...
All tests were runned while using a fast WiFi connection.
AGEPhone
I tried ageet-AEGPhone. On my side the sound quality was ok, but the called person said my voice came with a lot of small interruptions so the phonecall had a non acceptable quality. So AGEPhone is out.
WM61 VoIP
As well, I tried to activate the built in VoIP of WM61 like explained in this thread. It generally worked, but the result was the same. The called person only heared a very bad quality of my voice, with a frequent, repeated hacked sound... Too bad.
PortSip
PortSip, sorry to say, same result. The sound-quality on the other side was very bad.
Skype Beta
Skype Beta 3.0.0.100 runs good as well. The sound quality is quite ok, even on 3G/UMTS (be aware! flatrate recommended!)
As well you can "register" your mobile number as caller-id, and sms-sending is supported as well. Pretty cool!
Disadvantages are, that it only runs with the backside speaker (or headset) and you cannot access the phonebook (so you would have to add your contacts manually in advance...) Told the support already and they want to try to work on it in upcoming versions. And, if you do not have a skype-in-number, no one can call you...
Fring
At least for me, Fring is the only app where the sound quality is acceptable for both sides, me and the called partner. You can use the regular phone-speaker, not the backside one!
Another advantage is, that it grants access to your phonebook, and you can decide if you want to make a VoIP-Call or a regular call with your mobile phone. Fring is basically all you expect from a VoIP-Client. Currently, at least for me, its the app to use.

Be carefull if you want to use VoIP in a foreign country. If you use it with the internet of the roaming-provider, it might get very expensive!! (Happened to a friend of mine, Nokia Communicator, 5 days in Budapest: 250€! ). So be sure to have the app NoData installed while travelling in other countries. With this app you can deactivate all connection points so the phone wont connect to the internet with the roaming-provider, only wifi will be available...
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
I must say I had a very similar experience. After a couple of unsuccessful experiences the only software that works with a minimum quality is Fring, despite people on the other side complain that they heard me with dificult.
hey, thanks for the review. I am also searching for ages for a perfect SIP client and tried a lot too. for me,
AGEPhone is atm the best choice. I even bought the full version. I love how responsive the UI is, although I have to add that there were some crashes after or during long calls.. the sound quality is pretty decent, I hear the other party cristalclear, but that seems to depend on my luck. sometimes I can barely hear the other one. hm.
tried WM61Voip often, also with my old Prophet, and it never worked well. I hate it that MS is not implementing SIP in WM6/6.5, but I guess thats a network provider thing..
I never tried PortSip, but for both Skype and Fring I felt the audio codecs seem to be to complex for my little Jade. its always getting hot and at least for my side, I felt that the audio quality of AGEPhone was slightly better.
Actually I must add that I also prefer standard SIP Voip over Skype on my PC, at least for calling PSTN and not PC2PC.
--
I guess there's no perfect VOIP client atm. Depending on your network and your home country (and your ROM, probably), there's always some differences in the tools. I for myself are German too, using also sipgate, but reside in Beijing for work at the moment. Still, the connection to the German Sipgate servers is pretty stable. I always use AGEphone in the starbux around (sometimes they block SIP, sometimes not), but after your review, I'll install Fring again and try. Been a while..
A question here:I heard Fring is not working on wm6.5?
thanks!
Thx to both of you for your feedback!
@S200guy,
I am really surprised that for you AGEPhone is the best app atm. Maybe you can share your settings with screenshots with us? I only tried it with the "out-of-the-box" settings, and I was unwilling to RTFM! On my side, the soundquality was pretty good. I tested it with my mom, and she was pretty pissed about the quality (even after I tried to explain to her that it is VoIP and it cannot be like Telekom in the old days... blablabla... Parents! )
Another thing, as you reside in China, check out http://emuneee.wordpress.com/eeenno/Speeed-Reader/ . Its an app for reader.google.com
I lived in Vietnam for about 3,5 month and faced some internet censorship problems... With google reader I have been able to read all rss-stuff, even the blocked one, as google is fetching the stuff.
Finally, I found another app, Talkonaut. http://www.talkonaut.com/
But for me it was impossible to register. So I cannot say if - as long as registering works - the app works fine.
