UK AKU2 (Push Email) for o2 XDA exec

I'am looking to buy the 02 xda exec i want Push email on the device does it have the AKu2 ROM?
has o2 released it?
any other ways around this ?

I just reall don't see what all the fuss is about. If I buy a blackberry I can get push email by adding on the £12.77/mth instant email package.
If I want to do it on my Exec, I have to have £700 Exchange or similar configured on a server, and pay someone a monthly fee for exchange hosting on top of that (I think?)...?
I work in O2 sales, and they were training us in the update the other day, but the vast majority of our SME customers won't have Exchange + Win Server. To be honest, it makes more sense to simply check your email every 10 minutes automatically for most people...
Am I way off base here, am I missing something??

Most people don't have exchange and server running though.... and there's no wasting time involved in setting your exec once to check mail automatically on a set schedule.
I just think too many people are getting excited over this for nothing.
I'd have said that A2DP was more important for most.

I'm with you. I was an IT Manager (as well as a Management Consultant) a few years ago with a small company. The Consultants wanted Black Berry devices with Push email. I said it was not worthwhile (even though we did use MS Exchange, a Black Berry server would have been another £2500) and so I set-up email downloads on their mobile phones and told them to check their emails when they had a spare moment. Guess what, most very happy with this solution as they did not to start their laptops and look for a dial-up point etc.

I used to have a blackberry. Its actually a great device in corporate mode, useless for personal (as it does not let you manage your main email acc, you have to set up an account with a provider so its a whole hassle). The main reason that push email is great is that, on the blackberry, you do nothing. then when email comes a green light flashes. You just brush a button and it shows you the subject. If you want to see the first few lines you just click another key, all instantaneous. If you want to see the whole email you click to download + attachments. I would love to have this facility on the universal. I expect that like the blackberry service providers will eventually offer a personal service (i.e. no BES or exchange server needed).
I'm quite happy with web based email on the universal however. I refused a blackberry from my company as I don't want to be working at 5 in the morning ...

pushing gmail onto my phone.

prewarning: i'm a complete microsoft exchange newbie, although i have experience in win2003 management / active directory etc.
here's what i'm trying to do.
basically, push my gmail email onto my phone (running windows mobile 5). i don't want pop access, i want actual PUSH.
how i figure this would work:
- forward my email from gmail to my local win2003 machine, which has exchange 2003 running
- exchange in turn pushes the email onto my phone immediately
- i can reply on my phone and it looks like it came from my gmail address, not from my local domain (i.e. my exchange server address).
so far i'm ok with 1 and 2, all is working golden. BUT i can't reply on my phone - it sends the message fine but shows the from address as my exchange server address.
any idea how to fix this? basically would want to set up some sort of mail relay...
any help would be appreciated! would be glad to provide a few free accounts to people who can help!

If you have Exchange there is a way to setup an alias to accomplish this. PM me if you would like and I can explain in a PM. Basically what it does is it tricks Exchange into thinking it's sending from another e-mail address but basically it just changes the Reply to field so people see it coming from your gmail instead of your exchange account.

Maybe you should try Push Effect ?

took a look at push effect. not quite what i'd like... i odn't want any more running crap on my phone, especially not some alerting service. i want pretty much seamless integration with my outlook on my phone. it can't be hard, i'd rather do it myself for free rather than shell out something or other for licenses or software.
i'm already using emoze (emoze.com) which is good, but adds a silly little signature at the end of emails with some ad. PLUS it has added software running on my pc and phone, which i don't care much for.

They require a donation in order to use alias, but then again, most places will. If he is already running his own exchange server, then he can just use that. Check your PMs chamelion I sent you instructions.

i did actually did do just that a little while ago and it works great (except for sending myself an email).
i have a whole new issue though, i was tryign to implement certificate authentication and now everythings messed up... it just doesn't synch up any more
i'll figure it out, or just reinstall the whole damn thing!

FINALLY got everything working - the aliases and even the SSL authentication which was a pain in the ass. turns out to have been the smallest stupidest mistake i was making, as it usually is!
if anyone wants free push email like denial is offering, shoot me a PM, i can offer the same

Fed up, need working push email.

I'm fed up! I need a reliable push email service that works all the time, every time. I don't have the luxury of an Exchange Server, I did not get Live Mobile with my AT&T WM6 upgrade, nor can I get it to install after the fact.
Emoze only pushes on occassion, Seven pushes fine, but I can't reply to or send a new message.
What's next? I'll happily pay for good service. Any suggestions?

I feel your pain. I'm the same way. I was just looking up solutions and wondering if emoze got any better since all the bad reviews.
I'm seriously considering the move to the BB Bold next month. The battery life on my hermes sucks with the push solutions. I just can't find any thing works nicely.

Perhaps you could recommend something, and point me in the right direction?
My experience with WM6 ROMS here at XDA is that they're all in a .rar format, and I've never been able to extract anything installable.
Your help would be most welcome.

I wanted to get my contact from my outlook..NOPP
I wanted to connect my laptop to the phone and get a internet connection... NOPP
This is basic business needs. Now i have to remove my sim card and put it in my old SE X1. Whats the point in that?

Ok, its a phone running Android.
For a start you can tether your internet connection via USB and you can sync with Outlook

Where did it say it was a business phone?? If anything it's marketed as a multimedia phone!
Most businesses use Exchange and Moxier(included on phone) does a fine job of syncing both contacts, tasks & e-mail. So i'm happy.
As far as sharing an internet connection that will be possible when the phone is rooted and you can convert it to an WiFi hotspot.
Perhaps there are people using outlook that can help you in that department as that's definitely possible.

Well, thats what i am talking about. Functions and apps that does not exist as it is now. The phone needs to be rooted and i have to void my warrenty for a need function.

I hadn't seen that page before, it certainly isn't marketed as that in Denmark. Also these are the promises they make on the page:

Nowhere does it state "internet sharing" - and only recently Android got native(w. 2.1) ActiveSync compatibility...and Android is still a very long way away from being a true Business oriented OS - not quite up to W6.5 levels yet and WP7 seems to depart the business oriented as well.

At least it did with my Swedish phone!

While I understand google wants to lock users into their services not syncing with outlook, both desktop and exchange, both over the air and direct sync, without using "their" cloud, weakens the OS. Love it or hate it Outlook is pretty much a standard and near ubiquitous. They ability to sync with it should be too IMO.

Sync your miserable outlook to Google then your phone will sync it. If you want to sync to some crappy Exchange Server then use the Moxi client on your phone.
For tethering install either PdaNet or EasyTether Lite or some other app from the market.

Well, Easytether did acctually work and was easy to use. Thx for that.
But the suggestion about sync my outlook with a google account is not what i wanted. Call exchange crappy as much as you want its still used by many companys world wide. I am just asking for solutions for my needs and what i am used to and allowed to. I dont care what you use or how you do it. My thread was about my needs, not yours. I want to sync my outlook with my phone by bluetooth or USB cable. If you ever worked on a big company you would know that the IT/IS deparment only allows you to use validated applications on a company computer.
I hope you realize what i just said about this beeing a forum and this forum is for helping other people not calling other people idiots and [email protected]

Yeah, this is one of the issues that everyone was beating up the iphone for (weak in the business market without remote wipe, snycing issues, etc.) since its introduction and in my mind the same applies here. Android should be able to sync with outlook directly, both exchange and desktop, its a fundemental need for many as far as business use goes. That the program is or isnt good doesnt matter because its not about what we want anyways. If it was about what I wanted a naked supermodel would drop by every so often and sync my phone for me.

You can export your contacts from Outlook into a CSV file. You can then import this CSV file into your GMail account (create one if you don't have one). Then add this GMail account to the X10 and it will copy over your contacts as well.
I don't think think there is a solution for any Android device to sync with Microsoft Outlook...sorry buddy. To be honest, if Outlook syncing was a priority:
a) should've done the investigative work before purchasing
b) just get an awesome windows mobile device as it will have a more complete ActiveSync feature set, get an HTC HD2

this is exactly what i did. took less than five minutes to get everything sorted. copying to/from sim is annoying and it screws up if ur contacts have several phone numbers

Some of us did our homework and in fact are still doing it right now, I dont have a android handset yet. Lets consider my options. I hate where MS is going with winmo7, if I wanted an iphone I could have bought one a long time ago. Cant stand the restrictions. Not really against 6.X though. Had a bunch of em already though and long for a change. About the only one I would consider is the HD2 except the form factor is a wee bit large for me. Not a deal breaker there but the lack of 3G is pretty much a killer. So winmo is out, iphone is out. I would probably pick up an N900 but there again you have a lack of 3G which in a modern smartphone can be painful. Thats out. I like palm but neither form factor works for me, same issue with crackberry. This pretty much leaves android which only has one major gripe for me, the lack of proper outlooks support which I have already stated is IMO a basic need for many business users and something which should be out of the box on any smartphone. Now I am not saying you or anyone should agree with these things but this is my view. I find it amusing that pretty much everyone hacked on the iphone over its lack of proper business support and the notoriously obstinate Jobs has been kicked and dragged into increasing the those capabilities with each release to where with the upcoming release that support will be fairly rounded. Seems to me somebody an awful lot of people must want it to get that prick to relent. For my purposes I dont need to sync anything but contacts so I can work around this weakness in the platform and will probably pick up the N1 when my feet hit the beach in a few days. That doesnt mean I am going to pretend everything is all rosy and if they dont fix this and I find it too annoying to to work around I will move on. My mission in life isnt to fill googles pockets. So there it is, perhaps we can converse without the presumption of stupidity. BTW, some of us wont be using gmail at all, shocking, isnt it?

That pretty much my issue here. The supermodel comes over but she cant sync my phone directly with my outlook over USB anymore.

FYI I *know* it works as I said and it's nothing new, for ***** sake... and of course, you know next to nothing bout policies and solutions, it seems

Microsoft Exchange setup

OK, so this is more exchange oriented than HD2, but perhaps somone might be able to help on this.
My IT dept. are being a bunch of douches. I pissed them off when I first started work having been in IT myself at one point in life ranging from desktop support up to MIS Director and let's just say I stupidly corrected some things and thwarted a few Draconian security efforts now and then on my new job. Very stupid of me as I know what happens when you piss off IT.
Anyway, I have been dying to set up push email, but they state that they are working on policies for this.

Is there a way to, through some discovery process, "discover" the exchange name so I can set up push email? This is killing me as one of the reasons (among many) that I waited to buy an MS superphone was specifically for this purpose!

Now for the exchange server address do you by any chance have an Outlook Web Access address i.e. my company uses as the webaccess for outlook on the go.

so for my exchange setup I used "webmail.acme.com" in my activesync on my phone and checked the ssl thing.
Also the webaddress used above should have a proper SSL cert. and not a wlidcard one (google it).
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Even if you figure out the proper address and domain name, there is a good chance you will need a security cert Cab to run to allow you access which must come from your IT dept.
Why not just take this to your boss and tell them you want work email on your phone and have he or she force them to set you up? If your boss isn't down with you having work email on your phone, then IT isn't going to let you anyhow...

I appreciate all the responses.
A couple of points to address:
1. I got it to work no problem.
2. I erased the profile and am going to wait for them to give me the green light/red light.
I am second in command for my satellite office.
I am the assistant program director for a FQHC (Federally Qualified Healthcare Center). We are JCAHO accredited and long-standing.
We have to play by some very serious rules according to the feds and HIPAA is always looming large.
When I put a small applet on my computer to stop the screensaver from engaging (since they took away our privs to be able to just change the setting) someone ratted me out and I was told that it was "HIPAA" policy.
Having been a privacy officer myself I assured them it was not HIPAA policy.
They then noted that it was company policy.
Long and short of it...I am going to have to wade through the BS.
