**Quick Question for 8525** Thank You! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hello,
I'm new to the whole TtYn 8525 world. I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I did a thorough SEARCH and couldn't find:
1. where to download pocketnester
2. where/how to install NES games on my 8525
can anyone help me out with a link? i remember reading a thread that had a step by step on installing both PocketNester and Games.. but i can't seem to find it..
thanks xda Folks! i really realllllly appreciate it!

1. you can find freeware applications such as pocketnester very easily on various ppc freeware sites. pdagold.com, freewareppc, etc.
(btw, http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/pocketnester.shtml )
2. regarding NES games, you have to look up game roms. just google the name of the game you want, and add in the word "rom". www.coolrom.com and www.romnation.net are my personal site picks. once you have the rom, just put it on your ppc and run it from there. it's quicker to run if you open up pocketnester on your ppc, then options>preferences>associate .NES files with nester. pocket nester only looks for NES roms in the My Documents folder, but if the files are associated, you can just doubleclick the rom wherever it is to run it.
since i like to store things on my memory card and save space on internal memory, i recommend making a folder in your storage card for pocketnester, then placing all pocketnester app and roms in that folder. then, create a shortcut to that folder in your start menu.

thank you so much azimuth, i will do this once i get my micro sd card!!
thanks again!!

Newbie With 8525 Questions

Hey guys,
I just got the 8525 last week and so far I like it. I have been searching the net and p2p for games, programs, etc but I am a lil confused. I tried loading .rar files but they dont work and when I load software then remove it I get an exe error when I have to perform a soft reboot. Can anyone help me with info on what apps, games, etc I can load onto this phone? I have several of games and apps that I found on the net I can share if someone can direct me to an upload link.
Also I have the tomtom 6 but only with Guam maps, does anyone know how I can get USA maps.
Thanks brotha.
Welcome to the forum!
First, just to make it clear (I am not accusing you of anything but this particular forum name sometimes confuses new users) we do not discuss warez and cracks here.
The 'hacking' part refers to exploiting hidden functionality of the phones and not defeating software protection.
Now, here is a quick explanation on software installation on Windows Mobile based devices:
1) If you download ZIP, RAR or EXE file you need to unpack and run it on a PC while the phone is connected through ActiveSync. There are programs (including freeware) that can open RAR and ZIP files on the device, but chances are they will still contain a program that needs to be ran on the PC.
2) If you have a CAB file (www.freecabs.de lets you download free software in CAB format straight to your phone) you need to open file explorer and click on it to install.
when I load software then remove it I get an exe error when I have to perform a soft reboot

Not quite sure what you mean by this. If you installed some software, then uninstalled it and now you are getting a message at start up that some file can not be found, open file explorer (on the phone), navigate to windows\startup and see if there is any unnecessary shortcut there. If so delete it.
Good luck!

How to make an install script ?

I have a lot of programs / games already pre-installed on my storage card, and when ever i flash a new customized rom i have to spend ages creating lots of shortcuts into the relevent place, ie programs or games etc.
Is it possible to make an install script to do all this in one go and save my lots of time ?
Thanks...
Mortscript ?
with mortscript it's quiet easy. There is also a very good manual with all commands and samples.
i've got all my shortcuts on storage card and every time after flashing
i start a simple mortscript which copies all these files back to my starmenu-directory and move existing items in my folderstructure
For example:
XCopy (%SOURCE%&"\Games\*.*",%GAMEDIR%,1)
Rename (%PROGDIR%&"QuickGPS.lnk",%GPSDIR%&"\QuickGPS.lnk",1)
etc....
and you can do a lot with mortscript (write/delete registrykeys, reboot etc)
hth
ok nice one, thanks for that. I'll go get it and have a play.
Thanks again...

experts i need help.

all i have been trying to do is move some downloaded games to the actual original "games" menu or folder in my touch.
file explorer cant seem to find the folder where the original games (solitare and bubles) are. i go to windows\programs but i see nothing.
i have about 3 games in window\my documents that i downloaded and dont go to "games". i want to be able to go to the games folder under start/programs/games and see all my current games and future ones i get.
please some one that knows how to move the games to the real games folder help me.
thanks
The games folder is "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games"

You need to ask the people that developed the games. There's hundreds of games available, and they all store scores etc. in whatever way they want. This question has nothing to do with the Leo other than, I assume, you have one.
The two games are experiment13 and teeter.
any help where these savegame files are would be appreciated

I'll have a play and see if I can find anything for you. No promises though
Okay - 1 down.
The teeter game save is in \Windows\userdata.dat
You can simply use file explorer (or resco explorer, total commander, or similar) to copy the file. Just make sure you close teeter before you either backup or restore the file.
I'll have a look at experiment13 now.
Experiment13 game saves are in a file located at:
\Program Files\Ganondolf\Experiment13\user.sav
If you have it installed on your storage card, it will be at:
\Storage Card\Program Files\Ganondolf\Experiment13\user.sav
Just copy the 2 save files from the 2 games and keep them somewhere safe. You can then copy them back at a later date, if you need to.
Good luck
wow, thanks for your help, I will investigate and report back

Get the original games and apps off the phone?

is there a way to get the original game AWBOARDGAMES off my fone. to install it with my custom rom?
i don't think so because it is installed in the ROM. the only way would be to get all the games files out of the windows folder and copy them into the new windows folder and then add a shortcut to the game in start menu.
but as long as its a free game you might be able to have some chef send it to you who cooks the game into his roms. or just try to download it from the internet somewhere.
