I have a problem with my Qtek 8310 (HTC Tornado).
When i connect it to my laptop, it turn off my wifi connection. And think my phone is my new internet connection.
And it continues like this until i unplug my phone again.
Under my "Device Manager" I can see there is a device calles "Windows Mobile device" in the "network card" section.
And if I look in network connections there is a LAN connection.
I have tried ActiveSync 4.0, 4.2 end the new 4.5 beta. Nothing helped.
What to do?
Go to Control Panel, Network Connections.
RIGHT CLICK on your pda connection and go to Properties.
Highlight "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" and click on Properties.
Click on the ADVANCED button.
See the metric at the bottom; take off automatic, and set it to MANUAL.
Set the metric to 10. (This makes the cost of using this connection 10.)
Click on OK, OK and OK.
RIGHT CLICK on your wifi connection and go to Properties.
Highlight "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" and click on Properties.
Click on the ADVANCED button.
See the metric at the bottom; take off automatic, and set it to MANUAL.
Set the metric to 100. (This makes the cost of using this connection 100.)
Click on OK, OK and OK.
Now, when you are connected with BOTH connections, and you have a default gateway address on both connections (ie you have two default gateways) then it will use the wireless in prefereance to the wired connection.

Hi all,
Me and my friend both have a K-Jam and we have been trying to connect our devices together in an Ad hoc (device to device) connection. It looks liek it is posible but just wondering if anyone can shed some light.
Here is what we have done so far...
1) Open comms manager and turn on Wifi
2) in Comms manager click Settings > Wifi Settings
3) in wifi settings click Menu > Network cards
4) from the dropdown at the bottom choose only Computer-to-computer and click "Add New..." in the top of the listbox
5) Type a network name of "TestNet1" (or anything you like) and check the box that says "This is a device-to-device (ad-hoc) connection
6) choose network key tab and set data encryption to disable (just to avoid any problems when testing it out) then click "ok" at top
7) you will see this connection in the list and it will say "Unavailable", this is ok, now onto get onto the other Wizard.
8) on the other Wizard open comm manager and turn on wifi, then close the comm manager
9) Back on the first wizard tap-hold on the connection we just created and click connect
10) now wait for a little while and on the second jam it will popup a window saying "TestNet1" network connects me to: and you can choose "The Internet" or "Work" and click connect
11) you are now connected!!!!
To check they are connected, click the wifi icon at the top, and click settings, then click network cards. Both devices will show TestNet1 with Conneted written next to it.
Also click the wifi icon, choose settings and click Wireless LAN on either device and it will show:
SSID: TestNet1
Mode 802.11 Ad Hoc
plus some other information and a signal strength. Clicking the Advanced tab at the bottom will show status as connected to network with a MAC address and your devices IP address!!!
This is excellent as two Wizards are now connected together directly via Wifi!
I have one question - Does any one have any idea how you can communicate between the two? Send Data etc?
This would be excellent and i MUST be possible!!! maybe some extra software is needed to allow this? Any help would be very much appreciated.
Cheers
What benefit would this have over a Bluetooth connection?
Firstly, further signal range on wifi and secondly Speed, bluetooth inherantly has a very slow transfer speed.
You'll need extra software, as windows mobile doesn't have any server functionality, what means that you can't share your files as you would do on a desktop windows box. However I don't know if such software exists
I have a wireless network at home that is secured by WPA-PSK. When I access the wireless network on my phone it says a network key is required and I enter it. The wi-fi will work for a few minutes and then it will ask me to enter the network key again. Does anyone know how to store the password so I don't have to enter it every time I use my wi-fi at home, or a way to stop it from continually asking me for the password?
This is a strange behavior. Normally the password is saved automatically, in fact once a network is detected all its settings are automatically saved and there is no manual option to do it.
Unfortunately I never heard of such problem before so I have no idea what could be causing it.
Hi,
Very strange behaviour indeed! Anyway, let's see what we can do for you here.
It appears that you have not configured the network key on your network. If you had, this would have permanently stored it for you and not keep asking you for the key as though you were trying to piggy-back on someone's network.
Now, you wouldn't do that, would ya? War driving is against the law over here in the UK.
Here's what to do:
1. Enable WiFi
2. Start->Settings->Connections->WiFi
3. Click on your own specific network
4. Click - Next
5. 'Configure Network Authentication' screen appears
6.
Authentication: WPA-PSK
Data Encryption: AES
The key is automatically provided: blank (i.e. unticked).
Network key : xxxxxxxxxxxxxx (you MUST enter it here by yourself)
Key index: blank (i.e. unticked)
7. Click Next
Use IEEE 802.1x network access control: ticked (automatically, by the system)
8. Click Finish.
9. Soft reset your device for the settings to take effect.
.......and voila! no more network key questions.
Hope this helps.

Well that didn't work...it's still doing the same thing
Hi,
Hmm........ What next? I ask.
This time, we'd have to concentrate on your router settings. This seems to be the culprit since everything in the device is configured exactly as we discussed in the last posting.
Did you use Windows to configure your wireless connection settings for you or did you configure it manually, using the CD that came with your router? I did the latter for better control.
If you used Windows, then navigate to: Start->Control Panel->Network and Internet Connections->Setup or change your Internet connection.
If you used the CD that came with your router to configure it, then look towards the bottom right of your PC or laptop and you will see a dark green icon which says (e.g.) 'Netgear WN511B is connected to........' Click on it to ensure that the security is set to WPA2-PSK[AES] and that the network key is entered manually.
Either way, please:
1. Check your router settings to ensure that it has not been set to prompt for network key.
2 Ensure that the network key is NOT automatically supplied by the gateway. If the radio button is ticked in your configuration, un-tick it.
3. Check your Windows Network and Internet Connections settings if you've used windows to configure it.
I am using the same security as well as encryption and I don't have such problem.
Hope this helps.

throwing in my two cents...

Hi Kiwi392 and CapitanOats25:
I've been working to resolve a similar problem with WEP, and learned something I thought might help in this case: On my router, a NetGear WGR 614 v.6, when I enable WAP PSK I get an entry field labeled "Key Lifetime." By default mine is set for 60 minutes, but you can set it for longer. Perhaps that is the problem?
I hope that helps.
So I'm facing this problem, generally not just on my Touch HD but also on a older Dell Axim x50v but also on a friends iPhone.
I got a WiFi network set up at home, secured etc. two notebooks connect over it to the internet on a daily basis, but I just can't get the HD or any other mobile device to connect to the Internet over the WiFi.
On my HD, I can easily connect to the WiFi, even edit router settings over it, but not the internet. The MAC of the HD is entered in the router to be given a fixed IP and is allowed to receive packets same as the tow notebooks.
Is there some problem with the mobile devices or is it a issue with the WiFi?
On my device I found the connection through Comm Manager>Wi-fi>Settings>Wireless LAN quite straightforward. Does not need any mac# assignment on the router as long as WEP/WPA keys are in router (router set in infrastructure mode). Other settings I used, if that's any help is in Configure Wireless Networks - Networks to Access - Only access points and in Network Adaptors - My network card connects to - The Internet.
Hope that helps.

Hi was able to save this ans but forgot the source though.
1. Go to start/settings/connections and click 'Wi-Fi.
Click 'Wi-Fi' and from the drop down menu chose 'Work' (not 'The Internet') then click 'OK'.
(Seems crazy I know but that's WM terminology for you).
2. You should still be in start/settings/connections/ so click 'Connections' the 'Advanced' tab.
click 'Select Networks' and set both boxes to 'My Work Network'.
Click OK.
3. Now when you click Settings/Communications (in Touch Flo desktop) and turn on Wi-Fi every app that connects to the internet will automatically connect via your WiFi connection.
4. If you need to connect using your Telco’s Data connection (should you be away from a WiFi router:
From Settings/Communications click then 'Select Networks' and in the top box choose 'internet' or ('Optus internet settings' in my case).
Remember to disconnect using 'Select networks switch' and change it back to 'My Work Network' as per step 2 once your finished.
this solves my problem..
some though needs to boost there power settings. To do so;
Go to start/settings/connections and click 'Wi-Fi. Then go to advance then choose "power mode" tab. Then change the slide to middle from best battery or to best performance.
HTH.
I tried both suggestions and it still doesn't work for me. Well, it further hints towards a problem with my router settings, so gonna have to see if I can find the problem there.
Is it possible to surf internet thru usb cable using activesync?
i do not have router at home..so i cant access wifi.
is it possible? can provide the steps by steps detail how to connect?
Yes it is. It happens automatic when you connect the device. If doesn't work automatic, you can set it in activeSync' s connection settings from "computer is connected to:" option dropdown list to Internet.

Hi,
I have a HTC S710 (Vox) and a laptop with Ubuntu running on it.
When i connect the smartphone to my laptop with USB, it shows up as a Generic RNDIS device and connects.
If i run zaTelnet pro on the phone and SSH to the ip of my laptop (on the USB network device), i'm able to connect.
But when i put the same ip address in the address bar of Internet Explorer on my phone, it says i can't connect because my 'internet connection is not configured', i guess it wants to connect through wifi or something.
Btw: I have apache running on the laptop, so i want to get the webpage from my laptop on my phone through usb connection.
Thanks,
Rubberducky
Bump?
I've also restarted the apache server after i connected the phone, no difference.
settings->connections->connections->advanced->select network
choose my hone network or something like that not being your isp
in the dropdown box's
Sorry to sound stupid, but i can't find connections->connections.
I've gone through all available items in the connections menu, but there's nothing with an 'advanced' option?
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
well i don't own a vox
but all devices with wm i've used
i open the start menu
i click settings
i click the conections tab
i click connections icon
i click advanced tab
i click select networks button
and i get a window with the 2 dropdown buttons
Are you sure you're not talking about a pocket pc?
It's been a bit since I had my smartphone out (blackjack), but I think there are options for the connection in pocket ie. Check the menu and see.
I've unchecked the autodetect setting setting, changed the connection to Internet, Work, WAP, Secured WAP, none work...
Any other possibilities?
