Hi all,
I know a few people who are having hardware problems with their X01HTs... They worked beautifully for a while, but then things happened: On two units, the radio is intermittent at best -- they can sometimes send and recieve SMSes, but can almost never talk on the phone, and when you try to download the Call Barring etc. settings from the network, it freezes up. On another unit, the camera went bad, and when they go to the email screen, the unit will just start flashing until they need to reboot it.
These phones were all unlocked exactly the same way as mine (with imei-check) and are all running the same ROM as mine. I have never experienced even a hint of a problem.
It just struck me that all of the three problem phones were purchased from the Roppongi Softbank shop in the second or third week in November. I bought mine from Yodobashi Camera in Shinjuku, and other people who have bought the phone at other Softbank shops haven't got any problem.
Is it possible that the Softbank shop in Roppongi had a bad batch of phones? Is anyone else experiencing random hardware failures like these?

I got my X01ht on the day they were released (not at Roppongi though) and a few weeks later the radio died (while on a trip overseas where I really needed it to be working!).
They warranty replaced the unit and it's been working fine ever since.
It's possible they had a high failure rate at the initial release... I'm not sure if Roppongi had a bad batch or if they had high failures nationwide.

From number of forums I been trough on different web sites my belief is that all the Hermes units have alignment issues.
I think some users use the device very lightly so the alignment issue does not show or some users might not trigger the conditions that cause this problem.
I base this on a fact that some people get the issue after 2 weeks and some get it after day or 2.
Also people who I know that have re-ordered their units, still have alignment issues with new units.
Hermes device builds seam to have the same build issues over and over again:
1. Alignment issue
2. Camera is misaligned to the body of the phone
3. Keyboard only clicks once when closed.
4. Keyboard button problems
There some common hypothesis to the cause of the issue:
1. Tightened screws below the screen (yahh)
2. Digitizer problem
3. Heath from the battery
4. Rubber underneath the screen too thick
REQUEST:
Can anyone after re-aligning the screen can reproduce the alignment issue?
The issue 1:
After some use the screen alignment offsets for 2-3mm to the left.
The issue 2:
After some use the screen alignment offsets for 1cm to the left.
If we can reproduce this problem we might be able to force HTC to provide TyTn's units that actually work.
Forgot to say I am on my second Vario II 632 Series
hmmm, had mine for over 3 weeks now....used it ALOT (went on holiday with the thing) and i aint had any issues AT ALL with it.
If there were issues with ALL the hermes devices they would have been recalled. Besides its seems unlikely there is a fault with both the HERM100 and 200 models!?

Try to use it like a laptom modem with 3g... In this way I reproduced the issue
....done.....still fine.
Checked by using the character recogniser in Word. The line was perfectly lined up with the stylus, across the entire screen.
Since you can only reproduce this by using as a modem that WOULD suggest a software issue???
Have we ruled out that this could be a software issue?????
Just so u know my TyTN is not locked to ANY network and has a serial number starting HT628.
I did notice in several forums that people having HT628 series claim that they do not have any screen issues.
Can anyone who has HT628 series Hermes confirm that they have screen alignment issue.
have a htc hermes since 6 weeks, serial no. 628. I heavyly use it every day. Had no serious problem until yesterday. (only anoying problem was that bluetooth is switching off after some hours without any reason)
But now this fuc... alignmentproblem started on my device too! The fairy-tale that only older devices get this problem is simply not true.
Shall I ask for replacement too?
even 635 is having alignmnet issue..
I had a 628 series and now a 630 series... never seen a screen alignment issue!
CHT9000 623XXX has screen alignemnt problem and camera flash
not working, but the screen problem seems to become more predictable.
I can usually conjure this problem when using power-draining features such as 3G or WLAN. Also, on multiple occasions loudpseaker activity has forced the issue.
I thought about static electricity but since the location of the problem seems to be confined to the right edge of the screen is seems improbable.
I guess it boils down to understanding the technology behind it to include or rule out contributing factors.
Any Sparkys around who could enlighten us?
HTC hardware fault
Good Afternoon,
There are now procedures in place for fixing the Screen alignment issue with the TyTN devices. This is a hardware issue that we have identified and we are offering a replacement to owners of affected devices with two conditions.
1: The device must be returned with all accompanying accessories.
Everything that was in the box when you bought the device must be in the box when you return it.
2: The device must be a Genuine HTC Badged device. This means that the device cannot be a Vodafone v1605, an O2 XDA Trion, a T-Mobile Vario II or any other device based on the TyTN, but that is not actually a TyTN. For these devices, you must contact the Network/Reseller for further advice on this issue.
If you meet these two provisions, you may contact your nearest repair centre to arrange the swap. Please place everything back into the original box and arrange to have the device picked up. It will then be tested to confirm that it has the problem, and then it will be swapped for a replacement unit.
If you are unable to return everything, you will be eligible for a repair under the warranty. For this also, you can contact your nearest repair centre to arrange this.
Your nearest repair centre is as follows:
Dynafix Repair B. V.
Daelderweg 21

So I got my TyTN via import back in August and I am experiencing several problems a few months later: the keys on the front intermittently cease working, the handset speaker makes small buzzing sounds when connected to a GSM network, and sometimes the screen washes out white.
1) I'd like to contact HTC USA for support options, does anybody have the number?
2) Also, does anybody know if they have an advanced exchnage option where they send you a refurb (after you give them a credit card number) and don't charge the card as long as they receive the defective unit back in two weeks or so?
The US HTC can not help you, I've already contacted them. You have to send the device to Europe HTC and have the repair done there. They have 2 HTC offices here in Houston TX one is a repair shop and they said they do not have the knowledge or parts to repair the TyTN that I would have to send it to the country from which the phone was purchased. I think this is complete bull. They could get the parts easly and repair or replace my phone, they are just making it harder to get the TyTN fixed hoping you won't bother them. I am having the screen alignment issue and my phone locking ALL THE TIME!!!! but I have not sent it in becuase I can't handle not having my phone for 2 weeks. I sent an email to HTC Europe asking how long and if I could get a replacement since I have been having so many problems and they never responded.
As far as I know they have no lowner or replacemnet program. I suggest you buy a cheap GSM phone and keep it as your back up.
any luck getting your repairs? I am having soe problems and my imei is definitely from UK.
I bought mine from MadMonkeyBoys gadgets and he has been very responsive in providing support. Although I had to wait until I had a new unit to sustain me during tyTN's repair (now I have a Cheetah), David from MMB quickly got me a repair order and I shall send the unit out tomorrow
After reading through the faq and seeing that the screen alignment issue is a hardware problem and won't be solved with a ROM upgrade as I had hoped. I just wondered if anyone had spoken to T-Mobile about this and what there response is. Will they replace the device for one that doesn't have the problem how did later (serial no devices fix the problem? (Mine is a HT 634 Vario II)
(The SA issue has proved to be a huge problem for me and almost makes the device unusable).
it was such a common problem I'm sure T-Mobile will replace the unit. Get them phoned, get new handset, get happy!
Sent my device back to T-mobile and it was replaced but soon had SA problem back.
Contated them again and they gave me the option to send it to HTC, i did this and got the same device back but with new LCD and since no SA problems.
I was within the number of days from purchase (forget how many), and they replaced my device immediately. Had to go to CS and after checking that I'd tried soft reset etc, they put me through to tech dept who checked the same thing, but the upshot was, they couriered a new phone to me at work and I gave them the old one and kept the new one. A1 service.
I had no problem at all with T-mobile when I got the screen alignment problem. They were really helpful and did the same as the last post, sent a replacement by courier and collected the faulty one at the same time. I was two weeks into the contract and they told me that their policy is to give a replacement if the contract is under 30 days. After that I think you have to send it away for repair.
first off i just got the tmo hd2 us yesterday. everything worked fine sound wise last night and this morning was ok. at some point today while messing with it i realized i wasnt getting audio notification for texts i then tried music and speakerphone and nothing is working. both volume levels are up. could i have broken some setting or installed something? or did i really have my speaker give out on me after one day
last night i had the same problem,i did soft and hard reset and nothing still dead.
any ideas.
If a hard reset didn't fix this then I'd say it's a faulty unit and needs to be replaced. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news
Same with me this morning. Last night it was ok. I didnt install any softwares that could couse this problem. It happend on it's on overnight.
either of you sort this out?
Just got a HD2 in for repair with the same issue
I know speakers can cost less than a bottle of coke so I don't mind buying one to replace it but would prefer hearing your experiances first
thanks
Had the same exact issue. Tried everything from hard resets and re-flashing ROMs(All official). Never did HSPL. Just out of the blue one day it wasn't working anymore. I was ready to bring it for repair(still with warranty), but when I did the latest update from HTC site(Middle East and Africa), all of a sudden it went back to life. Ever since I've been battling with myself thinking if it was better I still send it for warranty repairs. My problem is I know it takes like more than a month for the unit to be returned to me since I'm from the Philippines, it needs to be shipped out for repairs.
Mine has also failed...yet I am in a country with no service center ...
Can this rear speaker be repaired by opening unit or this is not possible?
I so love the phone and this is such a bummer of a fault only a month old bought from seller on ebay in hong kong and am currently on holidays for the next few months. strangely blowing into the speaker worked for a few days but now its dead...
What you guys think?
Send it in for repairs any shop sell the speaker as I am apt with solder and electrical devices...
had problems with the screen on their legend
my wife has had her legend replaced 3 times now due to screen faults
it's all happened since the froyo upgrade ...... i suppose we cant complain because vodafone replace it everytime it goes wrong but the wife is getting un-happy with continually having to set her phone up every time it gets replaced
i had strange problem with screen, i boght mine used so i thought it might be defected from the beginning. but the previous owner(which had eclair said it was working fine) now after froyo, the screen is acting strange, not responding, or i dont know the perfect word, flickering or shivering.
i'll send it to htc egypt to see if this is hw or sw problem.
Yes, mine went to HTC for repair for a screen fault (dead column).
It's been fine since thou. Don't know if they are fitting an improved screen. Obviously Vodaphone just swapping out units might be worse, as clearly all the units on the shelves may have the same problem.
Try contacting HTC for repair directly, that might put an end to it.
