Barred phone - any way to use it again? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hello,
I bought an O2 XDA Exec off ebay which turns out to be barred, since it had been subject to an insurance claim. O2 verified that the IMEI number has been barred and that will apply across all networks.
Does anyone know of any way to be able to use the phone again to make outgoing calls? can it be given a new IMEI number?
Right now it works fine for GPRS(!) web access with a T Mobile SIM, but not for outgoing voice calls. It is also a nice satnav system.
Thanks for any advice before I have the discussion with vendor on ebay.
Richardracer

In the UK, changing the IMEI is illegal, so it's a bit dodgy getting into that.
I believe there are tools available, but who has them, and where they can be found I honestly don't know. I do know that many Turkish users have the problem that IMEI numbers have to be registered with the telecoms authority to work, so they sometimes change it themselves to save the hassle.
I don't know if that tool works on the Universal.
I would say the best bet is taking the issue up with the seller as this is something that should have been mentioned in the auction, and if the device was not lost or stolen, perhaps O2 need to get involved for them making a fraudulent claim.

Richard, it's not merely a bit dodgy, in the UK, it's very dodgy. Helping or advising you about this is potentially dangerous for us Brits.

There are ways, but frankly, take it up with eBay or the seller if you didn't know what you were buying.

Thanks for advice, no desire to break law
Gentlemen,
Thanks for prompt reply. I have no desire to do anything illegal, so i will go back to my ebay vendor and take up the issue there, rather than take a risk with doing anything illegal.
In meantime, I will live with a lovely tomtom 6 display and VGA internet access!!

Richardracer

Well, the phone can be very well stolen. I think you can file this issue up with eBay, or probably launch a police report. How much did you pay for that phone? I hope you can get your money back.

Exec for sale *Phone NOT working*

I had an Exec replaced on an insurance claim a few months back and it has recently been returned to me by the local police.
As the phone was lost O2 have blocked the IMEI number of the unit and it will no longer work with the GSM networks. It will still function as a PDA for PIM use and Satnav etc. I have thoroughly checked it and it functions 100%.
As a result I have an Exec for sale for spares only. The touch screen is in good condition with a screen protector fitted at all times. All other parts of the phone are in good condition. The case shows the usual signs of wear, the corners have scuffed paint and a small dent in the metal LCD cover. The keyboard is in good condition with 7 buttons showing the dreaded "case rub". There is a new aftermarket battery (standard) with it and all the original accessories in the original box.
If there is enough demand and people only need one bit or another then I will break the unit and sell it off that way.
So if anyone is interested, make me an offer in the region of £80 delivered to the UK (the spare parts alone are worth it).
If you are interested in parts, PM me with what you want and make an offer.
I will be away for a few days so if you don't hear back straight away please be patient.

How much is it going for?
Is it really blocked for all Networks? As far as I know it will be blocked for O2 only because the providers have no real agreement and no interrest to block any traffic. Just try it with another SIM/ provider......

IMEI blacklisted means that the phone will be blocked in all countries that respect the list. All UK operators will deny access to this phone.
There is no way to remove the IMEI from the list and I heard that the penalty for changing the unit's IMEI is upto 5 years imprisonment.
The UK takes phone theft as seriously as that.
For all those interested I'm afraid I've sold the unit.
Hi, did you ever try? I heard that this "database" of blocked IMEI's doesn't work properly. At least on the continent. Anyway it seems that he already sold it.
Cheers

IMEI Blacklisted!

Hello everyone.
I've been searching the forums and have yet to find a solution (at least one that I can perform).
Any way, I have a Softbank X01HT which is a re-branded HTC Hermes.
I purchased the phone in September 2007 from a shop in Hong Kong. I live in the UK and have been using my phone happily for the past 5 months. My phone was blacklisted bout 2 days ago and despite having kept the original box and receipt from the store as a proof of purchase, it seems there is nothing my network (T-Mobile) is able or willing to do.
Is there anything I can do to legally lift this Blacklist of my phone? If not does anyone know how to change the IMEI.
At the moment, I feel very upset about all this because I have bought this phone legitimately and have been using it for 5 months, and NOW... someone can just blacklist my phone?
I have read that there is a solution by using 'Wizard Service Tool' but I need to do something like change it's SPL to 1.1.1. Does anyone know where to obtain the SPL 1.1.1 and how to install it?
Thank you for much in advance and please please please spare me from comments like 'ITS ILLEGAL'. I realize that by UK law it is a crime punishable by 5 years imprisonment. However I have a genuine phone that was purchased legally and I have everything to go with it! If changing the IMEI of a phone that I own to an IMEI of another phone I own is illegal.. well.. thats just stupid.
dont know of any way to change the imei but
you could try to contact the police and ask their advice
being that it's usualy them who have the stolen phone's
imei's reported to and who have them blocked
i would likely have some advice
screen rotation icon for imate jasjar
after having my imate jasjar upgraded to wm-6, i lost 2 things, my video calling and the screen rotation icon. does anyone here in the xda family have a link that will restore my screen rotation icon back
Isnt that a bit off-topic harrio?
Thanks for the advice Rudegar but I have already contacted the police. They can find no record of a stolen phone with that IMEI and they even reffered me to the Mobile Crime Unit, who dont have any idea about the number being blacklisted. They recomended I talk to my network who said they cannot/will not do anything.
it would make sense to be that there would be some higher place to take it
to make sure that no phone company blacklisted phones of people who simunlocked and
left the company for the compatitions
maybe thats a thing to look into
first step would prob be to try another network sim to make sure that it's a general blacklist
Yeh I have tried. It seems to be blacklisted on most netwokrs but works on Orange.. strange? The funny thing is I bought the phone without a contract already unlocked in Hong Kong so there would be no reason for the network to even blacklist it.
In Australia, we have a "Telecommunications Ombudsman" who we can escalate matters to after exhausting options with our phone company.
Is there something like that for you?
It does sound unfair - good luck with it.
Oggy.
Contact the Citizens Advice Beaurau. There must be something you can do.
If all else fails get the police/mobile unit to give you some kind of written confirmation on headed letter paper that there is no ban on your number.
Send t-mobile a friendly worded but grievence stating email about there having banned your phone for an undescernable reason. State in it the dates and times of your previous calls.
Then get your hands on a legal 'Cease and Desist' letter template from somewhere and send something like this:
WITHOUT PREJUDICE: IMMEDIATELY CEASE AND DESCIST.
Dear Sir,
I am contacting your company (Herafter refered to as 'You') on behalf of *your name* (Hereafter refered to as 'The Client') to inform you that Your blacklisting of The Client's phone is unlawful. This letter calls for you to immediately cease and descist from all such unlawful actions.
Blah blah blah
You'll find templates and guidance for drawing them up on the net. Works much better if you can find the name of some applicable law to drop in.
Make sure you don't specifically state that legal proceedings will definately follow. State that if they fail to comply then legal actions 'may' follow and that their case will be refered to the business ohmbudsman, trading standards, and your local MP.
I should state right off the bat that I'm not a lawyer - I'm a medic. But I have found that cease and desist letters are sufficient to make most organisations instantly start behaving themselves.
Don't forget the 'Without Prejudice' statement - I believe it means something along the lines of you do not wish anything said in the email to harm your rights to compensation etc....It's a very lawyerly phrase anyway so it's always good to chuck in the mix.
You should be able to find guidelines/templates for cease and descist letters on the net
Good Luck!
Citizens Advice Beaurau? Never heard of them. Are they a British organization?
Just to clarify, here is what I've done.
Contacted my provider T-Mobile. Provided them with Receipt of purchase and a box. They did nothing.
Contacted the police. They have no record of a phone being stolen with my IMEI number. They recomended contacting my provider T-Mobile.
Contacted the mobile crime unit in the UK. They said that that I would have to take it to my provider also as only the mobile phone companies in the UK can unblacklist.
Anything else I can do?
Does T-Mobile UK have shops like in Germany (called "T-Point")?
The people there were always friendly to me and helpful.
Randvegeta,
I would walk down your nearest high street, find a T-Mobile shop, walk in with all your evidence and don't leave until they have sorted it. It is essential that you are polite but firm.
One thing that puzzles me; you live in the UK but have never heard of the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)? Strange.

I have a hypothesis... it is only a hypothesis so please don't take offense. It can be tested, but maybe not easily. Here it is. You have been scammed, your hermes is not genuine it is a device that failed QC and was discarded by HTC. Your vendor in HK is dishonest. Contact HTC somehow and ask them about the IMEI, explain your situation and find out if they know anything. They should have a record of every phone they manufactured and may be able to tell you whether yours was sent to a retailer or to the garbage bin.
If I'm right at least you'll know for sure what's wrong.
If I'm wrong... well you know that too and maybe you can advance the ball a bit.
Good luck
Ive already been to a T-Mobile shop. Not helpful at all. I beleive Ive almost exhausted all legal options in the UK at least. I think there are only 3 more options.
1: Contact my supplier and ask for help/replacement.
2: Give up on my phone and let it be lost at my expense.
3: Hack/spoof the IMEI.
I think you'll find that T-Mobile don't have to help you as you purchased the phone from an indipendant supplier unless of course it was them who locked it, you are well within your rights to demand a copy of your account information under the Data Protection Act, this could include your account managent info which may identify whether they locked the IMEI or not. I guess the other option is to try and locate who exactly locked the IMEI, not even sure where to start unless you can find a very helpfuls service engineer at T-Mobile.
As said above, contact HTC, they may be able to help, but your first port of call should be the guy who sold you the device.
The shop I bought from.. im fairly sure is quite reputable. It has been arround for a while and is in in the Wan Chai Computer center. I will of course ask but I do not for a moment believe that they sold me a dodgy phone. And it certainly wasnt defective. It was in perfect condition and everything worked. Besides, there are hundreds of legit shops in HK selling the exact same phone. I just bought it from them cuz they had it in Black.
IMEI Barring.
The Flaw Is In The IMEI Blocking Procedure.
I Used To Work For Vodafone And All That Is Required To Bar A Handset, Is An E-Mail Containing The IMEI Only.
Unblocking A Phone However Is A Very Difficult Procedure. The IMEI Ban Database Is Shared Between All Countries Of The EU. Because Of This Most "Stolen" Phones Are Shipped To The Middle East And HK CH JP etc Who Dont Use This Database.
That Said And Done Tho They Should Know The Reason For The IMEI Ban And If Its Because Somebody Reported That IMEI As A Stolen One They Could Check Your Account And See That Your Account Has Been Using That IMEI for The Last 5 Months. And Therefore Couldnt Possibly Be The Stolen One As The IMEI Has Only Been In The Database A Short While.
Its TOO EASY To Make A Typo And Blacklist A Non Stolen Phone.
Prime Example. Your Phones Broke And Gone In For Repair, You Borrow Your Friends Expensive XDA For 2 Weeks While Your Phone Is Repaired, You Give Your Friend His XDA Back and Then Your Newly Repaired Phone Gets Stolen, You Report Your Phone As Stolen And When They Check The System Your Friends IMEI Is The Last One You Were Using On The Account, Employee Doesnt Check Propperly (Copies And Pastes Your Friends IMEI Into A Blacklist Email) And Your Friends XDA Gets Banned.
It Could Prove Quite A Pain To Resolve This Issue..... But...
Call Your Customer Support Desk For Your Mobile Network.
Ask For A TEAM LEADER/MANAGER ( They Can Do Anything For A Customer To Keep Them Happy, Their Privaledges Exceed Those Of Normal Staff And They Can Sort Problems Beyond The Means Of Your Average Callcentre Staff)
If A Problem Gets Escalated To A TEAM LEADER/MANAGER It MUST Be Dealt With. (Company Policy)
They Might Offer For A Team Leader To Call You Back As Their Usually Busy, Althought Your 100% Guaranteed To Get A Callback By A Team Leader As Long As They Werent Jus Fobbin You Off.
I Wish You The Best Of Luck Sorting Out This Mess.
Hey OllieD,
Sound very in depth. Ive already spent hours with T-Mobile with no luck.. but will Vodafone help me out? At least tell me who blacklisted me.
As for this database, is it only Europe wide? Or is is World wide? And if it is EU wide.. are you 100% sure?
Just to clarify to people reading, I am using a SOFTBANK, (Japanese Brand) purchased in Hong Kong, and have been using it since September.
If it is an EU database and not a world wide one, I will need to find out who blacklisted it and contact them.
Thanks very much!
Since you are using Softbank, so it should not be blacklist as it should not be used in EU before. please check carefully your IMEI on the phone label match your IMEI inside the ROM, I think the shop clone a English rom to your phone before selling to you (original Softbank should be Japanese rom) and this clone the IMEI also which IMEI reported as blacklisted. (they clone the rom because of sim locked and change English, what they called it is hard-modify not soft-modify)
I stayed HK and I had 2 phones with same situation (label IMEI were difference to the ROM) but still can be used in China and HK, 5 more phones buy from another shop without problem.
The shops you buy the phone with the phone came from the same dealer, so no luck to change, only some shops you can trust.

Help!! How To Flash A New IMEI # ??

Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me. I lost my phone (Vibrant - TMobile) and had to go through insurance to get a new one, the deductible was $130, then days later I found the damn thing but insurance won't take the new phone back and refund me now! So my cousin wants to buy it from me but when I went through insurance they placed the IMEI on the lost / stolen list which blocks the IMEI from logging onto the network rendering the phone unusable. I need to flash a new IMEI so that my cousin can go ahead and use the phone.
How can I flash a new IMEI? Please pm me
Thanks so much for the help guys, I'm really in a frustrating jam!!!
ALL YOUR HELP IS APPRECIATED!

I called back and plead with them and they said they are going to review the case and get back to me within 20 hours! Whoo hoo, I hope they will let me send the extra phone back and refund me then my problems would be solved!
i wasn't aware there was such a thing as flashing another imei#
To me it sounds like you were trying to use the insurance to get an extra phone and it didn't work out so you decided to plead and come up with a Story. Changing IMEI numbers is not something legal or easy to do and i dont believe anyone here can help you, or will help you with the whole process.

"to me it sounds like..." its the way i saw it because i always get people telling me or friends to sell them my phone and get another one from insurance, therefore considering the phone must be brand new, people usually keep it with them at all times, so i came with my own conclusion. HOWEVER it doesnt change anything.
Changing an IMEI number is not legal and while it is possible, it may be a hard proccess...

No i am not that person, and im sure this is by far the first half useless reply i posted in my 400 post count as im usually very helpful with fellow android users. i do lose my phone in the house sometimes, and i know its somewhere in the house, and my friends dont really steal from me or any of us so i can fall drunk on their house and have them take care of my phone and even take my calls..
Point is, Even if you knew how to change an IMEI, you are not allowed to post it here, or in barely any forums or Sites. Therefore the Best Advice is to Google it and see for herself. at the very least. just sell the phone for repair or parts on Ebay and keep the new one....
OR
The IMEI has been blocked by all US GSM Carriers, sell it to someone outside the US using Ebay again and get more $$$$.
Is that helpful enough???

Geez, now you're telling her to sell it? How pessimistic can you get? Always assume the worst, dontcha?!?
Joking aside, if a phone was put on a blacklist, and it's found by the original owner....couldn't the IMEI just be removed from the blacklist in a legitimate (read: legal) manner?
It also doesn't hurt to try this, http://tinyurl.com/2un6urs .

its funny how the first link on Google is this Thread. Probably because you used the exact same question along with the exclamation points.
For some reason I was thinking that US carriers didn't blacklist imei numbers. Used to work with a guy that had access to some hot cell phones, they all supposedly worked with just a sim swap. Just att and t-mobile ones tho, no cdma.

for all those that dont know a sim card phone can be stolen and used no matter what just place another sim card in the phone gsm networks run by the sim not the imei esn or meid
You could always just have your cousin say he bought it from craigslist, unless you have the same last name then it'd be suspicious.
imei problems with registration in turkey
Hi there
I know this will probably yield me a "no its illegal" reply but please hear me out on this. Im a good person!
I moved to turkey 6 months ago to work here as an IT teacher in an international school. I brought with me my lovely HTC HD2 which i had hacked using XDA software to now run andoid (was very pleased with my phone). registered my phone here with my passport. The phone then broke and while trying to fix it I snapped some of the internal data cables...
I have my old HTC wildfire here but cant use it on the GSM network as im only allowed to register 1 phone to my passport every two years!
I know its not technically allowed but i was thinking of changing the imei on my wildfire to that of my broken (but registered) HTC HD2 and was figuring if i got caught for it that they would see that the imei number is in fact registered to me anyway.
I have searched high and low for solutions for this. I found the Iwizard but I think that this was released in 2007 and my phone was released in 2010 so i am presuming that this will not work. also had some problems and questions about using activesync on my windows 7 computer along with presuming that I cant connect an android phone to activesync.
As I said before. Im not tying to commit a crime here but just trying not to go out and spend lots of money (and phones do cost lots of money here) on buying a turkish phone.
if anyone can help then please let me know
my email is [email protected]
cheers..

Many people often come up to me in the street and say, you look like a bit of a geezer (their words), do you know how to change my IMEI to clone that of another phone legitimately purchased within the state of my draconian governement?
I will typically retort with a chuckle, and then the following diatribe:
CHANGING YOUR IMEI IS VERY LIKELY TO BE A CRIME IN YOUR COUNTRY
Now, you may well be a pimp or snakehead already, so no worries relatively speaking, but understand that changing IMEIs can result in a prison sentence or castration, not merely a slap of the wrists. One way or the other, you won't be bending over in the shower if this is a crime in your country and you're found guilty. The law is there for a valid reason, if not necessarily a good reason.
Please check the law in your country before considering changing your IMEI.
You should note that in these days of heightened terrorist threats, if your phone is found to have a false IMEI and you also happen to have a beard and a beautiful tanned completion, you're likely to be spending time with wires hanging out of your orifices, so again, think twice.
I have no place to speak for the administrators or other moderators of the board, just for me, but my view is this:
The board is called XDA Developers. We develop.
The fact that you gets newbs, rubes and non-dudes on here is by the by; our raison d'être is to develop. That entails research and development, so for me, researching changing IMEIs may be a legitimate pursuit. Probably not, but maybe.
Next, recall that the administrators of this board researched and released pretty much the definitive solutions for IMEI changing, on older phones at least. That's part of the reason this board exists. I would be a hypocrite to jump on anyone else carrying the same flag. However, anything that will potentially get the board in trouble will be stopped.
So once again, lube yourself up well before considering changing your IMEI.
And please, be nice to each other, eh?

[Q] "No Service" on unlocked Orange Hero

Hi, I bought this Hero on eBay in April, as described in this earlier thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=674267
I unlocked it and successfully used both Orange and o2 SIMs in it, until today.
Now I have a "No Service" message whichever SIM I try to use. I tried cleaning the SIM contacts, restoring earlier Titanium and Nandroid backups and eventually restored the official Orange 2.73.61.66 ROM.
Still no service.
Maybe it's become blacklisted. How can I check this?
Regards,
Mike
there isn't a way to check sadly, have you updated to the lastest radio, it works will all unlocked heros
here's a link
http://www.theandroidkitchen.com/fi...wnload=update-radio-32A-6.35.08.29-signed.zip
You can call up your service provider (either o2 or orange) and check whether the phone is blacklisted.

I love the way you've linked to an out of date radio. My sig has a link to the latest radio (AFAIK).
Thanks for the advice. I'll call the network operators involved.
Can I install the newer radio on the currently non-rooted phone or do I have to root it again first?
Mike
No - but if you update to the latest official release it should also update your radio. Either way is fine. Personally i'd say try the network first - they should give you a straight answer.

Thanks,
the straight answer from o2 is that the phone is not blacklisted. This seemed like a genuine, considered and helpful response, so it probably wasn't a fob-off but who knows for sure? Maybe I should get that response in writing before I pay to have the phone repaired, if such a repair is a realistic possibility.
Do radio versions become obsolete as they're superceded by newer ROMs?
I ask because from what you suggest above, it seems that wiping the phone yesterday and installing the official Orange 2.73.61.66 ROM, would've installed afresh the radio version associated with that ROM, which still had the phone showing "no service" after the installation.
Maybe installing the very newest ROM will have a better effect.
Because I'm not yet managing to pinpoint the solution, some details of the "No Service" fault might shed enough light for someone to suggest the cause.
Yesterday morning there was "No Service" using the o2 SIM which had been working OK for 4 months. Replaced the SIM with an Orange one, which worked for 10 minutes, allowing calls and texts both ways, then the Orange SIM began to display the "No Service" message constantly after this short period of functionality. This is what made me think that some sort of blacklist process was being introduced by stages, rather than it being a direct functioning/non-functioning hardware or software fault state.
Mike
Completed the 2 part update of 2.1 Orange ROM to see if that would fix the "No Service" problem but no improvement.
I recently found a thread where someone with a HTC Dream pulled the phone apart and reseated the antennae wires to successfully recover from a constant "No Service" problem.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/4468-antenna-replacement/
Maybe the Hero is sufficiently similar for me to carry out this kind of remedy.
Perhaps I should try to get written confirmation that the phone isn't blacklisted before stripping down the hardware.
Mike
Sounds like you may want to phone orange before opening the phone. I think they have blacklisted the sim or the phone. You may well still have some form of manufacturers guarantee from HTC also.
it was Orange locked, unlocked to o2, worked fine. When you put in an Orange sim, it then decided to say no service. To me, it seems that either didn't like that Orange sim, so have blocked that, or didn't like the phone being on their network, so blocked that. Possible the phone could be an insurance scam, or that the SIM could have been registered as stolen or something (albeit incorrectly).
07973100150 from a landline / other phone. They should hopefully be able to help.
as above, it sounds like it is an insurance scam, where they sell the phone then wait a while and tell the company that it is lost.
its a big problem with buying phones off of ebay; you never know if your phone will eventually be blocked or not.
http://www.checkmend.com/uk/
that is the site that the met police recommend you use to find out if a phone is stolen.
I called Orange and they told me that the phone is blacklisted as it
has been reported "stolen or lost". Orange said that contacting eBay
and resolving the matter through them would get the blacklisting
lifted.
I spent most of the rest of the morning trying to negotiate the eBay
online resolution procedure but it doesn't recognise items bought in
April.
I telephoned to speak to an eBay person and contacted a lady who told
me that the 45 day dispute period was over and my only recourse was to
take the matter to the police.
Maybe there is a PayPal resolution possible so I'll try there next.
I don't see a lot of point in trying to contact the seller under the
circumstances.
Regards,
Mike
Don't contact the seller. I would leave it to Orange and contact the police as well.
Definately phone the police, The seller has commited fraud, or had originally stolen the device themselves. I'm shocked at eBay, they should be helping with this due to fact that, again, it is fraud / theft, disregarding the 45 day policy. I'd see if you can phone again and get someone more understanding.
I agree with btdag, definatley don't contact the seller.
Remember to keep records of all correspondence with police/eBay etc, as this will likely turn out to be insurance fraud, where the seller has reported the phone stolen or lost. By reporting this to the police, along with your proof of purchase from the seller (ideally paypal information showing seller's address), they should be satisfied you actually purchased it, and will likely end up chasing up the insurance company that paid out.
The seller will likely end up being done for insurance fraud here, so make sure you don't do anything which could prejudice legal proceedings, like contacting them. This is a matter for the police now.
Just my $0.02
Thanks for all the good and detailed advice. It's more convincing for the fact that everyone is offering a similar opinion.
There's just one aspect of the situation I'm concerned about. This is based on the suggestion by some people elsewhere, that the blacklisting by Orange could be a mistake. Something that is not uncommon it seems. I'd like to ensure that the blacklisting is not a mistake before I approach the police on this matter.
Once I'm convinced that the blacklisting is for a genuine reason, I'll follow the advice given here with gusto.
Regards,
Mike
use the checkmend site to make sure its actually stolen.
its recommended by the police, after calling orange its your other real alternative in finding out.
i cant see how it is oranges mistake. if it was a fault with your sim, fair enough, but you tried with a different network, no?
personally i wouldnt bother with the police. id just resell it on ebay as faulty and chalk it down to a lesson learnt and never buy a phone off of ebay again.
thats just me though.
This happened to me when I bought an MDA Vario 2 (HTC Hermes) from eBay. ebay won't help as the seller just waits for a few months before committing the fraud. I tried eBay and Paypal with no success, and reported to the Police who were predictably uninterested. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm afraid you're stuffed - lesson learnt, I don't buy phones from eBay any more. T-Mobile customer services told me that it's very common, and that if you buy a second hand phone you should ring the network and register it as yours - that way if someone else tries to report it as "lost" the network won't do it.
Cheers,
Tim

How do I trace a stolen phone by IMEI, and how to catch a thief

I sold a phone on Ebay to somebody in Cyprus.
The buyer claims he never received it and filed a claim, I lost 300 bucks and a mint HD2.
I found out the buyer now sold a similar phone on Ebay too, approx 3 or 4 weeks after I shipped mine. I was able to get my IMEI number from T-Mobile (very helpful, I was impressed).
Can I find out where my phone is ?
Buyer ID was " closedosier " now he changed to "gericy"
IMEI 357779030232175
Kinda sounds like they pulled a fast one on you and actually got the phone then sold it but told you they did not get the phone. Could T-Mobile not track it with the IMEI? I wish I knew of a definite way for you to track it via the IMEI. I did find this on Google though, here is the whole list Google pulled up. best of luck man.
Did you tell tmo to block the imei too while you were on with them? That's about all you can do, since its involving separate countries.the main prob with that is most countries have their own blacklists, so it may not do anything, but with a hint of luck the buyer gets it blocked and complains. You don't get it back but at least the seller loses out and gets a dodgy seller review.
Just gonna have to claim on your postal insurance, (please tell me you sent it "signed for",, if not,, well,, no comment)
TMobile cannot block it since it is not their phone anymore, I already asked, I have to file a Police Report.
I mailed it Priority with tracking, but it stops at when it leaves the USA, no tracking to Cyprus. Insurance was declined since USPS does not publicize well they don't have insurance for some countries, and guess what....Cyprus is one of them.
If the guy that bought the phone from by buyer/thief has actually my phone, I feel sorry for him too, he'll get a surprise very soon since the IMEI will be reported as stolen, and he'll get scammed.
Blimey, I think I'd go into the theft business too,, no proof of delivery?? Its a wonder anyone sends anything there at all!
All hail the British post office!

Yeah it sounds like the person that bought/stole the HD2 knew of the no tracking and knew they could get away with it. That sucks that a world wide company like USPS can not do anything else for you. I think you should press the matter with USPS myself.

definitely....
USPS cannot do anything since there is no tracking and no insurance, I already went this route.
My only alternative, now that I have an IMEI is to file a theft report with the police dept. here then I can open a case with FBI and IC3 which are federal agencies working on international frauds.
I won't see my money back, but at least the phone will be listed as stolen, IMEI on blacklist, and will never be able to be registered.
I just feel sorry for whoever bought the phone from my buyer/thief

Shame those blacklists aren't global, if it goes outside of Europe/us it will probably work. Most stolen phones end up in Africa or the middle/far east where they couldn't care less.
As for the new buyer, did you email him to let him know to check the imei? (I already pointed him in the direction of this thread, fingers crossed it will black list and he'll complain about the seller.)
Next time be sure to inform the buyer that there is no insurance offered and no refunds. I've sold an hd2 to a similar place where insurance wasn't offered and made sure to tell him this.
It's not your fault if it gets lost in the mail. You sent it.
Also, if they didn't like it. You could have easily sold it to someone else.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA app
I found out the new Ebay ID for the guy is gericy
Beware of this person.
Apparently this guy does not know what the law is. Guess what, after I posted this thread on XDA he contacted me begging to remove, and claimed the fact that he "forgot" the claim, and he was "away" for a while.
He doesn't understand he broke the law and he should be punished. Try to rob a bank then when the cops find you return the money and say I'm sorry, you still go to jail. This is exactly what he did.
He refunded the money to me after making him reverse the neg feedback he left on Ebay, but then I found out he uses different IDs, probably to avoid consequences.
To all out there be careful if you buy anything from gericy
Cool, result!

Amen brother !! Don't underestimate the power of XDA !!!! It can catch thieves too.
Hah yea, shame it couldn't catch my burglar who took my xdaIIi and plasma telly. (tho it did get blocked so I assume it got thrown.)
AWESOME MAN!!!!
Glade you got your money back and keep pressing the issue. Dude should have to pay the consequences of his actions. Never under estimate the power of being persistence and the power of the internet.
Not sure you can do much other than what you already plan to do.
Also, I am not sure why would you risk sending your phone outside of US without the proof of delivery - $300 is $300 ... lot of money if you ask me...
Anyhow, best of luck and next time DO NOT SELL IT INTERNATIONALLY!
