I have TomTom 6.1, Mapking 10 and Miomap 3.21 installed on my Tytn, working with no problem. Of course they cannot take control of the external GPS device at the same time

you have different map for each program right?

Yes, because each program has its strong regions covered:
TomTom: Western Europe, US and Australia
Mapking: Asia
Miomap: Eastern Europe, Israel, UAE/Dubai
Latin America seems to be a weak spot for all...
But Miomap maps are compatible with iGO and MyGuide (same engine). On UMPC/PC I use Map&Guide 12 maps with M&G Travelbook 5 (offers GPS routing on UMPC).

Try running GPSgate from franson.com
That allows you to connect multiple applications to a single BT GPS. Works great.

Thanks, i have installed TomTom in the phone, and now i'm trying to install mapking, but the phone pops up with "momery very low", is that why i installed too many program in the phone?

go to start settings and then memory
it will show you in the main tab how much free memory you have,
I would advise to install any main system apps on internal memory and another other apps you have onto external memory such as your micro sd card,
hope that helps

Dear All
looking for your assistant, i have Myguide 3000, purchased from Dubai, and only has UAE maps, it was never updated,
is there any chance to direct me to the best update source, and is there any chance i can upgrade to GCC maps?
thanks

Shock, Horror!!! TomTom seems to have done quite well!!

Hi Guys,
As you may have read from previous posts, TomTom & I have had a very stormy relationship! Add to that huge memory leak problems on my XDA IIi & I was sure that Nav5 was going to get the usual thumbs down, but after removing the O2 Active UI by following the instuctions here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18963
(didn't even need a hard re-set!!! my memory is fine now.
Loaded Nav 5 onto my unit from update CD
Then loaded all the maps from the 6 CDs (Hmm, that bit is still very naff but better than with Nav3), they won't quite fit onto 2 1gb SDs, & activated the free trial of TT Plus.
Then I drove from Sudbury, Suffolk to Dover via London, using the GB map, then on to Belfort, France (near Swiss & German borders) I always go via Luxembourg to avoid the french tolls. put in Belfort and Main Roads of EU kicked in from main app. it immediately asked if I wanted to avoid the toll roads, clicked yes & lo & behold it found my tried & tested route! Impressed! What's more it din't crash once
But when you get an incoming call it cuts of your GPS connection but then (most of the time) it re-establishes it (tho sometimes you have to re-configure, but that's now a lot easier if you use a TT receiver)
Last night used it all the way to Roskilde, Denmark, tonight we're off to Kristiansand, Norway. So far so, very, good!!!!
See! When something's right I big it up! I don't only whinge about the negative bits!!!
So far it's a big well done to TomTom for this version (XDA IIi-wise anyway)
Same here matey. Recently installed TT5 with GB maps only onto my XDA 2. No problems at all, connects within 20secs, never crashed yet and even works when receiving calls on my bt headset. GPS doesn't disconnect and when I hang up, it shows me at the correct location.
GENIUS
ive got an XDA2i and my TT5 seems to crash more often than not. especially when searching for POIs (ie take me to nearest petrol station... CRASH)
i admit i am using a hooky version, but if it's this bad i wont be buying it! (which i intended to)
im running an XDA2i with corporate install (no O2 Active UI) and an aftermarket bluetooth GPS.
its also annoying that TT5 disables bluetooth when you quit, and its v. awkward to re-enable it whilst driving (its a little button afterall...)
I'm using a hooky version too. TT5 £10 from ebay!!! Works like a dream. I've got an XDA II, removed 02 Active UI.
Bluetooth doesn't disconnect when TT5 is ended. I must be so lucky!!

I'be got a ~5mb patch which will fix this problem, EVERY time I turned on certain POI's it would crash
Not any more and it seems MUCH more stable.
If you've got anywhere I can up it, let me know.

Jim, there is no way of knowing what bugs can arise when using patched/cracked software. I never use bluetooth gps either since I got an xda because I see so many problems, also if its for car use only I think a wired gps is more practical/reliable.
@ PC_Arcade:
You could always post the patch here, but if not then you could always PM me with the patch, it would be HIGHLY Appreciated!!!!!

OK, I've PM'd you the patch
Please could you upload it to the ftp for me (I'm @ work and I can't use FTP) so it can be linked here?

Just for the record I am a legit user and I like TomTom 5 just for one reason and that is the street signing, its like somebody is holding the sign out for you to read as you go along, neat.
OK, the patch is here
I have been totally unable to upload it onto the ftp here
Could someone please move it to there so I can change the link?
Thanks VERY much for the patch Arcade, have yet to test it, but I'm sure it will help. Installed it into the "2577" folder, is that correct? Its the only one with "ttn.cab" in it.
On a seperate note I want to install TomTom on the main memory of my XDA, with the maps still on SD card. I've heard this helps. Anyone know exactly which folders I need to copy to memory? Is it all, except maps? How will TTN know to look on the SD card for the maps though ?
Chop - thanks for success story, I brought the XDA and TTN5 expecially for a road trip around europe in a months time. Although I'm taking paper maps for backup, I was hoping I would be able to rely on TTN5. Don't think thats gonna happen now.

Not quite, you need to copy all the files in the rar over then run the .cab file. which will re-install TTN5
For safety's sake it might be work backing up your data.chk file as well.

The easiest way is to reinstall tomtom using the patch I posted and just install it to main memory, it will automatically use the maps on the card
All I have on the storage card is the GB map directory and an empty tomtom directory, hope that helps

TTN5 is fantastic, I can't remember how I lived without it
It's incredibly stable now too, although I did have to create a blank directory called tomtom on the SD card to get 7 digit postcodes to work
to make the postcodes work you need to put the file in a folder called zip in the root of the sd card.
Hi all
Could you tell me which file i have to put in the ZIP folder on the SD card?
@ pc_arcade : Is it the poi.dat file that is patched or the ttn.cab ?
Will it only work for GB map or for all maps ?

It's the content of the cab file that contains the patched files
AFAIK it works for all maps, can anyone confirm?

Best GPS Navigation Program For Hermes?

I recently purchased a GPS unit for my Hermes and am very interested in knowing what navigation programs everyone likes for traveling. I'm going to be using this in the US and occasionally in Canada - thanks for your input!

I used TomTom 5 and now Version 6 with no issues at all. I've seen co-pilot live 6 up and running and I'm very impressed with that too, but TomTom has never let me down before, so I'd recommend that.
i 2nd tomtom navigator 6 (apart from the lockup sometimes when it sarts its great)
I'll give that a shot - thanks much! It's pretty pricey but it looks to be the best out there!
Tomtom 6 seems to do the job.. expensive though, very old maps in some cases, people in the US have been *****ing about it doing silly things.
Here in australia though, no problems so far. Although I'd like a map update to tell it of some local changes..
i am using tomtom5. it's ok, although sometimes it hangs the hermes.
Best GPS software depends a lot on your location; because of it's obvious purpose, the most important things are area coverage and maps quality, then comes the interface, POI management and so on... Tried TomTom Mobile and iGO and stuck with the latest, because the maps are far better and precise (in Romania where I live).
For off-road I use GPSDash, it has all the features some might need + the posibility to create user maps.
Entire USA in 1GB microSD w/ OCN5
Any body tried OnCourse Navigator 5 on their TYTN? I think this GPS software blows TomTom away w/ seamless USA fitting in 1GB microSD. ETA,elevation, speed displayed in 3D mode, map refresh rate of 4fps compared to the usual 1fps with the other usual display-(like time and next street to turn)
I just hope it is compatible with the Tytn...
Try iGo Europe 2006 (http://www.i-go.com/en/products/iGO_2006_SD/screenshots.php). VERY FAST and has less problem than TT. It also has better graphics.
The downside is that the POI listing sucks. If I search for McDonald's around my current location, it'll list those from 100 meters to 50 kilometers! The software enough to know I won't drive that long from my current location just to get a fries.
Well, I got Tomtom6, but my GPS unit that was supposed to be shipped to me today was reported as out of stock - so sounds like I'll be waiting a few more days to try it :/
I use the Garmin Que software with a Garmin GPS10 receiver. Works great. I own the North America maps as well as the Europe maps. Have used them extensively in NA and in the UK - very happy with the combo.
When I researched the options, the above combo was rather cheaper than the TomTom option.
If TT works then most other software will work too.
I've a few other programs I'm going to test to make sure they work but assuming they do then I'll have the folllowing installed and to use:
GPS Tuner
GPS Auto
VisualGPSce
Memory Map
Navigon Navigator
try mapopolis
mapopolis has a free demo. at 99.00 it is cheaper too.
I've been using it for a year on my harrier, and now on my 8525. Works pretty well on both.
I use an I-blue gps. sensitivity and reliability is very good, mini-usb charger is non-standard pinout though.

Indeed, however, not unless you already own the software
the software is free to download. you pay for the maps only. to download the app, go to demo maps and the first step is downloading the app. the demo maps are short lived, but full function. I think you can keep downloading them over and over when when they expire.
iGuidance v3.0.1. It is excellent!
Everybody says "tom tom" because it's the most common name. After doing my research I settled on iGuidance and could not be happier. Good luck.
I'll definitely have to look at that too! My GPS unit is backordered... I'm still waiting on it ><
The problem w/ iGuidance is that you cannot fit the entire USA on a 2GB microSD. Map file is 2.5GB

can anybody tell me how & what is the step to get the GPS works ?

what are some of the best gps software for ameo?
I would think google maps with the ability to real time track your location would be great. Anyone try that?

Dopod U1000
Hey!
I have an Dopod U1000, which is the Advantage/X7500/Athena but on the Asian market.
THe first and biggest problem I have is that the GPS is not working. I cannot get a GPS-fix, but I have contact with the actual GPS-unit.
It doesnt matter where I am or for how long I wait - I have never got a fix and once every now and then I get 1 or 2 satellites with very bad connection - but never a fix.
I talked to HTC about this and they didnt know anything about it.
I then, when I asked around, got a weird answer from a company here in Sweden. They guessed that since U1000 is for the Asian market they may somehow have "preprogrammed GPS" information, so that they use Asian satellites. Sounds very strange to me - as far as I know they are not geo-stationary so the satellites goes around and thus there are not specific Asian satellites.
Anyways, anyone know about this issue? Suggestions?
Thx!

the Global Positioning System is global, and should work anywhere on the globe !! apart from in war zones (and near US military bases) where the signal is sometimes deliberately degraded so enemies cant use satellite guided missiles.

This is also a big problem in Germany - it's not possible to get it working with Google Maps. We tried everything (also to disable the GPS-Splitter and use Com5 which helps with some programs, but not with Google Maps).
So we gave up for the moment waiting for an update (maybe Athena, maybe Google).

Got mine working in TT6 by doing:
Other NMEA GPS Receiver
GPS Baud Rate: 4800
Com4
Is this what everyone else is doing ?
is the Baud rate correct?
Its quite chuggy/slow compared to tt6 on universal. i.e. 2-3fps as opposed to almost smooth on universal
Also, is it possible to change that tomtom icon thats on the today screen ? its so ugly and blocky - really detracts from the otherwise lovely Ameo screen
Mine is working great. By the way, i'm using MapKing10. When setting the port just select auto and the software should be able to detect the port in use. My unit can lock on into the satellite signal in less then 5s, thats impressive.
Hi
Does anyone know where to get a copy of the aforementioned TT6 for free? I had just bought TT navigator 6 with GB + Western Europe for my Mio A701 about 3 months ago but was gutted to find I couldnt transfer the licence to my new Ameo so i sold the boxed product with the Mio.
Anyone know where I can get one (strictly for "backup" purposes of course).
Cheers
Very easily found on torrent sites.
I won't give a link here as I assume that would be frowned on by the management....
ok, will have a look. not that familiar with all this torrent stuff!
ta
GPS Port
I looked in the registry and I found that com 5 is the official port. Strange enough com 4 and 5 work.
Getting GPS working
I purchased an A701 last week and had one hell of a time tring to get TT6 to work, even though MM worked fine. It appears that some software originally designed for ealier MS does not like Com4. I loaded a program called VisualGPSse, a freedownload, and set that to com 4 and bingo TT6 spang into life. Before using TT now I lauch that small app and it works fine. I,ll try and find the link if Google doen't find it for you.
ps. Does anyone know of an app that will allow me to use hands free, my Mio Rom R65 seems duff in this area.
getting GPS to work
I've installed my vehicle navigation software (copilot live v5) without any problem twice.
But when I tried to instal another GPS-based application called MobileGolfScorer, the system was simply unable to sense any satellite signal. Not only that, the system became extremely slow to the point of freezing up and not responding.
Then, I read about the post that says com5 is the default, so I said to myself may be I should use com5 instead of 4 in my start>setting>GPS.
After changing to com5, my MobileGolfScorer was able to recognise signal although the signal was extremely weak. Also, it was no longer freezing up. I thought that may be I've at least solved the problem and the weak signal may be due to the fact that I was not directly under the open sky.
The new problem is that after changing to com5, my copilot stopped working! When trying to reset GPS within copilot, it just said that I either did not have the GPS connected, or I was having the wrong com selection and/or baud rate. I tried all possible combinations of com and baud rate (including letting it find automatically) but unfortunately the results were the same.
Then I thought to myself may be copilot can only use com4. Since vehicle navigation is a more important application to me, I may have to sacrifice MobileGolfScorer until the problem is resolved. So I went to start>setting>GPS and reverted to com 4.
I then tried to get copilot to work but now it would not. MGS also would not work. So now I have two GPS applications that are not able to sense any signal. I can see the gsm led orange light(GPS) and green light(phone) alternating, which means that the GPS is supposed to be working, althoug the orange light disappears by itself after a while. The thing is, with or without the orange light, the software were not able to sense any GPS signal.
What do all these suggest? Any idea???
Chapter 2 to my story:
Since I'm also experiencing MD lost cluster problems, I had wonder if it could be that some system files used by the copilot program is corruptted. So I decided to hard-reset the unit and reinstall everything from scratch again. The first thing that I did after hard resett was to instal MobileGolfScorer. It did not work when I used com4 and baud rate 4800. Could not detect any GPS signal although the orange light was blinking. Then I installed Copilot live Pocket PC v5. This software has no problem detecting the signal right away. In my mind, it seems to suggest that the reason for copilot to have stopped working could be due to file corruption, while MobileGolfScorer still for some reason could not detect it. What I also failed to understnad is why for a very brief period it did detect very week signal (see chapter 1 above).
My fear: Once I was so confident that com4 and baud rate 4800 solves all problems. Now I'm less sure what is going on. If you're lucky, it works; if you not lucky it does'nt seems to work. You could be doing exactly the same thing entering the same setting but you could get different results. Is it due to file corruption? Why does it get corrupted so easily?
Let's hope some smarter mind could figure this out for us.
Its all about the sucky comport management in windows.
If one app is accessing a com port, no others can.
If windows GPS management is accessing the GPS on com5, then you shouldnt connect to com5 yourself. The whole point of the windows management is that the software port (often port4) it creates is meant to be able to be read by multiple programs.
However, most programs dont seem to like the software port. Eg, googlemaps.
I just turned off the MS GPS management and only use apps that directly attatch to com5, and only one app at a time.

Multiple GPS Software on sprint TP2

when I had my TP1 I installed a 3rd party GPS program and my sprint gps stopped working. SO I assumed that the 3rd party gps connected itself to the gps receiver and disconnected the sprint gps and I couldn't figure out how to reconnect it. Is there away to avoid this or to switch which software is connected to the gps receiver
I have an swedish TP2 wich I have an app called pocket kartex for some swedish specifik maps and iGO8 installed, wich both works flawlessly with the builtin GPS, in one of them I had to choose com4 in the GPS settings, but that was the only thing I had to do to get it to work.
But I can only use one program at a time that uses the GPS-unit.
Hope I didnt missunderstand your question, and sorry for my crappy english.
I have a Sprint TP2 with Telenave, IGO8, Garmin, Google Maps, and TomTom installed. All of them work. Some have more lag than others but they all work nontheless. I have a 16 gig card that has them all.

Best GPS Software For The HD2

I will not be testing any free GPS Navigation software.
I will begin testing the following GPS Navigation Software for Windows Phone tonight.
I will be posting reviews for the major ones with tips to tweak the settings to get most out of your Windows Phone.
I will also be testing the Radio Firmwares and see which ones play nice.
Start off with
Garmin Mobile XT
TomTom
Navigon
Which other ones should I test?
Try CoPilot Live
I have CoPilot Live 8 installed on my HD2. It picked up the GPS receiver with no work on my part. Accuracy and speed seem good. It did not lag behind my actual location. I am curious about the quality of routes calculations versus some of the other programs. That's a software issue, not a GPS or HD2 issue.
I find that Garmin has a pretty bad lag on my hd2 with the stock class 2 card. IGO also has a lag but it's not so bad.

I experience no lag at all in Garmin Mobile XT 5.00.20

I'm using an energy rom with 2.10 radio. What maps are you using? I'm using the 2011 maps which I had on my portable car garmin gps. Lag meaning as I drive past one street it'll take a second to actually show on the unit that i'm passing that particular street.
IGO8
I've been using IGO 8 for about 2 months now.
i had some problems initially getting it to pick up
on my gps receiver. I opened up google maps let that get
a fix on my location then opened up IGO8, fixed the problems.
i like this software (aside from no landscape)
but haven't tried any of the other ones so
i'd be interested in how it will stack up against the rest
I would also like to see CoPilot tested if you can. I tried the android version and I keeps getting a location half a block away while google maps reports my location correctly. I'd like to see your experience with it since it's a very cool looking program and has spoken street names.
The Garmin mobile xt runs beautifully on my hd2, I ran it side by side with my old 855 and they were step by step. Often tbe hd2 locks on to satellites quicker due to the agps. It ran so well I gave the 855 to my sister
I own TomTom 7, and just installed it today after purchasing the HD2 yesterday. Picked up the internal GPS perfectly fine without adjusting any settings. Runs very smoothly, trip calculations are fast, and it looks awesome on that big screen. Only thing I am concerned about is heat from sitting on my windshield mount in the sun, as I've read that some folks have had issues with the phone resetting when it gets hot.
I'll be interested to read anything else that your testing might come across.
the best one is NDrive
I use NDrive on my hd2 with no problems.
I tried many versions, but the only that works for me is:
NDrive ver.: 3.5.25 (856) DI
maps ver.: v.2.13
i'm new user and can't post links(remove spaces)
MOD EDIT:: LINK REMOVED
if anyone tried newer versions please let us know.

You should really take a look at my sticky which can be found in my sig. Not only would you have landscape but it'd look crystal clear.
Double. Sorry

Not only are you new and can't post links, but you also might want to take a crash course on the forum rules. Posting links to warez sites is not allowed.
I removed the link in your post. In the future, please do not post such links.

I'm currently testing Garmin & TomTom
I will update with screenshots and maybe a video soon.
If anyone needs their GPS software to AutoRotate let me know.
It's an easy fix and does not require installing yet another application on your phone. Regisry tweak packaged in a cab.
Have a link at my other post about Garmin Auto Rotate and you will see.
The same can be done for most programs not just GPS Navigation.
Primo all the way
The best IMHO for HD2 is Primo. Which is next version from iGo8. I use Primo 1.1 with 800x480 data. Works like a charm, including TTS.
Suprisingly Good...
I was on a trip last week and realized I needed to find the route to a hotel from the airport. Since I didn't have a GPS device, I went into Bing and had it calculate my route. It gave me turn x turn voice navigation and I was able to get to the hotel with no issues. It was clear, direct and fast. It gave me plenty of warning when my next exit or turn was coming up based on my position.
Since I don't use Garmin or other GPS specific devices, I don't have much to compare it to but since this was free, no worries!

I use TomTom too - no probs here and i dont have any heat. The only thing with TomTom is that the company has ceased to update the navcore for win mob devices so the nice stuff that is available on the dedicated TomTom devices isnt available on PDA eg:street name voice.

Where did you get TomTom v7? I just checked TomTom's site and the only mobile navigation I see is for the iPhone.

Just do a search in TomTom website for TomTom Navigator. That's how I get the latest TomTom Navigator. I believe its version 7.917 if I am not mistaken. Also, someone in the forum posted that cab file somewhere here. Just do a search.

Any chance you've got a link? I still couldn't locate it on TomTom's site.

I don't think searching is necessary, as it's probably removed if a cab file was linked to (piracy).
Have you tried one of the air vent mounts that are available? They are all over e-bay. That would keep the HD2 out of the direct sunlight. I don't know which vent mount to suggest because someone gave me mine, and it doesn't have any manufacturer's markings on it.
