Anyone know what this is. I have the phone tethered (bluetooth and/or wired) and I have seen this sometimes come up.
Dialed: isp.cingular
The answering modem has disconnected.
To check your connection settings and
change them if needed, tap Settings.

Even though I get this message, I actually still have connection while tethered. If I click dismiss on that icon that pops up, after a few minutes, it pops up again. Is this normal and is there a way to shut it off?
Anyone tethering the 8525 get this same pop up?

Is there a way to hide this window? I'll be working in a document while Flexmail is working in the background. Every now and then the connection drops and it needs to re-connect. When it re-connects that darn window pops up saying it's connecting and I can't enter anything onto the screen I was working on until it goes away. Maybe there's a reg setting I can motify? Or maybe thre's a setting on the phone I overlooked to not have that window pop up?
Settings->Sounds and noification->Notifications, find Connection establish and choose what you want.
I can't beleive I didn't see that. Thank you
how or what can you do to get gprs to turn off after it logs in checks pop mail . can you get it to turn off by its self when done using the connection rather then checking mail and staying on untell you manualy turn it off?
GPRS normally only charges by data throughput, so having it connected shouldn't cost you anything.
However, given the number of loose programs that like to heartbeat data, you can (if not already available) use the reg hack to show the GPRS disconnect button, press and hold the red key, or use VJVolubilis to disconnect GPRS.

I've got the disconnect button already but I have trouble reconnecting. I always seem to get the "cannot connect due to modem being disconnected" bubble appearing and can only go back online with a soft reset or using the flight mode off/on trick. Is there a better way?
Phone connections work fine, but I can't get a GPRS connection going. When it tries to connect (ie when I do a send/receive in email), I immediately get a popup that says:
Cannot Connect
Dialed: wap.voicestream.com
The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings[...]
Two 'links': one to settings, one 'dismiss' button.
My settings haven't changed. Even if they had, what should I look for? They are super-generic settings- modem is "Cellular Line (GPRS)", obviously the AP is wap.voicestream.com. Username/password/domain are empty.
Try calling t-mobile and have them reset your internet connections and see if that helps.
I'd agree, the connection settings you quote are correct so it sounds like an account issue
that did it. they had me turn the phone off, they detached me from the tower, then I turned the phone back on.
"reset the tower" or something like that.
Glad that helped.
I've had to call in to reset my connection numerous times.
Especially when I'm travelling between towns while being online (for my messenger and streaming audio).
Not sure if it's an issue with my Exec or T-Mobile.
So if you're getting connected to a tower (or not) and you're not receiving any data....then call them and have them reset it.
Travelling- hmm, that probably explains it. I was using it a couple hundred miles away and having a little trouble, then I came home and started having a lot of trouble.
Anyone know what the hell is going on when internet kicks you off without telling you, and its not tmobile shutting me off. When you try to reconnect, it's either waiting for network, or it gives a bubble message trying to connect but wont. When you disconnect by tapping the "E" while it is connecting, it won't disconnect (I'm thinking its either trying to download something, even though no internet pages are open, or anything to my awareness is downloading)
ANY IDEAS????
Thanks!
Not sure, did you clear your temp internet files?
Hi! I just started getting this message constantly: "Connecting to T-Mobile Data, Connecting to GPRS" around every hour or so (along with an audible alert which is the problem). I don't know what it means, or how to change it. I don't seem to have any problem using the phone, but the constant audible alert (ie. at night) is what i would like to at least stop. I do not have a data plan, I only connect to the internet with a wireless connection. Thanks so much.

No, settings - cellular and inside cellular you will find data conection and set it to OFF.
OFF means you will only have internet conection and sync only when you turn wifi on.
