Phone connections work fine, but I can't get a GPRS connection going. When it tries to connect (ie when I do a send/receive in email), I immediately get a popup that says:
Cannot Connect
Dialed: wap.voicestream.com
The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings[...]
Two 'links': one to settings, one 'dismiss' button.
My settings haven't changed. Even if they had, what should I look for? They are super-generic settings- modem is "Cellular Line (GPRS)", obviously the AP is wap.voicestream.com. Username/password/domain are empty.
Try calling t-mobile and have them reset your internet connections and see if that helps.
I'd agree, the connection settings you quote are correct so it sounds like an account issue
that did it. they had me turn the phone off, they detached me from the tower, then I turned the phone back on.
"reset the tower" or something like that.
Glad that helped.
I've had to call in to reset my connection numerous times.
Especially when I'm travelling between towns while being online (for my messenger and streaming audio).
Not sure if it's an issue with my Exec or T-Mobile.
So if you're getting connected to a tower (or not) and you're not receiving any data....then call them and have them reset it.
Travelling- hmm, that probably explains it. I was using it a couple hundred miles away and having a little trouble, then I came home and started having a lot of trouble.

For some reasons, I am having problems connecting to their GPRS server when the connection bars are full(4 bars on the phone). I am using the MDA with cingular service, but I am sure the settings are correct. I've even installed a 8125 rom and used it's settings..
I live in houston, and work a few miles from basicly it's business center, and a few more miles from downtown. Cingular has excelent coverage in my area, all Edge, and G3 is also availiable.
The problem is that I am having no problems with the phone side, but the internet keeps disconnecting or not reading at all? How can this be? Aren't they on the same band? I have to "search for network" in the phone settings to get GPRS to connect, but then the internet will only work for a few minutes and stop working again. The E symbol with the transfer animation is still there, through the animation is not active, meaning the phone is connected right? So why isn't my internet working? I am really at a lost of what to do.,
Is this a problem with mobile internet or is it my phone?
The bars only tell you something about the carrier.
So the carrier is good, it doesn't mean the GPRS/UMTS in working properly.
You still can face problems like no IP-adres, Gateway, DNS etc.
Occasionally I have the same probs in Holland, but then I disconnect/reconnect is sufficient to resolve the problem.
(disconnect by holding the "end call" button for a couple of seconds.
Maybe you have some interference in the neighbourhood?
Try another part of town, if that doesn't help, visit a service center and see if they have a device that can connect normally.
Or maybe you know somebody with a working Universal to test at your place?
If there was an interferencem would it only affect certain carriers or all GSM carriers?
Also, the holding the end call button doesn't seem to work in disconnecting and reconnecting?
How to stop my wizard\Qtek 9100 from dialing while I am connecting to wi-fi?
I was testing my wireless the other day and evey time I did a search on internet explorer it seemed to be connecting to my net work provider.
Do I need to do something when I am using my wi-fi so it dos not connect both to wi-fi and to my network provider?
And can I down load Skype for my phone? And dos it work well, is it worth doing if I can?
if some one come back to me THANKS
Lucky for you, ive been working on this lately and just figured it out. Here's how to eliminate your wizard's annoying attempts to connect to services that you don't have.
Disclaimer: this will work for sure only on WM5, and ONLY IF YOU USE WI-FI AS YOUR SOLE SOURCE OF WIRELESS INTERNET CONNECTIVITY. it is not intended for those excessively wealthy folks who actually have $40 a month to blow on a ****ty, 56k-esque GPRS/Edge connection from their cell service provider, and almost certainly will cause lots of problems if you do decide to get this service in the future.
1. Go to settings, then connections, then connections again (there's a connections submenu in the connections menu)
2. Tap the advanced tab at the bottom of the screen
3. Hit the select networks button
4. Go to one of the drop-down menus, it doesn't matter which one
5. Pick the first connection, hit edit.
6. Hold the stylus down on each entry you see then select delete
7. Hit ok, repeat steps 4-6 for each and every connection listed.
Now your phone won't have any connections besides wi-fi configured, which means it won't try to fall back on them and annoy the hell out of you whenever your wi-fi drops.
Also, get a different browser, Opera or NetFront work well. PPC internet explorer keeps you from viewing the real version of web pages and limits you to the cruddy PPC versions (if they exist at all)

All I can say is that with diagnostic skills like that thank God your not a doctor!!
Just-In
I had a similar problem over the Cristmas period where even though I had a good WiFi connection my Wizard insisted on trying dial up a GPRS connection (even though it is set as always on). I never got to the bottom of it as I decided to give Faria's 3.2 ROM a try. It has never happened since.
With regards to the Skype thing, if you go to skype.com there is a model specific download for one of the Wizard variations I can't remember which one it is but you will recognise it when you see it. It works a treat when I am on WiFi and most of the time with Edge but it only works with the headfones connected otherwise the sound comes out of the main speaker.
I've tried searches but come up blank on this.
When at home, I'd like to lock onto only my wireless net and have the device ignore all others it detects (like all my neighbors' nets).
Reason is occasionally it will try to attach to other networks in preference to mine, even though it is clearly the strongest signal. Very annoying.
ATT WM6 shipped rom, ATT branded 8525
Any advice? Or point me to an appropriate prior discussion?
EDIT-----------------------------------------------------
Found a solution of sorts.
I went into every UNWANTED network and put in the following settings:
Connects to - WORK
This is a hidden network - checked
Authentication - WPA2-PSK
Data encryption - AES
Network key: bogus random keystrokes
Use IEEE802..... - checked
Now if I attempt to connect to another network - whether it is available or not - or if my net goes down temporarily, the 8525 tries for just seconds on the other entries then eventually reverts back to mine! Exactly the end result I wanted, just not the path I hoped to take. (lol)
I did a sort of reverse war-walk around the neighborhood. I collected all the net names and put in the above settings. All is happy now.
I don't know WHICH setting from above is key to the result. I don't really feel like exploring this further.
Go to Settings--Connections--WiFI.
Delete the unnecessary network cards (other routers that you may have used in the past) and leave only the one you want.
Should auto connect to yours only and if it's not there then it will start to look for others.

Thanks. I've done that in the past, and just did it again. As I've been writing this reply is has been connected just to my network, but now the two others are also back onto the list.
For whatever reason, my home wireless router will occasionally drop and then come on again. On my laptop, I see the little balloon in the bottom saying "unable to connect to preferred network" and then a moment later, "Connected to XXXX". Even though the other networks can be seen, they are not in the preferred network list, so they never cause a problem.
On the 8525 I haven't found anything like the "preferred network" list, and the little tick box that says "Automatically attach to non-preferred networks", so when my router drops, it goes off and tries to attach to another net. It actually does make communications link, but not connected fully because they are protected networks. It does not drop them and come back to my net when it comes back up.
Am I just missing this somewhere in the settings? I think I've been to every option available and haven't found it.
Hi guys. If you don't remember me - here's my story in a nutshell. I got a 8525 about a week ago. Since day one I tried and tried and tried but never managed to get the wifi working... (as you can imagine I am beyond desperate at this point)
Anyway last night I got thinking and decided to give it another stab. I hard reset, messed with the settings again...and this time manage to get a little further. My phone is now showing me as "connect to network", only problem is I get a message saying "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change connection settings, tap Settings." each time I try to access anything internet related. I know I'm close especially since I'm actually connected now, I think it's just AT&T's rom doing everything it can to get me to use their networks (I'm on T-Mobile and don't have a dataplan anyway...).
Anyway can you guys think of what the problem might be? I'm so close I can taste it! Thanks.....
Bump... Anyone home?
where did you get your 8525? my wifi on my 8525 works perfectly fine, have u tried upgrading to WM6?
I have WM6 already. I got it off ebay. Everything is perfectly fine with it, it just doesn't want to use the wifi connection to get online.
Try a hard rest.
my 1st 8525 i got off ebay, and it worked great up until a few weeks ago, when the screen stopped functioning it just turned white, i called AT&T and they sent me a new 1 i just got it this morning and now, i cant make calls >.> it will ring then my phone will say i have no service when i have full service and the call will end. but my wifi is fine... did u use the WM6 upgrade that was released by AT&T
No thanks re: the hard reset. I've already done that... If I can't figure this out I'm going to sell my phone and steer clear of ppc phones. I like it, but I bought it for wifi and this is just getting ridiculous. I have tried everything. I've spent hours and hours on this. I've reset my router god knows how many times, played with security settings, reset my phone over and over to start over.....
The worst part now is that I know it's connected. The wifi aspect is fine. It's just the stupid phone not wanting to use the wifi connection for the internet.
Maybe someone with a 8525 and a Linksys router can post ALL of their wireless related settings for me.
Ekh
Yes I used the AT&T update.....
i use wifi and my linksys router, the 8525's range isnt that great u need to be within a few feet of the router to get good reception, im about 30 feet from mine and i get 2 Wifi signal bars and an ok speed. but try this
Start > Programs > Proxy Manager > Disable Proxy
then try to use your wifi, then go back and restore the proxy when your done, i think some 1 told me to do that because att uses that so u can use their internet service or sumthin
Thanks but I'm way ahead of you. I've already tried every piece of advice I've come across on xda. My last hope is someone elses detailed settings.
is your network passworded by a WEP or TKIP ?
It's WPA... My device has the password, and I added the MAC to my router table. It's connecting to the router/wifi...
...it's just that my device won't use the connection
* Sigh * Looks like another one of my please help me posts has gone dead...again...

Your problem may be one of the following:
1. The wifi connection is specified as connecting to "work" and programs are set to use an internet connection.
2. The wifi connection is specified as connecting to "internet" and programs are set to use a work connection.
Nope that's not it. But it does remind me of something so thanks. I deleted all the connections seeing as I don't have a dataplan... I made a new connection called "Wifi". BUT, it's not like I can specify any connection for it so it's just blank (no connection specified). By this I mean the options for a connection are:
bluetooth, cellular line, cellular line (GPRS, 3G), Generic IrDA, Hanes...COM1. No option for wireless...
Does that help?
Check that your router is set to allow connections by devices with 802.11b, which the Hermes uses. Most default to 802.11g only.
It's set for b and g
Helloooo...?
Hallelujah!!!!!
People, I have WIFI!!!
Thanks to everyone who tried to give a helping hand... It's really appreciated.
For future reference to those who are suffering from the same problem - this is what seemed to fix it... I entered google into IE via it's IP address rather than it's name (open command prompt, ping google.com...). To my surprise the page quickly loaded. I then instantly realized that the problem was with the DNS settings. I opened up "Wi-Fi" in settings, went to the "Network Adapters" tab at the bottom and entered in the DNS addresses for "IEEE 802.11b/g...". If you need help with this just PM me (I consider myself somewhat of an expert on this topic now).
I thought I was never going to get online. There IS a god!
Hi all, Searching all over for answers. Appreciate your help very much, not to be long-winded, but trying to be detailed. I've posted this message on other forums with no replies. Looking like not a common problem.
My phone Samsung Omnia SCH-i910, has the Verizon GPS unlocked ROM i910.10 V.CF03.2096 (WM6.1 Pro), don't think it's an issue here. My trouble is after using WiFi, will not work with cellular data. (Does not always happen, but seems to be related). Will "connect", but cannot download email, and cannot display web pages. After spending a hour on phone with Verizon support last week, went through 3 reps, finally resorting to hard reset cleared it up. Been working fine since today when try to connect wireless again. Another issue that may be related, I have a Linksys WRE54G range expander at home, which has been working great. The access point/router is at business 800 feet away with a parabolic antenna pointing at house.
For some reason mobile devices have trouble with it, as did an LG LRM-519 that I've since given up. PC clients have no trouble at all, get "5 bars" anywhere at home, but Omnia (or old iPaq H2215) will not connect through range expander. I believe trying messes up Omnia will not communicate over cellular afterwards (without hard reset). Earlier this week close to AP, no trouble switching from WiFi to cellular and back again. At home Omnia will connect to WiFi, but signal is weak, and useless as far as email and internet. I know if I get closer to router/AP will be able to connect and download/upload fine. But EVDO data still not working, reviewed all the settings again, deleted the wireless network settings, soft resets, *228 programming, changed around "My ISP", "Work", and "Connects to Internet" settings. Not sure about "Hidden Network" checkbox, thought at one time might have connected through range expander at home with 5 bars on Omnia with box checked on, but was not consistant. What does this setting mean?
I know a hard reset will fix the issue, until next time. Like to find the real answer to avoid again having to get it back to where I like.
"Next time" is here again, searching for the true answer before having to hard reset.
Thanks for your time and help.....
