No phone service after battery change - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi,
I've recently replaced the battery of my MDAcompact. Since then, it will not connect to the network, even after a hard reset. With two of the SIM cards I've tried it actually crashes just after the PIN is entered. With a third it's stable but doesn't connect to the network ('No service' in the telephone display). For this third card, the MDA displays the correct phone number and PIN change is possible, so the connection to the SIM card does not seem to be the problem.
I have no clue what's going on and what to do now. Should I start to read about the ROM upgrade thing - would that be promising in this situation and maybe the last thing I can try?
Thanks,
Wolo

no, i think the battery is bad, it happend with me before and when i changed the battery it works good again

I've reinserted the old battery to check that. But same problem as before

Sim Card ??

Hi All
Have searched to see if this has been covered before ! but a bit of help for a newbie please
Is it possible to remove & replace the sim card without the unit losing all data etc ??
Only had the XDA11 for a couple of weeks,,all set up ok ?? with tom-tom etc, The other day had to remove the sim card for the day, so disconnected the battery for under 30 sec's, to remove the card, and replaced later that day, also within 30 sec etc, on powering up again,
all data was lost and the unit started to reload as a new unit again, is this correct,
Hope this makes sense
Best Regards TJ
I have a number of devices that I swap sims with regularly and have no problems as you describe.
Changing the SIM shouldn't cause it to hard reset only soft reset.
I have had a device that had the main battery flat but still kept its settings over a weekend on the backup battery.
Have you checked the level of the backup battery in the Power screen to see if there is any charge in it?
Thanks tyfy
Yep checked the batt levels before taking the card out, about 80% and 100 on backup etc,, but as you say, it did a hard start
Regards TJ
I can confirm the hard reset thing when I swapped SIM cards. Annoying at the time, but provided an impulse to update to 'latest' ROM. Haven't removed the SIM since, for fear of the same thing happening. If I could ever get home PC, work PC and home iMac properly synched and backed up, I'd remove it again to see what happens. Occured to me at the time that T-Mobile might have been up to some software tricks, then the paranoia left as suddenly as it arrived
Thanks Guys
I need to remove the sim card, so to fit the inbuilt carphone, O2 do not do 2 cards on the same number as yet !!
So !! is it possible to swap them around without having to do a hard start every time ??

Hi cruisin-thru
Thanks for the link, not quite what i am looking for,
I need 2 cards ?? with the same number, or a way of moving the card from the XDA to the car and back again without doing a hard start every time ???
Regards TJ
Did a full back up to my SD last night, then checked the battery levels, = all OK, pull the battery and SIM, counted to 42 reinserted the SIM, battery and catch for battery, and everything normal. ALL data intact.
If you have a sim that is a few years old it is possible to clone it, the modern sims however will not work as the protection has yet to be cracked, if you do search on sim clone in google you will get lots of info. If you do manage to clone your sim make sure that only one phone is switched at at any one time or you may find that the security system on your network will zap the sim if it sees 2 identical numbers logged on.
Hi Guys
Thanks for the help,, been away over the weekend,
Took the card out Fri night, (took less the 20 secs) to put into the car system,,,,guess what, another hard start,, now sat here reloading all the stuff again (ie Tomtom ) etc
Had about 80% batt power with 100% backup,, i must be doing something wrong somewhere, can not belive this happens every time the card is removed !!
Regards TJ
Are you turning the PHONE off as well as the PDA? ie: set to flight mode before you turn it off. Maybe that's the problem?
Hi All
I think GaZ,s suggestion might have cracked it !!
Remove the tom tom chip, did a back up to storage card, and put the phone into flight mode, then removed the sim card within about 15 secs,
all OK !!,, have tried a couple of time and so far all ok
Many thanks to you all for the help, appreciated
Regards Tim

Removing the Sim Hard Resets...mith or not?

I have searched here but can't find the answer anywhere but... - O2 activated my Sim card apparently 24 hours ago yet my new 3G sim still isn't working in my XDA Exec - therefore I'm assuming the salesperson took the Sim Card serial number down incorrectly.
Today the sales girl on the phone asked me to reread it, but a day later I've now customised my XDA Exec, installed apps etc, and remember reading somewhere that removing the battery and sim hard resets back to factory defaults...is this correct or not?
No.
Thanks! Is there a limit on the time that you can leave it without the battery attached?
No limit, because the exec has persitent storage. So everything ist stored in flash.
Just give it some seconds in sleep mode after closing the device to write the last changed data from RAM to PS (Persistent storage eg. internal flash).
You have all the time you need to change battery and SIM-card.
When you switch back on everything is there again.
when changing the sim all that occurs is a soft reset due to the battery being removed. I love persistant storage, i can swap sims to my hearts content.
Ahhh brilliant, better than the older XDA1 then, hehe!
Many thanks

Losing Network mid conversation

When i make a call if it lasts more than about a minute the phone cuts off and the phone shows no signal, after a while the searching bar comes up next to the ariel icon, eventually the signal comes back, but at no regular time, there is no problem when the phone is not being used i.e. it only happens when i make or recieve a call. Tried soft and hard reset and not cured it, also tried changung network settings but this also has no effect, contacted works I.T. department who own the Sim in my phone and they say there is no problem with the network so it must be my P.D.A. help please. P.S. not too much tech jargen please dont know a great deal about the inner workings of the P.D.A. system.............thanx
I don't know how old your device is but it could be your battery that gets easily drained when making a call. My device was 18 months old with its original battery when this happened. After replacing the battery problem was gone.
Any other solution to resolve this issue ? I am pretty sure the problem is bcoz of the battery coz the moment i plug it into the usb port of my laptop, it comes alive (network signal is back)
Try 2 change the panel ...Put original Panel...100% it will work
what Pannel you mean? have similar problem...

Restart phone during conversation

I recently bought a Touch 2. So far so good, i think.
But wen I pick up a phone, sometimes during the conversation
my phone reboots.
In the phoneshop they returned the phone and gave me
a new one, but unfortunatly i have the same problem.
Someone knows the reason? and even more, the solution?
It is possible to be from the SIM.Try with another SIM.
Or at least try to change the sim card, and do a hard reset to see if it happen again.
already done, had a simcard that was aged. But the problem still exists with the new simcard.

HELP! x10 keeps on rebooting/restarting with a sim card in!

Hello guys, I am having a problem with my unbranded x10i bought in UK (I am currently using it here in the philippines with a local sim card) . After I did an OTA two days ago, it just keeps on restarting/booting! I have tried the "repair" option twice in the PC Companion software but still no luck.
What's strange though is that when I tried switching the phone on WITHOUT a sim card in, it booted up with no problem (and I checked the build number, it says R2BA020 which probably means the OTA update was a success). I put the sim card back in and the problem came back, it kept on restarting.
What seems to be wrong? Any suggestions on fixing it? I would really appreciate your help guys. Thanks!
Update: I successfully rooted my phone hoping that rooting would solve my issue, but unfortunately it still keeps on rebooting/restarting whenever i put ANY sim card in.
Have you tried using another SIM-card?
yes. I have used different sim cards...
Try flashing back the original firmware.. and make sure the sim card is inside the x10 while doing it. Worth a try..
I have the same problem too and I have just updated my phone to R2BA024 and the firmware version is still 1.6. I have hard-reset so many times and reinstall some many times. The problem still there. I have contact Sony Ericsson customer service and bought my phone to fix. Got it back, problem hasnt been solved. I have waited for 3 weeks for a reply from them and end-up they said they do not have any new phone or spare-parts to fix my phone. Until then, I have contacted them almost 10 times and still no one has the right answer and just keep asking me to wait. They dun even have an exact date when the parts will arrive. I am very piss off now and I dunno what I should do next.
Its the same problem here with me too. Bought the phone from a friend about 3 days ago. was going all good when it just started to keep booting itself. While the sim is inside, it'll restart just as it finishes booting. Without the sim, its fine. I have tried other sim cards too, and format/reset my phone many times but it just isnt working for me anymore. HELPPPP!!!

Is it 32K sim or 64K???
hi techguru, can u tel me wot the diff is between the 32k and 64k sim ? many thanks
ISSUE SOLVED here.
BTW : my sim is 64k.
anyways, i found out that the problem was because of the faulty battery. what i guess is that the voltage couldnt get to the requirements of the phone, and everytime the sim radio (whatever its called) switched on, the phone just turned off.
I reinstalled/repaired my phone many times, GOT the exclamation mark of death one time also, but the phone just didnt turn on.
Later i noticed that the phone would just turn on itself when i attach the phone to the charger, otherwise it wouldnt turn ON. So what i did was just change the battery, and walla, the phone is ALIVE again.
Sim is working, phone is working.
BUT i see some signal losses from time to time, otherwise the phone is good enuff.
FOR me , the change of battery did the trick, I hope it works for u guyz aswell.
Cheers ...

hmmm. sounds interesting. I might try changing my battery. btw, i have tried using both 64 and 32K sim cards but the phone keeps restarting with any of the sim cards in. without both the sim cards, the phone works fine. how much does an x10 battery cost?
here, i get the cheap chinese battery. it isnt expensive, but its working great. almost better than my previous battery.
cost me around 2.5$.
but.. i am still getting lots of SIGNAL DROPS. i dont know why it is happeneing. I tried swapping the battery with the original battery of another X10, but no change. Signal loss is not a battery issue then.
Any idea what it could be ??
Signal loss?
Maybe a weak signal, or radio related?
or maybe its because i updates it to R026 is causing the signal loss issue ??
@techguru
I am also using airtel, but with a 64kb sim.
In my case it does not start.
It start if with no battery or with a 128kb sim of TIM.
I tried to recharge the firmware but nothing seemed to change.
I know that someone solved the problem swithcing off the phone in airplane mode, but this is not the case for me.
I also noticed that in some cases the led is green and is slowly blinking.
I am ready to change the battery if this helps, but I am not sure. Even if I put it under charge it does not switch on and the battery seems not to charge
As I bought the phone only since one day I wonder if they will change it.
