Random numbers? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi folks, very simple (and undoubtedly dumb!) question for you...
I'm just setting up my new SPV M3100 and I hit the Signal icon on my Today screen to have a nose at any differences between it and my Wizard predecessor.
On the Wizard I have a regular signal indicator:-
Phone (Aligned left, just text)
T-Mobile (Aligned left, just text)
Turn on flight mode (Aligned right, hyperlink)
Settings (Aligned left, hyperlink)
Hide (Aligned right, button)
On the Hermes I have a signal indicator and a small "3" icon above it and:-
Phone (Aligned left, just text)
3G Orange (Aligned left, just text)
Orange GPRS WAP (GP... (Aligned left, just text)
4926:46:37 (Aligned right, just text)
Turn on flight mode (Aligned right, hyperlink)
Settings (Aligned left, hyperlink)
Hide (Aligned right, button)
My question is what are the numbers which look scarily high and what does the small "3" mean on the signal bar (3G signal maybe?)
Cheers all!

Well I figured that the "3" on the signal is my 3G signal strength but I still have no clue about the numbers. Seems to be some kind of data counter...

Stupid Questions: 1. how do you turn the xdaII off?

This is my first pda so please forgive the stupid questions...
1. I am at a loss as to how i can switch off the xdaII completely. I can dim the screen, and switch off the screen, but not the entire xdaII. The bluetooth light and the green light flash continuously, unless i remove the battery catch down.
2. is there a way of getting a better battery indicator at the top, without having to go through the settings menu all the time. I can't seem to create shortcust of any kind.
3. ultra profiler... is it just me... i switch it to silent and it makes no difference.
Thanks...
Why would you want to turn it all the way off? This results in what is known as a "cold boot" - everythng in RAM (even the current date & time) is erased and the phone goes back to the way you bought it.
I don't know how to do it on the XDAII. On the XDA you press a piece of the stylus into a little hole on the bottom.
Fais, on the XDA 1, to switch off both phone and pda, first either hold down the red handset button for a while or tap the signal meter top right of screen and switch off radio/phone, then hit the power button once for a very short time. This will switch off phone and pda. I cant comment on xda2, dont you have a user guide?

Well, you must turn off the PDA part and the telephone part separately. For the PDA part, there's a hardware button (which I guess you knew already... ). To turn off the phone part, tap on the antenna indicator and select the first "link" in the bubble that appears. On an MDA I, the phone could also be turned off by holding the red "hang-up" hardware button for a few seconds. This does not work with the MDA II. It's not clear if this is a bug that will be corrected through a software update or if it's a feature.
Note that all that does not really turn your MDA II completely off. But you don't want that anyway, because you'd lose all your data and installed programs, as they are in RAM only.
There are many programs that can display battery and/or storage indicators on your "today" screen. Try searching for "battery" at Handango. The only program I found so far that indicates the battery status directly in the navigation bar is SmallMenu (http://tillanosoft.com/ce/smenu.html)
Cheers

1. Tap on the network indicator, on the right middle part of the Navigation Bar (at the top of the screen), then click on "Turn Wireless Off". Then click on the Bluetooth connection on the right side of the command bar (bottom bar), and select OFF. All your flashing lights will go off.
2. Download "BatMemTime" (find it on Google). It is a free today plug-in
3. I don't use ultra profiler. You may try "My Phone Profile" by JGUI, I think it has more features.

Thanks everyone for the replies and links to batt indicators... that was a big help!! i've been so used to the p800 that all this is so new to me... The manual doesn't make it clear for a non-pda user about switching the xdaII off.... not to me anyway.
Tekflow thanks... i can switch off the bt quickly and switch on just as easily now... and more important sleep without having to cover the phone with by jacket at night

GPRS Connection

Having upgraded from the XDA to the XDA2 I have noticed that after receiving a MMS the GPRS indicator in the top left of the screen remains on. I can switch it off by turning off wireless and then turn wireless backon to get the normal service indicator displayed. But do I need to deactivate gprs ?? . and am I paying for it even when I am not making a call or doing things that use the internet or messaging services
Thanks for any info on this
It should close
Brian
It should close after 7-10 minutes or so.
I don't think you're paying for it being open - after all it's gprs not time-based billing
It does not switch off after 7/10 mins, But I have noticed that a symbol appears in the top of the screen showing a phone with a white circle containing a X . This shows for a few seconds then disappears, This happens often ,
thanks
After sending or recieving a MMS my xda-2 stay connected to the GPRS wap connection, it dose not cost to keeep it connected, if you wish to disconect just hold the red end key for a few seconds
John
Cant get it to close using red key ????
If its not costing anything then I guess its OK
even if you hold the red end key for 5 or so seconds, dose it not "beep" and theen the connection drops, again not that it matters as its not costing anyway
John
No it does'nt
As mentioned in an earlier post a symbol appears on the top of the screen every so often
not sure then, But as to the icon (phone , circle and cross) i asked this ages ago and was told its to do with the IA caller id thats included on the XDA-2, The handbook shows the icon in one of the screen shots but nowhere dose it mention anything about it
john

'No phone serivice', but could still make call.. weirdness.

It's was 3 bars when I received a call, but as I answered it the call disconnected and the status changed to 'No phone service'. It's the status icon with the exclamation mark.
I tried to call back immediately (while with no phone service) and it worked. During the phone call, the status icon changed to the 'No signal' icon. It was still 'no signal' after the 5 minute call finished and took a few minutes before it updated to have signal bars.
I have poor reception in my room. It's usually 1-3 bars and mostly 2 bars.
It seems like WM doesn't update the status icon fast enough. Unfortunately I wonder if phone calls can come in while WM 'thinks' I don't have reception.
Anybody else notice this?

manila slow down because of the upper taskbar !

Hi !
I have noted that manila clock animation ( the hours and the minutes animation I mean ) is slowed down a lot when the "3G" icon on the taskbar blink !
I'll try to explain better, the weather and the clock animation start when, for example, you enter in the start menu and you came back to the home screen.
When the animation starts it all goes when but at a certain point the animation got stuck for something like 2 ms and this acutally happne in the very same moment of the blink of the "3G" icon on the upper taskbar. And this is just the lower aspect of this, it happen every time that one of the icon of the upper taskbar blink ( when the wifi is turning on, the bluetooth ecc. ). Is there any way to avoid the blink of the 3G icon at least when I came back from the start menu or from a program, I mean i don't care if this slow down happen when the bluetooth or the wifi is turining on but I would like to avoid this at least for the 3G icon that blink every time that I came back to the home screen !
any help ?

GPS

I am sure it is something obvious but my GPS symbol stays in the notification tray and never disapears. I have location services off and nothing checked in that settings. GPS is off as well from the settings bar.
Why would the GPS icon still show in the notification tray with all of these services turned off?

You're not referring to the E-911 location icon next to the wifi or cell strength indicator are you?
I don't think so. This is an icon that is next to Bluetooth. Like a target symbol, circle with a cross.
It isn't searching for GPS. The GPS ICON just never goes away from the notification tray.
