Hey everybody im a complete noob when it comes to the pocket pc range anyways my problem is i unlocked my phone to take a meteor sim card I can make calls recieve texts cant connect to meteors wap service probably because the o2 settings are still in place any suggesting on how to change wld be appreciated Also what exactly do i have to do to connect to the internet is my ISP the company that provides my broadband.
the settings depend on your operator / ips
your ips is your cellphone network your broad band have nothing to do with it you dont even have to have one
unless you wanna use bluetooth to connect to your pc and get internet that way
do a search for your cellphone operator and add GRPS in the forum
it's likely that ppl state the settings in posts before

Hi, got a new XDA Exec on 02 and am trying to work out how to get connected to the internet and email. Anyone got any recommendations for a good ISP? What is everyone else using?
Thanks for any help and happy new year!
hi!
happy new year to you too!
your ISP is actually your mobile carrier.... in your case, if you bought the exec from o2, then o2 are the isp
on an o2 exec, they are pre-configured for gprs or 3g internet access out of the box on the o2 network......providing you have used a sim that has data facilities enabled.....just click on the internet explorer icon and it should connect automatically
if you are using someone else's sim (i think the exec comes sim unlocked) then you will need to maually create the connections for that mobile provider (start, settings, connections, add new connection)
www.filesaveas.com/gprs.htm is a good source for all the major mobile providers settings
if you are connecting via wifi, then that is governed by the wifi device.....in hotspots it generally is pay as you go (btopenzone, tzones etc) but obvioulsy a home it is just picking up your home wifi connection
hope this helps!
Thanks!
Thanks for your help! I can now connect to the internet! I used the 02 settings. Also discovered the joy of there being Wifi at the station when the trains were cancelled but wasn't able to log on as it didn't accept the phone number it asked for when selecting O2 as the provider for some reason. Haven't worked out how to get email yet either but that's my next challenge!
Thanks again

Actually i want to build my own ISP service, i read about a RAS connexion but i am not sure.
can someone help me ?

the isp had to support to data gsm

i use a pocketpc and i read it is possible with pocketlance but i am not sure about the result in regards of the my objective (to be an isp provider for only myself) using poitn to point connection. any ideas?
I was thinking the same thing today after my broadband (lack of) problem. I am palnning to attemp something myself like this. I can tell you that it is possible and that I have in the past established a dial up connection from my ppc to my pc. It was using an audiovox rtm8000 gsm card, the gprs tool that came with it let me specify the number for gprs and when I used my home phone number to dial my pc with incoming dial up activated I was able to establish a connection and use terminal services client. This is not a practical permanent solution because the software expected the connection to behave like gprs, ie if it was inactive for a time it would quickly dissconect. I can get a telsta business plan (using my abn) that has 35c untimed calls so basically for 35c I could use my home internet unlimited - all be it at a very slow connection speed.
Yes it is possible to call a remote modem located on a windows or linux machine with a RAS installed.
However, to be able to tranfert datas, you need a data subscription in addition of your voice subcription.

That depends on where you are. Here (aus) every gsm sim I have bought had csd enabled on the same number for no cost. I have had friends who were required to use a different data number but thats a thing of the past here. Thats why I am shocked to find that Telstra disable csd on the roaming service they provide to 3(three) customers - I need it!
I would have thought it would be cheaper / simpler to "tunnel" into a machine using vpn having first connected to a gprs provider, as csd (data over gsm) is allways a charged call, despite many contracts saying inclusive free calls to local numbers (in the UK anyway)
i am done in my lesson how to SIM/CID UNLOCK my device also upgrade my cingular 8125 to wm6.
now here i am , a noob want to ask someone to help me to give me enough information about wi fi.,.. gprs here in philippines has a charge in our mobile network provider.. as long as i know.. wifi is a free internet access? w/c connects from WLAN? in philippines has a lot of substations for wifi (wireless broadband internet access for computers.)
am i right? can someone correct me?
Hi.
Just so you know providers in all countries charge for GPRS and they usually charge a lot unless you commit to a contract so you are not alone .
But seriously, using WiFi on your device is fairly simple:
on the left side you should have a button for 'comm manager' (little circle with waves). Press that and you will see a window with buttons to turn WiFi BT and other stuff on and of.
Also you can activate WiFi from Start->Settings->Connections.
WiFi in it self is not free internet access. It is just a wireless way to connect to a local network (you understood that part correctly).
Now, if the network you are connected to is also connected to the internet and set up so any computer on it has access it, then you can serf.
If this really is a free public access point then all you have to do is turn on WiFi on your phone, wait for it to find the network and pop up a question 'This network connects to: Internet / Work'. Select internet and thats it.
If the network is secure you will be automatically prompted for a key.
And thats is. If you have any specific questions let us know.
thanks now i know...
many places connecting to an home wifi without the prop security
is ilegal as the owner will be held responsible for any ilegal stuff the wifi litch

Hi,
I have a problem, while I share internet connection and make a phone call the phone change the connection technology form HSDPA to GPRS. How can I disable this function because I want to use fast internet connection even when I make phone call?
Using GPRS should not disable a HSPA connection. You can still browse the internet whilst on a phone call, which is exactly that.
You mentioned sharing the internet connection. Are you saying that you want to use the internet connection from your phone on another device whilst you're making a call?
I share the internet connection to my pc. I usually use vnc client through vpn tunnel and make phone call to describe something to my client. When the conversation starts the connection is changed form hsdpa to gprs. Gprs is too slow for vnc or remote desktop so I need HSDPA.
I know I can use GPRS and HSDPA or 3G at the same time, so this may be an issue with your network provider. Personally, I don't think this info will help me help you in the slightest, but it may help someone else help you...
What network are you with?
Is (was) your phone locked?
Where are you?
That info may well be relevant, as I do know that some setups can mean that you can only use one connection at a time, whereas most mean you can use multiple connections.
I'm form Poland and my operator is orange pl. What is strange hd2 is my second htc device. Previous device tytn II works without any problems also in orange network.
I have a question as well! I'm on tmobile and I live in south florida and I cant talk and use Internet at the same time, why not?
Turn off the Autodisconnect option. i had the same problem, as long this was turned on.
where can I find this option?
i had a problem when i was on a call. my Msn will disconnect after a few mins of call. any idea how to stay connect ?
Good Afternoon,
I was wondering if someone could advise me on my connection issue I am having. I have bought the Acer neotouch s200 smartphone on windows mobile 6.5. I have a vodafone sim card with data allowance however I cannot connect to any other connection set up other than my standard carrier service connection which are set up my the phone registers the sim card.
When I try to set up my new connection and click to connect and instantly get the 'The remote party has ended this connection'.
These connection details are the same details as I use for my HTC HD2 and I connect with my sim without any issue. I am raking my brains as to what I can try because everything ive done so far seems right...
Many Thanks
Lucy
