Hi people,
I have a very strange problem with my Magician. The batery power meter gets "stuck" at some value and doesn't show the actual power of the batery. I can force it to update by removing and reinserting the batery. Soft/Hard reset and taking off the back cover does not help.
What is even more strange is that it does get updated sometimes but very rarily (once or twice every two days).
Please help, I am worried that I might destroy the batery since I am not sure if the recharge is governed based on the batery power meter.
Thanks.

Hi All,
I have a battery/charge/pda problem: if i look battery status i read "Battery Unknown".
If pda is plug to usb/ac it won't charge.
If phone is unplug, it show me a message that warns me the battery level is low.
I try another battery, soft reset, hard reset, change Radio Rom, change O.S. but the problem is the same.
Phone plug/unplug: always "battery unknown" in battery status.
Any idea?
Up! No solution? Any driver? Any tools? any... any???

This is a tricky one to solve.
Here is something to try, but you may need to try a few times and even then yiu may not succeed:
1.
Remove the battery from the phone for at least half an hour
2
Using the mains charger (NOT USB) connect to the phone and switch on the charger (battery still removed)
3
Now insert the battery. Give it a while (up to 5 mins) and hopefully the RED no charge LED will change to Orange and charging will start.
Repeat steps 2+3 if it does not work first time.
If all that fails there is one more fiddly suggestion where you charge the battery a little using a couple of AA type batteries. If necessary I can give a few more details on that.
Failing the above then you'll need to get another battery (preferrably pre-charged at least to some degree.

Hmm, I have a (mostly) similar problem to this:
My 8525 (WM6 flashed) wouldn't recognize my battery (when plugged in, status light still just flashes green) but the battery still seems to hold a charge (I've run it for a day with outlook sync enabled, which usually drains the battery completely). Battery status is Unknown.
I bought another battery and the same thing happens. Tried it on USB, tried it on AC power. The battery indicator always indicates "charging" which makes me think that my year+ of owning this phone has knocked one of the wire connections out of place. Any thoughts?
(edit: I should add that I tried Mike's suggestion above a few times and the result was always that immediately after inserting the battery, the red charging light went off)
Can anyone give me some advice on my mda ameo,it keeps turning off and when I press the power button its like a soft reset.Sometimes it only gets as far as windows mobile and shuts down again.Any clues etc would be grateful, many thanks ANTHONY ps I've changed the battery but the problem is still there
I suggest getting a new battery - I had the same problem, a new battery fixed it. Most LIon batteries, irrespective of wear, tend to die after 2-3 years.
Hi my friend,I thought the same and got a new battery but the problem is still there !
Is the battery firmly seated? Every once in a while the lock on my battery will lift enough that the battery will disconnect. You could be getting just enough contact to start up, but once the power is flowing the terminals or battery could be be warming up just enough to separate. Have you tried to boot while its plugged in?
Hello people,
All of a sudden today after the battery of my topaz got empty I could not start it any more
I get to the waves screen with the rom information and then freezes...even the power button is not working...only battery removal helps
1.I can do a softreset but it doesn't bring anything
2. I can reach the hard reset menu but I desperately need my data
3. I can log to the bootlogger but I don't know what to do then
Any help wil be appreciated!

If you have drained the battery then the power may be insufficient to restart the phone.
Plug it in without a restart and leave it to charge for as long as possible.
You should do this from a wall socket and use a power supply giving at least 1Ah charge current.
If this doesn't work then the battery condition could be terminal, especially if your charging practice has been to allow the battery to drain as a matter of course. They don't like this at all and after a while the internal circuitry will cut off permenantly.
Then your only recourse is to buy a new battery.
Have you got your battery replaced? Has it solved the problem?
My phone has a charge problem, after 5 minutes on the charger, he stops charging (orange light becomes green...). When I try using it without charger, the batter seems to be charged 100%, but after a few minute, he shuts down, sometimes with a warning (of low battery), but mostly the battery still gives 99% and shuts down without warning...
When connected to the charger, no problems occur...
I already tried a soft reset and a hard reset (via buttons and via the settings)
Somebody thinks he knows a solution?
Sounds like a hardware fault either battery or phone its self
I agree, most likely a faulty battery.
thx for the very quick reply... I'm going to send it back. Found a forum where users of the HTC HD (1) had the same problem.
Hi, hope someone can help. Baterry went dead whilst on a call, it was low. Tried to recharge through USB "device not recognised". Tried power and Orange LED comes on momentarily then phone cycles through booting. Sometimes you can see the boot screen other time just the vibration is felt. Tried soft reset hard reset every which way power on whilst connected, power off etc. Removed battery tried again, same. Left battery out for 30 minutes, same. It now appears to be stuck in bootloader screen and still cycling. How long does one have to leave the battery out? What else can I try???
Jerry rigged another destop charger so I could align the contacts and got some charge in the battery. Put it back in and charging normally, phone booted up as though nothing had happened. No hard reset evidence.
