HSDPA VIA TYTYN FROM PC ..?? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi,
I was just wondering how to use my tytyn phone as a high speed modem from my pc..? basically I want to be able to connect my phone to laptop and surf at High speeds when on the move... anyone know how to do this..? I though you just connect via active sync and it defaults to your phone connection.. but any help is appreciated.. thanks..

You need to turn Bluetooth on both devices. Pair them together and have your laptop use the Dial-Up service provided by your phone. No username and password. Just dial *99#

Thanks fo your reply.. but I dont have bluetooth on laptop.. can I use usb instead..?

Ok.. I tried the following but it didnt work... ! I connected phone to laptop via USb, then started wireless modem on phone, laptop (XP) picks up new modem, created new dial up with moblie as modem and *99# as dial up number, I see connections flashing on mobile and dial up attempts to connect but fails on user/pass , I triedleaving them blank, then user/wap (im on t-mobile) none of which worked.... any help is appreciated...

I am watching this thread with interest too.
I have a Bluetooth adapter for my laptop but would like to see what the experts say on here first..

FINALLY WORKING WITH 800KBPS DOWNLOAD..!!!!!!!
I finally got it working with my t mobile vario 2 ... if you have the same then the APN is general.t-mobile.uk and uername /pass is user pass
the rest of the settings I got from this thread..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37298&highlight=gprs+laptop
Now im surfing the net at nearly 1mb from my car..!!!!!!!!

Awsome! Watch your driving as you're sniping that eBay item though

ive been using my hsdpa via my vario 2 over bluetooth today and its very quick, someone was saying that there speed slowed down dramatically when they used it over bluetooth but i can confirm that they were tell porkies. Ive done speed tests on many different sites today through out the day and got 1.7mb every single time.
It is just like using wifi at home on 8mb for surfing sites, obviously downloading is slower though

Modem-link Bluetooth howto?

According to the big Wizard thread on HoFo, the lack of BT as an option in Modem Link is MS design intent, but instructions for adding BT to Modem Link are in the i-mate document ‘Guidelines for using i-mate K-JAM as a Bluetooth Modem.PDF.
Does anyone have this doc, or does anyone know how to turn the K-Jam into a BT modem?
Thanks in advance...
Dox.
The document your talking about is here:
http://www.clubimate.com/support/KJ...r_using_i-mate_K-JAM_as_a_Bluetooth_Modem.pdf
but I haven't been able to get it working with my K-JAM and laptop using the MS Bluetooth stack. I keep getting the "error 692: There was a hardware failure in the modem". I've followed all the setups successfully but cannot connect. I can even query the modem from the laptop ?! Help anyone ?
Doh! Thanks firas... I was expecting some reg hack to enable it in modem-link, but all the doc says is 'use the DUN profile in the MS BT stack... I should have guessed... :$
I tried it, paired the wizard with my iPAQ 4700, set it as the BT modem and bingo logged into Skype (as a test) from the 4700 with no problem. 4700 has no GPRS (and wifi turned off), old nokia has no SIM in, so it had to be through the wizard, but the 'G' icon didn't chage to the connected one even though the connection worked. I've yet to instal SPB GPRS monitor, but will do and see if it logs the traffic.
Can your laptop connect to a regular (Nokia/SE) BT phone's DUN profile?
Dox
Hey Dox, I've finally managed to establish an EDGE connection over bluetooth with my laptop. Just wanted to let you know regarding SPB GPRS Monitor to be careful with it. After I installed it my KJAM's backlight would always be off even after a restart. Only way I could fix it was to hard reset and reinstall everything except for that one. You might wanna check around to see how others have faired with it before installing it yourself.
SPB GPRS Monitor
Hi firas,
Glad you have it working buddy. I gave up on the BT dongle on my laptop (even with widcom drivers instead of the 3com supplied ones) long before I got the Wizards...
Thanks for the heads-up re gprs monitor too. As it happens, I had already installed it on my own Wizard as my Voda 'data' bundle covers gprs,MMS and SMS from the same pool, and I wanted to see how many 'SMS' worth of data I was using. I haven't had the backlight problem you mentioned, but will be wary.
When I installed it from the O2 companion CD, it installed okay, but (I guess because of the Active rubbish) there's no Today plugin with that version. I turn the titlebar icon off, as its implementation is clumsy, and used the today plugin to monitor, and as access to the reports. Might try an SPB update over the top...
Anyway, reconnected from my 4700 surfed for a bit fine, and still no sign of the Today 'G' icon showing connected and no traffic in GPRS Monitor. Guess it's back to my old registered version on the iPaq end of the link...
Thanys again for the tips and warnings firas...
Catcha later
Dox
Glad to be of any help Dox. I've also had the same problem with the G icon not changing colors to show that it's connected when using the GPRS (EDGE) connection on the KJAM from my laptop (although I can surf the Internet just fine). So I guess we can just add that to the ever growing list of bugs in the KJAM (or WM5) :x
Hi Firas, I want to ask you. Is your service provider MTC or Wataniya? and what about the downloading speed using dun profile is it slow or fast?
Hi ysq2002. I'm currently using Wataniya and I'm getting download speeds between 128 - 170 Kbps ( 16 - 21 KBps) using DUN on my KJAM which is great for Kuwait. I've tested it in Kuwait City, Surra (not south Surra), Sulaibikhat (Maternity Hospital) and even Kabd (Chabd) and have gotten the above mentioned speeds. I used to have MTC for several years and I tested my MTC phone line beside my Wataniya phone line recently in Chabd and was only getting 20 - 32 Kbps ( 2.5 KBps - 4 KBps ) on my MTC phone !!
Yes firas.Yesterday, I bought kjam. The internet speed was very good using Edge. Much, much better than PDA2k which has no support for edge

Hi Firas, could you please tell me how did you make the KJAM bluetooth to work as a modem and the laptop can connect to it?when i tried to dial from my lapotp,i got error 692 hardware error, can you help?thanks a million.
anyone can help?
To be honest with you I don't know what I did differently that finally got it working. I followed the instructions in the above mentioned PDF at least 10 times and it finally worked ?! Try going to device manager on your computer, uninstall any Bluetooth Modems. Go to the Bluetooth settings and remove any pairing between your laptop and your phone and start all over again. Take it step by step according to Club Imate's document.
Sorry I can't be of anymore help.
EDGE !!
His Firas;
I've read some threads about EDGE in the forums; but i swear i can't get an exact and easy-to-understand meaning of EDGE !!! all what i got is that it's 3 or 4 times faster than GPRS connection !! what is EDGE, plz don't give me high-tech definition ?? and tell me, if you connect to the internet on your wizard using EDGE, how do you know the exact speed (considering that the laptop doesn't exist) ?? thanx in advance buddy ..
EDGE is also known as EGPRS (Enhanced GPRS) and can theoritically reach speeds of 384 kbit/s. It is an upgrade to current GPRS networks and is much faster than regular GPRS which operates at 30–70 kbit/s. So if your mobile telephone company provides EDGE (EGPRS) and your phone supports EDGE it will run at EDGE speeds (usually up to 230 Kbps). If your phone only supports GPRS it will still work with an EGPRS network but will run at a slower speed (usually around 40 - 50 kbps). EDGE is available in some parts of the US, Europe, and Middle East (not sure about Asia). Do not confuse it with UMTS which is a very different technology and is built on different networks and offers even faster speeds.
Here are a few web sites that offer free speed tests:
http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/
well, thank you so much, i got the clear idea now and thanx again for the websites
7ayyaak Allaah Glad I could help !

Internet via bluetooth

Hey Guys,
I'm new to the PPC,where i just bought a K-Jam and installed activesync 4.1 on my laptop (winxp sp2).
i have also a bluetooth dongle (MSI) and it seems to be working fine with me, i can connect my kjam to the laptop to syncronize my data.
now when it comes to using the internet via my laptop, i'm lost
i've been reading all threats which confused me when setting up the connection and i'm still not able to work it.
please if anyone can help me step by step , i'll be thankfull
thanx in advance.
I have noted by Bluetooth experiences with connecting my Xda Exec to my Home PC internet connection. It took me over a weeks worth of shouting & frustration to get this working as I ended up falling down every pitfall you could fall down!
Anyway, take a look here:

all you need to do is discover your device and connect to the dial-up networking connection.....
once that's done it's just a matter of getting the correct phone number, username and password (if applicable).
In the US for T-Mobile the phone number is *99# and there is no user name or password.
dear underwurld
thinks for your fast response and for trying to help, not sure if the link is working at the moment , i've tried to open it several times.
lvlolvlo,
i donot think it can be that easy, i came across alot of threats were all about the activesync and ports and network connections , what made it more complicated.
any help..?
Oops sorry about that....
Missed a bloody 't' out try again:

Dear Underwurl,
i would like to thank u for these amazing information and references , however ( to tell u the truth) it is still confusing to me..
i thouhgt there might be any guidelines where i could go through steps
1-
2-
.
.
and so on...
i think i have no problem connecting my device to the laptop ( not through the dialup thing but through the activesync 4.1 and it says connected in both)
also all reference were talking about incoming ports and outgoings ones which doesnot exist in activesync4.2 ( i know it might exist on 3.8 ver)
1- if it is somehow connected to the activesync, are there anything to be configured for the proxy server , and how ( i'm using my office lan)??
2- when it says connected i try to open IE but all i get is page is under construction...what does that mean???
3- is it something related to the bluetooth (msi) driver or ghosted ports??
u c....i'm going randomly considering all these thoughts, which is confusing me alot...
will appreciate any help...
OK....
So, just to be clear:
Have you installed those nice WICOMM Bluetooth services installed on your PC?
Andy
PS
Do you have WiFi in your office???? Bin Bluetooth if you have!!!!!!!
yes, I installed the BT software that came with my BT dongle
it shows widcomm in my driver data
and no idonot have wifi in my office
what do u think?
while connected with my laptop via activesync, i checked the tcp/ip setting with pocket mechanic, it is showing a different ip address than the one in my laptop connection (LAN connection),
but showing a correct host name
and it says " Local area networks cannot directly communicate across wide area networks because they are defind by a private class of ip's"
any idea?????
when i open internet explorer on my kjam it says "page not found"
is it that difficult for you guys,
no one have gone through this before??

Browsing the web while on a call? possible?

is there any way on my mda i can use the wifi to browse the web while i talk on the phone via bluetooth or even wired? i heard theres a reg tweak but i cant locate it after many searches. please give me sum knowledge!
Not possible at the same time with GPRS/EDGE because your phone is class B. No class A phones are sold retail yet.
Yoıu have to suspend the call and browse the web or vice versa..
That's funny I can surf (either using WiFi or GPRS) and speak at the same time!
It was one of the main reasons I chose the qteck 9000.
OK! I edit..
You can not use GPRS/EDGE at the same time with phone call. One must be suspended. You CAN use wired or Wifi while talking on the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=54738&highlight=
if you use UMTS connection and your provider is supporting it, you CAN surf while talking on the phone.
I confirm, Orange France does allow simultaneous 3G web + voice access I did the tests:
Was on a call switched to email picked up new mail, switched to PIE surfed some news sites as I kept on chating on the phone!
I thought the same was true with GPRS but I never did the above test over a GPRS connection...
It also works for T-Mobile in the UK, I use my MDA PRO as a 3G modem plugged into my PC via USB all day long, and can have phonecalls at exactly the same time as using the internet.
Neither one has to be "suspended", they both work at the same time (although internet use is a bit slower when you're on a call, because they both use the same bandwidth).
I haven't tested it with GPRS, that might well be different as 3G has a lot more bandwidth available than GPRS/CSD...
A few questions for sl9:
1. do you use the included Wmodem program to do this or did you configure something on your PC manually?
2. could you do the same with a BT connection from the WM5 machine to your PC (instead of using the USB cable)?
3. would using BT lower the available surfing speed on the PC?
4. what sort of data plan do you have to be able to "be connected all day"?
Thanks!

1. Yes, I am using WModem with the USB cable so the MDA PRO acts like a 3G broadband modem to my PC.
2. There should be no reason why you can't do the same with Bluetooth. But bear in mind Bluetooth is SLOWER than 3G (it's about as fast as GPRS), so if you want to use the full speed of 3G, you need to use the USB connection. IR (Infra-Red) is much faster than Bluetooth and faster than 3G, but slower than USB.
3. Yes - see no. 2 above for the reason why.
4. I am on T-Mobile UK's Web & Walk Professional, "unlimited" 3G and GPRS data use (they say 2GB max usage per month, but I never get near that). So I stay connected to my home PC from my office PC all day long with remote desktop  Surprsingly, this doesn't use too much bandwidth - this month I used about 600MB which is far below the 2GB they allow.
T-Mobile in the UK have the best data tarriff by FAR, I have this bolted onto a superb base voice tarriff too which is Flext 20 - a brilliant companion to WnW PRO in fact probably the best combo tarriff there is on any network, in any country
Note: You can also use activesync at the same time as 3G WModem and making a voice call(!).
I have tested connecting to my PC with Activesync over bluetooth, connecting my PC to the internet using WModem over 3G with USB, and then making a voice call on my phone. It all worked! I could surf the net whilst talking on the phone and ActiveSync was busy synchronizing my calendar and e-mails at the same time. This is truly an amazing device, I love my MDA PRO
Thanks for the quick reply!
OK guys.. the first post was about MDA, you are talking about 3G and MDA :?
I only mention about GPRS/EDGE not 3G/wired or smth. else..
I think we are not on the same thing. Forgive me if I am wrong..
do i have to change any settins to get wifi/phone call to work? because i cant seem to get it to go yet
For wi-fi + phone I o not think there is any settings that need changing.
Are you sure you have enough battery? If the level is low it could be possible there is not enough power to handle both radios...
Also are you sure both wi-fi and telephone work correctly if used by themselves?
Finally do you have an MDA IV (ie HTC Universal) because otherwise your in the wrong forum from the start!
i`m sure the wifi and the phone work themselves. and i have a tmobile mda tthe us version... i`lll try again and let u guys know what happens

Wireless modem ...

Hi to all , i'm a new user of TYTN .
I always use it as a modem to surf the web via BT in conjunction with my laptop.
My question is : there is a way to defaul the wireless modem to BT ( it default to usb ) when start the program and ( maybe ) the program starts automatically without select MENU>START....
ALSO : i saw that the internal modem work also when the device is into sleep mode and without starting the wireless modem but in this case the connection hang after few minutes ( i think the BT connection to the PC hang ).
If the device is in active state the internal modem work too and fine but if no data is exchanged for a while the device goes to sleep without advice then connection hang.
No problem using the wireless modem .
Again ... there is a way to add the internet sharing via PAN BT like hermes' brothers ( P3600) ???
thx in advance
Greeting from Italy
Davide
I'm having the same problem, also in Italy on TIM. I have tried two different SIM cards, different data plans, and can not find any pattern to the disonnects. If the connection sits idle, it will suddenly stop passing traffic. I have at times been able to keep the connection active by running a game (WoW) in the background on my laptop, but as soon as I the game quits due to timeout (not playing), the connection gets "stale" and dies. Other times, the game will not keep the connection active either. The time it stays active is inconsistent as well. Sometimes when I connect, I get no received packets, only sent. If I disconnect/reconnect 4 or 5 times, usually I will get a good connect and be able to open a web page. I do find it is worse in the daytime than in the evenings, but this is not always true.
BTW, I'm on a TyTn, MacBook Pro w/ the modem script linked from the wiki.
Any ideas?
@ jcolley :
i don't know about macbook , but a problem like your appear on micro$oft XP with the built in bluetooth stack .... much more better use the widcomm stack or toshiba stack for bluetooth

Nope, as there still isn't an AKU3 ROM for the TyTN.
As far as disconnection problems are concerned, try using a desktop-based ping utility to keep up the connection.

How to Setup Laptop to Use 3G Internet from My Cingular 8525?

Okay, I've searched for several hours so I don't act like a true newbie and ask a dumb question that's been asked a hundred times, but I can't find anything definite on this, so here goes.
I have a new Cingular 8525 and have Cingular's PDA Connect Unlimited data plan. I am in a 3G area. I have an out of the box phone with Windows Mobile 5 with no ROM updates or hacks on it.
I would like to take my laptop in the car and hook my phone to it and have my laptop use the 3G connection that my phone is providing. I know you can setup a modem connection, and I've done that, but it only connects at 115k, which is the fastest setting the modem driver and bluetooth dongle have listed. I would like to be surfing on my laptop at the 3G speeds.
I know there are implications where Cingular may or may not charge me, because I am supposed to possibly have something called the Laptop Connect plan, but lets assume that's not an issue.
Also, whichever way is easiest, I can either use my USB cord to tether my phone and laptop together or use my Bluetooth on my laptop and connect that way.
Anyone have the steps on how to make this work?
Thanks
Did you ever get this working?
I have almost the same situation: a Tom Tom GO 720 device that will talk to the 8525's Handsfree service via Blue Tooth, but says that the phone is not advertising the DUN service.
Got it working
I did two things to make it work.
First, I got Internet Sharing working by using the cabinet called UPRREY-ICS[1].cab that you can find on this forum site. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1564979#24. This will install a link to the Internet Sharing application and show it under Programs.
That made my laptop able to use the GPRS connection. This uses the Bluetooth PAN to tether the laptop and the phone. (but be careful - your plan might not allow large data transfers).
Second, I found two files, also on this forum site, called WM6_DUN.zip (or separately as BT_DUN.cab) and MODEMLINK.zip.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/misc.php?do=showattachments&t=314371
MODEMLINK.zip has a .rgu file in it that I didn't have to mess with .. I just copied the other files to the windows directory and restarted.
Now my TomTom GO 710 finds the handsfree connection, the phonebook/object connection, and the DUN service so it can get on the internet when it needs to.
Thanks to URPREY, The.Drone, and MUN for their previous posts. You rock.
Hi
I have a tomtom gps 720 that I am trying to conntect to a HTC touch diamond, downloaded the software and have placed it into my windows directory etc.. which seems to have helped as it now shows on my tomtom that my phone supports wireless data transfers, the problem I am having now is when putting the setting in the tomtom for the wireless settings my mobile of phone does not appear so I am getting up to 65% through setting it up before I run into a wall....
any further ideas?
I would suggest using the data cable method without bluetooth headaches. Diamond has a ver poor battery, so when ised with USB cable it can stay alive but ultimately your laptop battery is drained
Diamond should have built-in internet connection sharing option. Does the prompt that appears when connecting to PC have that? If not try the HTCtoUSB PopUp cabs taken from Raphel.
Regards,
Carty..
I have no problem connecting the htc diamind or the tomtom go 720 to the PC, I'm just trying to get the wireless data to work so I can send and receive text messages through the TomTom.
