Screen Problems - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I bought an imate jasjar on 31.08.2006
Returned on 1.09.2006 with a faulty screen when device is locked into landscape mode.
imate replaced it with a NEW device on 4.09.2006
Screen fails again today 7.09.2006 on the new device.
Different packaging and IMEI number.
I guess at least this one lasted 2 days and didn't fail out of the box like the first device!
Has anyone else had screen problems when changing into landscape mode.
Mine fades the screen out white and has pink or blue fine vertical lines.
Do I try another or ask for my money back?
Thanks in advance.

my screen image changes smoothly from landscape to portrait without any screen artifacts. i even took it off and tightened it up after i dropped it and it became loose.

U gotta Try another.
Of course U gotta Try another.
U can't desert a JASJAR like that.
Regards,

..mines a bit loose actually, is it easy to take it off and tighten the hinge?

i have the same problem sceen turnin white with pink lines, i 'll send it to repair, it seems to be the weak point of the UNI

3rd New Jasjar- No Problems now
Took three returns and a jasjar from another production run to rectify the problem.
Appears to be a pretty cheaply made piece of hardware!

I'm on my third Uni - the first (a G3) was great until the USB connector dropped off (a known fault). The second (another G3) felt flimsy from when first I got it. The hinge got rather loose after I accidentally dropped it. Also the earpiece speaker died when I dropped it.
I now have a replacement - a G4. It is far better made - much more solid, with a better keyboard and screen.
BTW, skywriter how did you tighten the screen - did you have to take the whole thing apart (as appears to be the case from the repair / maintenance manual)?

Is there a way to fix the screen?

Hello all, i'm facing a very serious problem with my skin.
I woke up the morning and the screen of my Atom was awful! I can't describe it because i don't know what the hell it has!
Here is 2 pics to see my problem:
With the screen off the problem is very obvious on the upper left corner

A pic with the screen light on (the problem isn't so obvious)
I'm in desperate position, i don't know what to do!
Is there a way to fix the screen? Do i have to buy a new one? If yes, do you know from where i can buy it? Unfortunately i can't send it from Greece to Hong Kong for the official service.
Any help appreciated!
Bill
Yes there is...
Hi Bill,
Im very sorry to hear about your screen. the problem with the screen is that the backlight of the lcd is not functioning. ( Its called BPD-light).
there are 2 options : 1. you can change the whole lcd screen, but thats pretty expensive if its not under warranty 2. you can replace the BPD which is very cheap actually (35-60$ ), but it is very rare to find.
In my store we fix those problems.
if you are interested, you can contact me : [email protected]
Goodluck!
Not sure whether it's the similar case as mine. My screen was ever like your atom snap shot a few times. Very clear when it's screen off. Mine's due to the screen got depressed a bit too hard (while in the pocket or doze off on bed with my atom ) that it some how stick to the one beneath. What I did was just to press that area with little preasure and it got back to normal. Hope it helps.

Umm, what??
The backlight clearly is working in the second photo.
Thank you all for your replies.
Yeah, it is the screen's problem and not the backlight.
So, the device it's on the way to HK for the official service and LCD's replacement.
I have seen similar circumstances in many TFT applications (I used to repair digital cameras).
My hypothesis:
The problem is perhaps liquid trapped next to the reflective diffuser sheet(used for backlighting) a piece of opaque polarised plastic paper.
I think water has got between the plastic rear membrane and the diffuser paper, and it is trapping it, in what can only be described as the capillary effect. (HTC might disassemble the LCM, let it dry, and then clean with isopropyl, or just replace it because it's too much hassle).
Finally my Atom is in my hands with the screen replaced!
I have sent my Atom ~20 days ago to Hong Kong with the help of baubaubau (http://forum.xda-developers.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=83579).
I've shipped the Atom to him, and then he has delivered the device to the O2 Support. Also, because O2 has run out of LCDs he gave them a strange push for not the replacement be delayed.
So, i have to thank him in public.
If you have any problem with your device or you want to buy a new one don't hesitate to come in contact with baubaubau. [/url]

HTC Hermes 200 Screen Issue

Hi,
I'm pretty distressed at the moment. On Sunday while out I noticed that the alignment of my screen was out. I realigned the screen and the problem seemed less but the problem came back after a minute or two.
After some Googling I tried the credit card trick for solving the alignment issue and now my problem is much much worse. I can not align the screen because I go in a never ending circle.
I suppose the best way I can describe the issue is, if drawing on a program like Note, the screen goes further out of alignment the further to the right of the screen I go. If I run the stylus down the right side of the screen the line is drawn about 1/3rd of the way into the screen but goes further into the screen at an angle as I run the stylus down the screen.
If I try to draw a box in Note around the screen edge the effect is like this;

I also tried to loosen the screws at the back of the screen when slided out but I have now lost one of the screws and frankly I think the online fixes have done nothing for me except void my warranty and make it worse.
My questions are basically
1) Anyone else have the same issue and find a fix?
2) Will a missing screw and a homebrew version of Windows Mobile 6.1 mean the warranty is now void / HTC won't repair it and if so
3) Where / How much will it cost to get this repaired?
I really love my TyTN but it cost far too much for me to just "replace" and I really could do with it being repaired for under £100 or preferably for free.
Danny
This problem has been around since the Hermes first came out. There are those that claim that various things will work to cure the problem. Having had a Hermes that did this I can say nothing worked reliably or fo more than short periods.
My suggestion is to revert to the original ROM or flash an official new one and then take a chance with that missing screw for a repair under warranty. I can see you getting a service centre to repair for £100 (though you coul check this out) I have also seen repairs supposedly done (usually an LCD/digitizer combo replacement) that continue to show the problem. I have certainly seen cases where folk have replaced the screen themselves and it has not cured the problem. Hence my guidance for a warranty repair/replacement.
Mike
Thankfully I found the missing screw yesterday on the floor, chance of chances.
I will try to flash the old rom and send for a repair, I contact HTC though their site. Do they reply often? Sometimes I've e-mailed companies and been ignored.
Might be worth giving them a ring?

Paint chipping on battery cover

I just noticed today that paint had started to chip off my battery cover right next to the power button. My phone hasn't been handled roughly, so I'm not sure what happened, but that whole area chipped off just recently. Now it's starting to bother me...

Notice the two chips directly next to the power button slot.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any ideas for touching it up?
I have two small chips on the bottom corners. I have been debating putting a tiny drop of crazy glue or maybe clear nail polish on the spots to keep the area from continuing to flake away.
I used to own a Volkswagen that had the same soft touch material all over the interior controls. It looked great and felt high end, but it would always peel off. The following model year removed ALL soft touch from the interior for this very reason. It just doesn't hold up well.
Its only a matter of time until it happens to our phones. Enjoy it while you can!

Happened to me to (on the bottom).
Got fixed when I sent the phone in for a replacement (for another issue)
It gives the phone some character like Stevie ray Vaughan's guitar...
My proclip car mount put 2 chips in either bottom corner of my phone
I actually have an extra battery cover. I had bought a new one cause the clear plastic "lens" for the camera cracked. Unfortunately the new cover didn't come with the lens.
If u call HTC they will send u a new battery cover for free

[Q] Screen problems, phone dead?

My HD2 appears to have some big time screen problems, so i wonder if anyone has any sugestions.
Background
It never really lived in a case and the inevitable drops happened. That ended in about November when one drop too many caused the screen to crack. I replaced the digitiser and lcd screen which got it all working again happily, though beecause of the amount of fiddly stuff involved the chassis never truly fit perfectly, the screen protruded ever so slightly above the edge of the case, etc.
Fast forward to last weekend when for no apparent reason (i hadnt dropped it or anything) it started to behave erratically, not registering screen taps and then suddenly doing many things at one, making it almost impossible to send text messages and use effectively. My thought was that maybe it was losing calibration so tried aligning the screen but nothing would really happen.
Furhtermore it seemed like the bottom section of the screen had almost no responsiveness at all.
I therefore thought it might have something to do with the connections inside the machine, so i decided to take it all apart and check all the connections were sturdy. Thats when the real problems started because when i put it back together and turned it on, i had a horrible display that makes it next to useless.

I actually just fired it up to check that it was sill the case and it seems slightly worse than this picture!
So the questions. Firstly, does anyone know what might be the problem here. Is it likely to be the connection between the processor and the lcd, or soemthing more of a problem? How easy is it likely to be to sort it? A case of a completely new screen needed? Or is it likely to be something fairly simple? And would those problems with teh LCD screen be a similar cause of the calibration problems (i thought the digitiser might not be working properly, hence the original decision to take it to pieces!)
Hope someone can help. Happily my upgrade was due last friday, buit it would be nice to have a working phone for spare use etc.
Steve
It seems to me a bad LCD(100%) and probably a bad touchscreen!
As i suspected. Has anyone else with a replacement digitiser/lcd had any similar problems?

Should I try to save my black screen nexus 4?

Hello people.
I need help to decide if I should try to save my nexus 4 or not. It has been dismantled for the past half a year and i recently got it to show signs of life after battling the steady red ring of death. (Was simple by the way, just used a wireless charger for a couple of minutes) But if I turn it on, it vibrates, the screen lights up and that is just about it. So i have no idea if the phone itself is functional. Some of you might tell me not to bother with such an old phone, hell, they aren't even sold anymore. But this phone has stuck by me through thick and thin, and has a sentimental value. I nearly jumped of joy when it showed signs of life after such a long time. I am not a rich man, so i need to manage my finances. Screen replacement would cost me 25 pounds, back housing would be another 10, but what if the phone is still not functional? Is there any way I can find out if I should take the gamble?
Some info -
I am not entirely sure if there is an OS currently installed on the device, as I was experimenting quite a bit before the battery run its coure.
I am also missing one of the connector things that are circled (there is one and a broken spot where another one should be) but i have no idea what it connects to. The little peg itself is safe and sound in my possession, if it can be welded back. It connects to whatever is under the power button on the back housing.

The screen is cracked in three places, but was working the last time I remember. But there have been many (and I mean many) dis and re assemblies since then.
I probably love this phone more than my friends and family. Just want my favourite piece of tech to be my companion again.
Could the red light be due to a dead battery?

Thankls for the reply. The battery is new and the red light issue is sorted. The phone just doesnt do much more other than vibrate and light up the screen. How do i know if it is still worth investing money in is the real question.
