Should I try to save my black screen nexus 4? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello people.
I need help to decide if I should try to save my nexus 4 or not. It has been dismantled for the past half a year and i recently got it to show signs of life after battling the steady red ring of death. (Was simple by the way, just used a wireless charger for a couple of minutes) But if I turn it on, it vibrates, the screen lights up and that is just about it. So i have no idea if the phone itself is functional. Some of you might tell me not to bother with such an old phone, hell, they aren't even sold anymore. But this phone has stuck by me through thick and thin, and has a sentimental value. I nearly jumped of joy when it showed signs of life after such a long time. I am not a rich man, so i need to manage my finances. Screen replacement would cost me 25 pounds, back housing would be another 10, but what if the phone is still not functional? Is there any way I can find out if I should take the gamble?
Some info -
I am not entirely sure if there is an OS currently installed on the device, as I was experimenting quite a bit before the battery run its coure.
I am also missing one of the connector things that are circled (there is one and a broken spot where another one should be) but i have no idea what it connects to. The little peg itself is safe and sound in my possession, if it can be welded back. It connects to whatever is under the power button on the back housing.

The screen is cracked in three places, but was working the last time I remember. But there have been many (and I mean many) dis and re assemblies since then.
I probably love this phone more than my friends and family. Just want my favourite piece of tech to be my companion again.

Could the red light be due to a dead battery?

Thankls for the reply. The battery is new and the red light issue is sorted. The phone just doesnt do much more other than vibrate and light up the screen. How do i know if it is still worth investing money in is the real question.

Paint chipping on battery cover

I just noticed today that paint had started to chip off my battery cover right next to the power button. My phone hasn't been handled roughly, so I'm not sure what happened, but that whole area chipped off just recently. Now it's starting to bother me...

Notice the two chips directly next to the power button slot.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any ideas for touching it up?
I have two small chips on the bottom corners. I have been debating putting a tiny drop of crazy glue or maybe clear nail polish on the spots to keep the area from continuing to flake away.
I used to own a Volkswagen that had the same soft touch material all over the interior controls. It looked great and felt high end, but it would always peel off. The following model year removed ALL soft touch from the interior for this very reason. It just doesn't hold up well.
Its only a matter of time until it happens to our phones. Enjoy it while you can!

Happened to me to (on the bottom).
Got fixed when I sent the phone in for a replacement (for another issue)
It gives the phone some character like Stevie ray Vaughan's guitar...
My proclip car mount put 2 chips in either bottom corner of my phone
I actually have an extra battery cover. I had bought a new one cause the clear plastic "lens" for the camera cracked. Unfortunately the new cover didn't come with the lens.
If u call HTC they will send u a new battery cover for free

[Q] Screen problems, phone dead?

My HD2 appears to have some big time screen problems, so i wonder if anyone has any sugestions.
Background
It never really lived in a case and the inevitable drops happened. That ended in about November when one drop too many caused the screen to crack. I replaced the digitiser and lcd screen which got it all working again happily, though beecause of the amount of fiddly stuff involved the chassis never truly fit perfectly, the screen protruded ever so slightly above the edge of the case, etc.
Fast forward to last weekend when for no apparent reason (i hadnt dropped it or anything) it started to behave erratically, not registering screen taps and then suddenly doing many things at one, making it almost impossible to send text messages and use effectively. My thought was that maybe it was losing calibration so tried aligning the screen but nothing would really happen.
Furhtermore it seemed like the bottom section of the screen had almost no responsiveness at all.
I therefore thought it might have something to do with the connections inside the machine, so i decided to take it all apart and check all the connections were sturdy. Thats when the real problems started because when i put it back together and turned it on, i had a horrible display that makes it next to useless.

I actually just fired it up to check that it was sill the case and it seems slightly worse than this picture!
So the questions. Firstly, does anyone know what might be the problem here. Is it likely to be the connection between the processor and the lcd, or soemthing more of a problem? How easy is it likely to be to sort it? A case of a completely new screen needed? Or is it likely to be something fairly simple? And would those problems with teh LCD screen be a similar cause of the calibration problems (i thought the digitiser might not be working properly, hence the original decision to take it to pieces!)
Hope someone can help. Happily my upgrade was due last friday, buit it would be nice to have a working phone for spare use etc.
Steve
It seems to me a bad LCD(100%) and probably a bad touchscreen!
As i suspected. Has anyone else with a replacement digitiser/lcd had any similar problems?

[Q] Part of touchscreen dead

If i press inside the red area (including home button) it wont work and its just like i pressed the near side, like icons in the left or right of that red area.
I tried full data wipe, cache and dalvik, tried flashing newer sbf and no good.
Do you guys have any idea on it?
Thanks
Bad news bro.
I'm pretty sure its a hardware problem, the screen must be damaged...
So i need to replace it?

Better to get a new phone =D
a new phone is your option coz replacing the screen would cost you alot while you can get a better phone in a few bucks more!
New screens are available on amazon for 12 pounds (at least I spend this much)
However It may be a signal cable. They starts from 30$ on ebay
There are disassembly videos on Youtube.
I had a similar problem and I did the replacement two months ago and it works.
I bought the screen digitizer with tools on eBay.
Be sure That you have a torx3 beca use it didn't came on the tools! ;P
I had the same problem... I sent to the Moto Assistance and the had to change the touchscreen for a now one.
Good luck!
Not the cable. If the cable was damaged, it would shut down the entire screen. It's a problem with the digitizer. Hopefully for you it's relatively easy to exchange it, but you'll damage the camera sticker, the top panel of back side, above the battery and the speaker grid sticker (all of those are glued to the phone) in order to open it. Doesn't matter the way you take them over, you'll always damage it. Might wanna buy some of these on ebay too, although I'm not sure they sell it.
I had the exact same problem with my first M2, it was still under warranty but Moto took sweet 15 days to exchange it, and they returned my phone with a stuck volume rocker. Had to send it again, they took more than 15 days this time, so I asked for a replacement.

Screen or GPU screwup

Hey guys, I'm making this thread basicly just to vent I sent my DHD in for repairs in late march because the volume rocker had come loose and it would be fixed under warranty, no biggie the phone did take a couple of weeks to get fixed but I knew that when I sent it in, now when I got it back I immediately tried to start it at my dealer but the phone wouldn't start I thought Oh well prob didn't have allot of battery when I put it in. So I came home but in the charger and turned it on, to my surprise they had tried to update my fw it failed and I was left with a phone that only had access to HBOOT, since it was fully functional when I put it in for the repairs (Stock rom S-ON) I took it right back and they tried to flash it at the dealer to no avail, I once again had to be without my phone for a few weeks, now this thursday I finally got word that my phone was ready to pick up *YAY* (they changed the mainboard) I was quite happy since I had been given an old desire bravo as a loaner while mine was being repaired thinking oh happy happy joyjoy these last two days having my phone back.
Now this evening when I went to look at the clock on my phone I saw right away some strange artifacts on the screen like green is bleeding through? I tried to restart right away and when the phone shows the htc logo the first time around it's clear no artifacts perfect white and green, and then as soon as it enters the OS the ****ups start to appear, what could be causing this?
I'm sorry for this wall of text but my patience for htc is wearing quite thin now and I'm not thinking I will ever buy another handset from them again
a still taken in the game Dream Hights on my dhd

same game on my Transformer TF101
I have no idea why imageshack has the seccond picture upside down but you get the picture
Sounds like they botched the repair job.
theres either a break or a short in the displays ribbon cable
dude, if you've sent your phone twice, you should tell them to give your money back and you have right to do so. Once you do that, get yourself a dual or a quad core

Changed

Hi everyone,
Now we have holidays ( I love it :victory: ) and a lot of free time. During the school year I studied a lot but now I can play with my lego bricks
So a few days ago I thought about annoying problem with my phone and charging it.
All time I'd like to charge my phone I have to push away my bed, plug charger to the socket and then plug the phone to the USB cable. So I thought I could build a robot which would plug charger to the socket if I turned it ( my robot ) on.
I was building it for three days ( with long breaks for sleep, meals, etc. ) and I think it wasn't easy. I have built also a charging dock for (my) the best phone -> Samsung Galaxy SIII mini

I'm really satisfied with the resuls To build I have used NXT brick, one servo motor, one touch sensor and a light sensor. I used a lot of varous bricks from 9695 and 8547 sets.
How does it work?
If you want to charge your phone you have to only put your phone in the charging dock and turn on robot. When you turn program on, the lamp will also turn on. If it is green, your phone will charge. If it is red, you have to click "PLUG" and then your phone will charge. That's all
Let's see what I have done
Some photos(they are really big, I'm sorry)
