G1 Slide action detector failed

Right, so.
This morning a tiny (5x7x1mm) black sticky backed magnet was stuck in my g1 hinge, there by stopping the slide motion and furthermore leaving the screen stuck in landscape mode, i prodded it and it feel out.
So, I rang T-mobile, and low and behold as my G1 has a scratch on a corner it will be deemed as having been dropped. and therefore they wont replace or repair it.
Ok, so...
Ethire, where in the phone is the magnet meant to go. So I can replace it.
Or, will HTC throw a wobbly because my phone has JFv1.41 rom, or because of the nick on the corner.
Idea's please?

You got insurance on the phone?

no, I assume as now I've asked them about it if i take out an insurance policy and then claim in a while it wouldn't go so well....
unless its something else...

Well your other solution would be just to unroot it and send it back to HTC to get repaired. I would do it soon the phone is still under a year old.

Right, In this image inside the slider hinge section there's a small recess with a white Square in it. That's where the magnet came from....
With the screen half slid out (like in the image) it should be possible with some cleaning and a tiny amount of glue, to replace the magnet in place..

I just opened my screen and placed a small magnet on the keyboard to the right of the enter key and my screen flipped back to portrait because it thought the screen was closed. Try this and see if it works.
the jokes I can play on my wife using a magnet now. MUHAHAHA

OK! PROBLEM SOLVED! I founf excellent magnet in Notebook HDD. It was 1mm high. (excellent) and i can broke it east that i can make about 7x5x1mm magnet then i use glue and everythings work

got the magnet but slide sensor doesn't work
Hey guys,
My G1 got crashed (my wife left it on the roof of her car) so I had to replace the screen. It went smoothly but now it wouldn't recognize when the keyboard is open. I have the magnet in place so I guess it's the sensor part that got screwed up. Any ideas how to fix that?
The biggest problem is that I did a hard reset and it wouldn't let me set up the google user name and password because it is waiting for the keyboard to be open. Any workaround for that?

The hole next to the Flash...FACTS!

I found out today after taking apart my DHD's (one is north american ATT the other is from softbank Japan). The hole IS NOT just for easy access to the cover, there is in FACT a second microphone for noise cancellation, I know this was a hot topic in the past and it is true. I know because one of my phones has it and the other does not. In fact i've been told numerus times that people can hear alot of wind noise with my Softbank DHD, I never had this problem with my ATT handset.
As you can see the little black box is missing form my Japanese Phone, at the bottom of that is a small microphone

How do you remove that cover? Mine is always bulging out.

That's actually a really cool feature, I am glad to see HTC putting something as simple as that in, that I am sure would actually have some effectiveness without adding much cost.

If you have the hole its as simple as inserting a pin and turning towards the left until the cover pops. DO NOT turn toward the right or you WILL snap the cover.
If you DONT have the hole, its a lot more difficult (I scratched my phone) but you need a VERY thin flat head screwdriver to insert into the right side of the cover and ply SLIGHTLY to get a little space *jewlers would work great* then get something larger so you dont bend the cover, pry SLOWLY until the cover pops off.
WARNING: I find this very difficult to do without scratching your phone.
PS. The reason I pulled my cover was to clean the gps contacts and bend them upward for better contact. It worked great for me so if you take your off, do yourself a favor and do this.

On one of the disassembly videos, they used a tool from inside the battery slot to push it off from inside, I certainly wouldn't attempt to remove it without a very good reason.

Fix for Sleep Of Death!

Did your tablet screen go out? Does the backlight still come on, but the screen shows nothing? Can you hook it up to a TV, and the picture comes out fine? If so, it is most likely a loose cable, and can quickly be fixed by you, without RMAing it and waiting weeks or months. While the guide should be spot on, and you aren't going to be harming the device in any way, I'm still not assuming any responsibility if you destroy your tablet. You will first need to take apart your transformer. There are plenty of guides out there, so once you get the back off, come back here!

Two torx screws have to come off first, these are part of what holds the bezel down.
After that you need to use a guitar pick from the back to lift the bezel up...best to get all 4 corners up and keep sliding..as soon as it wont slide lift it out and back in again a bit further on... it absolutely destroyed the pick by the way..lots of sharp edges in there.
The bezel will then come off from the front of the tablet. Just be careful and dont force it, Around the 40 pin connector was the biggest pain.
The back cover is held down by 4 screws on the top glass, and umm if I recall about 10 screws behind where the bezel . It basically then falls off once all screws are off with not to much effort.
There are also no security stickers over any of the screws anywhere inside the tablet

Take a look at the bottom, you should see a strip with a bunch of multicolored wires coming from the battery. Underneath it, and near the bottom of the battery you should see a ribbon cable. Here's a picture, the display cable has a flashlight shining on it.

Try pushing that into the slot a bit and see if that fixed it. If not try pushing on a few of the other cables, if this doesn't fix it, then I would suggest you RMA it, although I really think this will fix it for you. This has happened twice to me, and each time, pushing cables a bit seems to do the job.

Should I try to save my black screen nexus 4?

Hello people.
I need help to decide if I should try to save my nexus 4 or not. It has been dismantled for the past half a year and i recently got it to show signs of life after battling the steady red ring of death. (Was simple by the way, just used a wireless charger for a couple of minutes) But if I turn it on, it vibrates, the screen lights up and that is just about it. So i have no idea if the phone itself is functional. Some of you might tell me not to bother with such an old phone, hell, they aren't even sold anymore. But this phone has stuck by me through thick and thin, and has a sentimental value. I nearly jumped of joy when it showed signs of life after such a long time. I am not a rich man, so i need to manage my finances. Screen replacement would cost me 25 pounds, back housing would be another 10, but what if the phone is still not functional? Is there any way I can find out if I should take the gamble?
Some info -
I am not entirely sure if there is an OS currently installed on the device, as I was experimenting quite a bit before the battery run its coure.
I am also missing one of the connector things that are circled (there is one and a broken spot where another one should be) but i have no idea what it connects to. The little peg itself is safe and sound in my possession, if it can be welded back. It connects to whatever is under the power button on the back housing.

The screen is cracked in three places, but was working the last time I remember. But there have been many (and I mean many) dis and re assemblies since then.
I probably love this phone more than my friends and family. Just want my favourite piece of tech to be my companion again.

Thankls for the reply. The battery is new and the red light issue is sorted. The phone just doesnt do much more other than vibrate and light up the screen. How do i know if it is still worth investing money in is the real question.

Opened back housing, what do you guys think this metal "clip" is there for?

I was replacing the back housing of Nexus 6p to change up a little for fun, for the second time. The first replacement took place a month ago, from silver (OEM) to black. Since the black housing is scratched quickly without a case, I bought a white one, which came in today.
Upon inspection, I found this metal clip right above the camera cutout (shown in the picture below, it is from my OEM housing) to be missing on the new/white housing. Do you know what this thing does, and if absent, will it pose any issue using the phone? I thought it could be antenna connection at first, but then I found many other small clips stemming out from the board instead of the housing, so I thought those might be the antenna connections. Then what does this clip stemming out from the housing do

Yes, any idea what purpose it might serve though? I have put the housing on anyway, just fear that it might cause some functionality issue down the road.

any kind of connection as such, using a spring clip, means its meant to get signal from A to B. In this case, it seems is something that may use some soft of radio signal.
anything like that missing a connection will surely affect something (is there for a reason)
