EDGE [E] icon instead of GPRS [G] !

On the top of the screen you have the GPRS icon which looks like [G], however the phone is EDGE, right ?
The tool I found the web allows you to display the EDGE icon like [E].
Just copy the CAB file to your ppc, execute it and reboot !
Works fine.

Does this just show an E for everything or when I am on GPRS instead of Edge it switches appropriately?

just replaces it entirely - so if you're not actually on an EDGE network, but on a GPRS network, you'll see an 'E'.

We really want to know whether we are on a GPRS network or an EDGE network. I installed ROM 1.6.7.1 from Qtek on my K-Jam and I have the E & G icons and they switch back and forth depending on network coverage.

*after*. by default, EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon is set to 0 in qtek 1.6.7.1 ROM. after setting it to 1 and soft-reset it works.

gah, was using the wrong sim! now it works - sorry about that

i have installed the new rom... tried to do the regisry hack by changing it from 0 to 1.but the icon still shows [G]..alot of other ppl seem to have the same problem..dont knw why....
but at the end of the day, i aint quite fussed wether its G or E

FWIW, I did this registry hack & my phone is now displaying G when in GPRS territory, and E when in EDGE territory.
I just got back from a trip to Bangkok, where I use the DTAC network. When in parts of Bangkok where EDGE is available (Siam Square, Sukhumvit, Asoke, etc) my phone would display the E icon. When in areas with GPRS only (Saphan Kwai, Mo Chit, etc) then it displayed the G icon. My reported speeds on dslreports.com/mspeed confirmed my observations (GPRS approx 35-40k/sec, EDGE approx 75-80k/sec)

What ROM do you have? ROM 1.6.7.1?
This hack doesn't work for some old ROMs.

is there a way to display a diffirent icon ??

I have ROM 1.3.1.4 and I have no problems. :roll:

This hack works on the Dopod 818Pro (WWE)!! I'm on Cingular in California and it does flip between "G" and "E" depending on where I am. Also works throught the U.S. between places with GPRS and EDGE....

I've the problem that this hack dosn't work on my VPAcII. I just figured out that I've 3 bitmaps in the windows-folder of my device: gprs.bmp", "gprs_connect.bmp" and "GPRSConnectPPC.bmp" - these bitmaps are displayed when I'm online - but I can't find any bitmaps with "E" inside? Can anyone of you where the hack is working find out if there are such bitmaps with "E" in the windows folder of the device - and if yes (I'm shure that they are there) post these bitmaps in the forum, would be very happy if I can get them...

it does NOT depend on bitmaps, unfortunately. it was already investigated in some other topic and the conclusion was that EDGE icon is hidden probably in tapires.dll file.
i've EDGE icon working, but i don't have any edge.bmp in \Windows folder

What GPRS Cab?

Hi people!
What cab file (if any) can i grab from the extended ROM to set up the GPRS settings for O2 XDA Mini S?
I have been entering them myself, just thought it would be nice if there was a cab file to do this as when i let the customising in 3 seconds run that sets up GPRS.

It supports the PDA proxy settings (useful for weather update during working times).

I searched through a lot of these weather forecast software and I'm having problems with most of them because I stayed in a 'small' city in UK, and most of the software just doesnt have my city in the chart.
So, can you check if this has the city "Exeter" in its list?

Yes, it is in the list. This WeatherPannel is the most complete. Give it a try. It´s fabulous. Tou can download satellite images with each city and lots of information. Very accurate

i agree with you. it's the best weather plugin, it has animated icons and it is very functional

I used to use the Marsware one as well on my old X50v. Then when I got my Vario I decided to try SPBWeather instead - might not have the fancy animations but takes up much less space than MarsWare. SPBWeather still has multiple city support and manual or auto updates for retrieving weather info.
I found a great template for it that grabs weather direct from the www.bbc.co.uk/weather and so you can find 99.9% of all UK towns and cities. It also supports other countries as well.

I have just tried this, installed the app and downloaded the BBC weather 1.2 templates.
All I get is "Error downloading data from site", but it has definately been downloading some data.
I followed the instructions, word for word and they were accurate - but no weather.
Does anyone have any ideas... is it reallt WM5 compatible?

I mentioned in my post that I'm using it on my Vario so yes it does work on WM5.
Have you unzipped the templates and put them into...
\program files\spb weather\templates
...and added them to the programs like the instructions described?
Also, what city/town code are you trying? Let me know and I'll try it on my Vario.

Hmm I noticed that, I assumed it was because the screenshot was American, so it did only UK weather, but a quick check shows that it says "around the world". The only other thing however is that it says

Does that mean it won't work at all, or just really badly on the Mini S? Mine is slow enough as it is without being any slower!
edit: I guess i found out myself. I tried to install and when confirming on the XDA, it said "Space Required: 1kb" which obviously isn't right, and nothing has appeared on my device at all. Damn

Well i tried MARSWARE Weatherpanel 2.5, however i have two issues with it; Firsty, it seems to really slow my MDA down and when i pull the keyboard out it takes much longer to flip the screen. Secondly, it has installed a strange hard to read font which Opera has seems to have adpoted to start using in its a address bar etc.
Anyone else has any of the probems or know a fix/tweak?

I have spb weather on mine it works great. I liv ein a small town in the south east UK and I simply did a search on weather.com for the code to enter and created a custom city in the software with this code and downloaded the weather.com forecast.
I highly recommend this for any UK dwellers as it works perfectly and weather.com covers the whole uk in pretty good detail.

yup
i found it quite well too
but now i switched to the SBSH PocketWeather as it contain more downloadable details. eg, satellite pics, wind speed, atm pressure, humidity, wind phetch in the today screen.
i think this sw is more suitable for someone who want the program looks more professional

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Just downloaded the 15 day trial of this and SPBs equivalent, no contest.

O2 Germany... need help!!!

Hi!
In attempt to change my OS language from German to English, I have burnt original HTC WWE ROM, now I'm missing the notorious "homezone" indicator! Can anyone give me a clue... any plugin/software/CAB!! or even desperate actions like changing to O2 UK ROM?? (sounds like an over-kill... not sure whether even this will do the job) I've dug through forums and found no help.

Try the attached. Should work for you. It provides a Today item
which has to be enabled in Today Setting after install.
When you are in Homezone it indicates it with a house symbol
on the today screen.
Please report if it works.

I can verify that the plug-in is displaying "homezone" icon while I am in mine, I will check if it disappears correspondingly (though I dont have any doubt).
One comment: it needed a soft-rest to work for me.
I think this is the first working plug-in on Polaris forum for O2-Germany homezone issue, may be we can add this to wiki etc!

How to enable wireless G?

I just test my Polaris wireless speed on http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed. The browser is Opera 9.5 and the new IE6.
The D/L speed on Polaris with WIFI is lower than my HTC Tornado with only 802.11b.
So i think maybe the 802.11g is disabled default in Polaris. How can i enable it?
BTW, my router is Linksys wireless N.

But i got the 1200-1700 kbps, is that mean the G has been enabled in this ROM?

Look in Tune Up!-->Network (Tab)-->WLAN 802.11g Support. Set this to Yes if its No.

I went to the registry and the key Parms didn't have those values. I just created them. Should the work?
