If anyone has the abilty to do so via reg editing, I would really appreciate some help. I've spent far too much money on different applications for various devices only to do the same thing!
Does anybody know how to get the 'OK' and 'Windows logo' (start menu) buttons to show up under Settings/Buttons...as I would ideally like to be able to map those buttons without third party software.
Any help would be welcome. AEB sounds great, but I've alreadt invested in Spb Plus and Wisbar Advanced and now would like it done through registry edits or last resort freeware 3rd party software (but must be reliable/stable).

hi just installed the fonix voice dial anyway was wondering if anyone has figured out how to remap it to a diff hardware button, it seems it has been hard coded to the voicerecord button. I currently have this button mapped for HandyLauncher but each time I press the button VoiceDial Launches... even if I have the Button mapped to Handy Launcher Voicedial is the app that is launched. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
Hi,
The way I've done it before is use a registry editor and then search for "voicedial.exe" (without the quotes)
I believe it'll end up in something like:
Local Machine\Software\OEM\VoiceDial (or VoiceCommand?)
Simply delete the VoiceDial (or VoiceCommand?) section it self and that's literally all you need to do.
As always backup your device before editing the Windows Registry etc etc etc.
Works for me though and I've done it about 25 times (I hard reset a lot!)
Thanks a lot
Have the same problem on my Qtek 9090, Fonix has taken over my record button. However, if I press nad hold the button for 1/2 a second, it works fine. Give it a try - much better than messing about with the registry (unless, unlike me, you really know what you're doing!)

Personally I hate it when software forces its preferred options on you when there is no need to. Removing the registry entry for the Fonix voice app turned out to be very easy, and now I have my button back!
I used the free Registry Editor: http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
Thanks much Xanth.
Hi, would like to know what do you think about smartskey.
The softkey remap adding both Start Menu and Close functionality is really what brings real convienience to using my K-JAM.
The other features are nice, but I rarely use them.
When using OmapClock, I prefer to add my own startup and notifcation events.
Edit: the "alternate" startmenu key function is brilliant! I now use GSPocketMagic and it works great!
First of all, thank you very much for this great piece of work.
Softkey remap is used most often. Volume key remap is the next most used.
This is a wonderful bit of work. I use the dpad mapping about 98% of the time I use the phone. I also use the close with right soft key mapping fairly frequently and the volume key mapping to disable the today screen volme control (safety first!) and for scrolling within apps. Postal and Paypal gratitude forthcoming.
New function to close screen and block buttons
Hi,
I think it will be very very usefull to have a button which blocks all the buttons and toggle off the screen. It would make the program almost perfect!

there sholud be checkboxes instead of radioboxes in this poll. i'd check all options besides volume key remapping, because i prefer it to stay with its original function. if i could suggest anything new, it would be some piece of GUI placed in Settings window for configuring smartskey. editing smartskey.ini every time after installing new version is not quite convenient way, mostly when it's unicoded in some strange way and not every text editor can handle it (gedit in GNOME - for example - can't).
We all know that button 4 (VoiceDial button) has 2 options:
- Press --> VoiceDialing
- Press and Hold --> Recording
Is it possible to also do a simultaneous action for other hardwarebuttons?
I would like to remap my Messaging button to this:
- Press --> Open Messaging
- Press and Hold --> New SMS Message (launched by tnsms.exe) ?
Regards,
Molski
This is definitely possible. There are many other hardware button mapping applications out there for Pocket PC's in general that would work with the Wizard. They are harder to find, but the better ones allow for mutiple applications on the same button... (1) press, (2) hold, (3) press then hold. I was really interested in implementing this but I haven't yet because I fear that adding another program running constantly in the background will further reduce my performance. Our 200mhz Wizards get loaded down much quicker than an average 400mhz PPC.
If you find an application like this that is freeware and has a very small load on system resources, please let me know.
The one problem you could run into is trouble playing games because you unintentionally activate applications.

Now I think of it, I know AEB Button (or something like that) could do that if I remember right. Only problem is the program is not freeware and I only want to remap 1 single button
And I play games on my laptop or MediaCenter, my Wizard is for other things

Hi Molski,
Seems like you've managed to remap the VoiceDial key in one of your newer cabs. Mind sharing the secret?
I use SPB Mobile Shell and I would like to make it so "SPB Menu" comes up when I press the Start button on the top left hand corner.
Is there a way to do this?
I dont think this is possible, but why would you want to do that, a pop up menu is great in my opinion.
I recommend you to assign the spb menu to one of your hardware keys, like the camera key or something like that,
cu
It is possible - for example QuickMenu can replace the start menu with itself. HTC EnlargeStart Menu does the same. Maybe it needs some kind of registry hack.

I LOVE the SPB Menu and since I use my fingers 99% of the time on my Touch I don't really have a use for the built in Start menu.
I know there has to be a way to do this, I just hope it is a easy one.
I looked through my registry a bit but I didn't see anything that would change this.
It has to be possible.
Is there a way to do a registry dump, perform the HTC Start Menu Tweak and then perform another dump and somehow compare them to see what has changed?
With Wisbar Advance 3 you can map the start button to anything you want.
I installed Wisbar Advance Desktop to play around with when I first got my Touch. I uninstalled it because I didn't like the functionality. After the uninstall I still have Wisbar icons showing up in some of my menu's. There is no way I am going to install one of their bloated products just to do one simple function.
Hi, i am looking for the same Startbutton tweak.
I want to remove the Startbutton AND the word "Start" right to the button.
Wisbar Lite Taskmanager does remove the word "Start".
I'd like to know how this works, and somehow it must be possible to remove or reassign the Startbutton without installing WAD or WA3, a megapackage for only one function.
If someone has the skills to do this and/or write a simple program to make this happen I wouldn't mind compensating them. Either in $$ or Webhosting!
Nothing is being removed in most of these cases, the start button and or title bar is being covered up.

I don't want anything removed, I just want to change the link on the Start menu to point to something else.
bump it up!
I compared the registry with the large menu on and off and this is all I found. Not much help (for me anyway).
BIG START MENU
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\EnlargeMenu]
"DropDown"=dword:00000000
"Enable"=dword:00000001
LITTLE START MENU
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\EnlargeMenu]
"Enable"=dword:00000000
"DropDown"=dword:00000000

He says that it's not a registry tweak... maybe those programs relocate the title bar and put themselves in that positions looking similar with different functions... That is the way that evb used to work fullscreen (relocating the title bar, sip and taskbar)...
I finally gave in and reinstalled Wisbar Advance. I would rather accomplish this without using Wisbar but for now it will work.
Hi,
on the X2 there is no "Buttons" app in the personal Settings Menu as usual found on like any other Windows Mobile Phone i ever used.
I tried the Vito Button Mapper 4.0 which is rather old and doesn't seem to work.
I want to remap the "Panels" Hardware Button to open the Start Menu instead, since I ripped the Panels off (with the SEUS-Method as described in ROM Development).
I bet this can be done via Registry somewhere, or anybody knows an app able to config the Buttons?
Thanks
After some hours of searching and trying i found the tool "AE Button Plus".
It's not free and not my first choice, since it's a memory resident app running in the background and hooking keys. Supports hold and multiple click stuff too.
I would prefer tweaking it via registry, but can't figure out how.
The key would be:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys]
Under this, the folders represent the buttons, but only two to be found on the X2 and I wasn't able to change them successfully. If anyone could figure this out, I'd be happy!
