tytn as a laptop modem? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

hows the conection done? hopefully usb?
what setting / software are needed on the lappy and tytn?
if at all it can be done?

You can do it through USB, Bluetooth or IrDA.
These instructions are for universal, but the same applies for TyTN:
BlueTooth
IrDA
USB

DUN
Is there a way to use DUN now that it's been disabled because of Internet Sharing?

New Tyten and Vista
Ok, I've been through the 3 ways to connec as a modem, I actually manged to connect ages ago with XP.
I now have a new Tyten, well new for the states but probably old in the rest of the world.
Anyway the New Tyten has a thing called Internet Sharing instead of wireless modem
None of the old settings are there anymore.
It also has a new way to connect via Blue Tooth Pan.
I've tried the Pan way but I had no luck, the connection seemed to work but I couldn't get on the internet.
I then tried USB, I couldn't get Vista to recognise the Tyten, even when I turned off the active synch, anybody got any ideas????

with Vista and WM6 internet sharing I think its easier than DUN. there is a whole how to in the help program on your hermesjust open the help app and search for internet sharing. just make sure your phone and laptop are connected via bluetooth and then open the internet sharing app and click connect make sure its set to bluetooth PAN. on my laptop I have a little bluetooth icon when its on so I right click that and then connect via persoanl network and then a little pop up pops up and I click on the connect bottun and it connects in about 15 seconds pretty easy! I know for USB you have to open the WMDC connection settings and uncheck allow usb connections.

Thanks
Cheers for that, I'll give it a go, although to be honest I've been trying it all afternoon..
I get the connection but no Internet connection..

Help Still needed
Ok, the plot thickens, I found drivers on the HTC Europe site to connect your Hermes to Vista.
I uninstalled all of the previous active synch hardware and also thre previous modem
When I plug the phone in it doesn't open the new downloads.
Any ideas, I'm running Windows 5.1, is there an official Windows 6 I can update to?

Some help with Macbook
So the instructions are great but how does it work on an Apple Macbook? I've searched through the forum many times without any luck. Any ideas on how to connect via USB and/or bluetooth?

Search, then you'll find.
It is ok for me using 10.4.10 with USB via MissingSync.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302977&highlight=MissingSync

this may help...
For anyone having trouble getting their laptop to recognize the 8525 as a modem this may be the solution.
http://www.terranettech.net/DisplayPg.aspx?codeid=1128
my phone was working fine but when I tried to set my wife's up to tether it wouldn't show new hardware found when plugged in and when I tried to manually install the driver the process bix just kinda stalled out and wouldn't go forward with the driver even though I had browsed to the right one. I had to uninstall the driver which was viewing the phone as a serial device. if you're having this trouble then try following te directions in the link above. it worked for me...

Imate pda2 as an external modem to connect notebook via GPS

I have Imate pda 2 .I Want to use it as an external modem and connect my notebook ( Hp Pavillion 4141) to the internet via GPRS through bluetooth
Could someone please give me a step by step ( I am a novice ) instruction as to how to do this?
hi
did u find a solution ! ??? i can help if u r still Not able to do it.
i could do with a hand
i have the O2 XDAIIi. I followed the O2 instructions from there web site. Im connecting my Tosiba Laptop to the XDA via USB. i can get the laptop to see the xda as a wireless modem, it talks to the xda and the xda shows the 'flashing' modem lights on the screen. the problem i have is the laptop just says page cant be displayed. If you have idiot instructions that wouls be great. the laptop is running XP home edition.
Thanks Pete
I'm very interested in this, because I have "free" gprs at the moment, and if i could run my laptop VIA gprs (even if it is slow) it would free my life up alot!
I didn't even manage to get as far as my laptop seeing my XDA IIi as a wireless modem. Could you send me the link on the O2 site on how to get that far?
the site is here
http://www.my-xda.com/xda2i_spec.html
scroll down and you find this and more
http://www.my-xda.com/downloads/SettingUp_XdaII_s_i_modem.pdf
No when I came to set this up I found my XP didnt match the screen shots so did my best.
also it tells you to put the xda in modem opertation when in the cradle but you need to do it before for, so the PC sees it as a modem rather than xda

Hi
Someone knows where to get the HTC USB modem driver ?
I don't have thedisk
Thanks
I got it....should be tagged to this message!!
I also managed to get the thing working in the end...
I uninstalled the modem and the network link.
ran the modem prog on the xda, hit start plugged into the usb on the laptop
The laptop active sync disabled before plug in!!
Finds the HTC modem and installs
Then rather than setting up a connection I launched internet explorer, tool, internet options, connections
set one up through there...
YOU DO NEED to add the initalization string from the O2 instruction sheet for the serial connection though. otherwise it fails the connection
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","MOBILE.O2.CO"
also check out this place for more info on GPRS settup

thats exactly... the way it should be.. 100% working!
anybody out there with a macintosh who has done this??????
Just getting around to trying your instructions.
If this works I will be super happy. More happy than a Chocoholic in a chocolate wearhouse....or an alcoholic with the keys to a brewary.
this stupid board
just to clear this up for the USB mode you still need to enter the string. which can be found on the O2 instructions for the serial connetion of i posted there anyway.
Pete
I attempted to set it up, but got no-where really....
The instructions are very confusing.
tomw86 Ive added you to msm so you if you're on i can try and chat you through it.
Did you get the modem installed??
Here's how I did it.
Open active sync, File, connection settings.
Disable the USB option.
Close Active sync
fire up the XDA, Programs, WModem (wireless modem program)
Plug the XDA into the computer.
It should now find the modem and go through the give me a driver bit. Tell it to go manual and point it to where the drive is located, if it is the one I posted above then you will need to unzip it first (I had to zip it to upload onto here) or point to the location on the cd.
Let me know if you get that far. Ill try and sort out the rest. I got the modem connected and the laptop to talk to it, connecting to O2 but my IE wouldnt connect through it. I ended up removing the connection and staring again and it worked.

Using my XDA2i as a modem to connect my laptop to internet

Hi
I want to use my XDA2i to connect my laptop to the net....
Any ideas how to achieve this, thinking bluetooth laptop to XDA then use GPRS on XDA to connect.
Thanks
Hi,
Look overhere ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]/USB_modem/ for modem driver & documentation.
Cheers, M
Hi
Thanks for the reply, however, I want to connect my laptop through bluetooth to my XDA and use the GPRS on my XDA to connect to the net.
I need to achieve this without using a USB connection, if I understand correctly the link you supplied tells me how to connect USB modem etc.
Maybe I'm completely misunderstanding. It's all so simple using a Nokia 6230i, plug and play virtually!! (until my company deactivated data calls:-()
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Set the Connection Type to Bluetooth in the Wireless Modem program, then push the start button & make the BT connection to your laptop. Hope it works this way or experiment a little with it pls. I use the USB connection & don't have BT on my PC, so can't try the settings myself.
Regards, M
As I assume that you're using Windows vom Micro$oft, just Pair the two devices (not using 'Wireless Modem').
It will automatically install a Bluetooth-Modem
David
Hi
What type of connection do I need, I can only find a network access connection to my laptop, thats all that is available.
I am using a HP laptop with XP home, its a new one so would imagine everything is in order.

Thanks for the replies people...
Although I have to admit I'm struggling still....given up on the bluetooth connection and reverted back to USB cable but still I can't connect.
Here's the steps I have used:
Unticked Active Sync allowing USB connections.
Restarted laptop, connected USB cable to XDA and selected Wireless Modem, used the drop down to select USB and selected Start.....
the documentation etlls me that my laptop will go into a plug and play routine of allowing me to install it as a modem but this does not happen.
And yes, I have admin rights on the laptop.
Do I have to do anything with connections/modems because I haven't.
Am I being thick? Not sure but it's driving me to distraction...
start the modem program on your XDA (Start-Programs) and conenct it, windows will ask for a driver. install the driver from ftp. then create a new modem connection in windows. here (in germany) the number windows must call is *99# (for GPRS/UMTS)
Thank you for your patience...
The XDA installed as stated using driver on FTP, great.
Run up IE, tools, options, connections and added a dial up connection called XDA USB Link.(com8)
Settings of which are:
user name2web
passwordassword
untick automatically detect settings
untick configuration script
untick proxy server
Not sure where I'm going wrong but when I dial it errors with...No dial tone detected.
To recap I am dialing with GPRS connected on XDA and the WModem program connected through USB started
Am I missing something?
Can anyone help??????
Please?????
Try running usbmodemdialer instead of DUN by IE, it's in the package on the ftp.
Cheers, M
Hi
OK, I am now using the HTC USB dialer but I'm receiving an error 734 code, which is a PPP issue.
To recap, I am starting Wmodem, connecting to laptop (GPRS off) using a USB cable. Starting HTC USB Modem with APN as Internet & modem as HTC USB modem.
On XDA I get a connection light, then send and receive lights flash before the lot dissapear. The laptop goes through Connecting/verifying/registering then Remote access error 734.
I'm nearly there...
Please excuse my ignorance on this subject
Thanks
Yeah seems like it again :--(
Upload is running to ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/
Regards, M
Hi
Ive done everything as suggested but I'm getting a 680 error, this I believe is a "no dial tone" error.
Please, where am I going wrong?
Thanks
Gary
Frankly I haven't got the slightest idea what's going wrong. It works like a charm with my magician & Windows XP Sp2.
M
Hm how could the line be busy? are you phoning the same time? (always when you try to connect? sorry silly question.)
Are you sure your provider give you GPRS Access? (i don't know any who don't )
did you a google search on this error?
Hi
Yes, I googled it and it appears to be "No dial tone" not line busy....I'm not in a call when attempting to connect.
I've tried every possible combination of settings......usernames and passwords etc....
There isn't any issues with my laptop and updates etc. I am sys admin by day!!! This is just beating the hell out of me. Incidentally my laptop is a HP pavillion zd8369ea, a new one!!! Alpine is running radio 1.04.
Yes, data calls are enabled on my SIM, I can connect perfectly to IE on XDA and mail etc.
Taken down all firewalls etc and nothing....
Help
Thanks
Gary
Follow the instructions here:
http://www.seeo2.com/html/HowToUse/XdaII/How to setup Wireless Modem for Bluetooth.htm
At part 5. the line you need is:
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","mobile.o2.co.uk","",0,0
At point 11. you don't need a user name or password.

Trinity(HTC3600) vs. Apple Osx

Hi Guys finally i get this nice device but it seem to don't like my MacBook..
For Sync i used the Missing Sync programm and all work Good but for going in Internet using my Trinity as a modem it NO WAY...
Who can slove this problem?
Have you try to use it as a Modem for an apple copmputer?
Thx a lot Guys!
Try this: go to Settings, Connection, USB to PC and uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality". This way the phone should be recognised as a USB modem.
(I don't have a Mac so I haven't tried this myself)
thx i try it but it doesn`t work!
I try on xP and i have the same problem!

I certainly have been trying... the first thing that I find is that when I connect it to the Apple using the USB cable is that it doesn't recognise it. Has anyone had more success with this? The only problem is that I can't remember what happened when I first connected it - perhaps it asked me to set up a connection and I got it wrong. This is my first return to Macs in ten years, so I was a little overwhelmed by trying to get familiar both with it and with a new phone (Dopod D810).
If I did set up a connection... (!) then I think the connection is called "SerialPort-1", and the network report says that it is configured, but not connected. I don't seem to be able to delete it and start again. Maybe the Mac isn't even recognising the USB connection?...? Any feedback would be much appreciated!
This has been discussed many times - no DUN service with Trinity ...
But no problem going online with your MacBook. Make sure you update to the latest OSX.
Then delete old bluetooth connections to Trinity on your MacBook and reconnect using bluetooth
Then start Internet connection sharing on your Trinity - then click on the bluetooth symbol (top right) on your MacBook and choose the New Option connect to Bluetooth Pan (your owner name)
Hope it helps

8525 Bluetooth woes

Hello everyone, Ive searched but come across no help
Im using a Cingular 8525 with the 2.06 firmware and windows vista ultimate. I cant get my computer to connect to it for Dial up networking. My phone allows it to use it (its an option on the phone/laptop when pairing) but it does not connect! It keeps giving me errors. I have tried to enable "Bluetooth DUN instead of USB in the internet sharing app, but nothing changes.
Also, how can I get Windows Mobile Device Center to access my phone via bluetooth? Thank you!!!
can anyone offer assistance? thanks
Anyone at all? This is driving me nuts! I even used two different bluetooth drivers in my vista pc...but still nothing. it works via usb, but not bluetooth. Help???
I got Internet connection sharing working via BT PAN with the new ROM and Vista. Never tried to use it as a modem though.

can you give us your step by step instructions on how to do that?
Id even be ok with getting it to read with a USB cable... After upgrading to WM6, I lost sync support for Vista...
I always take my time before jumping into anything new, On my experience bugs take a while to be sorted out and fixed.
My advice, stick to XP and WM5 for a year at least, then it would be a lot safer to upgrade.

GENE - Internet access thru PC's Bluetooth Connection

I recently successful upgrade my GENE to WM 6.1 because i had many problems.
One of my problems is how to connect my GENE to my PC thru Bluetooth connection, my PC has WIFI connected to router at home.
i searched forums too much for accurate steps to do so, and i think it is a good idea to help all ppl here if i got a clear procedure to do so here.
Thanks in Advance.
I have no time to explain step-by-step here, but the first thing you have to do is make activesync works with bluetooth. When you are done, you could open PIE or opera and access the internet.

Any how, i appreciate your reply.
i'll try to google about this solution.
thanks a ton
Its very easy. I do it all the time.
Make sure BT is on on both PC and phone.
open activesync on phone and right softkey-> connect via bluetooth.
if they aren't paired you'll get the standard pairing screen etc.
now, when pairing make sure activesync is open on the desktop. And make sure activesync-> connection settings on the PC has 'allow connection to one of the following set to the correct COM port for BT (mine is COM12) Ideally, after doing this right, you should have 'activesync' appear as one of the services that your desktop can provide via BT.
Accept and repeat the first step
Note: If you get a dialog asking if serial connection should be made then accept it. (will come on PC)
once connected go to activesync on the PC. In options, select 'The internet' as the network the PC is connected to.
Just play around with the basic settings.
One thing to note is that you might have to configure the COM port on activesync in the desktop.
I set the COM ports up once long ago (purely by trying every combo there was) and forgot exactly how. I think it'll vary from PC to PC. However, I've been re-pairing a lot over and over again cause I've been trying out a lot of different ROMs... And I've not needed to change the COM port settings even once.
Basically, all you need is to connect to activesync via BT and you'll be able to use you's PC's connection on the phone.
This is for XP btw. Vista is mostly similar. I think its more straightforward though... most of the things are done automatically.
Hope it helped
Ya, follow charge1313's advice and if you dont get internet access even after this, download the attached registry file and double click it on your PC and reboot. This will enable the functionality, sometimes it gets disabled specially if you install Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
Have Fun!

SP2 was released on 26 May to public. To get it, go here :
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dd262148.aspx
Size depends on the download you choose, for 32bit machines its 348 MB in size.
Installing it freshened up my 1 year old Vista installation a bit, it became a little speedier. To tell you about the changes, the only thing i have noticed myself is the change of bluetooth stack to version 2.1 of bluetooth standard. The whole interface of bluetooth, the dialog boxes etc are also changed to a bit leaner looking ones
Both ways working .............
hmmmmmmmmmmmm Krazy/charge world
