I setup gmail via pocket outlook works fine, however anyone that knows gmail knows even though you label you emails they are still in your virtual inbox, so if pull my emails it would get everything I have which is a fair amount.
Is there a way to say download only emails from last x days or something to filter ?
Log on to gmail from your pc's web browser and go to settings on the top right -> forwarding and pop -> Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on
Hope that helps
good thinking, now why did I not think of that one
Many Thanks.

I use to have gmail working fine, then all of a sudden it stopped working one day. I've since deleted and re-added the account several times now and still nothing. It says it connects, and it takes the time to download all of the headers etc. however nothing shows up in the inbox? Is there a way to browse the system files to view if it's actually downloading the headers at all?
Weird...The exact same thing happened to me. I did what you did...created a new account on the phone and it says downloading headers, but nothing appears in the Inbox. I'm stumped and a little ticked off that since it was working so well, I started to rely on it more than I should.
use smtp rather than imap. works fine
There is no imap feature for google mail, you have to use pop3, which is what I use. Regardless it was working fine before... now it just doesn't work at all.
Welcome to the world of gmail. Now that the dust has settled, people are starting to see that this really is a beta.
My advice would be to wait patiently. There is probably nothing you can do, it's an issue with gmail. I have had all sorts of problems with gmail, especially with pop3. I reckon it will sort itself out soon enough.
Did you double check how much you set it to download from the message (The screen where you pick to download either headers or full messages) and made sure that require ssl and outgoing mailserver requieres authentication are checked?. It sometimes doesn't work for me, but it's cause of my GPRS connection, I have the $6 t-zones manually set up. Sometimes when I'm trying to check it it won't open the connection, but if I go into connections and open the connection manually it works fine. That's not very common place though.
When I used gmail pop3 it always seemed buggy (on the wizard...), my solution was to have gmail forward a copy of all mail to a free mail2web exchange acc't, and it then gets pushed to the phone. Works flawlessly for me, however, deleting messages read in one place won't effect the other, and outgong mail from the wizard will be from your mail2web address (there may be a way to spoecify a diff sending address, not sure...)
I know this is not really the answer to your problem, but It is what I did...
my prob. seemed to be to many msgs
i just changed the pop setting that says"all mail"or "just mail from now on" to just from now on and it seems to be working, before i had 249 headers to display, i also changed storage to my SD
bhang
I also forward my gmail to mail2web, and tried to setup mail2web on my wizard so that the return address was gmail. No love. I called mail2web and was told that none of their plans (free or not) supported this feature :-(
directpush
There is a gentleman on this site who has offered to setup people on an exchange server that he has setup. It's free, but he does take donations. He set it up for me so that the address that shows up when I send or reply from my MDA is my gmail. all I had to do was forward my gmail to the new exchange account. you might be able to find it by searching port88.org
I set the pop settings to email from today on out or w/e and now my gmail is working =/
For me Gmail auto configs. All I have to put in is my gmail account and it sets everything up automatically and I just have to put in my password. Never had a problem.
I set the pop settings to email from today on out or w/e and now my gmail is working =/
i had this problem once before... i had to go into gmail and turn off pop then turn it back on... after that it worked fine....
Anyone else here have their emails sent from the web client show up on the inbox on their device? How do you get rid of that... One suggestion was a filter but the phone doesnt support filters, and I dont want to add 3rd party pop 3 software as I can scroll through text messages etc. with the standard mailing software.
Hey all,
I've been having some problems with POP3 and gmail on my TyTN/8525. That problem being: it doesn't work anymore. It worked great for about a week, then just stopped working for no apparent reason. I didn't change any of my gmail settings during this time.
After it stopped working, I randomly got 5 of the 100+ e-mails that I was suppsoed to get. Gmail is receiving them fine and I can see them when I login to gmail, they just don't get downloaded when my phone pops it. I can send e-mail through gmail's pop fine.
Anyone have a clue what my problem might be?
Thanks,
Todd

Which wireless provider?
Have you tried deleting the Gmail account on the TyTn and then re-adding it?
Can you POP3 access it from you'r home computer etc (to make sure it is not a Gmail issue)?
If these do not help post you're setup so we can take a look
I think the problem seems to stem from the fact that Gmail breaks down your messages in groups, like around 300 or so messages at a time. On top of that, Pocket IE doesn't download the full messages by default and, as such, leaves a copy of the messages on the server. I think when this happens, Gmail doesn't prepare the next "group" of messages to send to you. Also, Pocket IE, by default, is set to show only messages from the last 3 days, so even though it may have downloaded a bunch of messages, you'll only see the ones that are 3 days old or less. You'll want to uncheck that option.
Try setting up your account as you normally would in the desktop mail app of your choice, Outlook Express for example. Make sure it isn't set to leave a copy of the messages on the server. If Outlook Express didn't download the first group of messages, make sure to do a manual send and receive. That will hopefully tell Gmail to prepare your next group of messages. Alternate Send/Receives with your phone and Gmail until you get to your most recent messages. Also, try putting recent in front of your user name, IE, "recent:[email protected]" instead of just your user name/e-mail address.
i find with gmail that it stops working every few weeks and i have to go into gmail on my pc and re-check the Get all pop email from now, ( it seems there are too many emails to be sent down )
using the "recent:" prefix before your login in your outlook username should fix this.

I have a Nexus One working fine on Orange.
I use it for my Blueyonder email account which is set up just the same as it was on my Hero.
The problem is this:
I get the email notification to say i have new emails, then i go into my emails and the emails are there. Then it starts to refresh my emails and then before my eyes there all disappear! It deletes them before i have chance to read them.
If i then go onto my pc to check my emails there are none there. So its obviously deleting them from the server.
Now i have checked double and triple checked the settings. Its definitely not set to delete from server or even delete when read.
Any help will be appreciated as i dont know what is going on and I'm losing important emails.
I take it you are using the native email client?
Maybe this is not the answer that you are looking for but I use the Gmail App instead of the native Email client. That way I get the benefit of Push without having to refresh.
If you are interested in doing the same then all you have to do is..on your PC:
Gmail > Settings > Accounts and Import > Check mail using POP3: > Add POP3 email account.
Then all blueyonder emails will be pushed to the Gmail App and you can set a label for them as well.
Yes i am. I`m just upset that it doesnt work just like the Hero did. That was spot on..
I`ll try your idea if no one comes up with a solution for me. Cheers.
I agree with Abbsta... you should to add your blueyonder account to gmail and receive all your blueyonder emails in gmail account.
it is much easier and being a google phone it works well with gmail accounts...
I did what you said and its spot on cheers..
Just an update. Spoke to HTC had no idea why it was doing but suggested i use imap instead of pop3.
It worked!
So I notice I have a new email notification, when I check my email in SenseUI, I hit:
Menu > Delete Message
but about 10 or 15mins later, ill get another email notification, it's the same email I just deleted (or so I thought). I've tried this repeatedly and it will still come back. Ill even click the 'Inbox' and see it's gone, only to find out, it came back. The only way it will delete is if I click 'Inbox' instead of 'Menu' and view my email through WinMo, than click the email and hit 'Menu' > 'Delete'.
This is gotta be a bug, how do I go about fixing this? It's really annoying -_-
"Delete" works for me for Exchange account, doesn't work for gmail.
I'm using Gmail, so make sense, but why on earth would it not work for Gmail? This is frustrating.
this just started to happen to me about an hour ago.
I looked through the settings to try to find the keep a copy on the server option but cannot find that for accounts outside of exchange (windows life / outlook) My yahoo and gmail accounts keep pushing emails.
I recreated both accounts and never saw the option to delete the message from the server as well. I have not had time to really look though.
Any update?
Dont use Menu>delete. Just use the soft leftkey DELETE and it wont come back.
have you tried
emails tab - inbox - menu - tools - options - tap the account you are interested in
click send/recieve schedule - bottom of screen click advanced settings and check teh dropdown 'when deleting messages' is set to delete them off the server.
I had this problem with AOL on my HD2 (shush, now. I like AOL mail, dammit!). I found that opening the mail and then deleting it from the menu got rid of the notification, but the mail, itself, would get pushed back every time I got new mail on the server (although without a notification of it being new). It would only truly be deleted when I did so from my PC. It's no biggie as it no longer tells me I have a new message when I don't, but I guess it could be bothersome for folks that get more e-mail than I do.
Note: I don't have this problem with G-mail at all.
I use ICS CM9 email (not gmail). Have not found a setting to increase how many emails should be kept in the program. So if I check my emails and have 30 new all the old ones will disappear. There has to be a setting for this? Why can't I have a few hundred emails there?
Would all so like to know this answer please.
Check sync options. And change days to sync from automatic to however long you want messages to show.

There is no "sync options". There is General settings and the email account settings. In email account settings, there is "incoming settings" but no setting for days (for IMAP. it might be if you're using exchange).
My conclusion is that this is not possible to increase from 25 emails for IMAP or POP. Which makes me wonder, how do everybody get by this? Reload older messages all the time? or everybody use K-9?
Android mail programs don't keep email messages.
You should set your mail account for keeping mails
on the server for xx-days before deleting them.
If you open your mailbox on your pc, it will by default
wipe your mails from your server, nd the next time you sync
/check with your phone all older messages wil be deleted

You misunderstand!
Android email program DOES keep email messages stored locally. The ICS Email app keeps 25 emails. When you get new emails it deletes the older ones locally. you can reload them from the server if you have the patience to wait and if you are online.
Is it really only me and REVHE4D in the whole world that are annoyed by this issue?
If I remember correctly, the Samsung email app does have settings for how many emails to store locally.
I have the same issue.. The Samsung ICS email client doesn't work that well for me, it doesn't delete emails properly.
The stock ICS Email app seems to have like no settings. Why don't they just let us use the GApps Gmail client for our own private imap/pop3 servers as well? The interface is slick, its integrated into the widgets/homescreen... It's so stupid that we're unable to add our own personal accounts to it.
No Nick5000, you are not the only one annoyed by this. I am too, especially because I clearly remember that on my old Galaxy S2 when I was running gingerbread, it kept all my emails up to 500. I don't know why they changed it down to 25.
