I've setup a partnership between my PC and Exec, when running syncronise though its not placing ALL of my Outlook contacts into my PocketPC, certain contacts (nothing special) just aren't put onto the phone.
Whats going on?
Also, I want to upgrade my roms etc, am I right in assuming that I will simply lose all programs/settings etc by doing this, and can only realistically restore my contacts afterwards via ActiveSync?
Yes you are correct, if you upgrade your ROM you start again from scratch, I had the same problem getting contacts back to my phone after upgrading, just wouldn't happen. Done a reboot on my laptop and then SYNC'ed the phone and all the contacts went in no problem.
It's a pain doing an upgrade but it does give you the chance to clear stuff out and get the phone performing better just a learning curve...

Guess I've then got to reinstall TomTom etc?
Also, with so many Roms on offer, which should I upgrade to? I've got an O2 XDA, for some reason the O2's Rom downloads pages seem to have disappeared? But if I can use a different manufacturers Rom, which one ought I to go with?

Funny you mention this EXACT same scenario just a couple weeks after I posted about it here too !
No one really knows the answer to this so far and I understand how infuriating it is!
I had have a number of devices. My main machine was an Xda2i. Using Active Stink 3.8 all worked fine. Got myself an Exec, and upgraded AS to 4.1 (4.2 I think is still a beta) and when syncing, it says 88 contacts, does the sync, does the beeps and only 24 or so actually show up in my exec. No amount of 'show all' and 'all contacts' etc makes a difference.
Now if I sync on 4.1 with my Bro's Xda2s - all contacts appear. I tried on the Xda2i (currently a friend has it) and it updates fine.
I can only think there is some sort of conflict between Contacts in Outlook 2003, Active Stink 4.1 and Windows Mobile 5 ( I borrows a friends brand spanking new Xda Mini S and that did the same).
The only workaround I can conclude is for me to manually re-enter each contact in Outlook after deleting the original record whilst connected to my laptop. Then the newly input contact will show up. However, I've not had time to test this with each contact nor over a period of time.
My next test will be to install a fresh copy of outlook on a fresh install of Win XP pro on the spare hard drive for my laptop. If that 'works' then maybe it's a slightly corrupted Outlook data file - this is what I suspect it is the most.

Well, infact I went ahead last night with the O2 Rom Upgrade, everything went through fine - after doing so I ran ActiveSync and it prompted me to reform the partnership, I did so and it continued to Sync,
After I checked my contacts and like magic, all my Outlook Contacts were back onto the XDA!! I'm amazed!!!
As for TomTom, all settings/favourtes etc were retained, it seems they're stored in the same directory as the map files...hence on my SD card!!

The thing still runs a bit stupidly slowly, so frustrating!! When will someone product an app for the Exec thats sole purpose is to run all the reg hacks that ACTUALLY make any difference!

Am i making a big mistake??? I bought the wizard for its technical capabilities but did not realize the problems i would have in the conversion process.
AAAAHG, I just cant seem to transfer all my data from my palm E2 to the wizard! I have the Palm E2 and a palm IIIx synced on the palm desktop and am trying to convert just the E2 to outlook so i can sync with the wizard (with the intention of selling my E2). I installed outook 2002 (palm desktop already installed) then installed the outlook conduits from the Palm installation cd then did a sync with outook.
Everything seemed to transfer ok to outlook but when i sync to the wizard my contacts and notes seemed to transfer over ok, but my calandar didnt. All i got was the last months appointments! And now when i resync my palm 3 (with a different username) the calendar is shifted 9 hours ahead! I think it set itself to pacific standard time and here in europe its GMT+1. My pc is from that time zone.
Along the way i accidentally erased my calendar on my E2!! AAARRG! What a pain this is. Going to try to resync my E2 with outlook to try to restore my E2 as i dont think i will give up my palm just yet.
Is there another safer way? I did an archive of the pst file from outlook in case everything is lost and will try to resync my wizard later, must restore my palm first as its the only thing i can trust.
Btw i think the standard calendar, notes, memo (does not exist on ppc) function on the ppc is way inferior to the palms. Esthetically and functionally speaking it SUCKS! Is there another program i can install that gives me the same look and funtion of the palms? What the heck is up with having to scroll between day, week, month, year views when on the palm you can just select the icon??????????????
I like the wizard and the funtionality but am having second thoughts.....................
I also did the move from Palm (m500) to the new Wizard (Qteck 9100). Love the new wizard, has some very nice functions on it, but I also miss some standard functionalities of the Palm OS. eg working with categories and remembering the last used category, altough I really love the possibility of WM 5.0 to link different cateogries to one object, which wasn't possible with my palm.
Anyway, to be able to transfer al my data, I first made sure all my Palm data was synchronized correctly with Outlook. I used PocketMirror (sync with outlook) combined with SwitchSync (sync with outlook and Palm Desktop). Try some different settings within PocketMirror to be able to sync different categories correctly (free version only sync's a limited number of categories). Once all this was done, I didn't use my palm anymore and synchronized all my data from within outlook to my pocket pc

Glad to hear that you were successful with the change. Well, i managed to recover all the info that i synched with outlook back to my palm and backed everthing up on the palm desktop, then reinstalled everthing to disassociate with outook. The palms seems to to be refunctionning properly now.
I cant however seem to sync everything i magaged to get to outlook on my wizard! Contacts, notes/memos, were pretty much in tact, but the calendar i only got the last 2 months info. When i resync choosing just the calendar i get an error message saying the profile is not the same. Funny when i was forced to choose the profile and was password protected.
I think i will have to reload outlook and do a hardreset and start over. Fortunately i also exported the outlook pst file. I hope it works. If you have any other ideas, i would appreciate it.
did you try the "delete device" in the ActiveSync application?
This already resolved many activesync problems for me...
ActiveSync will then forget all your specific connection settings and restart a proper sync. connection when you reconnect your wizard.
Thanks for the advice, in fact it worked and i can now see my calendar for all of 2005. Still unsure of how to back up or archive my info. I just did an archive and it deleted my calendar again!!!
I think i will go ahead and reinstall outlook 2002 then synch with the wizard. I think in that case i wont even need to import a backup or archive pst file.
Which version outlook are you using btw. Can i install another version such as 2003, my wizard is in french but i prefer to have outlook in english, i hope there isnt any compatibility problems!!

It works fine with Outlook 2003. I don't know for older versions then 2002.
The language won't be a problem. I use a dutch outlook without problems..

the original condition you reported with your Calendar on your new Wizard is the correct condition. MS assumes you are going to do most of your work on the desktop and will want the complete record there and not necessarily on your device. In order to save device RAM/Flash, ActiveSync only transfers the past 2 weeks of appointments (plus all future appointments). If it got to Outlook correctly, then you've got everything you should have.
If you must have more calendar data on your device, then you need to go to AS Options, click on Calendar, and then click the Settings button. You can have up to 6 months of your past appointments on your device with ActiveSync 4.x.

all calendar appointments or
last two weeks or
last month or
last three months or
last six months - and all upcoming appointments of course.

In the same subject I am an ex-palm user switching to PPC, I have used the same way to get all my Palm memos into my Outlook (hotsync with Outlook as conduit) so the memos ar ein Outlook and readable without problems,
the problem is when I open them into my Wizard : they don't have any body (!)
Has anyone came accross this ?
Hi, I've just upgraded the new O2 rom to my SPV M5000 yesterday and all is fine. Until I notice all my contacts with photos on outlook haven't install on my phone on activsync...loads!
The funny thing is they are all still on my PC. I thought it might have been my categories, but they are all the same.
Has anyone else noticed this or run into problems?

Just going by my own experience, when upgrading to a new ROM version, I have had to set up a new partnership in ActiveSync.
By default the Contacts were not selected to be synchronised, so I had to go into the ActiveSync settings and select them myself.
After that they all copied across no problem.

Yes, one of the many bugs in Activesync 4.1 seems to be that even if you select contacts to be syncronised, the first time it has a habit of dropping contacts from the sync list.
Thankfully for me, when I selected them again, they copied across fine 2nd time onwards.

Thanks for the replies. I deleted my partnership and synchronised the whole lot again....still missing the selected contacts. I wouldn't mind but they're the main contacts I use.
All the contacts that won't sync either had photos or notes attached...odd!
I've had all the spv's that have been released and i've never ran into this problem:-(
Finally I have a proper error with Active sync, and it's been going on for a couple of days now. No matter what I do it's screwed!
Problem is that when trying to sync with my home or work PC's, my JasJar freezes once the contacts have gone across - only a soft reset does anything, so obviously the rest of my syncing can't be done...
If I untick "Contacts" then the other information - Calendar, Files, Tasks, Notes, Favourites - sync perfectly.
Ok, I've tried all of the following to fix this:
a) Soft Resets
b) Removing all Partnerships from both PC's and JasJar
c) Hard Resets
d) Re-flashing the ROM
e) Completely uninstalling Activesync and reinstalling 4.1 on both PC's (including removing all registry settings, profiles, rapi.dll, etc)
f) Removing pim.vol to force a new one to be created
g) Rebuilding my Outlook .pst and mapi.dll files, and importing my contacts from a .csv file to ensure there's no rubbish in there.
Having done all that I have now moved all of my Outlook "Contacts" into another Outlook folder (called - rather unimaginatively - "Contacts 2"). I have connected via a clean Activesync install which has successfully synced all Outlook information (including my empty contacts folder).
I have then started copying each contact back into my original "Contacts" folder one by one...After copying a single contact, Activesync kicks in and synchronises with my JasJar. All good so far, second contact syncs correctly, third, fourth, etc. Then after copying in the 24th contact I get the following error message:
"Synchronisation could not be completed. Try again later.
Support code:80070008"
My question is...What the hell does that mean!? Neither Google, nor microsoft.com have come up with anything helpful on this subject, so does anyone here have any bright ideas, or maybe suggestions on a different approach I could take to sort this problem out, short of formatting my hard drives!?!

This is definately a funny error and one which I think might only be solved with a ROM update, not the same ROM you have but a new one of a different version.
It appears you are the only one with such a problem as there are no others mentioning anything so strange. The fact you can sync some items shows it's not a connection issue. But to be sure check that you have followed this http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx and have all PORTS open?
Also you hint at 'e' that you have 2 PC's? Is this corrent and if so what are the OS's on them? And when you get to the 24th contact does it fail no matter who the 24th contact is?

From your description, it sounds like corruption in the contacts records.
1) By "rebuilding", are you saying that you created a totally new .PST file, before importing data from the .csv file?
2) Did you also check (and repair) the .PST with ScanPST.exe. Typically you'll find it in the path:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033\"
last part will change depending upon the language.
3) As GavinN said, would be interested in knowing if your 24th contact is always the same one, and what happens if you manually create the 24th contact rather than copying it.
4) what happens if you export just the contacts and then import those into a new profile (new .PST file). Can somebody else correctly import and sync with those contacts?
Well, I tried the whole process again, and it allowed me to gt past the 24th contact, so it's not specifically a problem with that contact. In fact, if I reset my device, delete all partnerships, and connect again, it will sync those contacts straight away with no problems. I can then start copying the next lot, one by one, from "Contacts 2" to Contacts, and it'll sync them to my Jasjar, before giving the same error down near the 50th contact. I can then do the same thing again, etc, etc. So I now actually have all of my contacts on my phone. Not the most elegant of solutions, and there's clearly something quite wrong, but it'll do for the weekend, until I can be bothered to figure out something more permanent.
I have a second problem now, in that my Calendar items keep disappearing from my JasJar for no apparent reason. They sync fine, as I mentioned earlier, but if I leave Activesync connected, it kicks in about five minutes after the initial sync, and removes all calendar items, whether they have been entered on the PC or the device. This is clearly getting ridiculous! I'm going to have to put a bit of time and thought into this, but it'll probably have to wait until Monday, otherwise I'll be in trouble with the wife for wasting a weekend!
BTW, I did scan the .pst, when that didn't work I created a new one. Extracting the contacts to .csv and importing them alone into a new .pst before syncing gives the same error. I am now using the latest version of ActiveSync 4.1, although I was previously using AS 4.0 when this problem started. And I'm 99.9% certain that I completely removed absolutely everything AS related in between the two versions.
I think my next plan is going to have to be to completely erase all data, and input it all manually into a fresh .pst. Can't see why this would be any different from importing it from a .csv, but I'm rapidly running out of ideas. The most annoying thing is that this randomly happened in the only week since owning my JasJar where I haven't installed or uninstalled ANY software, changed a setting, or anything! Just as it was all pretty much perfect, look what goes and happens!
Ok, I now feel like a complete idiot, but at least I know what the problem was.
Smartfilter 1.3 is a fantastic piece of software, but it appears that if you keep it running in the background while trying to sync, then your sync won't work (obviously something to do with the way that it loads the contacts)
I could have sworn this was one of the first things I'd tried when I started having this problem, but obviously not...
In case anyone else comes across this problem, here's your answer...At least now you won't have to reset and reflash your device a hundred million times, and destroy / rebuild Outlook and ActiveSync like I did
I'm using smartfilter 1.3 & didn't face that problem while syncing, but mine is Dopod 900. Maybe because of different ROM... just guessing...

Aaaaaaaaaaargh! I've even flashed the latest O2 ROM to my JasJar out of desperation, and it's still doing the same thing! This would be funny if it wasn't so frustrating. It was all working perfectly until last week...Why me!?
I've had the same problem once i think. I dont remember what I did that time to get the same error code you posted though. But I restarted my pc and I was able to sync again. I hope i wont face that same problem again... Goodluck...hope you can sync soon...
Well, I can now sync...I'm still having the same problem when there are a few changes (~25+) to sync accross in one go, but if I kill all running processes with "pocket task manager" and remove all plugins from my today screen, it works flawlessly.
So, it's still not back to normal, but it'll do for now...
Just to wrap this up:
I exported my e-mail to a new pst file, and everything else to .csv,
Opened the csv's in Excel to get rid of any extraneous data,
Started again with a blank pst file on my Win2K machine and imported everything to it,
Synced everything to my JasJar,
Started again with a blank pst file on my WinXP machine,
Synced everything from my JasJar to my XP machine,
All ok now.
Edit: Wow, this is an old post! People are still having very similar problems in the Kaiser forum though, and the solution is still the same. So just wanted to say, if you searched and found this as an answer, don't discount it just because of the age!
i know this is old but i had the same problem, i fixed the problem by doing the following steps
START -> SETTINGS -> SYSTEM -> MEMORY -> RUNNING PROGRAMS -> STOP ALL
did active sync again and it worked fine.
my device is an IMATE Kjam, running the MR CLEAN ROM, 2.3 i think,

Connecting to Activesync but not able to Sync

I am having a strange problem with Active Sync.
When I plug in my mobile with USB and use active sync. it does not synchornise.
I have tried all the options liek chaning schedule, changing the settings and diabling advanced network functionality still I am not able to make the diamond synchronise.
Finally, I download the active sync. 4.5 even then my problem remains the same.
It always shows the message "connected" and fails to synchronise.
Second, i tried copying music files to my diamond and it did not ask for any conversion to mobile format which was not the case before

I'm having a problem syncing my contacts and such. I get an error message stating that I have to install Outlook and retry. I have searched both pcs and they both have outlook on them. Any I deas? I'm using Tomal 8.2 ROM and a work box with XP PRO.

All of a sudden about 2 days ago my phone began to run extremely slow. I cant even describe how slow it was. If I tried to send a 8 word text and after the 4th letter or so it would simply stop recognizing keyboard input. Its acting like its low on ram but I have plenty of memory. If I let it sit, turned on, for a 10 mins or so it might finally show the text so I could then send it. Also, the internet stopped working and it wouldnt connect to my email server (hotmail). I did a hard reset, soft reset and nothing worked. Its acting like it has a virus or something.
Cut to today, I thought I could just reflash it with Black Satin Medium and it would fix everything. It always seemed like a good program and I never had any problems before so I thought I could just reinstall it. It was fine for about an hour and now its moving slow again. I dont know if it could have been one of the .cabs I installed but they are the same cabs I had on my phone for months before it flipped out 2 days ago.
So please help! I use my phone for everything and right now it is unusable!
Once I get that part figured out I need help to figure out how I can get my contacts back onto my 8525. I have flashed my phone before but they always appeared right back onto my phone when I was done. It was effortless. And now I cant figure out how to get my contacts back. On Activesync, when I go to Tools, Options, then try to select Contacts as an item to sync I get a message that says "Activesync cannot synchronize Email, Calander, Contacts, Tasks, and notes, because outlook is not installed on Windows PC. To Sync Email, Calander, Contacts, Tasks, and notes do the following: Disconnect the device, Install and run outlook, and then reconnect the device and try again."
But I have outlook on my PC and 8525. I never use either of them but they are there.
Lastly, and this is another big annoyance, any time I connect my 8525 to my laptop the clock on my phone jumps ahead 3 hours exactly. The time on my computer is the current time and so is the time on my phone. but everytime it jumps forward.

Hi Jim,
1. Hermes is a good device - don't do that with some patience everything will be fine.
2. In such a situation I will go to a major upgrade. Flash new radio e.g. 1.54, and maybe try some of new ROMs - Schap'a or Shamanix
- dont rush to install any cabs first, just see how the device performs for some time. Try syncing with your pc to see can you get the contacts on the devide
- it could be that some of the cabs got corrupted. maybe make sense to download them anew.
- start installing the cabs one by one, with significant time and usage between the installations - you can figure out which one is causing the problem
3. before start syncing for first time, just delete all mobile devices on PC activesync -- >File>Delete Mobile Device
4. Check your regional and clock settings
Have you installed any other software from your PC? I use to have similar problems with early versions of WM6 after installing CE-Star (Asian languages support)

I just installed Schap's WM6 Pro 4.20 ROM and its running much better. It looks to be a great program. I wish the clock wasnt so huge but it all seems to run great.
I still cant get my contacts to sync though. When I put my device name in there and connect using activesync it keeps changing the device name to WM_Owner.
Im playing with it. Any more suggestions could be helpful.
The regional settings were off. So the clock is now good.

Glad to hear that the device start running better
re sync issue - did you delete all mobile devices on Microsoft ActiveSync? after that you should be able to establishe a new partnership between the PC and PPC - then everything must work fine
But if i delete all of my mobile devices it will erase my saved info then my contacts will be lost for ever wont they?

You dont delete any info on your PC, only the partnership between PC and Pocket PC. This will not affect your contacts. After that should establish a new partnership - choosing all settings etc., and everything must be fine.
WARNING! Better first archive your contacts and then proceed.
I deleted one of the two relationships, WM_Owner, and it deleted the folder on my pc with all the info in it. I haven't deleted the WM_James_Klafe2 relationship yet because that's the one that should have all my contact info it it. that was the name of my phone before I installed schap's 4.2
I have it backed up, should I just delete it and see what happens when I reconnect it? should I name my 8525 WM_James_Klafe2 again?
I hate creating more clutter but I started a new thread that specially relates to this problem.

Hi Jimbo69ny,
Personally I test almost every new rom for Hermes, and every time there is a new rom on my device I do three things:
1. name the phone - e.g. WM_James_Klafe2
2. delete partnerships on the PC - do not do any backup etc.
3. establishing new partnership between the pc and ppc
thats all!
All my contacts are synced with no problem, including notes, and other stuff defined for synchronization. in fact your contacts are stored in outlook, and deleteing the partnership do not affects them at all

Damn it Ive been having one problem after another with my 8525 just when I think things are going good there is another set back.
My phone wont sync to my computer anymore. I have Schaps 4.20 installed and I installed the cube earlier today just to see what it was like because I was going to upgrade to shaps 4.3. I really liked it but I its more than I need. Now its time to upgrade and when I connect my phone to my pc i get a message that says "usb device not recognized"

I uninstalled the cube from my ppc did 2 soft resets, restarted my computer and it still wont recognize my pcc
After two hard resets I finally got it to accept Shaps 4.3 rom. It still wouldnt do it after the 1st and 2nd hard reset but for some reason, the last time I connected it via usb, it worked.
THANK GOD! I dont know what happened and why it wouldnt connect but Im happy I fixed.

to best of my knowledge the contacts are stored in outlook. if do not have outlook on your pc i cant say what activesync will sync - my assumption is that you have, as you was able to sync some time ago, dont you?
(on my secnd pc i have outlook express and it syncs too with no problems)
which Cube you have installed? I never had such kind of problems with any cube.
the problem "usb device not recognized" happens from time to time - no idea about the exact reason. sometime it is enough to disconnect the device and connect it again, in few cases i needed to restart the computer - and then it worked with no problems. never did hardreste.
I am confused that you still cannot get your contacts synced. i guess you followed the steps i gave you previously

My first post, so firstly hi to everybody who reads this and as often is the case Plz Help, Hope it's right to start a thread on this as I have little experince with this sort of device, at present I have not suceeded in doing a complete first sync
My wife got an HD2 from O2 and it's causing me to loose my marbles.
Background is
No G3 internet but is connected to the web by Wi-Fi at home.
No emails but use Outlook for contacts, calender, tasks and notes. We also expected it to be able to sync Word Docs but apparently it doesn't, though we have not had an opportunity to get that far yet.
Laptop uses XP pro SP3, Outlook 2007 (Office 2007 Pro) and Active Sync 4.5. using USB cable.
The HD2 has.
Os version 5.2.21864, Rom version 1.43.206.4, Rom date 11/06/09
Over the past few weeks I have managed to migrate every thing from Palm Desktop to Outlook, the biggest problem was the calendar database which given the length of time we have had Palms has grown to 15000 items, eventually had to use pocket copy which worked straight away.
Checked Outlook pst with ScanPST and resolved 4 problems and was confident that would be an end to the problems, then told my wife to get an HD2 as even though it was overfeatured for our business use, it should do what we wanted.
So it was up to me to set it up and this was where the Problems started.
Set up WiFi fine, then tried to go to sync screen through Htc software and kept being asked for an email address, not a good start.
Went to windows 6.5 and opened active sync which did say it needed a connection, so installed Active Sync 4.5 on PC.
Surprised to find a lack of options in options of Active Sync as our caledar goes back to 1995 so the options of 2 weeks, 1,3,6 months or all, really does leave a big gap. what were you doing today last year or two years ago ?
I was always going to sync the calendar first but did not expect it to default to 2 weeks back on first sync, it did work and I could now get in to active sync and set options on device so set calendar to all and did a sync. It got to 2005 (about 11000 enteries) and then Active sync put up error

Since then I have
1. Hard Reset more times than I care to mention
2. Used system Restore.
3. Reinstalled Active sync, and removed all signs in registry at each removal.
The furthest I got was by syncing last 2 weeks and future appointments after syncing up to Nov 2007 but then I tried to last 6 months and it deleted the 12000 enteries on device and ran out of memory.
I do not belive I have run out of memory as having got Calendar synced as far as possible I can then put ticks in Contacts, Notes and Tasks and they then sync without problem.
It does not appear to be corrupt enteries as it does not stop at the same place after resetting up.
If it is running out of memory why would it show 87mb free and this database is going to have to carry on growing and if I have to do a hard reset I will have to go though this again.
I thought I would try to get some help here before returning the device. sometimes if I remove a tick from say contacts it deletes them from device and sometimes not.
As a business device my wife relies on it and at present it really not living upto the hype, We need reliabilty and my confidence is a little shaken, is it possible that the phone is faulty ? Is a database that I can load on a Palm Tungsten really too large for the HD2,
I have searched for updates that might resolve this and notice that others have had similar problems with contacts but no sign of a clear cut fix, nothing mentioned in update info seems to relate to this problem.
I hope I missed something as overall I like the HD2, I would flash the latest Rom but being O2 I imagine I would have problems returning it if it did not fix problem and I am at a loss as to what to do next so advice and help would be really appreciated.
You just don't sync past events more than 2 weeks. The pocket calendar is not meant for an archive. To view old appointments, you need to go back to outlook, exchange or gmail.
Even on palm, you should archive/purge your pim data regularly to avoid it growing indefinitely. On WM, the practise is forced upon you. Only the recent entries appear on WM, and the full set stays on host.
Thanks for the reply Alex, that is not good news, if it went to two years that would have been enough, but 6 months is not enough let alone only 2 weeks.
If I could I would back up outlook.pst and then delete all appointments before say 2008, then Active sync with setting "all", this been the initial sync. I would then set it to last month (in Active sync options/calender/settings) for all future syncs. Then return backed up pst to outlook and go from there.
But when I change from all to 6 months it deletes all but the last six months I have never used Outlook, being used to Palmdesktop so it is a steep learning curve, we have just found duplicate contacts from the sim card in Outlook. So more sorting out.
Is there a more customisable syncing software available, active sync seems so basic it 's making me miss Palm Hotsync though that had issues as well.
