Sync via WiFi in WM5 ??? - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

As far as I know, we can sync our PPC with desktop via USB, Serial, Infrared and Bluetooth. But, in WM2003 we can do it via WiFi too. Does anybody know how to make PPC with WM5 sysnc via WiFi?

there is no way to sync with Wifi in WM5.

Thank you very much, dear brain-damadged guy from microsoft, god bless you for removing wifi-sync from activesync 4.x! Btw, AS4.1 doesn't work on my win2k professional, it cannot connect to the prophet via usb. So I cannot sync at all.
I hate f*cking microsoft and their crappy software!

How can you be sure that we can't sync with Wifi in WM5? How about later version that will be released in the near future?
Why they (Microsoft) has to remove ability to sync with Wifi out from WM5 (this ability available in WM2003)?
Are there any other ways or utilities to do that?

From what I understand, the option to sync via WiFi was removed from AS 4.0 and up for 'security reasons'. AS 4.2 is now out and now WiFi sync in sight.
I remember reading some ware about some kind of bypass for WiFi syncing but can't find the link right now. Try googling.

Still no WiFi Sync, *sigh*

yeah as is at 4.5 and all development as far as i know have stop'd on the product
so i would not hold my breath

With AS 4.5, there is no WiFi synching, and from reading the AS development teams blog, they took it out for security reasons and are not going to bring it back.

Active Sync problems with T-Mobile 2003

Hello,
Ever since I updated my T-Mobile XDA to the 2003 Rom, my active sync will not recognize the device while hooked up to my PC via USB. I saw someone posted a similar problem, but solved it by disabling their computers firewall. I have tried this and still no luck.
Can anyone offer any further assistance for me?
Thanks
Same problem here, but with kitchen 4.00.11 ROM (without T-Mobile customisation). Have no problem at work, cannot get it to work at home.....
Phil
Did you try upgrading activesync to 3.7 or doing a complete re-install of activesync?
Be sure to run the latest version of Activesync. (right now:3.7)
I had the exact same problem before I did...
Regards, Tore
stink and cpu time
is it just me or does active stink really eat up cpu cycles?
both my core and surface go through the roof when its sync'd but fine when its just connected..... when you stop syncronization or pull out the xda... the temps go back down to 33*c and 34*c respectively.... takes up 80+ % of time....
am I the only one with problems like that or have Microsoft just proved they dont have a clue about technology?
running v3.7
sync problems
I have the same issues on mine - can't sync via usb - tried three computers no workie - but ipaq syncs ok
reinstall active sync doesn't work
I can sync via IR w/no problems though
Please note MS stipulate that ActiveSync 3.7 is required for PPC2003 Xda II.
Serial and Infrared work fine with 3.6, but not USB.

Which ROM version are you running 4.00.10 or 4.00.16?
4.00.16
Just Reset Your PDA then connect your usb again

The eternal ActiveSync 4.x problem - please do read!

Hi all
Just looking for some inspiration or help prior to throwing my 9100 (and probably myself at the same time) off the nearest cliff!
I've read all the threads on getting ActiveSync 4.x to work with WM5 but none have seemed to work for me. My problem isn't establishing a partnership - does that fine - it's just that it takes about 2hrs+ to sync my Wizard with Outlook. All the right elements of AS are given the right permissions on my firewall (even tried it with F/W switched off and still no joy!) - just can't figure out why it's taking so long - there's not that much info to sync - in fact, I could probably key it all in manually quicker!
So, unless anyone can suggest otherwise, I figure I've got a couple of options:
1, wait for MS to release their fixed version at the end of November (assuming they do and assuming it fixes the problem - too many assumptions here to get me excited or hopeful!) or
2, buy a BT dongle for my PC and sync over BT instead of USB. Anyone tried this way of syncing? Does it work well?
Kind of last resort really prior to losing my sanity. BTW, this is the only problem/issue I've got with the Wizard (which isn't really a Wizard fault, more Uncle Bill's fault) - it really is a great convergence device!
Thanks for any help.
is your connection from your 9100 straight into the pc or is it via a hub?
also are you connecting using usb 1.1 or 2.0
I have had delay problems since installing zone alarm, sometimes if i disconect the usb at the k-jam end and re-plug in, it then works straight away.
tired both and makes no difference - at the moment it's straight into the pc using usb cable - the usb slots on pc are usb 2, but not sure what speed the cable that's shipped with 9100 is???
have you got zone alarm installed?
nope - norton internet security 2005 with all the latest updates (same goes for XP SP2, Office 2003 SP2, although I have uninstalled the Outlook Junk e-mail filter)

got rid of norton, found zone alarm much more user friendly, apart from activesync 4.1.
never had problems with activesync 4.0
have you ever tried using bluetooth to sync with pc? small investment = less headache - no?
Try booting in safe mode and see if that makes a difference. If it does, you have something starting up that is causing a problem. I have seen nortons internet security cause problems in the past. When you connect via usb, it actually assigns an ip address and configures a network connection. Network connections are controlled by firewalls. I had probs connecting and turned of my firewall and it didnt make a difference. It was the firewall that was causing the prob. Once I got it setup correctly, IE ALL exe's in activesync folders allowed full access, it worked fine. I also use bluetooth to sync and it is just about as fast. It is slower when installing programs or transferring files, but syncing is no prob. Hope this helps.

thanks for the advice - will probably give bluetooth a try - not over concered about security as there's nothing of real value to anyone else on the device.

Activesync schedule and standby

Hi everyone,
first of all i want to thank you all for the excellent work... this forum is really a gold mine...
Anyway, my problem is:
I set Activesync (the one in the phone) to syncronise once every hour with my company's Exchange server between 9:00 and 17:00. As my company entire building is fully covered by WiFi, I was expecting activesync would use WiFi to syncronise, and connected to GPRS when that is not available...
Insted, with my great surprise, Activesync uses always GPRS !
I think that when AS turns the devices on, it finds no connected interfaces - WiFi need at least 5 seconds to connect - so it connects to GPRS!
The only solution I found is to schedule an appointment with an alarm to the device is on (and connected) when AS syncronises, but this leave some ugly "scars" on my calendar...
Anyone knows a solution for this problem?
If I understand You correct You use the Universal for syncing. This means You use ASync 4.0 or 4.1. I recall that Microsoft changed (for security reasons) the way to synchronize with ASync. Bluetooth is still available, but WiFi is NOT available anymore.
Not a nice information, but should "solve" your problem. No sorry, that's not solve, but "answer".
Ruud
Currntly WM5 prevent you to sync with your computer through WiFi, but syncing with Exchange server is working - if I start Activesync manually it syncs using WiFi. If I am too fast (and manage to click sync before the WiFi is connected), it syncs through GPRS.
OK, sorry for that.
I am the one here now receiving information, where I wanted to answer You. Thanks very much for that information, but sorry I cannot be of any help.
I tried to contact with our ExchangeServer. It works through USB whilst connected to my office-PC, but does not work through WiFi, GPRS or even while being connected through USB to my home-PC. I am quite sure it has to do with our Exchangeserver not being configured correctly so I stopped bothering (more important things to do
As I have NO sync with the exchange working through GPRS I am not even getting as far as You are, not even noticing the problem You mention.
Hope somebody else will be of more help.
Ruud
If you are not able to connect from the WiFi network and from home, this means that your system administrator does not trust internet and wireless, so he let you only connect through the office wired network...
I have not tested that, but I believe that Exchange uses an SSL connection, which should be safe even if you are connected through an unencrypted channel...
Normal AS connections (USB for example) are not encrypted, and MS, in its infinite wisdom, think that the user is too stupid to setup a wireless network properly (to be honest, i am still not able to connect with the Universal to my WPA home network)
My/our system administrator is willing to let me in, but simply does not know the exchange server software well enough to understand where he is making a mistake. He offered me to try as he was sure that he prepared the system correctly, the result was a no-go.
When we both get some spare time (which hardly happenes) we will try out some more. As with the internal firewall, spending enough time looking through the microsoft information will finally solve the problem, it's just that lack of time.
Pity that nobody else jumped on this thread yet to help You,
Ruud

Active Sync Problem after I-Mate Upgrade

I can't perform a sync. My computer recognizes the new device, but active sync just hangs showing a window stating: "retrieving settings..."
Any ideas as to how to fix active sync?
I already tried uninstalling active sync and performing a hard reset on my Exec, but it still end up with active sync hanging.
I have the same Problem and no Idea what to do...
OK, I was able to sync using BT. Now when I connect my Exec using USB, my Exec still won't sync via USB. I already checked the settings if I had the check mark on syncing via USB and I do. I can access my SD Card via USB, but it still won't allow me to sync via USB. Any ideas?
I know I am missing a setting somewhere. Hmmmmm.
OK, another update guys, it seems that active sync allows me to install programs without syncing, so to me this is no hindrance, as long as I can access my SD Card and install applications via USB, it's good enough for me. I guess if I want to sync I just have to use BT. But any solutions on your part is also appreciated.
Hi,
somteimes that's an issue related to firewall or antivirus.
If you're using Sygate or Kaspersky that could happen.
If you use Sygate there's a file in Buzzdev.net to solve the issue.
Hope to be helpful

I don't use Sygate. I do have System Suite with NetDefense Firewall. I'll try and disable my firewall to check if that is what causing me to unable to sync via USB. But how come it allows me to access my SD Card and insatall applications if my firewall is blocking active sync. Shouldn't it be blocking all functions of active sync? I'll post my update once I disable my firewall. Thanks durius.
Hi, it's not the firewall.
BUMP,
I still have this problem.
I had the same problem
1. no Activesync exept the first time
2 no Mailsynch via wireless
3 MSN messenger wouldn't log in
I did a hard reset with the same rom and voila
everything works now.
I jus deleted the wireless remove cab from the xtended rom before the hard reset as i wanted the Wireless Today item back
I also had problems with new Rom , installed ActiveSync 4.1 ,big mistake. Rolled back to 4.0 and now all perfect.

Hi,
I had same problem too after installing i-mate ROM - Activesync just kept saying 'Connecting...'. I went into Device Manager, disabled the Windows Mobile card within network cards, checked for updated drivers (it didn't find any so assume this step is irrelevant) then re-enabled the network card and it all worked like a dream.
Hope this helps.
Steve
I had this same issue, drove me crazy. I managed to fix it, but I'm about to be really unhelpful as I din't fix it in a particularly scientific manner.
I was so annoyed that I did the following 3 things, in this order
1 - Went to Device Manager and unistalled Windows Mobile device #X
2 - Uninstalled Activesync build 4.1.41xx, went into \windows\system32 and deleted rapi.dll, then reinstalled version 4.1.40xx something or other
3 - Turned off my firewall
I then managed to sync the phone again, turned the firewall back on. It now syncs fine, but I do still get the msg on the PPC saying "unable to get an IP address"
I sync with two PCs, my home machine and a work laptop. I don't know if maybe I was running two different versions of activesync, but I was able to sync with the laptop even while this was going on.
From what stevegiraffes says, it appears that it was actually step 1 above that fixed the issue. The strange thing was that my PPC device name had been M5000, but after managing to get the damn thing to sync at home it became WM_Ownername again; minor point.
Very odd, but major panic now over
Happy Pi day everyone!

I stand corrected. It was Windows Firewall that caused the problem. I tried disabling both my firewalls again and it worked. Thanks!
Thanks to everyone that responded. I tried all your suggestions, but in the end it was the FIREWALL after all. I am glad this was over.

Active Sync problem when syncing from a different comuter

Hi all.
I had ActiveSync setup back in California on my computer, but now that I am at my parents place and have been trying to setup activesync on there computer to sync with my mda.
I had no problems back in Cali, but now when I load ActiveSync and connect the device, etc. it says that device is not connected and therefore I cannot sync. When I plug the device the computer recongizes that there is a windows mobile device, and ActiveSync tries to connect but with no success.
Does anybody know what I should do to fix this problem? I've searched and haven't really found anything specific to my problems, and I really need to be able to sync my mda for I won't be going back to my computer for a while.
Thanx alot
peter
I'd suspect a firewall issue. Use this guide from Microsoft to troubleshoot ActiveSync 4.0/4.1/4.2 USB Connection Troubleshooting Guide
Good luck!
I've already troubleshooted, and we're talking about the firewall for my internet, right? Because if thats the case I've already disabled the firewall for all of my connections. Would there be other types of firewall that I should be aware of?
*I've tried it on another computer in the house, and I get the same problem. It recongizes a windows mobile device is connected, but it won't pick up the usb connection through activesync.
Thanx again
I am having the EXACT same problem... Does anyone know how to fix it???
Does anyone know how to fix it???
i m having the same problem
hi
i upgrade form 1.6 to 2.2, rom available at t-mobile
its fast but active sync turns green then turn off
nothing happenes
the older 1.6 rom was workin fine
well im still having this problem, so if anybody knows who how to fix it im in need of help.
btw... i haven't upgraded my rom yet.
thanx alot
try file/delete mobile device in activesync and see if it still does it.
Anymore tips??? I havent been able to sync for 2 weeks now!!!!!!!!!
I am having the same problem with my MDA. My 8125 never had this problem its quite the PITA.
May not help...
You may have already tried all this...
First, don't use Activesync 4.2. Uninstall it, reboot, and install 4.1. I couldn't get sync with two PCs with 4.2. Removing it is a nuisance since it starts automatically and doesn't have an off selection; I use activesynctoggle.exe to turn it off. I keep activesync around since activesync problems sometimes can be fixed by turning it off and on again.
Second, if you are running zonealarm or another firewall, the procedure for permitting sync is more complicated; see e.g.
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj/ZA.html
Third, remove the connection from the PC (on activesync, File/Remove Connections) and from the PPC (run activesync when not connected and remove), remove activesync from the PC and reinstall, and start fresh. Use a USB cable and don't mess with Bluetooth -- it is *much* more sensitive, as I found out painfully.
Good luck. It is really amazing that microsoft can't make software that syncs two microsoft operating systems, when Palm can make software that syncs windows with the palm OS reliably. Activesync is one of the worst programs I have ever encountered, and the release of 4.2, which seems to work less well than 4.1, is astounding.
Well my device stopped recognizinig my sim car yesterday so my device is worthless.
DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING THAT CAN HELP!!!!?!?!?! I HAVENT SYNCED IN 25 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
A little more info please. Saying you have the exact same problem isn't enough! (trust me, no two people or computers have the same problems, exactly)
Please post what you're doing, AS version, ROM version... actually anything that might help us possibly help you.
When I connect my 8125 to my computer activesync doesnt recognize it on the computer or the pocket pc. But yet it still makes the chime noise. Im am still able to charge it on my computer, but activesync says "no connection"
ROM version 2.25.11.1 WWE
ROM date: 5/11/06
Radio version 02.25.11
Protocol version 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version 2.25.11.102
Did you even try the suggestions I made?

I have had a similar problem and solved it with those procedures. Activesync is unreasonably sensitive and sometimes removing the program and connection and starting over seems necessary; then it will work until some setting or other gets messed up.
I'm having a similar issue but when I connect my T-Mobile Vario II (HTC Hermes) it starts the process but as soon as it's about to start syncing my PC reboots. I've just got a new laptop and it syncs fine. I've been using ActiveSync for many years and this is the first time I've had this issue. I've also got an Orange SPV C500 (can't remember which HTC device that is) but it's a smartphone and it still syncs fine.
I don't have any software firewall enabled as I'm behind a hardware one. I've looked round the web but no-one seems to have this issue that the system reboots.
Any ideas? I've re-installed ActiveSync, I've not tried removing the partnerships off the device yet but I don't think it's even created on. I've tried repairing Outlook but that didn't help. I may try re-installing Outlook but that is a bit of a last resort.
Thanks in advance,
Rob.
I also had a no connection when I first connect to new computer....
Check the network connections, there should be a new network connection created for the computer/pda, check the properties and make sure all checkboxes are selected.
Mine wasn't ticked in the beginning, and was able to sync after I selected all the boxes...

Windows XP has an event viewer (Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer) that can probably tell you what took down your system. That would help isolate the problem - maybe.
Nothing so far... Does anyone else have any tips...
