Have anyone noticed that the mms software on the new imate (XDA II) is very very slow. When the imate in its factory state the mms client is ok and responsive, but once you sync the contacts it just become very slow (only 350 contats).Does anyone have this problem or its only me?
Yeah. Mine is slow too.
If I look at the message lists in any of the inbox, outbos, sent folders etc, they seem to be continually refreshing making the whole thing very laborious.
I suggest you download the updgrade to 1.6.0.9 that is available at

That's speeded things up considerably
last night, pocket outlook on my Exec had five pop3 mail accounts in it. this morning, they've gone! only "Outlook E-mail" and "Text Messages" are there.
what happened? is there any way to get them back?
has this happened to anyone else?
Yep, my main email account has just disappeared. I have soft reset numerous times and it still hasn't reappeared. i've also tried creating the account again, but it tells me that the account name already exists! next i searched the registry and deleted the references to the email account, but still get the same error message. it's a royal pain, and I don't see any solutions...anywhere!!
Does anyone have a solution?

yeah, same here...
i've upgraded to the new O2 rom - is it a problem with the new ROM, or has anyone seen it with the launch one?

wm5 memory and disappearing mail accounts
I had the same problem (disappearing mail accounts) with my T-Mobile ROM and now with the new O2 ROM.
I think it comes when the accounts in dyn. memory are not committed to static memory when doing a soft rest before switching it OFF. Someone mentioned elsewhere that you should always switch the WM5 machines off before doing a soft rest, in order to commit everything to static memory in WM5.
So what happens if the machines hangs and no dyn. memory can be committed to static memory?
I don't think that's it. my pop gmail disappears seemingly at random download times.
This morning, I had 75 popped gmail messages and then the ping happened to see if there was more email...there were like 4 more...and when they finished downloading, the original 75 were gone. pissed me off somethin wicked.
and that's the latest example. its happened to me a LOT. not resets at all, I haddnet ever reoriented the screen...they just go to the mysterious universe that yor socks disappear to in the laundry
I'm using gmail lite now on my server (the html is generally faster anyway), but WOULD like to find out wtf is going on and how to fix it...
o2 xda exec w/ latest rom (middle of dec), tmobile usa gprs. don't conciously remember if it happened wi previous rom or not...
does anyone know if any of the backup/restore tools available for WM5 would be able to restore the email accounts to Messaging?
(granted, i'd have needed to make a backup before i lost the accounts, but i'm wondering for next time....)
Does anybody know, where the account information is stored?
http://www.tekguru.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=48808#48808
interesting, but i still havent been able to fix it
Does anyone know where the the email account information is stored on the Exec, apart from the registry? i was thinking of having a look around some of the databases, but I'm not sure which reader/editor to use. This is my first PPC, so any recommendations for a database reader/editor would be welcome.
No matter what I delete from the registry, my old, but now invisible email account, IS still there. It's got 4 unread messages showing on the today screen! annoying.
Thanks...

in the same way that there is a software link in Programs to do a Hard Reset (on XDA Exec, anyway), perhaps a software, rather than stylus, Soft Reset would be safer? something that did all of the writing to static memory before resetting. does anyone know how hard this would be to write?
(i know this doesnt solve the problem if the machine hangs, but needing to do a soft reset cos my Exec is being weird/slow/annoying is a common enough occurence that it would still be useful!)
just to confirm - I'm having the same problem. It's extremely annoying. I don't want to use my JasJar for pop mail anymore. The Activesync mail is fine, but not the pop dialup mail.
has anyone contacted O2 (or their network operator is) about this?
Yeah, I dont use it for pop anymore either.
I'm actually wondering if I should just install a different rom over my O2 and if that would solve the issue...?
WM5 pop email is hopeless (independent of ROM)
Hi
I tried my old T-Mobile ROM, de new O2 ROM (in all variants, basic, corporate, vanilla) and stil has problems losing pop email accounts (with the exception of Hotmail <g>). and also losing individual emails in my pop account. Most often it is related to soft resets. I always close all apps before reset. I think memory mgt in WM5 is still bad. I also lose connection settings sometimes.
ah ha - a reply from O2!
Finally! after trying for ages, I spoke to O2 Technical Support today. the guy was very friendly and seemed very helpful...
He seemed really surprised by the problems I described, saying that noone else has reported anything like this happening before. He was dubious when I said of other people here having the same problem, saying that despite supporting the XDA Exec for months and testing/using them extensively they have never encountered this problem or had it reported to them before.
He said that it is likely a result of faulty hardware and that I could send it to O2 for repair, although I am reluctant to do this. being without my pda would be inconvenient, they're never the same after they've been opened up and tinkered with, and I'm not convinced that it's a hardware fault anyway!
so, he's offered to look into it further - asked me to create a new pop3 account tonight and said he will phone me daily to see what happens until it vanishes again. not sure what this will achieve, but if i'm reluctant to send it to them to open up, and he's not seen it before, then what else can he do, I s'pose

Its a start. I'm wondering if using a different email tool will help at all...?
email accounts lost
Tell him that probably the "cemail.vol" database is corrupt (thanks to wm5!). I will try to move it to the SD card by changing the registry path. Search Goocle for "cemail.vol corrupt".
I'm pretty sure this is a 'feature' of WM5 and will happen on all devices. Settings/registry changes stay in RAM for the first few minutes before passing into ROM. So if you soft reset while its still in RAM then you lose it.
Hello!
I got a HTC Wizard (MDA Vario, t-mobile austria).
After a hardreset everything works fine. I can change Ringtone and notification sounds without a problem.
But it seems thath after the first sync with active sync 4.1 (build 4841) i only can hardly change the ringtones or any other notification sounds because it really takes very long (a few minutes)if you click on telephony settings (behaivor occours only on the tab with the sounds) or sounds & notification settings (also only on the tab where you can change the sounds). Device hangs with or without miniSD card inserted.
I only sync mail, contacts, notes, task, appointments and favorites.
Mail, appointments and contacts are synced over Exchange Active sync.
ROM-Version: 1.6.2.1 GER
ROM-Date: 11/14/05
Radio-Version: 01.12.10
Protocol-Version: 4.0.13.23
Is there somebody how knows this issue? Help wanted!
THX

Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37692
I already read this thread and can not belive this....because....
This only occours after the first Sync...before the first sync really everything is fine (also the sounds)
After the first sync the device also is fine and no problem.....until you want to change some sound...if you try to change the sounds AFTER the first sync this will cause the device to hang in this screen and of course if you try to start a new application then it will be very slow....
Maybe i missed something in the other thread or misunterstood something...hopefully not...
Update also got this with MDAPro (Universal)
Hello all...
Just want to tell i also got this issue with my Universal (MDAPro T-Mobile AT)
After hardreset everything is running fast. (sound preferences also)
After Active Sync it tooks very long time (really up to minutes instead of second(s)) to start the telephony preferences or sound and notification preferences.
I just try to reinstall active sync maybe there is some problem in the configuration.
Ill post information as soon it is available.
Regards
GOT a ?BUG? (in my case) ;-) seems to be some kind of DoS
Hi again....
After some testing i found the (a) bug...
It was only ONE note which causes this failure...it seems to some kind of Denial of Service because device only freezes if i got a special note on the device.
I tried this with two MDAPro (Universal) and one MDA Vario (Wizard) and on all devices the system hangs (freezes) if i got this Note on the device...after i removed this note everything was fine again.
Here is the text which the Note contains (without brackets!):
"_flowcontrol.........config für broadcom und intel...."
maybe someone can also try this and post his results or comments here!

Guys,
I've setup a partnership between my PC and Exec, when running syncronise though its not placing ALL of my Outlook contacts into my PocketPC, certain contacts (nothing special) just aren't put onto the phone.
Whats going on?
Also, I want to upgrade my roms etc, am I right in assuming that I will simply lose all programs/settings etc by doing this, and can only realistically restore my contacts afterwards via ActiveSync?
Yes you are correct, if you upgrade your ROM you start again from scratch, I had the same problem getting contacts back to my phone after upgrading, just wouldn't happen. Done a reboot on my laptop and then SYNC'ed the phone and all the contacts went in no problem.
It's a pain doing an upgrade but it does give you the chance to clear stuff out and get the phone performing better just a learning curve...
Many thanks, so once I've re-rommed I simply run Activesync, and it'll automatically put my Outlook Contacts onto my phone?
Guess I've then got to reinstall TomTom etc?
Also, with so many Roms on offer, which should I upgrade to? I've got an O2 XDA, for some reason the O2's Rom downloads pages seem to have disappeared? But if I can use a different manufacturers Rom, which one ought I to go with?
Appreciate your help!
Cheers, Ash
Hi Ashley!
Funny you mention this EXACT same scenario just a couple weeks after I posted about it here too !
No one really knows the answer to this so far and I understand how infuriating it is!
I had have a number of devices. My main machine was an Xda2i. Using Active Stink 3.8 all worked fine. Got myself an Exec, and upgraded AS to 4.1 (4.2 I think is still a beta) and when syncing, it says 88 contacts, does the sync, does the beeps and only 24 or so actually show up in my exec. No amount of 'show all' and 'all contacts' etc makes a difference.
Now if I sync on 4.1 with my Bro's Xda2s - all contacts appear. I tried on the Xda2i (currently a friend has it) and it updates fine.
I can only think there is some sort of conflict between Contacts in Outlook 2003, Active Stink 4.1 and Windows Mobile 5 ( I borrows a friends brand spanking new Xda Mini S and that did the same).
The only workaround I can conclude is for me to manually re-enter each contact in Outlook after deleting the original record whilst connected to my laptop. Then the newly input contact will show up. However, I've not had time to test this with each contact nor over a period of time.
My next test will be to install a fresh copy of outlook on a fresh install of Win XP pro on the spare hard drive for my laptop. If that 'works' then maybe it's a slightly corrupted Outlook data file - this is what I suspect it is the most.
Annoying...
Cheers for now! Dennis! West London UK!!
Well, infact I went ahead last night with the O2 Rom Upgrade, everything went through fine - after doing so I ran ActiveSync and it prompted me to reform the partnership, I did so and it continued to Sync,
After I checked my contacts and like magic, all my Outlook Contacts were back onto the XDA!! I'm amazed!!!
As for TomTom, all settings/favourtes etc were retained, it seems they're stored in the same directory as the map files...hence on my SD card!!
Beautiful!
The thing still runs a bit stupidly slowly, so frustrating!! When will someone product an app for the Exec thats sole purpose is to run all the reg hacks that ACTUALLY make any difference!
Hi - I have just purchased an MDA Touch Plus (HTC Touch Dual) second hand and it hasn't got the T-Mobile (UK) rom on it but something from "Black Mary". Now, I understand that this seems to be an update to WM6.1 and de-branded and all, but one of the reasons I got the WM device was for syncing to my Hotmail email - I have seen that Hotmail email can be received in the standard Inbox application.
Well - this device doesn't appear to have MSN Messenger or any way to access Hotmail from anything other than the web browser....is this something that has been removed from the rom version I have and if so, how do I go back to an original ROM? I have tried at HTC but when I put in the serial number of the device it says that the ROM they have is not suitable (presumably because I am using a T-Mobile and not generic device).
Any help would be great - been out of the WM land for over a year and feel a bit out of date!
I think you could find the original ROM in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373452
You also can just install the Windows Live software into your Niki again.

Thanks - can't find the T-Mobile UK ROM anywhere in that thread - seems that there are loads of people wanting that one!
So much for Windows Live. Installed...sync'd....downloaded email once. Now sync fails every time. Seems to happen to a LOT of people on a lot of devices. Bit too much to ask MS to get their OS talking to their email servers. Oh well.
I don't know if hotmail supports it, but I use gmail with IMAP4, and it works like a charm, maybe that'll help?
or forward you hm to web2mail and have it "pushed" to your phone
