last night, pocket outlook on my Exec had five pop3 mail accounts in it. this morning, they've gone! only "Outlook E-mail" and "Text Messages" are there.
what happened? is there any way to get them back?
has this happened to anyone else?
Yep, my main email account has just disappeared. I have soft reset numerous times and it still hasn't reappeared. i've also tried creating the account again, but it tells me that the account name already exists! next i searched the registry and deleted the references to the email account, but still get the same error message. it's a royal pain, and I don't see any solutions...anywhere!!
Does anyone have a solution?

yeah, same here...
i've upgraded to the new O2 rom - is it a problem with the new ROM, or has anyone seen it with the launch one?

wm5 memory and disappearing mail accounts
I had the same problem (disappearing mail accounts) with my T-Mobile ROM and now with the new O2 ROM.
I think it comes when the accounts in dyn. memory are not committed to static memory when doing a soft rest before switching it OFF. Someone mentioned elsewhere that you should always switch the WM5 machines off before doing a soft rest, in order to commit everything to static memory in WM5.
So what happens if the machines hangs and no dyn. memory can be committed to static memory?
I don't think that's it. my pop gmail disappears seemingly at random download times.
This morning, I had 75 popped gmail messages and then the ping happened to see if there was more email...there were like 4 more...and when they finished downloading, the original 75 were gone. pissed me off somethin wicked.
and that's the latest example. its happened to me a LOT. not resets at all, I haddnet ever reoriented the screen...they just go to the mysterious universe that yor socks disappear to in the laundry
I'm using gmail lite now on my server (the html is generally faster anyway), but WOULD like to find out wtf is going on and how to fix it...
o2 xda exec w/ latest rom (middle of dec), tmobile usa gprs. don't conciously remember if it happened wi previous rom or not...
does anyone know if any of the backup/restore tools available for WM5 would be able to restore the email accounts to Messaging?
(granted, i'd have needed to make a backup before i lost the accounts, but i'm wondering for next time....)
Does anybody know, where the account information is stored?
http://www.tekguru.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=48808#48808
interesting, but i still havent been able to fix it
Does anyone know where the the email account information is stored on the Exec, apart from the registry? i was thinking of having a look around some of the databases, but I'm not sure which reader/editor to use. This is my first PPC, so any recommendations for a database reader/editor would be welcome.
No matter what I delete from the registry, my old, but now invisible email account, IS still there. It's got 4 unread messages showing on the today screen! annoying.
Thanks...

in the same way that there is a software link in Programs to do a Hard Reset (on XDA Exec, anyway), perhaps a software, rather than stylus, Soft Reset would be safer? something that did all of the writing to static memory before resetting. does anyone know how hard this would be to write?
(i know this doesnt solve the problem if the machine hangs, but needing to do a soft reset cos my Exec is being weird/slow/annoying is a common enough occurence that it would still be useful!)
just to confirm - I'm having the same problem. It's extremely annoying. I don't want to use my JasJar for pop mail anymore. The Activesync mail is fine, but not the pop dialup mail.
has anyone contacted O2 (or their network operator is) about this?
Yeah, I dont use it for pop anymore either.
I'm actually wondering if I should just install a different rom over my O2 and if that would solve the issue...?
WM5 pop email is hopeless (independent of ROM)
Hi
I tried my old T-Mobile ROM, de new O2 ROM (in all variants, basic, corporate, vanilla) and stil has problems losing pop email accounts (with the exception of Hotmail <g>). and also losing individual emails in my pop account. Most often it is related to soft resets. I always close all apps before reset. I think memory mgt in WM5 is still bad. I also lose connection settings sometimes.
ah ha - a reply from O2!
Finally! after trying for ages, I spoke to O2 Technical Support today. the guy was very friendly and seemed very helpful...
He seemed really surprised by the problems I described, saying that noone else has reported anything like this happening before. He was dubious when I said of other people here having the same problem, saying that despite supporting the XDA Exec for months and testing/using them extensively they have never encountered this problem or had it reported to them before.
He said that it is likely a result of faulty hardware and that I could send it to O2 for repair, although I am reluctant to do this. being without my pda would be inconvenient, they're never the same after they've been opened up and tinkered with, and I'm not convinced that it's a hardware fault anyway!
so, he's offered to look into it further - asked me to create a new pop3 account tonight and said he will phone me daily to see what happens until it vanishes again. not sure what this will achieve, but if i'm reluctant to send it to them to open up, and he's not seen it before, then what else can he do, I s'pose

Its a start. I'm wondering if using a different email tool will help at all...?
email accounts lost
Tell him that probably the "cemail.vol" database is corrupt (thanks to wm5!). I will try to move it to the SD card by changing the registry path. Search Goocle for "cemail.vol corrupt".
I'm pretty sure this is a 'feature' of WM5 and will happen on all devices. Settings/registry changes stay in RAM for the first few minutes before passing into ROM. So if you soft reset while its still in RAM then you lose it.

hello, if this has allready been asked can someone please point me to it as I cant find it
The question relates to a known issue with the email clients dissapearing after a soft reset. My problem is that they are still resident in the message menu, though when clicked on do nothing. And if I try to open them up again by the new account option it will not let me as it allready exits. How do I delete these entries so that they do not show up :?
me too......
I wouldn't mind a solution to this too. I've got an AWOL email account sitting on my today screen also.
Fish
Send mine to service, they switched the mainboard, no problems since!!
Seems a bit extreme, a mainboard transplant. I can't help think that it's a software problem.
I can find references to the number of unread emails displayed on the today screen in plain text in the registry, played a bit but not successfully.
Hmm, I think this may run and run.
Fish
It actually happened to my previous BA with WM5....
For my O2 Exec, what happened is sometimes:
1. When I receive an email from a Yahoo POP account, there is a link to some website.
2. I click the link and it divert to the PIE. It downloads a bit and then suddenly terminate itself. No matter how I try reopen the website it just doesn't work.
3. So, I reset the machine and the emails just downloaded in the Yahoo account were GONE!!! But the account is still there. I just have to download it again.
So, I think it's all related to the persistent storage that it needs more times to store the messages into the device.....I guess.
Anyway, my POP accounts didn't disappear again compared to my previous BA. Hopefully, an OS upgrade can solve this problem.
Cheers,
Hi.
I just got my Trinity today and apart from one small problem i love it.
The problem is mailaccountrepair cannot recover my lost pop email account after a soft reset.
TBH I thought the Trinity didn't suffer from the dreaded WM5 disappearing pop email syndrome. But when i saw that it did i said i'd just put up with it.
But then i discover that mailaccountrepair (the little app that recovers lost pop email accounts) isn't able to recover mine.
Please help.
I know somebody here can sort this out for me.
As i said so far i like everything else about this device so i hope it won't be marred by this stupid email problem (I really don't want to return it either..).
Thanks.
Hi,
Just to know, are you able to create a new account with the same name ?
If no, you should have a message saying that this name is already in use ... in this case, the little app should work.
If you can create it, then your mail account seems to be really lost and not recoverable.
There is a new version of this apps since few days, perhaps it can help. If not, let me know.
I have a problem with my HD2 forgeting passwords and account details for a number of apps and system settings. Now I know the Facebook login has been mentioned on another thread (although not sorted), but my HD2 is also fogetting the following after every soft reset or flat battery etc: -
Data Connection. It needs to be set as if it is the first time I have used the phone
Email. It forgets the passwords for the accounts, the download schedule/settings, and the signatures etc
Wi-Fi. Forgets all keys
Other Apps. Forgets passwords, and Facebook will never remember the details even though I check the remember my details box.
If this has been covered and I have missed it my apologies, but I can't find a thread, and if there has been I would be greatful for a link to it.
This problem is really causing me a headache at the moment. This (as always) seems to happen just at a crucial moment at work when I am in the middle of something and I have to soft reset; that would be enough of a pain usually, but now I have to reset the data, add the settings to my email accounts, re-enter wi-fi key, change my signature.....
I have been thinking that a hard reset might fix this, but thought I would ask on here first because I am not looking forward to the prospect of re-instiing my Tom Tom and everything else.
Thanks.
I've started getting the Facebook app problem in the last day or so, why won't it remember me?!?!
Losing email and data settings
Searched but can't find a solution to this problem, It's just started to happen to me on a 6 month old phone. Can't see anything I've altered in the last few days. Did OP find a solution?
The problem stopped and has not happened since. I did not find a solution, it just seemed to sort itself out.
OK. Thanks for the reply, will see if mine resolves itself
any idea of a fix for this problem?
Swype keyboard when installed sometimes has a tendency to wipe the passwords.
i found disabling sense and installing spb mobile shell fixed this issue for me. prior to that it was brutal. hard reset after hard reset.
jason
didn't get this problem in a while already.
I have this funny theory that MAY be true or not: if you need to softreset, before doing that make sure that all the applications that use those data are closed.
i.e., before softreset close with a task manager pocket outlook mail, and wireless properties if they're open

indeed, it is not a theory. the key-db is shared between apps (at least the one for wifi+activesync keys), and a softreset may corrupt it.

I agree. My HD2 has had this problem (again!!!) for the last couple of days now, and it seemed to start when the phone locked out and I had to remove the battery to reset.
And this time I decided to stop attempting to fix it and just bite the bullet and do a hard reset with the stock rom, which did nothing. Yesterday I changed rom to Energyrom and it still hasn't fixed it. Surely a hard reset/rom change should fix this issue?
Anyway taking the positives, forcing me to hard reset made me try a custom rom for the first time
Has anyone put in a complaint to HTC regarding this? I can put up with most niggles using WM/HTC, but losing exchange details and email account passwords all day is beyond a joke for business users.
Hi
I got a problem...
I have a two weeks old HD2 and i have done full reset 5 times allready.
First it works well but after awhile it starts slowing down till it doesent react almost to anything. Even making a phonecall is impossible. And at that point there is nothing to do but full reset.
There is no other software installed.
I have Outlook and Gmail configured and in use.
I have recent rom.
Have someone else experienced the same?
Thanks.
Hello and welcome,
There are a number of threads on this. Start by taking a look at the hints & tips thread at the top of this page then search for the thread "HD2 died--or did it" to start to understand what you can do about your issues.
Use this...http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all to help you search.
All the best,

ROM version?
Any tweaks?
Any restored sms/mms/calls history?
sd card with/with out?
hotfixes?
I took my phone and had it repaired by local htc service. All they did was an update to rom. That was the same i allready had (1.48...).
As earlier said i have two email accounts in use. Outlook works well. I think there is something with Gmail account. I have something like 2600 emails in that account. After i configure Gmail account it seems that phone just hangs after awhile. After deleting this account phone works as it should.
How could that be? There should be enough resources within phone.

Can you tell us how many phones come with more memory? Of course, where one installs programs can eat up memory, as well as the size of the ROM, cache, etc. But, still, what phone are you using with more memory or what phones are presently being sold on the market that come with more ROM and RAM? (I am wondering if your knowledge of products presently on the mobile market is equal to your rather lame and misleading sarcasm.)
Your post was certainly not helpful in terms of helping the OP solve his problem.

Did you download all 2600 emails from Gmail plus how many you have in Outlook into your HD2? Seems that if you did, that would be enough to bog down the speed of any phone and clog up the works enough that resets would be necessary. Check and see how much memory your emails are taking up. You might be surprised.
Why not just use the option to only download the last 3 days of your Gmail? Is there any reason you need to store all your Gmails on your phone?
Can't seem to find anyone else who has this problem.
Every so often it forgets passwords for my Gmail account & Wireless Wep key.
I will randomly have to re-setup my gmail account, along with it loosing my wep key, which is highly annoying to have to re-enter it.
I'm on crappy 1.43 rom as I am waiting, along with many others, the release of the O2 rom update.
If this is just a problem with 1.43, then I'm happy to wait for the offical O2 update.
Never had this issue, but I've been on ROM 1.48 out the box and upgraded since so can't relaly comment...

Just made a similar post
I am hit the first time. I have 1.48 rom.
Seems there are 3 threads started within the last day with the same issue. I don't know what triggered it today but recently when I installed swype it had the same effect. And another time when I transferred the simcard to another phone and back it did it. It is a real pain.
Linked to swype possibly?
By the way I am using sea wwe 1.66 rom with the 2.08.50.08_2 radio.

From the Sense page (the outside), use the right soft button to get the settings. Retype everything. It will recreate the accounts in Inbox (the inside). I don't know a better method.
It is a matter of SWYPE.
Just uninstall it and use the normal keyboard.
Then ur safe.
I answered the question 3 times in the last 2 days.
Just go to email tab, click menu -> account settings
choose your acount and enter the missing entries (pop/imap, smtp and maybe password)
Then click finish and it will work again and appear in the list again.
In germany o2 already released the new rom. look in the forums maybe it is out for uk too.

I bet it is the price for using SWYPE. Swype is included in the US hd2, isnt it?
When i used it most passw. i entered hadnt been remembered...
Use the default keyboard instead (as i hope it is additionally included in the US HD2)
Well it hasnt happened recently, so seems to have solved itself...*touch wood*...
This has nothing to do with SWYPE, I have had this problem using stock 1.66 and Duttys HG 1.3
As far as I can tell it has to do with whenever you install a some programs or make a change in the registry.

You cannot say it like that as most people facing the problem did install swype.
your solution is not a solution. i installed a lot programs and did reg changes and everything works 4 me. only when i use SWYPE passes arent saved regulary. so maybe next time you post your idea as an addition but dont exclude most common reasons for the problem. even more when you give hints that dont help anybody...

Dont get your panty in a twist. I was just saying that it doesnt seem to only be a SWYPE problem. I too have done many reg changes and installed many programs without a problem but sometimes the problem does occur then. Even without SWYPE being remotely present.
So maybe next time shut your trap and dont reply if it doesnt add anything to the topic...
I have this problem also on TMOUS stock install, the onlything I have upgraded or installed was wifirouter, and upgraded Facebook from WinMarketplace.

anyone know?
just happened to me again this morning. havent been using swype much..
This resetting rubbish has happened to me a few times in fact i just spent the last few minutes setting up my emails again. I can't pin point the reason for it happening and before someone else blames swype, I'm using non devise ID modding one. Really is very annoying will have to wait till i get home to reset the wifi passwords. I'm sure i saw a quick method of recovering email accounts which I'll post when i find it.
