Hi,
Ive recently bought a XDA mini S, and so far im pretty impressed! Just having a bit of difficulting, adding software and games because a lot of them seem to be .PRC files. When I double click on them on my laptop it just says unable to open file? I have succesfully download some software but the have been exe files.
Thanks for your help!
Tom
You can't open these .prc files natively because they were not coded to windows mobile, or any windows version for that matter.
.prc files are coded specifically for palm os handhelds or smartphones like the treo 650 or 700p.
It's like trying opening a MAC OS file on a windows xp.
Though u CANNOT open windows mobile files on palm os, you CAN open .prc files through emulation on windows mobile, on a program called styleTap. (http://www.styletap.com)
It's not free but it does have a trial so u can try it out if u like. Personally i found that it really works well.
Well that would bloody explain it!
Cheers mate!

Ok my reason for starting this thread is to try and get a copy of all the files pretaining to the operation of Windows Media Player 10.
Can anyone out there provide any helpful files, sometihng along the lines of OS file copies of any device running Windows Mobile SE versions that run Media Player 10.
A registry dump would also be very handy.
Although it seems fairly futile trying to get 10 to work on XDA II devices, this is my goal and I want to give it my best. So if you can help make yourself known.
Cheers

Any XDAII mini / JAM users willing to upload some OS files?
Hey if you find anything please post and share. I've been looking for the same but no luck so far.
good luck.
I really don't understand why are you looking for windows media player 10 for Windows 2k3 edition,
Can't you simply upgrade to Win2k3SE 2.20 CHS version,it is translated to English and I don't find any big lack..i am using it since it was posted on Xda-developers.
you can see english words but it's always a CHS version.
Exactly, the point of this is to have media player 10 installable via a cab.
I'm using forzenzero's SE upload and i find it very good, however having mentioned that the chinese conversion has media player 10 I might have to install the rom and pull the files off of it if no one else is forth coming
is that even possible if its coded right in to 2003se
Again, I'm trying to make this work. Once the attempt is made we'll know if its possible or not.
RE: Media Player 10 Files
Here are some things I've collected:
The Media player files are from WM2003se WWE, the Windows Folder is a part copy of the CHS version as is the Registry.
Hope this might help you.
is there any way to get this to work on PDA2k? Has anyone been able to gte WMP10 up and running on PDA2k? and what are the steps? Thanks.
Anybody got anywhere with this? I am trying with a different device, I am using an orange SPV c500 (HTC Typhoon) which runs Windows Mobile 2003SE but Each time I try to run it I get a message saying the file is not digitally signed. My phone is app-unlocked so it should run anything that isn't digitally signed
Any ideas??
Has anyone got any further with this ?
Surely if we can hack the chs version of wm2003se to english, we can rip the wm10 out of it also.
Turns out I won't get anywhere with this,
the:
windows mobile 2003SE Pocket PC
is totally different to:
windows mobile 2003SE Smartphone
Would be nice if anyone can progress with this!
I know this is an old topic, but I thought I'd ask a quick question. I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to take what you guys have done for the xda line and apply it to a non xda device. Specifically I'm talking about bringing WMP 10 to either the Ipaq hx4705 or Ipa 6315. If anyone has any ideas on how to do this I'd be most grateful. I understand that I'd need to get a ROM image of the Ipaq, which I'm assuming I'd be able to create myself. Insofar as getting an ROM with WMP 10 I can get a copy of the Axim 50 which has it.

WMP10
Any luck for WMP10 on WM2003SE Bros?
I am not upgrading to WM2005 so was kinda looking forward to having WMP10 on my old trusty Xda II.
Hi guys, i know this sound a bit stupid but i'm having problem installing games in my atom. i have this file with .PRC extension but i dunno how to execute it. Can any of the experts help me out on this? thanks a lot!
.prc are mobipocket eBook and not some games.
PRC are Palm stuff. Mobipocket uses PRC because it use to be written for Palm devices. And when they shift over to Windows system, they keep their tradition.
No, you can't install PRC stuff in WM5. They are for Palm. If you have a Palm, just copy it into the SD card and you will be able to see it on your Palm, or use Palm's quick install.
thanks guys! wonder why the website stated it's compatible with WM5. Looks like i have to search for more website then!
I have discovered this GPS is a Windows Mobile! It's not a phone, but has beautiful specs, Active Sync inside, you can browse files in the 2GB flash memory, but read only files.
Please hack it!

Try to imagine what could you do with this features...it's better than a PSP, GPS onboard.

No where does it say that it is Win Mobile !!!
No windows mobile and even if sony wanted to put a OS on it, they would put symbian.
Actually it's a Windows CE 5 Core.
Most sat navs run with this these days.
PsiDOC
I'm assuming the OP found out when he connected it to a PC with ActiveSync installed and it started up the sync process..
As psiDOC says a lot of PND's do run winCE as the base OS.. Mainly 4.x mind but some recent ones have 5, there are some hacks around to change some of them back to a Windows Mobile devices..
Have a look round google or pocketgpsworld forums for information on this.. it will void warranty of course and i havent seen one for any nav-u devices yet
Yes, I understood was a WinCE when I connected to Active Sync. Folders structure is the same as my phone (imate SP5M), so I tought it was possible to do something.
This is a brand new model, so maybe nobody tried the hack yet.
But I'm not so expert about hacking, it would be possible on this nav?
It's not so much about hacking the unit, more like cooking up a rom for the device. I have been playing with GPS roms for a while and made basic hacks using a hex editor and then editing the checksums, but have never found a suitable rom kitchen to help with a complete rom rebuild.

Okay, right part of the forum this time.
I need the old WM5 (Or earlier, whatever anyone has) version of Pocket Internet Explorer because a remote control program I have for my desktop PC won't work with the new version, and alternate browsers (I've tried all I can find) don't seem to be able to launch the client program that it needs to work. So, if anyone has a copy of this or can at least tell me a way to extract it from my old pocket PC (it's in there, but a locked system file that I can't figure out how to copy) it would be enormously appreciated. If not, can someone recommend a really fast remote control server/client application for Windows XP/WM 6? I tried a VNC combo a while back and it was too slow to use for what I'd need it for (Do different VNC server apps work faster?) and I don't have XP Pro, so I don't think I can use the WM6 Remote Desktop Mobile app (As it seems to require that remote server that XP Pro has.. Can't recall the name right now) I saw the WM6 version of Internet Explorer Mobile on the forums archive, so I know it's possible to extract the IE programs I just can't figure out for the life of me how it was done. x.x Not to mention I'm not even sure if the old version of PIE will help this problem any. Seeing as how I am running out of ideas though, I have to try it. I'll update in this thread if I get any new information.
Thanks in advance,
Vena
Update -- Issue resolved! After much googleing, and tons of sites with no answer, I solved the problem myself with a good, old-fashioned directory peek. *feels stupid for not checking this first* See, there was a file in the directory of the remote control program I was using, and all I had to do was add some lines to tell it what the new internet explorer was. Once I did that, and reloaded the program a few times, it worked perfectly. So, if anyone else ever has any trouble with getting Remotely Anywhere to work on a WM6 device, just unzip the attached file and put it in the Remotely Anywhere install directory (Probably C:\Program Files\Remotely Anywhere).
I would like to brows all the HD2 directorys from my main PC.
I'm sure I was able to do this with one of my old HTC phones, and some extra program.
Anyone here who might have some more info on this?
PS: I know that I can do this directly from my HD2.

you can except /windows directory (as it tends to kill activesync)
just browse device from activesync/windows mobile device centre or through file explorer in vista/windows 7
Hmm, I can browse everything including \Windows from Vista... You just need to enable display of hiddent/system files on your PC.

I think it depends on how many files you have in there, and how reliable the hardware is, I've seen a few devices bring the connection down. Admittedly on older pcs so often that I haven't tried it lately.
EDIT: Just trying it on my Xps 1710 and it's struggling with /windows, it has loaded the directory, but it took 4 minutes!
Free and perfect.
