Missing Installation CD-ROM and Manual - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hello all,
I have just bought the Jasjar on ebay, after months of hoping and dreaming!
The unit works fine, but the twit who sold it to me has 'lost' the original CD and manual, leaving me with no way of:
Syncing to my computer (tried it, but XP demands the install software)
Working out how to use the phone element (such as sending text messages).
Generous souls that they are at clubimate, they want to charge me $60 for this information!
I was wondering if someone might be able to send me a copy of the files / a torrent of the disk, so that i can at least install it on my home computer and read the .pdf manual.
Much appreciation in advance!
Stephen

active sync can be found on the ftp
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Universal/Tools_Programs/active_sync_4.1.zip
manuals can also be found on the ftp
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Universal/Original_German_and_Englsh_Manuals_etc/
have fun with it

Many thanks.
Is this ftp to the activesync the one that the computer will install so that it recognises the Jasjar? I downloaded activesync to my pc, but when I connected up my jasjar, my computer wouldn't recognise it, because the 'Install new hardware' utility had not completed!

Aha! The ftp part of this site appears to be the possible solution to my problems. When I connect my jasjar to the pc, which software file would I direct the 'hardware installer' to though?
Many thanks for your help so far!

there shouldnt be a ´hawdware installer´... active sync should recognise the jasjar without problems...
do u have it connected directly to the pc or to a usb-hub? try doing it directly

I was using activesync 3.8 from the windows website. Could that have an effect?
When plugged it, the bubble pops up, saying Device recognised: POCKET PC USB SYNC, and then the Hardware install dialog box comes up.
I will try with the latest version of Activesync, and see what difference it makes.

Wm5 (which is on your universal) only works with AS 4.0 or higher. Check the ftp for that or download directly from MS. I recommend AS 4.1, since it is much more stable than 4.0.

ActiveSync 4.0 doesnt work with aku2 roms if i remember correctly so try 4.1 (link can be found in my 1st post in this topic)

Okay, I downloaded and installed Activesync, and it will still not recognise my JJ, saying it cannot be found. At the same time, the computer says 'USB Device not recognised'. Argh!

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
My XDA Exec has just been replaced by O2, but my PC reports the 'USB Device not recognised' error. I suspected the new phone but I plugged it into my laptop and that works fine.
Im pulling my hair out here, its very frustrating. I have installed 4.2, uninstalled, tried 4.1, no luck.
I tried connecting with the phone switched off, no difference. Tried after both PC and phone rebooted, no luck.
There must be something in the Windows USB settings that has gotten screwed up, but I don't know enough of that area to feel brave enough to tamper with it.
Any ideas guys?
Thanks
Nasdaq

Ah, I have a solution to my problem!
After many reinstalls of different versions, I had a brainwave, why not try syncing when no other USB devices are attached! Hey presto! It works!!
I found that my USB Skype phone was conflicting somehow, so unplugging that works fine. I'll sort the USB phone out later, being able to sync is much more important atm.
Cheers

JasJar USB connection problem - please help

I 'suddenly' am unable to have my JasJar connected to Activesync. I have been successfully connecting the last two weeks and did not cahange anything to the PC's set-up.
I killed my antivirus and have no firewall software running.
I have a direct USB connection to my Laptop (no usb hub).
I have tried both Activesync V4.0 and V4.1.
I have deleted all partnerships to get a fresh start.
I have also tried to delete the PPC in the PC's device manager and connect again (I did notice the PPC was listed under the network adapters only, nothing was listed under the USB section).
Nothing seems to help and I am really desperate since I can not sync anything anymore now.
Any suggestions are more than welcome !
Thansk in advance,
Paul
have you tried another PC ? at least this way you can be sure that everything is ok .
I am travelling and will not have any access to another PC before the WE.... I did try another cable but got not lucky..
It does seem to work on another PC.
Anybody any suggestion as to what else I could try to make it work again?
firewall?, thats my pain on my work lappy, i have to vpn into work and that blocks my JJ, i get connecting but no connected, all i can do is disconnect from work which then opens the activesync ports back up. check 7438 and 5679 on your firewall
After a week with AS 4.0 I suddenly found that the only way I could get it to work was to soft reset the Jas Jar while connected. I'm guessing you've already tried that though...
yer, i forgot to say, i can only sync when my JJ has been off for 10+ seconds, if on i get a uab device error if off i connect no problems, this kinda leads me to think that the usb port is in a different mode when on to when on standby, but the usb hosting of devices appears not to be the reason

I have the same problem. Get a kind of "USB not recognized" when the jasjar is on/open".
I close the Jasjar after having taken the USB out of course.
Then, after a while ( You say 10 seconds) it works fine and Activesync starts the job.
I can live with it. No soft reset needed.
Very positive to me is the fact that I can also connect to a USB HUB. So no need to plu it directly in my portable.
After connection I can open my little toy. (Gush how I love this thing)
Huib
Yes I have the same problem I only synk when the jasjar is turned off. Most probably one of the reasons apart from firewall issus is office 2003. They said to me from club-imate support that we need the newest office 2003 with sp1.

USB Sync cable driver

Hi all,
Just got myself an 02 Exec and so far am pretty pleased with the device.
I've just bought it in to work with me expecting to be able to sync without issue although I need a driver
My disc is at home, and I really wanna get synced today. I've searched for the driver without success, can anyone grab the required file off their disk for me? would be much appreciated!
HI,
the driver is not all you need, as a WM2K5 device, it will only sync with active sync 4.x. So .. just download AS4 .. and sync ;-)
- Superbowl
You need Active Sync 4.0 not a driver.
Thanks for the replies peeps, however I don't think this is the case.
I have AS 4.0 with me although it's when I first plug in my Exec that it asks me to install this driver.
With AS 4.0 installed it just can;t find my device, the same happened to me at home. I just went into device manager and browsed the offending hardware to the CD where it installed the driver and then AS 4.0 could see my Exec.
Any ideas as to where I can find this driver?
Do you have full admin rights to the PC?
I am on a locked down one where I can't change anything.
Before I got the tech dudes to install AS, the PC kept asking for drivers.
Can't say much more, that's just what happened to me.
I think the message was 'installing windows mobile device...' and then wanting the driver.
Hi mate,
Yeah sure I have full admin rights. I'm really don't think AS4.0 will solve this as like I say the same happened at home until I installed this driver from the applications CD that came with my Exec.
Anymore ideas?
Try it on a different USB port.
I see this happen with a lot of devices. Plug it in one port, Windows doesn't recognize. Plug it to the next one, and it works.
i have to turn me JJ off for 5 secs, then plug into usb and its fine, if i do it when its on i get a malfunctioning usb device pop on my pc
I`m having similare problems....
Full Admin rights
Windows XP SP2
AV4.0 installed
But keep getting "not Connected" whenever I hover over the AV4 icon.
and I have checked that my AV4 on my Exec has "Synchronize all PCs using this connection".
After reinstalling a few times.
Am very stuck....
check this out....
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx
Many many thanks...
Seem like I need to spend a little more time on the MS Windows Mobile site.
Thanks for the help chaps.
Seems AFTER installing AS 4.0 I then went to device manager and clicked the offending hardware after which it installed the driver.
Thanks for the help

ActiveSync 4.0 or 4.1 refuses USB connection to EXEC

Dear All,
Please help, my new O2 EXEC is sitting here almost totally useless without ActiveSync.
I did a very stupid thing:
I plugged in the Exec via the USB cable before installing ActiveSync 4.0.
What used to happen (back inthe day 2001 etc) would be that windows would install its own driver for the portable device and then when you subsequently installed ActiveSync its drivers would not go in and hence ActiveSync would not recognise your device.
What is happening now seems like the same sort of issue in that now having installed ActveSync it is just sitting there saying no connection.
For ActiveSync 3.6 and below this is a documented problem and here is the fix
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/264693/en-us
BUT for me this does not work (well because there is no yellow unknown device in Device managers other devices).
In AUDIBLE terms
a) I get a du-duh sound when I plug in EXEC (like if you plugged in a USB key for example)
b) It shows up in the Device Manager-> Network Adapters as "Windows Mobile-based Device"
c) ActiveSync 4.0 or 4.1 does NOT give me the dulde-de-dah sound
d) ActiveSync shows no connections
Anybody any bright ideas? Surely I am not the only twonk to have inadvertently plugged in the EXEC first
Answers greatly appreciated.
BASICALLY HELP
PS: Have also looked at ActiveSync trouble shooter 2001, the ActiveSync 4.0 troubleshooting article from Msoft, tried switching off firewall, no result. Have tried deleting the Mobile-based Device, uninstalling AS 4.0, rebooting, reinstalling AS 4.0 or 4.1 then plugging EXEC,no good.
PPS: I convinced a friend to let me install AS 4.1 on his computer and then plugged in the EXEC and all was fine, so the EXEC itself is sound.
Maybe this will help:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx
Sorry, didn't read your message good.
Just see now you already did looked at the link....
But another idea: if your device works on your friend PC, then why not
do a clean install for the OS on your own PC?
Maybe this will solve your problem.
Dodger,
Thanks for the thoughts. Well actually thinking about a reinstall of my computer due a moments lapse of concentration is a difficult undertaking. With the backup of the on computer databases as well as over 100 applications installed, I think this would take me several person days.
Currently my thoughts are to clone the partition and then do a windows "over install" onthe clone, but logically that will not work because <of course> the whole point of an over install is that the registry and all applications are preserved.
I spent over 3 solid hours of googling, installing, uninstalling drivers yesterday trying to fix and can't believe I am the only one who has had this problem!
Perhaps somebody with a working ActiveSync can elaborate how does the EXEC show up in device manager (when its plugged in and synced), and also what device driver XP and /or Windows 2003 server would be using.
Thanks mb.
I was facing similar issue. Solution? Yes, uninstall my firewall, connect and sync with my JasjAr and then install the Firewall with Jasjar already connected !
This may help:
Open network connections on ur PC so u can see all connections.
Make sure AS (PC side) is enabled for USB
turn off JJ and plug it in to USB
Turn on JJ whilst watching the window of netwrok connections on ur PC
A new connection icon should pop up, then MAYBE dissapear again
Right click this icon, before it dissapears, and check it's enabled, then select properties
Now check the following items:
- does top box say "windows mobile based device"
- click "configure"
- under configure, is there a button somewhere (mine's working so I can't recall exactly where) that says something like "enable mobile device". If so, then you need to click this.
If this all fails, then repeat but with another USB port. The reason for this seeming waste of time is that you will get a DIFFERENT "Local area connection nn" icon, which may work for you.
I cant believe there hasnt been one mention of rebooting your PC - Which I can assume you already have done?
What OS are you running on your PC?
I have only just got my MDA PRO but this may help! as I did the same thing and for a while XP Pro wouldnt recognise the device.
Uninstall ActiveSync
Reboot PC
Install Activesync V4.0
Plug in USB Device
If there is still a problem connecting you shoudl see a USB device not recognised in your deviuce manager.
It almost seems like there is a time you have to wait before XP will respond normally to you unplugging and replugging in the USB.
Failing this you may have to uninstall Activesync and tehn remove all activesync registry keys it may have left behind! Then reboot and start again!
Just having tisproblem now, this is pïss poor of MS to still be foisting off onto us this Activesync package in such a terible state.
I've just had activesync stop working on me. It would connect but then refuse to sync anything even though it previously worked fine. I think it got upset after I booted up the PC with the Exec connected.
Anyway an uninstall and reinstall of Activesync on the PC cured the problem. Not the most robust software though.

What works for me is to turn off the handheld, and connect the cable after that. Then turn on the device if needed. Works mot of the time then.... no excuse for MS though....

Help with I-Mate (XDAII)

Hello,
I'm currently trying to get a second hand I-Mate syncing with ActiveSync using a USB cradle. Everything else works fine, with the exception of a USB sync. When my I-Mate cradle is plugged in via USB, and the powered-on I-Mate is placed in the cradle, a Windows device message appears stating "USB Device Not Recognized". This happened with another I-Mate I was able to try and on multiple computers with multiple cradles. I'm quite baffled. I've tried verstions 3.7, 3.8 and 4.0 of ActiveSync.
I would really like to get the USB cradle working so I can try WM2005 and not have to xfer software to the I-Mate over my GRPS connection
Thanks in advance.
-Chris.
Hi Chris.
That certainly is odd since you've tried multiple ActiveSync versions on multiple PCs with multiple i-Mates!
What OS are the PCs running?
Normally when you first connect the i-mate via the cradle after installing ActiveSync, XP will launch the Add Hardware Wizard, which should find the drivers as ActiveSync installs them.
I have heard that reverting from ActiveSync 4 to 3.x can cause problems, but if you started with 3.7 & worked up from there, that isn't your issue.
Can you launch ActiveSync manually via Start - All Programs etc.?
Perhaps check the XP driver-signing policy - maybe it's stopping the driver from installing. I'd normally suggest trying a different USB port, but trying another PC covers that one .
Good luck - I know this one would annoy the hell out of me too!

The PCs that I've tried have been running XP. My work machine SP1 while my home machine SP2.
I tried disabling the windows firewall in SP2 to no avail. The two other units I tried were in various states of order so that could be contributing to the issue.
The touchscreen is unresponsive on one while the other is stuck showing serial information (both issues I've found out how to resolve reading this forum, that'll make 2 more functional I-Mates!)
I have since completley removed ActiveSync from my PC at home. When I place my I-Mate into the cradle, no windows device messages appear and when I go into the device manager the I-Mate isn't even seen anymore.
I might just cut my losses and go cough up $40 for a usb bluetooth adapter for the desktop and sync that way. I'd rather not do this as I don't believe I can upgrade the ROM via bluetooth, and I'd very much like to throw WM2005 on one of these puppies, providing I can even get that far.
Ok, so a good majority will probably hate me after this.
My sync problem was caused by me not using a 5v power adapter. Yes, it was that simple. My power adapter looks like some kind of alien as it's being converted with 3 devices to conform to standard 110v north american AC. It was purchased for European users originally.
BUT, here's my saving grace. The I-Mate I was playing with won't sync via USB, it will do bluetooth and even serial but not usb???
Even more annoying is the unit I'm now using has an annoying issue with the touchscreen. If I receive a call or take care of any other incoming data activity, the screen freezes. I will not be able to use the touch screen until the battery is taken out. Very annoying, to the point I'm using the bluetooth unit. It's got the latest firmwares of the units (1.72wwe, 1.14 radio, 1337.38 for g (general?) bluetooth unit has 1,66wwe, 1.10 radio and 1337.2x for g) ...haha, sorry I thought that one was awesome and very fitting for a faulty device... just not the right number for a release...

USB connectivity issues

No computer detects my TyTN anymore. Not even to display the "New Hardware Found" message that I usually get when plugging the TyTN into a USB port of a computer that hasn't seen the device before. Nothing. The phone still charges and the it still knows when its plugged by the icon on the lower right corner of the screen.
I've searched the forum for this very issue, and found mostly activesync issues/solutions. I've tried them all with no success. BTW activesync works for me via bluetooth. My last resort was a hard reset. Three times... (read from one of the posts). Now I'm stuck with a TyTN with a Dopod ROM.
Has anyone experienced this problem?
I tell you, having a kick-ass phone but without a way to push the customization files into it is TORTURE.
Please help.
I had a smiliar problem when I Installed XP-MCE.
I solved it by downloading the latest Active Sync and Installing it, From there windows picked it up as a Mobile Device.

Thanks for the reply. I use ActiveSync 4.5 on Win2K, XP and XPMCE. The computers are not able to detect it at all.
Reinstall Activesync
Try reinstalling Activesync (which will uninstall the earlier install of the same or earlier version). This worked for me. I face this problem once too often coz I sync with my desktop and laptop.
try deleting the partnership on the phone and then try plugging it in, make sure all the partnerships on the phone are deleted, i had the same issue with my tytn and that solved it.
Another issue i had was that windows was detecting the device but still would not allow it to connect , so what i did there was just go into computer management (right click on my computer then click manage) and uninstall the device while it was connected then unplug and plug it back in and windows re-detected it. Also make sure you have the atest version of active sync installed.
Hope this helps
Check device manager - does it even refresh when you plug your device in?
If it does not, you may have a big problem...
Have you tried an alternate USB cable? It could be that that is shot.
Have you still got the min-USB headphones? If so, do they still work?
If they do not work either, that would suggest that the device's USB port port is shoddy...
And reality sinks in...

Yeah, I think the USB port on my TyTN is partially dead. This feels like being with Verizon and their locked phones. Sucks wet cow butt.
Oh well, I'll just learn to live with my Dopodish phone until HTC comes out with TyTN III.
Thank you all who replied.
