How can I test my overclock? - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Hi guys!
I'm tryign to overclock my Jamin, to 240MHZ, with a simple guide found on this forum... (omapclock and memmaid...)
I think i do the right stuff but... I can I see/test the actual MHZ of my cpu? Can I search for a specific running task to be sure the overclock is running?

Why not just run a benchmark and see the results for yourself?

The Jamin seems to works fine and swifth at 240MHZ but I'd like to make a test/benchmark too....

well, that's what I just sugested, isn't it ?

With The Core Pocket Media Player (TCPMP) you can see the speed at which the processor is running in the options menu. Google to find the app ( it is freeware AND the best media player, much better than WMP).

I try with TCPMP and it show me speed = 225MHZ but in OmapClk the showen speed is 240MHZ......

TCPMP is known to report other CPU speeds. Just use the benchmark function with and w/o having overclocked and you'll see the difference in computing speed.

Okay but... is there any programs to make serious benchmark on pda? Is it free?

Look for SPB Benchmark. Free for personal usage.

Skype

Hello ,I have loaded Skype on my MDA Vario,is there a way to let this programme run smooth even though the processor is only 195Mhz and the min Req is according skype 312Mhz.If there is anyone who might have solved this problem.PLEASE let us all know! 8) javascript:emoticon('8)')
Cool
Yes overclock your processor - take it to 240mhz amd skype should work well.
See here to download omaplock - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=40284
Read the whole thread to see how to install it, and it explains how to use with skype
Also make sure you have the v2 wm5 version of skype. I found previous versions unusable

Wizard and gaming, my thoughts/hints

To start off, I don't have a Wizard, I own a Universal. I am thinking about moving to the Wizard for gaming. I like the button setup on the wizard. Now, I know most of you are thinking, don't consider the buttons because the phone keys can't be mapped. However, I would like to recommend a program to you all called aebuttonplus, which will allow you to map the phone buttons to "virtual buttons." These virtual buttons can be recognized by programs like Pocetnestor and gnuboy. At least they work on my Universal.
My other concern is that the processor isn't fast enough. Seems like you all are overclocking, but apparently you can't run spbplus, which I really need. This may be a problem for me, and there is no discussion here, I have to run spbplus.
So, my next thought is the Apache. A faster processor, from what I understand, that doesn't need overclocking. I just don't like the antenna nub. Also, the buttons aren't quite an issue on this device, but I don't know about the joystick.
I would also recommend to you all the bluetooth gamepad, I have found drivers that work on the Universal. It really takes gaming to a new level on a PDA.
Thanks for any advice/thoughts/responses.
hey give me more info on this bluetooth gamepad.
My wizard is not overclocked and runs SPB Pocket Plus without any problem, the device is as responsive as it it without SPB Plus.
i have yet to really get into gaming on the wizard... the butotn layout just does work for me good..
im thinking the bast games for wizard are point and click type games like myst or simple games like who wants to be a millionare
need for speed is ok but madden is unplayable for me.. control is horrible
Wow, 200 views and 3 replies. You Wizard folk are gamin' fools, LOL.
Anyhow, the bluetooth gamepad is called the Freedom Bluetooth gamepad. There's lots of different brandnames for it. Google away.
Koksie, I was referring to overclocking in order to run game emulators. Problem is, overclocking is supposedly disabled by sbp. Don't know why, but that's what I've read in these forums.
Guyver, thanks for your reply on the buttons, I guess you are saying the buttons work okay for gaming?
I can't believe you guys don't play game emulators (like NES, gameboy, etc.). A nice time waster when you are sitting in a department store, wedding, etc.
Sorry, I misunderstood your post.
I use Omapclock to sometimes overclock my Wizard when running TomTom and it works fine, in TCPMP my clock speed is shown as 226 Mhz when I put it in 240 in Omapclock. When I put it back to 180 Mhz in Omapclock ( the default speed), TCPMP shows a 170 Mhz speed, so Omapclock works imo.
I used to play around with Morphgear and Ninentendo emulators on my Magician, but the button lay-out on that device made it hard to play games. Sound and display of the games were ok though. On my Wizard I have not tried it, although with this button lay-out is should be easier to control the games. Speed and sound of the games might be an issue though, even when overclocked.
Thanks, Koksie, good info!
I can overclock my Wizard to 264mhz with SPB pocketplus. That's plenty to run a snes emulator etc. It is an arse not being able to assign hardware buttons though :/
I've grabbed the emulators off the ftp, but where do I get roms for games?

Mike, you're exactly the person I want to talk to. Try a program called aebuttonplus, and you can assign the phone buttons to "virtual buttons" which are recognized by the emulator. It works on my universal, at least, and the button setup on the Wizard is much better than the Universal. Give it a shot and let me know if that helps.
I actually meant to say that the layout isnt too good fpr gaming...atleast 4 me
well with pocket nester. if you turn off GAPI landscape mode works fine and you can assign keyboard buttons to whatever you want.
as of right now, to make it usable also turn on alternate scanning of keys for multiple button presses.
knowing both of these makes games "playable" but not nearly as nice as a real joystick.
our best bet is to bug any developer or possibly collectively pay together to have some fix all the open source emus out there.
landscape Is by far the best way to game on this bad boy. but from eperience the keypad is lackluster AT best for controlling games.
right now the only emu out that supports keypad/landscape mode is pocket nester.
turn off gapi in video settings. and turn on alternate key scanning for best possie controls on device.
sorry for misspellings/grammar errors, I am posting this from my wizard.

WAD and Memory

I was wondering who out here is using WAD on there wizard. I ran it for a few days but I was constantly having system lock ups I think cause it was hogging so much memory.
My desktop was 3 pages, main page runing phone alarm. Second page with Pocket breeze and weather. And a final page with pocketrss and soem photo speed dials. I also run Verichat and photocontact pro in the background continously.
What is everyone experiences using WAD. I really want a Tytn. Anyone know how much memory it has verse the wizard?
WAD can be memory consuming. I gave it up after it got too addicting and I need to speed more than the look. I just stick to wisbar advance. I suggest OC' your Wizard.
I bet WAD will run better with tytn, processor much fast. But I'm still debating after reading to many complaints about the tytn.
I am overclocked at 228.

Hermes CPU Monitor Application?

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone knows of an application that has a CPU monitor in it, that works for the Hermes? I ask because I'm a control freak, and want to know when my hermes slows down, if its because its processing something or because its crashed? I know that the CPU monitor will take up more CPU cycles thereby slowing things down even further, but just want to trial it to see.
I think that the latest version of Pocket Hack Master is supposed to support the processor in the hermes, but I want to avoid installing this since I understand that using this application can cause a hard reset of the hermes when you try overclock. So I'm going to throw caution to the wind and not install it at all.
Thanks in advance.

Do you want to know the CPU load, like in XP Task Manager?
Try XCPUScaler.
It has a TaskBar CPU Meter option.

Yep, something like the WinXP Task Manager/Performance Monitor. I know that XCPUScalar has a CPU Monitor, but its also an overclocking app, and for the time being, until someone has confirmed that a overclocking apps works without hard resetting the hermes, hoping to steer clear of them. On top of this, I don't really want to pay for the app when I'm just seeking a minor part of its functionality. I probably will purchase it when it successfully supports the hermes CPU. Thanks for the advice though. Anyone know of any other app?

On the matter of overclocking...

Has anybody had luck with overclocking the TyTN? I tried a while back, and Pocket Hackmaster hard reset my device... xCPUScalar didn't do anything. I need to squeeze an extra 100MHz if possible for my psx emulator - thanks!

nothing yet.. PHM killed my device also, however i was successfully able to underclock to 251MHz... and xpuscaler wont work becuase the hermes/TyTn doesnt have an OMAP processor
That's a shame! I'm really looking forward to squeezing some more speed out of my TyTN!
what psx emulator are you using? where can i get it??
