today, for the second time since the ownership of this phone, my phone has been hard reset.
they battery was fully charged last night, and i had a couple of apps installed on the PPC. but the last time this happened, there were no apps installed on the phone, and it just randomly hard reset, and i lost EVERYTHING on my phone.
any ideas?
also, how do i get back my partnership from Activesync so that it recognises the device? i lost the partnership when the device was hard reset today.
also (last thing) if i do synchronise with activesynce, will i get all my data back on the phone, or will all the data on my computer be erased, and make me hopeless?
thanking you in advance for any replies.

desperate
p.s.: it's a himalaya
i just do a restore (yes some people do make backups), and then i have my partnership back.
If this isn't an option try
1) setting your regional settings like before (don't know if this is necessary but read it somewhere in this forum)
2) in the registry of your XDAII set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Ident/Name to what it was = name of directory on your PC under "Document and Settings/username/Application Data/Microsoft/Activesync/profiles/" (at least that's were it is on my Win2000
About the hard resets : I have no idea
what about the data though?
when i synchronise with activesync, and i have data remaining on the computer from my previous partnership, will i lose the data on the computer?
/me goes and tries it.
how do i access the registy on my PPC?
with phm regedit, it's freeware at i thik it's floating somewhere here on the forum :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=7136
with a new partnership, he will take data from xda to PC.
For syncing with outlook, i think he asks what to do copy them pc => xda; xda => pc ; or keep duplicates.
well, the only problem with that would be that when installing the registry program, i would also lose all my data, wouldn't i?
you can always connect as Guest & it won't do any syncing.
and then copy the cab file in the zip to somewhere on your xdaII & run it. That would install regedit on your xdaII.
Then Change the Name and reconnect to your PC.
the name of the device is already the same as that i had previously (Pocket_PC), but it still won't let me sync with my previous profile
I backup everyday using Sprite....its very fast
Since then I got no worries abt Hard Resets...ever.
You can store the backup files in your SD card or even your desktop.
If you keep files in the desktop, please
uncheck the 'Establish Partnership during backup or restore'
Its worth getting Sprite.
it is not the matter of worrying about the hard resets, it's just that i find them really annoying.
speaking of which, my phone hard reset AGAIN (strike 3) yesterday while i was walking up the stairs with the phone in my hand.
weird, or what?
all things active sync accountwise is located in
documents & settings\application data\ms\activesync\
and
documents & settings\my documents\my pocketpc ducoments
and no when you sync with outlook the contacts and appointments are added to outlook ms would have an angry mob on their door steps if
messing around with pda's would clear peoples outlook account
if you worry you can export outlook to a pst file
as a backup
if you remove the device from the application data place
or backup up you can use the same sync name as you did before thats where it gets it from
in the last three days, my phone hard reset on me twice.
these are becoming ever so frequent, and pissing me off now, because i don't who is calling me unless i get to a computer to restore all my data.
could it be possible that the battery is loose?

I'm surprised you haven't thrown it up the wall I guess it could be some sort of loose connection, but perhaps it would be better to take it back to the supplier (if it is still under warranty).
yes, i think it was a loose connection, because i just got frustrated and tried putting a piece of folded up paper on top of the battery, and hasn't hard reset since.
i think this is a common problem among us XDA 2 users and it is a MUST to use Sprite Backup... it is fast and has a smaller compression so the backup file is not that big to store in the mmc... just dont forget to install it in the storage card.. Sprite backup = no need for PC to restore files..
I had no problem with hard resets until I upgraded the rom to 1.72. Now my O2 XDA II hard resets randomly too. Once a month at least. I used the backed up software built-in to restore and use PHM RegEdit to restore my registry as well.
What's annoying is my Speed Dial resets even when I backed it up and other things went back to my previous backup. I'm going back to 1.60 or 1.66, good thing I still have the ROM backed up.
I have the same problem with my qtek2020, since rom version 1.72.00WWE.
My ppc has also an other problem, It looses the network after about 2 hours, after that i am not able to call, so i do an soft reset and the problem is over.
I believe that your xda has many application - and there is a conflict caused this Hardresets.
Solution is remove some of them - and it will be ok.
zhingis, no device should hard reset due to a conflict, with a polite O/S it would close one, more likely a lock up or soft reset but it shouldn't hard. The no. of applications won't have a bearing in any case unless they are open.
Has anyone tried regressing bootloader V to resolve?
I know that Pocket Plus from SPB has an issue with the XDA2 where it will cause it to hard reset if you have an SD card in, that's documented on their website.
Are you using SPB Plus? In anycase, use Sprite backup to your SD card, and within a matter of minutes you can have you're phone back the way it was.

Hi!
I really need help right now. This is second time my TyTN goes wild this way.
I can start machine allright and I can put PIN-code in but little bit after TyTN hangs totally. It does not respond to anything.
Even hard reset is difficult to do because you have to be so quick to push buttons before systems freezes.
There is no extreme programs or any changes made after last hard reset.
1. Can I do something now on the road?
2. What have I done wrong that it goes wild like this?
Please help ASAP if there is something to do now without HR.
I dont think the freeze can stop the hard reset ... You should be able to HR even when your TyTN is frozen till the ice ages ...
This is not the....
This is not the main issue. I can Hard Reset... but what went wron in the first place? And twice in one week.
Few decent program installations and using ActiveSync in two machines... I think that is the reason somehow... But how to prevent this happening constantly.
Most likely, one of your programs is screwing it up .. You need to figure out which one it is ... Setup one by one manually and see what happens ..
Also, try installing SPB Pocket Plus .. that has a manual safe startup mode .. see if you are able to start up your TyTN in the safe mode .. instead of doing a hard reset everytime ..

Just another thing to check along with suggestions above. Do you use a storage card. If so does it still hang with the card out. And secondly is there a decent amount of on board memory free.?

Had this happen on a Prophet it turns out it was one of the 3rd party software apps installed, the author updated it and no more issues.
I would bet the same thing is happening to you on the TyTn
yer i agree with mark i had same prob with my htc tytn turn out to be a 3rd party bluesnafing tool
What program that...
...might be?
Nothing starts on startup. I mean nothing special that my friend does not have. And he has no problems at all.
My guess still is that problem is ActiveSync. Because in freeze I can see part of ActiveSync window. And ActiveSync starts automatic...
Is there way to prevent ActuveSync on startup?
Thank you for your replys.

_mike_ I wouldn't be that dismissive of that advice. Usually, just where you think your sure you have everything covered in a particular area so theres no need to check, thats usually where your problem is.
The fact is that you and your friend have two different phones. Are the model numbers, lot numbers identical? Did you both in stall the exact same software with the exact same version numbers?
I'm guessing that you missed something there.
You need to be patient and thorough when figuring our these issues.
The best advice to find the answer to your problem has already been given.
Start with a base WM5 build and your ext ROM software. Remove your memory card.
Spend at least a day or two in base config. This will certainly tell you if its the phone or the software.
If your phone stays good, add one of your programs to the phone and wait another day.
repeat this until you find out what's causing the issue.
It's not quick or fast, but it's effective.
Good Luck!

So what happened with this issue?
Mine has started doing this right after I installed pRSSreader and subscribed to BBc news feed
I took out storage card, soft reset and was quick enough to disable the today screen plugin for the offending app and then uninstall now everything's okay.
Maybe problem was caused by installing pRSSreader to the storage card confused:

There was an issue with pRSSreader 1.3.2 I believe. It happened to me. I was able to disable the today plugin and recover, but it took a few tries. It's supposed to be fixed in the latest version.
Freeze TYTN
I had the same problem after installing Nots Push mail 3 party software.
Each SR make my TYTN freeze.
I have used Memmaid in order to remove it from the startup program
It has solved the problem
Mine hung after installing and uninstalling psShutXp. After uninstalling, I kept getting a notification error message whenever I turned it on concerning psShutXp. Then, it just locked up for good. No amount of soft resets, powering off/on helped. After a hard reset and reinstall of my favorite apps, back to working fine.
I do occassionally lock my phone by accident and I get a little freaked out the next time I use it because nothing works. Then, I realize what I did and that I'm a moron and everything's good again.

Hi,
I now have the same problem. I have only a view programs installed. Each softreset hangs at the windows mobile screen.
As I don't like a hard reset everytime, my workaround is to enter the bootloader and do a softreset from there...
Is it cleared in between, what is causing the hangs?
good night
dsp
Im getting a similiar problem with mine after not having added ANY new software recently. Mine hangs at the HTC screen, and no matter whether there is:
A) sim card and microSD card
B) microSD card only
C) sim card only
D) neither
in the machine, it still just hangs at the HTC screen on startup (regardless of whether its a soft or hard reset), and doesnt even make the startup tone, or play the animation, all it shows are a few digits and such in red at the beginning. PLEASE HELP!
Mine has it too
I know its a year later, but has anyone found an answer for the Freezing / not booting / not starting of the phone?
One reason is if you have a BS rom installed. You need to install a stock NBS rom (make sure radio is stripped out or you will have to reflash yours) the reflash your BS rom. Make sure you back-up your contacts and messages first.
Cheers...
So yeah, I had my memory card in and was defraging it with Pocket Mechanic. Before I did that, I had cleaned the registry with pocket mechanic as well. i stopped the defrag at like 88%, because I realized the battery was about to die. So, once I hit stop, it took about 5 more minutes to finalize what it had completed. So now, when I try to boot the phone with the memory card in, it gets stuck in a soft reset loop. I'm wondering if it's something as simple as a missing registry key. Anybody have any ideas?
Had a similar problem. Re-flash the rom and you should be good to go.
I was afraid it'd come down to that. lol
tsk tsk
Next time don't perform intensive tasks like backups and defrags while on battery power.

lol That was a no brainer. Just wasn't thinkin' about it when I started it. I ended up doin' a hard boot though. Oh well. Everything's runnin' nice and clean again.

well i thought my problem was fized but it has come back again. I am not sure what is causing it but my phone is stuck in a soft reset loop. I have tried a hard reset. I tried flashing to original HTC ROM, I then tried ASergs, and am now back to PDAVIET rom. I thought the problem stemmed from when I tried to install programs to extROM but re-flashing should've taken care of that...no? Any suggestions appreciated.

SO after falshing the original RUU and not playing arround with the extended_rom didn´t do the trick for you? YOu again got the reboot problem?
Thant´s strange. What software do you have installed?
Well I did a search after my posting and found out that sometimes SkTools doesnt act friendly with PPC's, something to do with notifications or some other nonsense. Tried MemMaid to delete the duplicate notifications but problem still there. Stopped using that completely with the combo of taking out the microSD during boot up did the trick. Quite tedious I know, but I should be able to hold out with this for a little while longer until I can get my hands on a Kaiser. I'm just glad it starts now, been avg. 2 hard resets a day lately.
Hi!! two years after you mad this thread I'm having EXACTLY the same problem!! And it was after the pocket mechanic "cleanup" as well. So far the only workaround is to remove the memcard while booting and wait until wm desktop starts loading. Then I can re insert it without any problems. If anyone has an update on this (I mean without hard resetting) would be really welcome
I need you guys help real bad. Went to go use my phone when I noticed there was a gap between icons on the bottom tray of the phone. I tapped the space there to see if it was something there with no icon, but nothing happened. I figured I'd soft reset to see if that icon would go away. Now my phone has been soft reseting itself over and over and over for the past half hour. I can't get into my phone now. It loads the T-Mobile screen, loads the Windows Mobile screen then shuts down and repeats the process. Please tell me there is something I can do to fix this. I need my phone.
If it matters, I had installed some software prior to this, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Thanks in advance.
Try removing your SD card if you have one installed then soft resetting. If not then I really have no advice & wish you luck!
As mrbelvedere stated removing the memory card(if you have one) might fix it. If not you might have to reflash your ROM. You can d this by going to Bootlader mode (Hold CAMERA button and reset with stylus.) and flashing like normal from there.
Haven't gotten a chance to try either of your suggestions yet (I'm still at work and left my phone home) ut if I have to reflash my ROM, what exactly does that entail? I'm pretty novice when it comes to things like this so if I do like stated above, is it a pretty straight foward self explainitory process? And am I correct in assuming that if I hard reset, I lose everything and start completely fresh?
Well, you guys both helped me and unfortunately the answer isn't good. Removing the storage card did the trick, it finally stopped continously rebooting. However, a few of the apps that would load off the SC didn't load (which I could probably fix later) but then another error would pop up and this one said "No language dat file". I would press the ok button but the phone would just lock up and freeze and I'd have to pull the battery just to shut it off. Tried it a few more times, same thing every time. Did a little research and it seems this is caused by having Fizz Weather installed on your SC, which, of course, I had did not to long ago. Every article I read basically said I need to do a hard reset to get rid of this problem. I'm resigned to the fact that I'm going to have to start fresh, which in a way is a good thing because I can start clean and not download all the bull I previously had on my Wing (I was a new app fiend!), but I do have a few quick questions if you'd be so inclined.
Also, I don't have a sync cable, just a memory card reader so I can't do any ActiveSync stuff.
1. I did have SPB Backup on there and do have about 2 recent backups, however all I really need off them is my contact info, because I would like to start fresh. After I hard reset, do I have to reinstall SPB Backup to run the backup, or can I run it on my fresh Wing with out it.
2. What do I do about my Storage Card? I know I can just copy my movies, music, tsk files and extra stuff to my computer but what about the program files of apps I installed to the storage card? Do I just delete that folder? Should I delete the whole card and start fresh there as well? How exactly does that work?
Sorry for all the questions, but this is my first time having to do a hard reset and I don't want to screw up my phone any worse than I apparently already have. Thanks in advance.

First off, I would get a data cable for your phone, and then get the latest version of ActiveSync. This way, you can transfer files easily, plus, you can backup all your data/contacts. Plus, if/when you want to flash to a better rom, it's easier this way. You are going to want to reformat your flash card. Just for the time being back up all files on your computer, and flash it that way. Doing a hard reset isn't difficult or bad, but you will lose all data stored on your phone. It just basically reinstalls the original operating system, so it will be like you turned it on for the first time. Do you know how to do a hard reset? After this is all said and done, I would start looking into flashing to a different rom. The one that comes stock on our phones SUCKS.
Yeah, I definitely will be looking into a data cable now. Ironically, I was just looking at docking stations with the cable attached right before my phone went down. As for the latest version of AS, do you mean for the PC or the phone? I figured I should clear the storage card as well, since nothing will be linked to it anymore. The only thing I'm really mad about is losing my contacts, but hopefully spb backup will fix that. I do know how to hard reset, was reading up on it all night. I'm going to do that, see if all goes well, if it does, I'm going to buy that docking station then probably ask you about flashing! Thanks again for the help.
Sorry to post again, but I have yet another question. My friend has this ( http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Mad-...oid/199058/catOid/0/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do ) and no longer uses it. It looks like the ports are the same as my Wing. Could I use that as a active sync cable?
Nevermind, I'm an idiot. Was looking for a HDMI cord in my junk wire box under the bed and, low and behold, what do I find? Not 1, not 2, but 3 usb sync cables! I'm such an idiot! I hard reset, lose everything and now I find the cables. Oh well, you live and you learn. Besides, I can start fresh and get into this flashing business.
Hi guys, first of all i wan't to thank the whole community for this awesome site, it has really helped me alot with my Xperia X1!.
(Xperia X1i R3AA Swedish orignal ROM)
I was configuring some stuff yesterday in the programs "SKtools" and "Advanced config", nothing serious, just removed pocket controller from autostart, uninstalled a program and changed the name & function of the Softkey #1 + a couple of different tweaks that has nothing to do with this.
That was the last thing i did, and a while later when i was using the phone i noticed that i had no signal, so i touched the signal-symbol and the pop-up said "no service" (pic #1).
Now when i start up my device it skips the PIN code screen and doesn't connect to any phone service anymore...
When i click the phone button, nothing happens, when i click on contacts or the sim-manager the pin-screen pops up and enter the code, but it still wont connect after that.. i can't recieve calls or make any, but when someone phones me the LEDs still light up as if it's calling, so it still recieves the signal... and if i manually check for carriers i find my carrier in the list (pic #2&3).
I'm really lost of what could of gone wrong.. have any of you ever experienced anything like this? Could i had happened to accidently touch something in those programs that could have caused this?
I also want to add that i did check some stuff out in the \windows folder where i tried a couple of .exe's (which i now realise i shouldn't have done...) one of them being wrlsmgr.exe which looks like an old version of the CommManager.exe where i happened to turn of the phone communication, but i started it up from there again too...
I tried a friends SIM in my phone and still the same problem, while my SIM works in his phone, so it is the phone the problem lies within.
I've searched like mad for this problem & I'd really appreciate any tip/suggestion for a fix, worst case i'll have to back up all important stuff and start over with a re-flash.
Please ask if something is unclear..(could add more screendumps, describe something i left out etc) i find the problem quite hard to describe... and i don't really remember all the stuff i did just before this happened.
i would first backtrack everything you did leading up the the stopping of the phone and undo it and if that doesnt work then Hard reset is the best bet for fixing it.
Yeah, i tried backtracking everything, but to no avail..
(Can also add that i altered some stuff in the "Tune Up!" option in SKTools at the same time, but nothing that should affect anything serious)

well if i were you i'd go into the phone settings and make sure everything there is set properly and if that doesnt help i'd hard reset - bit annoying i know but its the best bet (dont forget to back up all your stuff!)
Yeah, i've trippled checked everything, and all looks ok...
I'll probably have to hard reset (same as flashing the R3AA ROM over again, right?) it's just that i've had the phone for 2 weeks and yesterday when i finally had gotten EVERYTHING as i wanted it to ( the RAMdisk & final configuration of pocket plus being the last 2 big things i did), it messed up on me, when i were going to stop fiddling with specials... -.-
Thanks anyway, if i can't find a solution by tomorrow i'll re-flash it.

yea - i wouldnt go fiddiling around with stuff in the windows folder or anything either
yeah i'll make sure not to do that next time, i was just curious to find out if there was an .exe or something that would turn the Wi-Fi off/on when you start it (to make the softkey #1 activate it), but i guess that's embeded in some .dll or something, didn't think some exe in the \Windows folder could mess stuff up like this >_>...
