I noticed that Wizard has a very poor GSM signal reception. Compaired to SonyEricsson P910i, which was extremely reliable when it comes to signal reception.
One of the disadventages of bad reception is faster battery drainage, but it doesn't bother me that much.
Sometimes it happens that Wizard tries sending SMS (text message) several times, until it succeeds in that action..unfortunatelly, it seems that the sending was successful every time, so I end up with boosted phone bill, and my recipient with several same messages.
Does this happen to you? It starts driving me crazy, although I have a Wiz for only a month now.
Maybe you are using Pocket Plus?
In that case you have to add tmail.exe (\Windows) to the exception list. You can find the list in the Settings of Pocket Plus.
Yes I do have it installed. But if you're reffering to that problem saying it's because of having Pocket Plus installed, I must say that it did happen even before I installed it 2-3 days ago.
I just opened Pocket Plus' Settings but it seems I cannot find Exception list (though I think I've seen it once I browsed through the option first time I installed it). Could you be more precise?
And, yes, what exactly one gets after adding tmail.exe to the exception list?
My wizard has a v good gsm recetion - you may find the reception better with the original o2 rom rather than the t-mobile one you are using. Or your provider signal is poor!
There is a known glitch so it sends two messages if you close down tmail before the message is sent.
When you said "close" I figured out where the exception list could be So I added tmail.exe to the list..but I kinda doubt it'll solve the problem. If it does..hooray!
I doubt cos I didn't see that Close button actually works like a real close (even with Pocket Plus). Just in case, I've just switched tap and hold functions on close button. Tap will minimise it and hold will close it. And just saw that my messaging app stays open even if I hold stylus over X button

Ok, this is a real doozy.
This happened on my original Hermes, and now it's happening on my (three day old!) new one too (just tried to Ring Areti Internet to speak to someone on behalf of one of my clients, and the moment I pressed 0 to speak to someone the microphone seems to just cut out).
The root of the problem is: I can ring a number, whatever, and if I get to a menu system, I tap in the appropriate number to navigate through the system. However, the moment I do so, when I do eventually get through to someone they can't hear me. I can hear them fine, but my microphone has totally cut out - and even trying things like hitting mute / unmute makes no difference.
If I don't press a button, and either hang on until the menu system just puts me through to someone, the mic works fine. The worst thing about this problem is that it's unpredictable; it can happen all the time or it can just happen every so often, and there's no visual or audio indicators to say otherwise that the problem is occurring.
My two Hermes models are quite vastly different in model: the old one was an HT634 and this one is a 643, so the question of the problem being a hardware one spread across several models doesn't apply. This is REALLY ANNOYING, not only does it piss off the person on the other end but if you're stuck in a queue waiting to speak to someone for 20+ minutes, finally getting through and finding that you can't be heard is TOTALLY ANNOYING!
What's even more confusing is this: I thought it might be a permanent problem, so I tried ringing my home phone, then getting my friend to make like an interactive menu system and just say "press 1 to test this, press 2 to confirm that this is a really stupid thing I'm having to do for you, press 3 to confirm that you don't mind me hitting you after we're done testing this idea of yours"... You get the idea. I pressed a button (more than one in fact, the second time I tried it), waited the appopriate length of time that it would take in the real world to get connected, and started speaking - and the person on the landline could hear me fine.
The problem was also present (and intermittent) on my first Hermes, but it was unpredictable. I'm not in a great 3G signal area, and as I look at my phone at the moment it's gone back to GPRS. I also noticed on the MoDaCo forums that some people in London were suffering from problems where they couldn't hear callers, but the person at the other end could hear them fine (they suppose, as they weren't hung up on even though they couldn't hear their caller) - they had to force their phone back to 2G to resolve the problem. However, my microphone doesn't cut out during normal phone usage, so it's just really bugging me that I can't figure out why the hell this is happening!
My Hermes is pretty much stock: T-Mobile ROM, nothing cooked or patched, I just have the odd little bunch of harmless utilities installed: a screen cap application, Map24 Mobile, Microsoft Reader, Media Metrics Meter (usage tracker, you get paid £5 a month for submitting your stats to them so it pays for the Web 'n Walk), Opera Mobile, TCPMP, SMSDRFix, Vibra Switch, WM5NewMenu and Total Commander... They're the only significant additions.
This is driving me nuts! I never had this problem on my old Alpine, though granted it was on O2. I've even had this problem when calling the T-Mobile support line! Which as you can imagine is MOST frustrating.
Anybody have even the faintest idea as to how to solve this problem? It SEVERELY hinders my ability to ring any kind of helpline or support / sales line... And until I found an alternative (direct dial) number to get through to T-Mobile Customer Services, I wasn't even able to ring them!
had exactly the same problem with a Vario II. I couldn't set up my voicemail!
Exchanged unit for a new one and now works fine. No problems so far

Argh... It took me long enough to get this replacement!!! Vario 2s are like golddust at the moment.
What model number is your new unit? Mine is an HT643 (first one was a 634)...
I keep getting calls that drop the second I hit the answer key. I'm using the latest Cingular based firmware for my 8525. Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm trying to determine if it is one of my installed apps or a problem with the phone itself. Thing is I have no apps that are meant to handle calls or VM so if other users are experiencing this please post.
I am not having this problem, 1st I've heard of anyone dropping calls instantly.
Were you located, I'm in chicago and know 4 other with the 8525 without any dropped calls.
NJ. I've been on the Cingular network for a few years now. I had an MPX220 before this.
In my opinion it may come from the magnet of the default case; give some try without it.
yeah, I've had it happen to me too. Interesdtingly, it didn't seem limited to my TyTN either. I had it on my 8125. Seems to happen most often when I answer using the softkeys instead of just pressing the green phone icon.
hmm. im not really sure which i answer the phone, both if im not wrong. I'll have to keep my eye out for that.
I was having a similar problem that turned out to be my case hitting the buttons as I pulled the phone out. I switched to a seidio clip case and it hasn't happened since.
there was a slight delay, so it actually disconnected about the time I hit the button. sometimes the call would answer instead of dropping, depending on which button was hit.
Same Problem on Vodafone
I bought 2 V1605s (tytn) 2 months ago for my business. I seem to have the exact same problem on both phones - about 20-30% of calls have this issue. Scenario is as follows:
Phone rings, after any amount of time Answer with either the green button or the soft keys and the call dies. The other party is routed to Voicemail at that time. While this problem is present I sometimes get a problem where I can't initiate a call - get an error that Cannont make an outgoing call due to lack of signal.
I have seen some suggestions that this (or similar problems) can happen when you are going into and out of coverage blackspots. My work and home areas both have blackspots, so it seems to fit with this.
Only solution I have found is a soft reset. I have tried the following:
- Set band selection to Manual - didn't work
- Set UMTS/GSM to GSM only - didn't work
- Do a hard reset (wiping data and other installed programs) - didn't work
- Make sure that all other applications are closed properly through task Manager (especially data-using ones) - Trying now - no results.
I'd appreciate any suggestions as I need this sorted - no matter how good this phone is as a PDA, I can't tolerate losing 30% of my incoming calls!
I've had similar issues. Last couple of days have been worse than others.
I am beginning to consider an alternate carrier -- the big V is better in and around NYC from what I understand
Could I ask a mod to get this thread sticky!?!
I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to get all the Software/Hardware bugs that comes on our Nikis together on one thread to make it easier for everyone to find fixes to their problems!

How about the blank notification message on boot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351647&highlight=blank+notification+message)? I would say, we should also add a little bit of explanation of the bug.
I dont have any of the above mentioned bugs!
Should also add the ubiquitous Qualcomm 7200 driver issue, resulting in poor scrolling performance (most noticeable on large pages in IE) and below par video performance (unless you get the special QTV version 1.13 of Core Player).

That's not a Niki specific issue and there is no (and probably there will be non) fix for it, so I believe it shouldn't be posted as part of the above list
Few more...
I have a few more over here, well.. different ones to be precies:
On receiving an sms that includes country code (+31 in my case) I can response once, when receiving an answer on That sms msg.. I cant anymore, phone keeps failing to send the sms.
Fix: no idea.. currently just create a new sms msg with the same number and send my sms's.
thought it was a glitch at first but has happend alot lately, reset doesnt solve the problem.
This might be a software depending problem though as I havent tested it after a hard-reset yet.
2nd.. a feature, mentioned earlier by others. The Slider reacts to magnets!
(good to know if you like having a case with magnetic clips on it)
with reacts I mean it invokes the slider functions when a magnet is close to the back of the phone, results in unwanted calls etc.
3rd.. Phone polling..
When someone calls me it takes 4-5 rings on their side before my phone actually rings, which isnt a provider feature it seems (different phone, same sim no problems what so ever).
Leads to alot of missed calls and.. hell of alot of voicemails.
Workaround: Disable your provider voicemail.. still annoying though.
Fix: well.. yes actually.. I found that on my Niki model setting the GSM/3G band to 900+1800 + 2100 Instead of Auto solves the problem.
App. the Niki also likes to roam the 1900 band when on auto, which seems to be causing my polling problem. My country doesnt use the 1900Mhz band.

Hello!
Thank you for the update!
Added two of your requests. I would say that this problem really comes from your provider. I never experienced a similar problems and I don't think there are any other counts of people having it neither. Please check with your provider
Agreed, fully, I do suspect the provider, but also found a few other posts about it on the net and some here, which is why I figured i'd share the info.
link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351082&highlight=voicemail&page=2
for some providers its possible to set the amount of rings before voicemail kicks in, also a good workaround I think.
So indeed, not a Niki specific bug, more provider + niki bug :S
Thnx for posting the others!

wow thanks.... gave that a go... and it seems to have improved. Before it was about 3 rings before the phone reacted, after changing the settings, its only about one ring.
Fix for slow scrolling in IE
Found that browsing any large page in pocket IE (basically anything not specifically formatted for a mobile screen) was a very painful experience.
Whilst I'm waiting for Opera 9.5 and Skyfire to come out, have found that the following fix works an absolute treat on my MDA Touch Plus:

I don't think it actually stops responding. The thing is, Windows folder is a very big folder and it takes quite a few seconds for the explorer to open it. Try again, but be patient, wait like 30secs max. If it doesn't work try Resco Explorer, its the one i'm using now and it's faster

On the note about the phone thinking the slide has been opened when it's near a magnet. I've got a magnetic car holder and stick the phone to that when I use co-pilot. Everytime I mount it, it opens the quick list for a few seconds before it times out. If I then slide the phone open with it still mounted, nothing, then when I slide it closed the quick list comes up.
I'm assuming the slide uses magnets of some sort to work out when it's opened. Is mounting my phone on this magnetic holder going to do any damage do you think?
Hello
Just been chatting to tech support at HTC Europe about the slow texting in conversation mode with more than 30 or so messages in it and the nice fellow advised me that the quickest way to have the issue sorted out is to ring tech support so they can raise the issue on their system. He said its a much quicker route to having the problem addressed. So everyone get ringing I think.
Agreed. it would be excellent if HTC could work on something like auto hide older messages, with a button to show older messages if the user wants to see them.
showing all conversation could be unusefull. better to hide older sms
we've all come to that solutions
better start ringing I guess, will be calling HTC sweden tomorrow... i've used My Phone to archive the messages and deleted them from phone ( <5k msg ) so it was pretty laggy
To be honest every time this happens to me it's when the radio loses signal and tries to re-connect to my network. When I have constant full signal I have absolutely no lag. But as I said earier when I have little/low signal I have lag due to the radio disconnecting/re-connecting to the network. Hope this helps.
Phil
why compromise? If Opera/IE can show pages a lot longer then the length of 30 text messages with no lag, so does HTC Message.
I couldnt agree more
Its utterly ridiculous that the phone practically freezes when you have multiple sms messages in your inbox, this needs to be sorted out - while the Leo is a phenominal device and sense is awesome, these issues make the phone less than desirable I find myself using my second line (storm2) due to this issue - It drives me crazy that such a powerful awesome device has issues like this
when you press the send button just after entering the text app and press no to send an empty message all smses will load instantly... that's kinda odd...
I can confirm the same behaviour.
That suggests this is just a straight bug in the software (perhaps in the code to update the display?) rather than some fundamental problem. When the screen is not being updated (because the focus is on the "yes/no" popup) the message list updates pretty much instantly.
Could you post the contact details of the HTC TECH support.. always when I call support.. i get some n00by telephone girl who makes tickets...
every time i go to make a call, the on screen pad locks up. it doesnt matter if i type a number in, select from the contsct list or use the recent call log, they all lock up as soon as i press the talk button on the screen. tried with the hardware button but he same thing happens, the whole phone locks up and i have to reset it. after several resets is might work, or im presented with the 4 coloured blobs that rotate. sometimes i have to wait 20-30 seconds or anything to happen and it might dial, or sometimes ive waited 5 minutes for it to start dialing. im using generic HTC rom 1.66, on an unlocked handset (factory unlocked) on t-mobile UK. ive tried reflashing the phone and it resolves it for maybe a week, then the problems start again. this is now my 9th re-flash!!
still have this issue, although its a lot better since upgrading the radio to 2.11 and using CleanEX DsE v15 ROM. interestingly, if i delete all my text messages, the problem goes away!
when you bring up the dialpad, or open it by clicking a contact, it loads the call history and message history and what not into the offscreen pages. maybe its that taking time to load,, are you one of the "save all 6000 texts" and make 100 calls a day type users? that would explain why hard reset cures it for a while.
i am a heavy txt user, and what with the misses beiing on t-mobile, i call her a lot (its free for me to call her). i have now started archiving my messages on myphone, i think part of the issue was i would delete the messages, then myphone would download them all again. issue seems a lot better, but i still think with a 1ghz processor, i should be able to store my messages on the phone without it locking up
