ok so i found my old charger for my smt5600 which in theory is a cingular 2125/tmobile SDA.. well its a upgraded 5600.. ne ways i used it and noticed the temp of the phone went upto 44C while chargin and felt really warm.. now correct me if im wrong but the mda/sda use the SAME EXACT chargers right?
as far as I know, they're the same.. I've been using my smt5600 charger to charge my 8125, and haven't had any heat problems at all with it.. been charging up very nicely..
i use an iGo charger for my 8125 (see www.igo.com for details) and they list the same unit for both the smt5600 and the 8125, so it should be OK

Yesterday my cingular 8125 phone decided not to charge the battery anymore,
I wanted to make a call and it was srangely turned off ( it was at 50% ten min. before)
so I turned my phone on and the battery meter jumped from 48% to 0% and now it wont charge at all!
plugged in it works fine with PC and charger.
Plus the battery info screen olny shows the battery meter for the main battery (0%) and not the backup battery, as if it didn´t exist! (2.17 ROM)
I wish someone could tell me if I will solve the problem with just buying a new battery or If I should sent it for repairs.
Already did a hard reset, no drops, moisture, dents, extreme temp. etc. -- and I have a Delta Electronics charger, dunno if it is the original one, it is not cingular branded. :?:
all thoughts welcome.
thanks!
Errol
You need to try the standard charger because it has an output of 1Amps and any less does not seem to kick start the battery into charging. Check your charger and see if it has an output of 1A or not (usb charger has lower output only 400mA) and if not get one or borrow one and try. Most microsoft smartphone chargers use 1A too.
Help! Intermittent car charging.
In car charging only works when the phone is in standby, but occasionally works correctly. Tried two power leads but the same result. The only sure way of getting the phone to charge after a call is to soft reset the phone.
Any advice would be welcome.

I bought a charger of ebay, not had any problems with this on my t-mobile varioII
seems a weird problem?
i am having the same problem and i have tried several different chargers it would be nice to know how many are facing it and is it to do with any battery meter apllication installed
i have spd gprs monitor and sprite monitor
havent tried to uninstall these softwares and test it again will try and see
till then any body else with this problem
I have had this problem intermittently on many of my HTC phones. My universal is the worst. I just turn it off and within a few seconds it starts charging. then turn it back on. Funny thing it only happens with car chargers.
Same problem here with my Uni. Standby to start the charge then turn it on and it's ok. Never had the charge stop though once it started.
May I ask the make and model of your car?

Hi
I have had two Vario 11 one was the early model serial 632### had no problems with charging but the screen played up and had the unit replaced serial number 637### and screens ok but now have the charging problem.
I have seen this when the device is drawing too much current for the charger - on my Ipaq PDA it would only charge in the car if I turned off the current-hungry wifi.
Might be worth checking how many mA of current your charging adaptor claims to handle - I have had generic ones that state 400mA and others (Belkin, I think) that say 550mA - the latter being more in line with the general spec for USB power draw.
FYI: Cingular now has a car charger out for the Cingular 8500/8525. $29.99 US, got mine yesterday, no problems

Same deal here. Had a Motorola charger....had intermittent problems with the car charger...went to cingy store and bought the charger for the 8525....now no problems.
I'm using the one o2 offers for Xda mini. I have no problems. I think I payed ~ 12 Euros
I have the same problem. I reboot the phone and it works great.
Wait didn't you get a coupon for a free car charger from Cingular when you got the phone. There was a little piece of paper in the box for a free car charger. I ordered mine via the premier web site don't know if that makes a difference or not...

I returned the coupon. I'm still waiting on it. I could not wait any longer - there are days that I spend 5-6 hours in the car driving to appointments.

When you tried the other MDA, did you use the same AC charger? There are posts discussing AC charger failures. It might be that...

it is not the charger...i have the same problem
i have been unable to find the solution though.
I THINK I HAVE THE SAME PHONE!!!!
HIS USERNAME IS THE SAME AS THE EBAY USERNAME!
I WAS SCREWED!
Are you sure it is not a completely dead/defective battery(some of you)? Are you able to power on your phone and use it and it still does not charge? Or is your battery dead and it won't charge? You know the phone has to be on and in WM in order to charge? These phones are known for having their usb/charger port becoming loose and not charging.
Be specific...what have you tried?
Jeff
This might be a possible mobo problem. I have had a similar issues with few wizards. When I changed a new mobo the charging issue has gone and everything runs as they should be.
it is not the battery... I have 3 batteries and two wizards. I have narrowed it down to the mobo. and not the ROM. what sucks is I bought this MDA for the mobo blowing $70.
I have tried charging my XDA Trion (Hermes) via a USB 12 car adapter. There appears to be charge to the cable, but the XDA is not charging.
Th ebattery level was low, but I charge dit up to over 40% and it still didn't kick in.
Any ideas ?
TIA, Davebo.

There is an issue re. in car charging when the device only charges when off. See the link in my signature and find the section on charging problems. May or may not be relevant to your case. Some leads have a slightly different configuration regarding earthing which can cause problems.

Ta.
Mike,
Thanks for the reply. I think it is how the pins are set up. Apparently mains chargers uses different pins to synch cables.
In the end I had to boot up my laptop and charge the handset off the USB (same cable!) from that.
I have ordered a car cradle, which I will need anyway. Hopefully, that will have the correct pins. (Or it will be going back!).
Cheers, DBo.

matey i bought a car charger from ebay only a few quid- an it charges the device while the device is on-
if you still need another charger I can try searching for the one i got from ebay? let me know.
Ta
N2h,
Ta very much, I already have one on order though now.
I went for one from the same place I got my Wizard one from (PDAMods). It was about £25 + P&P. The upside is it will fit the limpet-like screen mount I have. (The standard ones are typically rubbish IMHO).
Thanks anyway, DBo.
weird
I have found that it doesn't charge oif it is 'on' and that I have to do a soft reset before it will work whenever I change between plug and car. It drives me mad.
Faria's WM6 ROM had a fix in it for this - the HTC original ROMs do some sort of checking for a particular pin to be grounded, and if it isn't, it doesn't allow a charge. But if you turn the phone completely off, or soft reset, it works for a while until you disconnect or put the phone in standby. Nobody knows what Faria did to fix this, but I can verify that suddenly my old car charger worked. Unfortunately other issues in Faria's ROM made me move on a to a more stable software version.
Via mains and car charger?
My Vario II doesn't seem to be charging in the car, even though the charging icon appears.
Thanks.

Are you using an approved charger. Many phones using the same mini USB connection actually use half the current of the Hermes when charging. So it is conceivable you are delivering charge but at a low mA and consequently looooong charge time. Indeed if the circuit in the Hermes is more sofisticated it may in fact be delivering 0mA to the battery.
There is also a known issue when using car chargers that if the connection is interupted in anyway when connected then it will only charge when the Hermes is off. This can only be re-set by doing a soft reset, after which it will charge when on or off.
Mike
Also be aware of cheap mini-usb chargers.. A while back there were some people that fried their wizards with cheap car chargers bought off ebay.
I use a belkin mini-usb charger that i purchased for my magician way back in the day and its been working for my wizard and hermes.. but it didn't charge my sda.
Also i think batti will give you stats on what your looking for.
I AM using the charger that I used to use on my SPV C500, but I could sworn it used to charge my Vario II fine. Now, however, it seems to drain the battery if anything.
What's a good car charger for the Hermes then? The official HTC Tytn is £18 inc postage at Expansys. Any cheaper?
Cheers.
P.S. Installed Batti, and while charging from mains it says 4.197V. I thought power output was done in Amps?

Yes voltage without power rating is a bit useless, you're right you need the amp reading.
I cannot advise about car chargers as I use a 12v to mains inverter so I always use mains chargers for my laptop and phones / PDAs it's a lot simpler and I have it permanently wired in with a mains socket in the car.
Mike
P.S. I note that both my SPV C500 (Typhoon) and Vario II (Hermes) were supplied with mains chargers from HTC that put out 5V/1A.
Does this not suggest that both phones have the same charging requirements?
Thanks.
try battery status
there is a link in the hermes wiki for battery status.
i find this a useful tool.
it will show power drain and charge in miliamps.
always fun to see the power drain spike up to over 1000 mA
Thanks CrunchyGremlin.
I have installed BatteryStatus as mention here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Must_have_tools
It shows the mA drain (or + when charging).
Cheers. I'll run this next time I plug my car charger in.
